She is with out a doubt one of the greatest singers of the 1950s. Her voice is amazing. I could hear sing all day and never get tired of hearing her sing.

She died in Feb of 2022--age 91...She had married for a 2nd time-to a high-ranking military man...and she therefore was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, next to her 2nd husband...she lived a long, strong life...so different from most of the Hollywood crowd of performers of our current time.

I agree and nobody can sing "Why Don't You Believe Me?" like she does...not even Patti Page! I'm rediscovering all the Joni James M-G-M recordings. What a fantastic vocalist she is/was!!

Joni James still has her international fan club with a gigantic membership and still is publishing the Joni James magazine to a vast audience. I'm the guy who is the fan club president and magazine producer; I started my first Joni James Fan Club chapter in February of 1955. Joni still looks the same, sounds the same, sings the same and has that same remarkable personality. It is SO wonderful to have this interview for all to see. Anyone who wants to join the Fan Club and get the magazine write Joni James Fan Club, P.O. Box 7207, Westchester IL 60154.

This woman was not only a remarkable singer, but also a very "moral" person...clearly she took her Catholic upbringing very seriously...My 94 yo mother was also raised in that environment, and she and Joni even sound similar when expressing their deepest beliefs...These kinds of strong women do not exist anymore...BTW--that one photo that Joni did not recognize in the Capital hallway, was of Gene Vincent and the Whitecaps...one of early Rock and Roll's important groups...Joni was not really a part of the Rock and Roll scene!...lol

@Frank DiNunzio That was Jeri Southern in 1951. You have excellent taste in music. It was a pop song in that style. It is a spectacular recording. So, of the times.

Joni James favorited Frank Sinatra yet forgot to menton Tony Bennett in keeping popular music in vogue.
