    Hi Bob, based on Nobby's and your older review I bought the refreshed model in January. As mentioned, Pretty much everything is automated to facilitate a hassel free journey. I don't particularly like touch screens, but the placement / combination of the buttons and track pad really works. This is something other reviewers get completely wrong in critizing the user interface. A one year old model discounted by 7-10k is very good value.

    Great review Bob. If I was in the market for a car in this range, I'd go Lexus any day over BMW, Mercedes etc. No brainer. Use to be a Lexus hybrid owner and it was the most reliable car we ever had to date. It also held its value on trade in. I was surprised how little it depreciated.

    Very much enjoyed the review Bob! I have to agree on Lexus being one of the most overlooked car brands in the Ireland. This car will undoubtedly be a far more reliable option than any of it's German rivals. These cars are simply built to a different standard by the master Takumi in Japan. This car is also a rare sight on Irish roads unlike the Germans. If I was in the market for one of these cars this would definitely be my choice!

Love lexus vehicles, first car my dad taught me to drive in was a LS400 - one complaint I here from alot of toyota drivers is that there is alot of road/tyre noise on motorways and that some cars can be a bit thiny- would you say Lexus cars have the same issue ? & also would a new 2.5 petrol car be just as economical without the added weight of a battery pack ?

    We have the ES250 and ES300h here in Indonesia, Bob. The problem with them is that they’re rather slow for their price. Close to 10secs 0-100, when a 520i (which is cheaper here) does the job faster, and it has BMW badge. The ES is based on Toyota Avalon, no? The ES has significantly better rear legroom though…and in many upmarket shopping centres here there are exclusive parking spaces for Lexus. Btw i have been following your videos since the old days of reviewing 1.4T Alfa Giulietta, Mk7 Golfs, and Mazda5. Your hairs were black then. Hehe. Cheers.

    • @Julianvanderheijden
      @Julianvanderheijden 8 месяцев назад

      They aren’t competing anymore. They are miles ahead of the Germans cars. I drove Audi, BMW and Volkswagen.. nothing but troubles after a certain milage. Ever since i turned to Lexus 7 years ago i had zero problems and the customer service is off the chart!

      Right, though it makes the car much cheaper to maintain, and FWD is also arguably safer too. Also with 300h, rear drive would not make it automatically sportier. AWD could be better for cold geographies with snow for an extended period of the year maybe...

      @hadjebi 2 года назад +4

      The best way to judge is to test drive both one after another, not by reading the spec sheets. I did so, and the difference is huge. Camry is a very good car, but ES is in a very different league.

    So the choice is a fast E-series/A6 or BMW5. What is Lexus- a merc chaser or a BMW chaser. Merc sells the AMG but prices them at the ultra premium. So nobody (or non AMG) Merc buyers are looking for performance. BMW is slightly the opposite but since the most popular saloon in UK homes instead of a good Ford Mondeo is a 5 for the snob sake (and 520D "performance"). What yourre looking at is a fancy toyota, built with a bigger budget and a different shape and interior. Nothing wrong but when your mates ask what person buys a Lexus sport - I'd say boy racers picking up a bargain or a car thats not sure what its trying to offer customers. Merc is the likely target. We might like performance but that V8 is a thirsty one.

    • @ygk6289
      @ygk6289 2 года назад

      If you think from a western automotive brand perspective, a lexus buyer cannot be simply put to those "personas" most car brands prefer to work with (and promote from marketing point of view). But if i had to summarize, it is "sensible" customers who care about price/performance (let me specially highlight the additional options list, which will probably cost twice or triple at German cars), do value "reliability" and quality (from running costs but also also depending on geography, simply practicality point of view as you might be doing very high mileage, the nearest dealer might be hundreds of miles away and you might be stuck in the middle of nowhere). That however is still toyota though. Then if you are also up for a bit more comfort, further refinement and luxury, without compromising from any of the earlier criteria mentioned, well that's your lexus customer. Also i have to add, nowadays, it is if "you are buying" a car, as opposed to leasing. As leasing a car might of course push reliability a but further down in your priority list. The problem i think starts either because of reviewers or likes of you, or maybe simply because of Lexus' future expansion plans, when Lexus tries to do other things and starts compromising on comfort, refinement and maybe even possibly reliability. Unless you are going for some of those niche models (not many left in EU by the way due to emissions), any other lexus model that tries to be sporty in fact harms Lexus' USPs. That is at least my point of view. Lastly, on the quality aspect, let me emphasize what pcs of crap german cars lately have been offering, hidden behind all that performance and gimmicky new technologies. And do not even get me started on the tolerances they work with and the super complicated electronics pushing things to the limit, all in the name of improving performance (and maybe reducing emissions), making the car insanely expensive to run as old as already from 3 years old. Even possibly planned obsolescence. That thankfully still is not the case with Lexus, even if there is a bit of deterioration compared to the past, it is not at the level of what germans are doing to maximize their profits.
