Thanks. You were not kidding about those screws being hard to get out. I started with a short extension, but found that a longer extension worked better. Also, thanks for sending us out for the right tools. I never would have gotten the screw out without the swivel head ratchet I picked up because you called out the weird angle.
I am not dissin this is just a suggestion. I love the video couldnt have done this without this video..... But put those two 8 mils back .. every time you hit a bump your radio rattles on the frame !
A few tidbits that might be helpful for anybody reading the comments: Those 2 8 millimeter screws are also Phillips head. I removed them no problem with a normal Phillips screwdriver, the angle is necessary for the length of a screwdriver. I tried with a stubby screwdriver and it didn't work as well for me. Removing the temperature control panel, first remove the 4 screws and then push the center of the fan and temperature knobs, it will pop out. And if you have one of the models with a stock amplifier (I think they're the EX and LX models) you will probably get super pissed off because you wire up everything to the wiring harness you bought and there's still no sound: there's one additional wire you need to connect to your amp control wire, but it's in one of the extra harnesses you unplugged from the stock radio. The wire your looking for is a light blue wire attached to the grey 20-pin wire harness. Make sure you're not cutting the wrong harness! If it's not bundled with the main stereo wiring harness, it's the wrong one.
Is that the external device connector??? It’s not on the main radio harness, and when I looked up the diagram, it says pin 20 is NC (not connected). Is it safe to say that if there is a blue wire connected there to follow suit with what you said?
I hit the like button without prompting, but I like your style. Some people just don't appreciate good (and free) information. I'd have broken something if I hadn't watched this.
OH LOWD .... I was going to just "pop out" my factory stereo to put in a noise filter because I started getting the buzzing that goes up and down with the RPMS and needed to splice into the power line on the back but after watching your video...I will just live with the buzzing ! Your video is FANTASTIC but holy F-ING shit...Love my Hondas but they are killing me with what you have to take upart to get to the radio. I bet nobody ever stole one of these radios back in the day unless they had a jack hammer ! Loved your video , Great work ! A+++++++++++
I know vid is old but if you ever come across this, the part with the angle screwdriver, a small socket from your standard entry mechanical set fits perfectly with no hassle other than finding the bolt
Doing an install similar, how did you wire up the factory radio connector to the back? Did you buy an adapter or did you just pick and place into the correct slots. Also I found that a standard ratchet with a deep 8mm socket worked best for the shit screws under the dash.
Important to note, Honda has that little rectangular antenna connector, you NEED TO HAVE the Scosche HAAB adapter, to get the antenna to attach to the ROUND connector on the back of the head unit. Found this out AFTER I had everything ready to button up. Get it when you buy the stereo and cables, don't make this mistake like I did.
Thanks for the how to. I have pull one out of my mother's car, not so much to replace it, but I need the serial number, so I can get the security code from a Honda dealer. The battery was replaced and since she bought it used, we don't have the codes
I don't care if I'm late to this party. Where does the hose that goes to the little vent bit go? I couldn't get mine back on and ended up popping it from the deeper end. Fixing this weekend while I do speakers and get behind headunit again for tidy up
Someone post a link for that angled screwdriver? Couldn't track it down at harbor freight and home depot has a driver for like $20 not dropping that on the tool
I recently had to put a new battery in my car and I bought it used and of course the person did not provide me with an owner's manual and there is no sticker for the radio serial number in or around the glove box. How do I get the serial number off the radio without removing it entirely? Was that the sticker on that cable when you took the panel off? Thank you!
You know the actual volume knob? When I turn the knob left or right the radio just does whatever it wants (turns the volume up or down). I’ve been looking for a way to just pop the knob off but I haven’t found anything. I don’t want to break my shit but if I can take the knob off and turn whatever’s under the knob to control the volume that would be great. Do you think I can just force it off or should I just live with a crappy knob?
I recently installed a double din stereo to my 09 honda civic ex but it won't turn on I'm going to rewire everything again but the fuse on the back is good, does anyone have any idea what it could be?
Before you do a full re wire just check your power make sure you have constant 12volts on yellow. A good ground on black and 12volts om ignition(red wire) it sounds like you don't have ignition or could be a blown fuse somewhere
Apparently it was just the whole head unit that didn't have power at all I ended just spending extra money for a pioneer and worked just perfectly, thanks for the help
Ok so I'm in on the HF cheap tools but spend some bucks and pick up a Milwaukee 3/8"Cordless Ratchet. Retired 20 years ago and have all the air tools in a drawer but never use them because of the battery tools. Ryobi is cheap and works but their ratchet is a brick so go Milwaukee.
NO ..there will be a #/letter code on the front by the AUX button that MUST match the current radio with replacement OEM one. wiring harness in back is different for different radios
Easier way is you DO not need to remove the panal all the way covering the speedodemeter. If reistalling a factory OEM unit just loosen it but dontvtake it off all the way. A bit easier.

thanks man thats why i made the video

The best video I’ve seen for removing stereo on Honda made it easy af for me
What about the wiring installation
I know vid is old but if you ever come across this, the part with the angle screwdriver, a small socket from your standard entry mechanical set fits perfectly with no hassle other than finding the bolt
I know this comment is old but do have the link to one that would fit?

The part about the 8mm bolts. Had me cracking up bro. "I'm gonna save you the hassle... now let's get back to it.". Lol
I hit the like button. Well done bro

How do I hook a remote wire from after market amp to the 2010 honda civic? Amp doesn’t turn on while plugged in without that remote wire it seems
Thumbs-up for your explanation in detail, thumbs down to the designers who designed this mockery of a system!
Ah nice I didn't know the radio plastic bezel was just that little piece. Thought you had to replace the whole dash lmao. Thanks so much!
I don't care if I'm late to this party.

Good looks bro, needed to see what this new work gonna need
anytime man thats why i do these
Just wondering you never showed how the knobs fit through the hole. The knobs are bigger than the hole that they go through
Thanks for the info. If you want to have some real fun, replace the starter, talk about design flaws....
Hahaha I did. It was a pain in the ass
Someone post a link for that angled screwdriver? Couldn't track it down at harbor freight and home depot has a driver for like $20 not dropping that on the tool
My car alarm goes off after about 3 hours what should I do
Great video. It’s definitely going to make my life easier. You still have the civic?
These HVAC buttons are not popped out like other videos.
I recently had to put a new battery in my car and I bought it used and of course the person did not provide me with an owner's manual and there is no sticker for the radio serial number in or around the glove box. Man you saved my brain...lol...great video
Thanks man, got a 2011 and wanted to upgrade. This helps
Wow from Boston shout out n you work wonders bro plus u familiar looking bro, thanks ..
Very helpful big thanks from africa dakar senegal
nouman papus wow Africa that's awesome. Glad I can help
how do you remove the ac unit controls? all the videos i have watched none of them show how to remove it...
Very well executed and explained.
My favorite is how you say you won't put the dash retention bolts in, then say buy pry tools to do it right.
Very helpful info for my upcoming install. Thanks, man.
How come you don't show anything about the fact that you have to tap into the factory amp turn on wire
Great help man thank you.

Knobs just pull off stick a pry tool under and gently and carefully pull back going around it
Bram Berkowitz I’ll try that thanks
have u ever did a head unit install on a 2004 acura rl ?
Chad Seymour yes rl and tl
Do u have a link for there dash kits?
Chad Seymour i dont. the customer bought some kind of kit online from a foreign company

Very good instructions, thanks 😊
Anytime I started a 2nd channel with over 200 how tos like this called JPTHEINSTALLGUY check it out sometime
Where’d You Find Dat At ?- Stinc Team😈
Why would you use a ratchet and not just use a Phillips screw driver for the front pocket?
Use whatever works best for you
Ok so I'm in on the HF cheap tools but spend some bucks and pick up a Milwaukee 3/8"Cordless Ratchet. Retired 20 years ago and have all the air tools in a drawer but never use them because of the battery tools. Ryobi is cheap and works but their ratchet is a brick so go Milwaukee.
perfect, cheers dude this is exactly what I needed, I'm doing the same upgrade on my 09 VTi!
Can I install any 2006-2008 stereo unit into my 2006 honda civic and have it work?
No one seems to mention if this could.
Should work fine
NO ..there will be a #/letter code on the front by the AUX button that MUST match the current radio with replacement OEM one. wiring harness in back is different for different radios
What if i already have the dash kit? Do i need to follow all the steps anyway?
i would say yes because the dash kit has to have old parts from the old dash to the new one
Which cord is the Bluetooth? I wanna get rid of it. I've heard it drains your battery.
purpledonatello bluetooth will never drain the battery
holy hell I can’t get those two screws out wtf
Good vid.
Just as i thought it would be.
Wasn't sure if it's 1or2 8m"m bolts
Very helpful. Thanks a lot!
Did you keep your steering wheel audio controls working?
yes had to use the aswc-1
jpsaudio08 Great! , thankyou dor the info ; )
jpsaudio08 what wires did you use for the steering wheel control on your factory wires
Easier way is you DO not need to remove the panal all the way covering the speedodemeter. If reistalling a factory OEM unit just loosen it but dontvtake it off all the way. A bit easier.
I couldn’t believe how hard I worked to take those 8 mls out all that work for those tiny ass screws
What wiring harness did you use for the new stereo?
I am doing this project myself, and the wiring harness that i bought did not fit.
I hit the like button!!! lol thanks
Very helpful thanks you

Nice one dude. :)
Good video the music is incredibly distracting and makes it hard to hear
Haha those 2 8m bolts were annoying trying to put back in so I said screw it no pun intended
