Joni James impressed me so much with her singing back in the 50s that even now at 76 yrs old I can still remember all the words to this beautiful song! And I can’t even remember if I ate lunch today! Lol
I'm almost 75 and I more or less remember Joni James. What a fantastic vocalist she is/was!! Been listening to all of her MGM recordings lately!! This video is just wonderful!!
They don't write songs like this or produce singers like our Joni any more. Every word clear as a bell. Their loss, our gain. Brings back so many memories. Loved you then Joni, still do.RIP!!
Such a sweet and lovely woman, they do not make them like that anymore. She has the voice of an angel, and a heart of gold; thank for sharing this amazing video :)
Joni James belonged to an era long gone when life was simple and uncomplicated , yet full of happiness and joy . Joni James is a treasure that we have to unwrap every now and then to relive those sweet and pleasant memories and moments again .
Life was never simple and uncomplicated. TV made it seem so, which just caused more pain. Thank God the 60s (and Dylan!) came along and swept these fluffy lies away.
Oh yes, let’s all get strung out on drugs and make the drug cartels ultra wealthy so they can take over and buy out elections. Mob store robberies, carjackings, gang shootings, violent rap lyrics. IT’S STRESSING EVERYONE OUT. How is it that when you look at older photos from the 50s most everyone was smiling? In Today’s cellphone pics many seem to be out of it or they have a miserable expression. Guess what, if you don’t appreciate real talent then you’re free to listen to listen to whatever you like.
i am 75 and my older sister used to sing all these old songs....day after day....i too still remember the words.....i made her a disk the other day of many of these olld songs and 83 she still sings them......for some reason, i remember those joni sang most of all
TODAY marks my husband Dicks and my Anniversary, Dec. 8th. Miss him More than anything every day of my life. Whitro, our beloved dog, and I are hanging in there as thank you for asking. The Dick Dale music lovers are the Best! Dick is missed beyond words as he is an incredible Genius who had an unforgettable presence and talent as well as who always said to me each day "You are the ONLY Love of my life." The GREATEST Man in the Universe!
I have been a Joni James fan since 1952. No other singer's music ever touched my heart, soul and life like Joni's. Have seen her in personal appearances many times over the years the last time being 2007 at Town Hall in New York City.
Lol, oh Robert Beatty I just said that same thing. I never even saw your comment first but you're so right, there's no beauty in music anymore like these two ladies could sing and Joni so unique and Connie with that cry in her voice? Ah man....no one else in the world " Mama" makes me cry everytime.
I was born in December 1958 but I Grew up Listening to mum 78rpm record of joni james it was not till I come to Usa in 1990s and for the first time I was able to get cds of joni. here in the uk she only had 2 hit one 1952 and other in 1959 its now 2022 and I still have mums 78rpm and few 45rpm that are on my jukebox 💖
Have a CD in my car with 27 of Joni's songs and listen to them often. Was seioner in HS when her first major hit Why don't you believe me came out. Love her music
I have five CDs playing every morning while I have coffee and read the paper -- Joni James hits and Nat King Cole's "Love is the Thing" are never taken off the player. I mix them up with Mozart and Rosie Clooney and Pizarelli. OK, I'm a Gemini . . . .
Lovely song. There'll never be another singer like Joni James. I had the honor of backing her up on the piano while performing on her show in Okinawa. Most unforgettable!
Jose Rono, how wonderful. She is and always will be ,one of a kind uniquely beautiful. I'm trying to collect her 40 😲 lps lol. My dad taught me of her music when I was a little girl. She and Connie Francis..my two favorite gorgeous Italian ladies of song. I love them both. 💖
I was always amazed she was able to follow this with the fabulous "There Must Be A Way." Hard to make two such great records in a row for any artist. I wanted her to record "I Don't See Me In Your Eyes Anymore" as a followup. She knew and liked the song but that did not happen. She had a very strong vision of what music she wanted to do and why and that prevailed.

Exactly sixty five years ago today on March 24th, 1955, "How Important Can It Be?" by Joni James peaked at #2 {for 1 week} on Billboard's 'Most-Played By Jockeys'* chart, for the week it was at #2, the #1 record for that week was "Sincerely" by the McGuire Sisters... Also at the time "How Important Can It Be?"" was at #10 on Billboard's Best-Sellers In Stores chart and at #8 on the Most-Played On Juke Boxes chart... Between 1952 and 1960 the Chicago, Illinois native had thirty two records on the Billboard charts, seven made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Why Don't You Believe Me?" for six weeks in December of 1952... Joni James, born Joan Carmella Babbo, will celebrate her 90th birthday in six months on September 22nd, 1930... * And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, the remainder of the Most-Played By Jockeys' Top 10 on March 24th, 1955: At #3. "Ballad of Davy Crockett" by Bill Hayes #4. "Melody of Love" by Billy Vaughn #5. "Tweedle Dee" by Georgia Gibbs #6. "Ko Ko Mo" by Perry Como #7. "Crazy Otto Medley" by Johnny Maddox and the Rhythmasters #8. "Ballad of Davy Crockett" by 'Tennessee' Ernie ford #9. "Earth Angel" by the Crew Cuts #10. "Darling Je Vous Aime" by Nat 'King' Cole
Hi Sauquoit 13456 - we meet again. TWO "Ballad of Davy Crockett' versions on the top 10. That says something. It has been so long since I've been to Sauquoit!
I didn't mean "There Must Be A Way," the followup to "There Goes My Heart," but "Is This The End of the Line," a record that had the distinction of being #1 in several cities, high on the Cashbox and Record World charts and not even on the Billboard Top 100.

T+catman916 This is live, not lip-synching. The phrasing is different from the recording; Joni seldom sang any song the same way twice. Coincidentally, most of the musicians and the Ray Charles SIngers were the same artists who performed on the record. Joni says the preparation for these T.V. appearances in the 1950s was thorough and done over several times. When she looks down as she starts the song she is looking at her mark on the floor to make sure is positioned correctly for the camera.
@@waynebrasler YES,it IS live. So VERY sorry to hear of her passing! I attended one of her comeback concerts (1995) as a music reviewer for DISCOVERIES Magazine. Did you know THE MONKEES even knew of her? JONI had stepped back from her career by the time "Bossa Nova Time" (1965) was recorded. I am not dreaming when I remember one of the Monkees saying "I was going to a JONI JAMES concert!" Probably something thrown in.

I bought a vinyl record of hers at Goodwill to try her music....she seemed so beautiful and had a great voice. I'm glad I discovered her music.
You said my thoughts i know all the words of those songs - and am 82 - it all meant something then....
Wonderful singer, and a lovely song which I recall from the 50s.😊

85 years old and I still remember the words to all her songs. Such a sweet girl and a voice of an angel ❤️
