I cannot eat rice or any other starchy foods. I find it easier in terms of will power to just never eat the starch, rather than to eat just a little bit.
Some people are able to control themselves as they permit themselves small amount of carbohydrates occasionally. I cannot endorse that choice, but I recognize some people are able to manage it.
What I have heard from influencers such as Doctor Ken Berry, is that keto with some small occasional carbs does work and for most people is a more attainable pathway to good health. However, they also say that after one or two years, many people on ketogenic diet with some occasional carbohydrates, start to have problems maintaining their discipline. Maybe you will be ok, but if you find yourself slipping, you might at that stage reconsider whether you can continue to eat rice.
I wish you good health and the best of success.

I dropped him as my doctor and began educating myself on the miraculous endocrine system. I began walking 5K steps a day and a diet as you described. I do the finger pricks to monitor. My initial A1C in Nov. was 7.9. In Feb 2019 I got another test and was down to 6.2. At first I was disappointed, but your explanation of the lag really bolstered me to continue. This video REALLY helped me understand my numbers! Thanks!!

Hello health champion..you have truly changed my life. I am so grateful that I watched and learned from all of your videos. My husband had an A1C of 6.7 and Dr's wanted him on meds. He gave us 3 months to bring it down. So I went to work. I stopped all sugar, grains, and starches. We ate real food not processed and ate healthy fats. I learned from you that the blood cells take 3 months to regenerate. We pricked 3 times a day to monitor everything. We rechecked the A1C after 4 months which was exciting. It was 4.6. So so thankful to you. Now I,m working on my cholesterol. Do you have more videos on that. I just found a few. Thank you so much Sir !

What scares me is how totally ignorant most doctors we meet in practices are today on this topic. I went to see my doc in december explaining all of my symptoms and he was clearly still locked in to the "flat earth paradigm". So I learnt myself, analyzed, made changes and am so much better today. Not perfect but on my way to better health. Had no idea a year ago bloodsugar and insulin can be such silent killers for someone like me who thought I ate pretty healthy. After following your advice for about 3.5 months (very low carbs, high protein, relatively high natural fats, intermittent fasting increasing to 15 hours per day), I've just received my HbA1c and Glucose results as follows:
    HbA1c (IFCC) 29 mmol/mol or INGSP of 4.8, let's say, in your speak, 86.5 mg/dl
    Glucose (Random) 4.9 mmol/L or, again, 88.2 mg/dl
Early last year, I was diagnosed with my first attack of gout, and just about the most pain I'd ever want to experience in my life, after reaching high uric acid levels and more than enough evidence of increasing amounts of both subcutaneous and visceral fat. I think your followers will know what drives uric acid and adipose tissue deposits to those levels but, just to confirm, soft drinks sweetened with fructose and other sugary and starchy foods. Clearly, with the hindsight of the meaning of metabolic disease, these changes were the result of my poor diet and physiological stress while caring for an aged family member over a number of years. I had a BMI of 28.5, heading in the wrong direction. Today I weighed in at 85.5kg, almost 10kg less than 4 months ago, and my BMI is approaching 25 (top of the ideal range). The loss of just 2kg more will see me at my ideal weight. My lower abdomen has now taken on a much greater definition and I look pretty ok in the mirror at 73.
You, and a couple of others like you, have my eternal gratitude for providing both the intellectual and practical means to reverse these conditions and allow ourselves to live more humanistic lives. Nothing could ever compensate you for your heroic generosity and kindness, let alone your invaluable knowledge and insights.
    Well done, Doc.

I'm a recently diagnosed, but unmedicated diabetic. I've been testing my morning glucose for a week now. I don't want any medication for a problem diet can resolve, and your videos have taught me a very great deal, but I still have a lot to learn about my body, and how it reacts to my food.
I've cut all the crappy empty carbs I used to eat, but it is taking me a while to understand how much fat I need to put into myself to replace the energy which used to be provided by sugar/carbs. I've cut out all processed foods containing seed oils.
I'm 3kg down from my 100kg diagnosed weight, which is a good start, and my glucose is hovering around the 7.2 mark. I understand it may take some time for my poor pancreas to recover and for my poor cells to slowly become less insulin resistant. Thanks for the video!

I was 100kg, BMI of 30 and about the same glucose levels. Regular Prolonged fasting (3 days once a month, and a 24-36 hours once a week) is what I needed to kickstart my insulin resistance reversal process. It has taken about 12 months, I’m now 75kg and have levels of 5.2 and still dropping. Eggs are really good at lowering glucose levels. I eat a scrambled egg a couple of times a day. When I do my glucose levels go down to 4.6 and stays there for a few hours. I monitored my glucose levels after each type of foods and have had to cut out things like tomatoes and bell peppers, which spike my glucose levels as much as a mars bar.

Charlie Fox --- Any video where the RUclipsr says ignore government nutrition advice gets a thumbs up from me . --- I was born in 1970 and prior to my birth a vast amount of American citizens were living on Homestead situations eating from their own garden . After the 1970 period going into the 1980's the American Citizens had moved into town and began eating microwaved meals and something called T.v., dinners . The government back then had pushed the Food Pyramid in the class rooms and made the claim that every meal was to be based on the food pyramid . Well according to the food pyramid structure Pizza becomes the perfect meal it has the grains , dairy, meats and vegetables if you eat the "Hawaiian style" then you even have fruit . It's my belief that the Government created the medical situation that we see now in the U.S. they educated us to believe we were eating healthy because we were in keeping with the food pyramid , so now everyone's sick .

Thank you. I started from an 8.4 three months ago and took some time to get my glucose levels down. I have a very healthy diet. Do not touch any confectionery, plain carbs or excessive protein. Lots of veggies, some nuts and flesh sourced protein. Walking everyday. But TIME and healthy habits is the crux

Thank you Doctor for making the effort to educate us on proper nutrition. In addition to my keto diet I have also stopped drinking alcohol in any form. Unfortunately, due to a poor diet and regular consumption of alcohol, I now suffer from peripheral neuropathy. I discovered that I had it about ten years ago. My doctor told me that diabetes and chemotherapy were the leading cause of this condition. In the past I have never been diagnosed as diabetic and thankfully have never had chemotherapy. I suspect that due to poor diet and alcohol I’ve damaged my nervous system irreparably. I tell everyone I know that alcohol is a dreadful product. One that should be avoided at all costs. I’m in my 60’s and walk like an 85 year old man.

That’s great! It looks like you got it down quite a bit!
I think you’ll get it to the level you want in probably a little less than the 6-7 weeks it took you to reach your current milestone.

Thank you very much for explaining this. I've been told by medical staff that as long as you're A1C is at 7 you're good, no need to go lower than that. Just did not seem right, why wouldn't you want to be lower if someone who isn't diabetic would have a much lower A1C? Appreciate knowing to not be discouraged if the number doesn't go down as fast as we'd like. Thanks~

Dr Ekberg, thanks for the educational videos, about my story 59 year old Male, high stress career, was diagnosed pre diabetic - the data points are at time of diagnosis were weight 235ibs A1c 8.2 (yikes) then went on a hardcore mission to take back control without meds. 10 weeks later A1c 6.2 (wow I am fixed I thought) alas not... weight down 210lbs and dropping, what did I do, I researched and found yours and other great videos and cut sugar cut carbs, did intermittent fasting and exercised…. I also noticed blood pressure dropped to a much better level and a lot of other small health issues cleared up.... my target A1C low 5's and 180lbs ...thanks again

Relember there are two main types. And under them you find sub types especially under type 2.
The info here is good, but it’s not a video about diabetes. There is more to it. However some of the info given here, one may spend years with doctors to find out, even more so to understand the mechanism and consequences.

I really appreciate this information. Three months ago my A1c was 6.5 and my doctor put me on medication and a diet. I monitored my glucose and watched it steadily come down from fasting approximately 137 to 116. I have also lost about a pound a week for a total of 13 lbs. at this writing. I had a follow-up test this week to check progress and was disappointed to find out that my A1c had only dropped to 6.4. After watching your video, I now understand why.

I seriously enjoy all of your videos! Great and uncomplicated explanations for all levels of understanding!. My medical docs did not seem concerned about my A1C which was about 5.6-5.7 and glucose of about 117 or less fasting because it was not in their ranges of trouble BUT yet I constantly complained of many symptoms that diabetics can face such as constant fatigue, unable to lose weight despite diets ect.... I've been off the small and not daily amounts of sugar and carbs (mostly bc I was gluten-free) for a few months now. It got to the point where I developed Afib and another arrhythmia along with chronic and draining brain fog. I am still not able to lose any weight. Doing Keto of course for health. I wish this would speed up because life is still passing me by. I'd like to see more videos on how to help the A1C come down with herbs or other possible means. I've taken berberine but that causes digestive upset for me. Thank you!

Thank You Carol R While there are many general things that a person can do to improve their health, such as reducing sugar, grain and processed foods. Some conditions are a little more complicated and require very specific analysis of the body. In my office we use Nutrition Response Testing to find and handle the root cause of the problem.

Hi, I've very glad to have come across your videos. My HbA1C was 142 about 2 years ago but the medical center told me only very casually about it, and I continued as normal , having no idea it was much of an issue. 1 year ago measured again and 141 then twice since 139 and lastly (about 2 or 3 months ago) 136. . I was generally eating a little bit "better" but not having a clue about Low carbs, high protein, high good qual fats. Anyway I'm fairly strictly starting to put things into action from these videos in the last few days... see what happens I guess. I'm also intermittent fasting, which I find seems to be fairly fine for 16 hours and only then am I really getting peckish, After 17 I'm feeling very urgent to eat!

I started to follow a strict ketogenic diet six weeks ago, This week I went to have annual check up and blood work ordered, came out with A1C level is 5.7.
I have told the family doctor I am in keto diet, but his recommendation was to decrease the suger and carbohydrates in my food.
Now I understand the timing issue 😒.
    Thank you Doctor.

I started having vision issues with fine print, had an A1C 5.6 and BG of 168 when I first started testing with my old diet. 3 weeks of eating right, exercise, no carbs, no sugar, no breads, no white rice, no pop, and no white flour my vision is slowly getting better. My fasting BG 101-104 and BG spikes are down to 115-124 an hour after meals. Your right it takes time to correct as I have found. My goal is 5.1 to 5.3 on my next A1C test in two months!
