That's basically the same with my cats. I got my black cat when she was newborn and she stopped being vocal after a few months of age. My cat used to do that! She would stand in front of the fridge & meow but put a "k" on the end!! She only did it when she was in front of the fridge, knowing her cat milk came from there! 🐈
Later in my cat's life, she started holding prolonged conversations with me. Several meows of different tones strung together without pausing. Then she'd stop, I'd answer with something arbitrary like "is that right?" And she'd continue. Tiny Cook Haha keep going until you house is covered in tape!! JK. Our cat tried that, but she eventually stopped doing it after she scratched the tape enough times
My cat learned that too, we put a clear plastic covering on our sofa, but he was persistent and scratched the plastic! He does it while looking directly at us with big eyes
My two cats are so vocal, it’s insane. It’s probably because whenever they meow at me, I meow back as a joke, and they probably take it to be a serious form of communication or even conversation.
My cat rarely makes a noise, and finally I think I've discovered why from this video. When she was a kitten she was thrown out, and approached my friend for help (a year later he found out that it was his neighbours who had abandoned her in snowy weather). I agreed to take her into my home, but did not expect her to survive as she was starved and traumatised, her behaviour suggesting that she had been physically abused. I now suppose that she did not learn a positive connection between making noise and getting attention, either nothing happened, or she was beaten. For weeks she did not need to make noises to attract me, I was fully attentive as she was in such a bad state. Now, as I'm retired, we spend a lot of time together, and she is rarely more than a few metres away (due to the state she was in when she came to me, she has become a house cat, and rarely shows any interest in outside, unless I am there). Consequently, she usually uses physical methods of telling me she is there, nudging, head butting and patting me with her paw is enough for me to react. She also knocks on the window if I'm outside. I think that in the 15 months I've had her, she has meowed less than ten times, chittered 3 or 4 times in my presence, and purred hardly ever. The only time that she was vocal was before she was spayed, so I know she can make noise. I'm so glad to have seen this video, I'm not so worried about her lack of noise.
Philip Meers What kind behaviors make you think she was abused in the past? I’ve heard that cats getting startled easily is just a cat thing in general.
@@cultofgunter881 When I first took Katy into my house she was frightened of women, and would try to attack them if they approached her. My friend who found Katy has since discovered that the woman, who appears to have been the person who abandoned her, has a reputation for treating her children, and other pets that she has had, badly. For a long time she was frightened if I walked close to her in shoes. She would try to hide. Yet if I was barefoot she did not react. At first, I thought she was just a cat that was nervous when I moved too quickly, but it became obvious that it was more. I discussed it with the vet, who said that there was evidence she had been injured more than once in the previous couple of months, and that it was due to being hit, being kicked, or possibly having been thrown against something.
Philip Meers Poor Katy :( , no pet should ever have to go through an owner experience like that.Glad to know that she’s in good hands now. I hope she’ll get over her trauma soon :)
@@cultofgunter881 Thank you. I'm pleased to say that my efforts have paid off. Katy trusts me, and likes spending time with me - sometimes too much, lol, it's like being the mother of a toddler, I've forgotten what privacy is! It's rare now that she shows negative behaviour, so I think she has forgotten the worst. I'm too polite to write down what I would like to do to people who abuse animals!
I think they are beautiful, complex, intelligent and awesome creatures. But not very loving. They don't make good pets, coz they aren't pack animals. They are solo, and don't belong in a family. Raising then as part of family puts them in an awkward position as they instinctively don't really care for others, but having human companionship gets them free food and shelter..
Marquiz Milton that’s simply not true. Cats can be very loving and affectionate. There’s a vast amount of studies suggesting felines are a bonding animal.
Hmmm.. maybe. I am not saying that cats are incapable of bonding. I've raised a couple of cats myself and they were quite affectionate too. i was just saying that they don't bond the way dogs or goats or other pack animals do. it is best to keep an animal that lives in a pack as a pet because their brain is wired to respond to a family hierarchy.
My cat figured out that there's no real cat, he doesn't even react anymore :[ lol. I tried letting him watch a screensaver with fish. He just went behind the screen, figured out that it was a trick, and lost interest.
I lost my baby boy, Mufasa, last October. I find it so comforting to know that he shared a language with only me. I could immediately know what he wanted, whether it be affection, food, or excitement, and it never occurred to me that someone else didn't understand. Miss you friend. ❤

Dorotea Robnik If I want to pet and adore my dog, he will let me and he loves it. I can't do that with my cat. He's just out for himself. He doesn't care about me. THAT is why dogs are way better pets
100% serious! They even played with each other in the bushes for a while, so I stopped and let them. Then when I wanted to go I just called out to them and they came running to me. I have weird cats ;P
i used to take my cat for strolls in the countryside. One time, midway through a stroll, I had heard some truffle in the dry leaves and spotted a young bird, as i was thinking about catching it, i look back at my cat and he has already started his charge. He made the catch look so easy, disabled the bird and brought him to me. I was so thankful but told him i couldn't eat it. So he ate it whole, feathers and everything. RIP Luke.
+NunyaDammeBiznis Cats learnt to meow without human interference. Dogs on the other hand, were taught to bark. WE did that to them. It's not the same thing.
So not only do they think we are big, hairless versions of other cats, they also think we're slow and so they "meow" to make us pay attention to them. So we are big, dumb, and hairless cats to them. Interesting.
@@siliconebaby6270 They also sometimes will lick your hair. Cats have been shown to practice grooming of others, so if they think you are a cat, then they will try to "groom" you.
Yeah, it's a weird noise. It's like they're chirping at the bird lol. I think they're just over-excited or something, or frustrated like they said in the video.
My cat did that. She spent an entire Sunday afternoon sitting on the windowsill watching the birds, and by the end of the day developed the 'ack ack ack' noise (like a clicking almost) and always replicated it when birds were nearby.
Cats do that to catch them. Copycat isn't just a random term. When a cat goes "ack ack ack", it is trying to chirp to make the bird let its guard down so it can kill it.
Don't look now, but I think your cat plans to shoot a death ray at it...XD ...Get it? When Martians Attack...ack-ack...ack ack...ack...I'm gonna go stand in the corner now.
I mean, my cat is spayed, but sometimes she’ll start yowling at night, and she won’t stop until someone gets up to talk to her. Then she’ll follow that person back to bed.

Sorry to hear that. The passing of a pet is extremely difficult to deal with. Hopefully, after some time, you'll be able to consider rescuing another cat, or two.
My cat has never uttered one meow since we got her. Nothing. I assume she’s a mute, she doesn’t even purr. I’ve had to adapt and learn her every tiny body movement and language. She speaks with her eyes and tail.
My cat didn’t used to meow before too, but now I moved and all he does is meow and demand things. Sometimes they learn to meow and other times they don’t I guess.

I spend alot of time on youtube lol

*if they bark
HHAHHAHAA
Philip Meers
Poor Katy :( , no pet should ever have to go through an owner experience like that.Glad to know that she’s in good hands now.
Cats are such beautiful complex and loving little critters.

I've had more than one cat that went "ack ack ack ack ack" when they saw birds.
My cat did that. She spent an entire Sunday afternoon sitting on the windowsill watching the birds, and by the end of the day developed the 'ack ack ack' noise (like a clicking almost) and always replicated it when birds were nearby.
Funny isn't it? They must have some sort of language. My cat also goes brup brup brup when she's about to be fed.
Mine does that too. Also when I use a laser pointer and beam it on the ceiling where it can't get it. Then it looks up at it and makes those sounds.
Cats do that to catch them. Copycat isn't just a random term. When a cat goes "ack ack ack", it is trying to chirp to make the bird let its guard down so it can kill it.
Don't look now, but I think your cat plans to shoot a death ray at it...XD
