I eat a low carb diet. I am 61 years old with family history of heart disease. I have high cholesterol. My doctor wanted to put me on 80 mg of Lipitor. I Said no I wanted a heart CT. She said it wasn’t a good test and that she had never ordered one before. I had it and I scored zero. I had a cardiology consult. The cardiology PA said I didn’t need a statin since I scored zero. There is a huge medical disconnect here....
True.....and, to their defense, it's what they're taught. WE will have ti educate them by example! Thankfully, my cardiologist has no issues with my diet and the results show. Off BP meds.....scorded a zero on my CAC....lost 90 lbs. Been Keto for 9+ years and am now fully Carnivore. Still suffering from inflammation so I wanted to try Dr. Berry's advice of 3 months Carnivore to see what improvements there are. SURPRISINGLY, lifting weights for almost a month has shown almost same results as a full year of lifting weights on Keto! Even wife has noticed my muscle growth but commented on how "hard" they are. I'm astonished. 50, almost 51, BTW.
I believe most physicians refuse to listen because they have ceased seeking knowledge. You are a fantastic physician because you never closed your eyes in your search for the truth. You sir are a blessing to humanity.
You fail to see who doctors really are. Medical schools want all A students, not independent thinkers. This means that the kids who make it thru their system are the best little regiritators who have parents who constantly check all their homework, help them study, really want their kids in what to some is high status occupations, and are willing to spend a fortune to support their kid thru years and years of a dubious training. Nowhere in this system is room for kids who question anything. Doctors are the hardest working compliers. You don't actually figure in the plan.
Right before the holidays, I started having blurred near vision with my glasses all of a sudden. Eye doctor visit showed everything fine, but doc told be to check my blood sugar at my GP visit. Scheduled a visit in January and my A1c came back as 13.7 (I have a copy of the labs). Was put on insulin immediately. I started researching what Dr. Berry and Dr. Fung were saying about it being an insulin problem vs. a blood sugar problem. Changed my diet: low carb + fasting. My follow up A1c in April was 5.1 (have a copy of those labs as well). No more vision issues. I understand now that the vision issue was from high glucose levels pulling water into the lens. If I had listened to my GP, I'd still be on insulin (I got to stop taking it w/in 2 weeks) and probably have gained 10-15 lbs. I've went from a jacket size of 46 to a 42 and I can wear size 34 waist pants (down from 38's). I can't stress just how valuable a service people like Dr. Berry are providing.
Hard to believe you lowered your a1c that much in a few months. I've been struggling for a year with low carb, IF, and it didn't drop one unit. Still 5.7
I argued with my primary about my A1C, which was 6.3. I started eating like a diabetic, lost 50 lbs, and got my A1C down to 5.8 a few weeks ago. Still working on getting it lower.
Keep pushing!!!! Low carb, whole foods. My Dr says Treat yourself I reply I do Every time I test and see two digit numbers. Rock on!!! Despite the crap You CAN live large and in charge and be Diabetic. Keto 8 yrs Zero meds I am unfortunately one like Dr Berry who can't keep it lower without going very low carb and since I am currently, again, without a Dr I have no way to increase the benefit of diet. My last Hba1c was 5 6% Now I'm not you You do not know your status. Push as hard as you can and go for it all. If it doesn't work out THEN you figure out your next step with your Dr.
One powerful tool is fasting. Just a couple of days a week will push it lower. Despite our culture view fasting is natural and healthy. Our body is built for it . It was and is a natural part of human life.
Years ago my doc tried to suggest statins to me when I was a few months pre keto. Never has said anything else about it in over 3.5 years since I began keto. HE HAS HOWEVER APPROVED AND I RECEIVED MY LOOSE SKIN SURGERY IN JANUARY 2021!! Woot!

Incredible. If you don't mind spending $22 out of pocket you can order your own test on "ownyourlabs" web site. Order the Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (which includes glucose) for $8.75 and Insulin for $12.60 (You want to get glucose with the insulin so you can compute HOMA-IR)
You can look up the formula for computing HOMA-IR. I think it's: HOMA-IR = (Insulin * Glucose) / 405 Ben Bikman can tell you how to interpret it. I think it's something like this: HOMA-IR: 1.0 or less is ideal (very good insulin sensitivity) 1.1 to 2.0 is okay 2.1 to 3.0 definitely not good Over 3.0 Red Alert (severe insulin resistance) Pulling these from memory, so use with caution. Better if you get exact ranges from Dr. Bikman.
Where I live, it is possible to to am A1C via a finger prick test at the pharmacy for just a few dollars. Might be worth going to some of the bigger ones and asking :-)
I'm a diabetic and my last A1c was 5.2. My doctor is very excited. I've been off Glipizide for a month and my afternoon glucose reading was 88. I eat mostly protein and healthy fats along with a small serving (3 times a week) of vegetables such as sauerkraut, asparagus, spinach, or artichoke hearts. At age 76 my A1C is 5.0 (Highest ever was 6.4 4 years ago)....over the last 3 years my highest was 5.2...I don't do Keto/Carnivore, but I do low carb and intermittent fast at 20/4..Following Dr Berry and Dr Berg has changed my life...no health issues and very active
This is the cause of near every human ailment.... I had so much pain and so many issues before dropping my carbs and upping my omega 3/6ratio. I'm not keto per say as my body seems to really like some carbs but I choose them wisely, never eat them standalone and never more than 15% of my daily calories.
Yes, I've been saying this, but no one wants to hear it, especially the medical community. They all want to blame fat and red meat as the enemy. I learned this on my own working as an RN in the cardiac ICU, 20 years ago. Patients coming in with repeat heart attacks, on statins for years with cholesterol under 150, low blood pressure on meds, most were diabetics. Many were repeat offenders, starting with stent placement and then progressing to bypass surgery and/or valve replacements. There were few that weren't diabetics. I figured it out because statins were not preventing repeat heart attacks, as we have been told, and low cholesterol was not helpful either. It's always been the the years of high glucose levels destroying the vascular system that is to blame, from consuming high carb and sugar on the SAD diet. Smoking tobacco and abusing alcohol doesn't help.

I’m a 57 years old started seeing a new doctor last month. I haven’t been to a doctor in 4 years. I started a low carb almost zero sugar way of eating. Fast 18 hours a day sometimes do a 24, 48, and occasionally a 72 hour fast. I lost 70 pounds and have stayed in that range over two years. Great energy haven’t felt better. So my new doctor did bloodwork said my liver kidneys everything great, except I have dangerously high cholesterol. So he told me to avoid the meat butter and all the things that have helped me lose the weight and make me feel so much better. And of course per scribed a cholesterol medication. Well I’ve decided to stick to what’s made me feel better. Doctors work with pharmaceuticals to make the money and push pills.
Is there any truth that taking Metamucil helps lower cholesterol?? I did that for awhile. It helped. C numbers went down. Doc said Metamucil absorbs the C and gets pooped out before the body absorbs the C.
The ask then is; "What is my Cholesterol/Triglyceride ratio? If it's less than 1.5, your chance of heart attack and/or stroke is greatly reduced. Which is the reason for prescribing the med. It's pretty dumb when you think about it.
A1C is in normal range at 6 but my Dr told me to immediately change my diet n get that number lower regardless. When I went in for something else a month later, she was delighted I lost over twenty pounds n eagerly listened to what I had done with my diet. I'm blessed to have her, she's supportive of this lifestyle and always suggests diet intervention first regarding allergies and diabetes.
In short, the correlation between HbA1c and arterial plaquing is far greater than the amount of cholesterol one has in relation to arterial plaquing. When it comes to cardiovascular disease it is NOT about the cholesterol. Its about the damage that the arterial walls incur as a result of fluctuations in blood sugar, which weaponizes cholesterol and turns it from a benign and beneficial thing, to a plaquing agent. Focusing on cholesterol, instead of blood glucose, is like focusing on the oxygen in the air instead of the matches and gasoline when investigating an arson. Yes, oxygen (i.e. cholesterol) is present at the scene of the crime, because the fire (i.e. the plaquing) could not exist without it. However, what causes oxygen to fuel the fire are the matches and gasoline (i.e. high blood sugar).
I had a coronary event at age 38 in December 2019. My weight was 273lbs and when I look at my charts, my lipid panel at the time was terrible. My HDL was 35, LDL 148, Triglycerides 181, VLDL 36, and Hemo A1c 5.2. Dr. Berry is right...A1c is only one part of the equation. I began the keto lifestyle with fasting in March 2020. I then had a new lipid panel done in December 2020. HDL went to 43, LDL to 75, Triglycerides 34 and VLDL 7 (I didnt have an A1c done at that time). At that time, I weighed in at 188lbs. I just had a new lipid panel done in June 2021 with A1c as well. HDL is now 53, LDL 71, Triglycerides 26, VLDL 5 and A1c is 4.5. I'm still waiting on my advanced lipid panel to break down the different LDL numbers. I started out the typical keto, trying to find replacements for my favorite foods like cheescake, rice, bread, etc. Lost like 40lbs from March to September 2020. Then decided to go full carnivore October, and that's when I lost a lot of weight! But after Thanksgiving, I've been following a very strict low carb Mediterranean Keto diet with lots of salmon, sardines, oysters, 100% grass fed beef, lamb, pastured pork, pastured eggs, organs, leafy greens, olives, and some nuts like Brazil nut, pecans and macadamias. Additionally, I do OMAD most days with a few 2MADs peppered in here and there to keep the body guessing. I fill my meals with protein, fat and some fiber to keep me satiated. I finally understand the difference between hunger and cravings. At this moment, I am 168lbs. My doctors have finally agreed to reduce my statins. They've also taken me off Plavix and the blood pressure meds, and cut my beta blockers in half. This lifestyle is sustainable, and it works. Dr. Berry, Dr. Fung, Maria Emmerich among others have really opened my eyes to how the body really works. Thank you, Dr. Berry!
I just wanted to start by saying i also live in TN . I started ketovore/carnivore and my A1C has went down from over 11.5 to 8! Still working towards getting it lower. I have watched everything i can from you and your wife Neisha. Thank you all for opening my eyes to what i need to be doing.
I lost 85 pounds, dropped my A1C to 5.5 (so far), shed my arthritis, and feel years younger. I've struggled with health issues for years with the help of my doctor. By going carnivore last November, I've witnessed an astounding change in my overall health (which just keeps improving day after day). I asked my doctor why he didn't give me that advice. He said that they don't teach those things in med school. I find myself debating my health care with him. He plays the averages on hundreds of patients. I play the details on myself. Averages just aren't good enough. My A1C is gradually dropping and I, like you, think that there is no such thing as good enough. Under 5.7? Better, but why stop trying? Even if I get to better than average, that's not good enough!

I must say that as far as I’m concerned you’re the best of all. You always make it real, and your sense of pragmatism has always helped me guard myself from falling in the trap of dogmatism as I pursue my keto/IF journey. I live in West Africa, not in the US at this point in time. You made it possible for me to hang in tight and not be discouraged simply because I can’t find this or that here. I do with what I can find where I am. Whenever I hear something that makes keto/IF sound like a religion, I think of everything I learned from you in the beginning of my learning process, and I say to myself, “I’m gonna stick to the wisdom of my first doctor.” Thank you so very much for everything Dr Berry. In July of 2020 I had an A1C of 9.7, I made the decision to get my health under control. I have now lost 102lbs and have an A1C of 4.9 when i did my last blood/urine tests. I did it by eating low carb and cutting out all the junk, so it can be done. I feel the best I've felt in three decades, I'm 51 and never going back to that life. Dr. Berry and many others I have taken advice and guidance from on my journey to get healthier. I thank them all.
My A1c is 6.3, and my dr told me I am diabetic, and will always be diabetic, just a "controlled diabetic." Time for a new dr??? Update: my A1c is now 5.3
Diabetes is a progressive disease, but it can be put into remission more than once. Mine is currently 6.0; 2 years ago it was 7.6. I kept this from my doctor until I could get myself under control. My newest issue is that all my pants are falling off my waist. My hubby said my underwear are baggy. 😉 I got a cgm just for 2 weeks. Gotta tell you, not seeing 6.0! I'm excited to see what she finds!
My A1c has been fairly consistant at between 6 and 7 for 10 years. Ive been type 2 for 17 yrs. My cardiologist was astounded that I have next to no plaque and my arteries for my age (68) are excellant even though my cholesterol is a little on the high side. I have no other side issues related to diabetes. Ive just started Keto and am going to transition to Carnivore WOE. 😊
U want cholesterol “a little high” if ur older. Keep it “high”. Elderly ppl do not do well with low to normal cholesterol. Get ur triglycerides down n ignore the rest.
@@YeshuaKingMessiah You mean higher large fluffy LDL particles. Again, the LDL-C doesn’t differentiate between the particle types; one needs the right tests. Statins don’t help.
Same here. Started keto 28 months ago and ketovore now. Sometimes go full carnivore for a while. My fasting glucose was high before that, but never had an A1c. However I was also 305 lbs about 3 years ago and 290 when I started keto. Last fall my A1c was 5.0 at my bi-annual physical and I'm at about 185 lbs. now. Coronary artery scan score was zero 3 months ago.
What an ethical and decent physician Dr. Berry is. My primary care is a PA, and I barely get a word of advice from him. Dr. Berry has been so much help for me, as I have lowered my a1c markedly, and my weight is down to what it was 40 years ago. I also feel healthier. Some bodily pain that comes with age has diminished as well. This man is a life saver!
I got the kit and decided to check my A1C, since my bloodwork in September never included it, nor did any doctor who took my bloodwork ever test it. I’m glad with the result at 4.8. I eat a Keto/Carnivore lifestyle thanks to you Dr. Berry! I just checked my husband’s and his results were 6.0. He’s not as strict on his way of eating, but maybe he will start working on it now. I will be showing the kit to my class tomorrow and letting them know my results. I love you for what you are doing. I struggle with people who don’t want to get healthy, but if I reach one person it’s worth what I’m doing. I showed both your RUclips videos on A1C last Thursday to my group and planning on doing it again tomorrow night. Pray people will open their eyes and ears. Had a cardiologist tell his patient, a man coming to my seminar that red meat will kill him. He’s believing his doctor and now will not come back. I sent his wife your video of how restrictive carnivore was and told her you eat red meat everyday. I also was given a Cardiac diet that this man’s doctor gave him. I wrote down the food I would have ate on this very diet they suggested. Carbs for the day in the first scenario was 377 the second scenario 287. I could not believe this man will go back to eating this very way. Sad for sure.
On April 15, my A1c was 10.7 and my blood sugar was 268… on April 16 I went fully keto with as low a daily carb count as possible… on July 16 I go back to the doctor for a new test. I dropped 22 pounds so far.
@@njsongwriter I am a cancer survivor and will be getting a screening on June 30, so by scheduling my next appointment on July 16 I give the doc time to review my screening before I sit down with him again. My thoughts are to get a full blood panel done at my oncology clinic, and have the new results for the appointment to maximize the quality of my visit.
The longer I do Keto to reverse T2D the more clear it is to me that I need to eat basically carnivore or at least Ketovore to get my A1c down as low as possible. Currently 6.1 and that's after 3 months of quite a bit of almond flour .......in cakes etc. Working on it daily.
I came to the same realization, ditching all the almond flour, ketofied foods and snacks for my long-term survival. I see the numbers drop drastically the closer I get to sticking with a full carnivore way of eating. Dr. Berry speaks volumes of truth!
@@YeshuaKingMessiah It is not easy... Because it is powder and it does not dissolve very well... Ceylon cinnamon does have less taste though. I coughed quite a few times. But I was using a 1/3 of a teaspoon per meal.
My wife's score was 5.9 and her doctor said it's fine. I told here she is pre-diabetic but she is still eating sugar and gluten snacks, lots of carbs, and generally is on the road to full blown D2. My A1c was 5.3 and I am a bit worried, however now more than a year of keto and I bet my A1c is much lower. I will have it tested soon to fine out. I am so glad I found Keto in time or my A1c might be getting dangerously high too. I have never had a CAC test but I will be getting one soon, wow that is a bit stressful thinking about...
try some fresh chicken liver. look for organic and cage free chicken. I did one time and I feel like my eyes got some more power after the chicken liver meal. But it came back to normal after a week.
I do realize that peppers are in the nightshade family, however lectins don’t affect everyone the same, not to mention when peppers are cooked the lectins are weakened. Thanks anyway.
I started Keto and it took 2.5 weeks to get my glucose from 186 to 86. At the 2.5 month mark my A1C was at 5.1 down from 8.6. My doctor was excited to say the least. I lost 60 lbs in 12 weeks and a year later it is still off. Now doing Ketovore and IF. Goal is to get % body fat to 16%
My AIC was 4.1 a few weeks ago. Also lowered my triglycerides from 468 down to 164! Cholesterol was 218 and my NP wanted to put me on meds. I politely declined.
Triglycerides of 164 is still too high. It should be under 100. Have you considered getting an HOMA-IR test to determine your level of insulin resistance?
He is a remarkable Dr... I'v always been impressed with his concern & intelligence & shocked that his practice was in the small town of Camden Tn for years... apparently he met someone else, left his family, Camden & his practice to start a new life...he no longer has a practice but has continued to do video's for which we should all be grateful for...he is a blessing in the medical field

I usually seasoned them with my homemade green seasoning, lots of garlic and scotch bonnet and let them marinate overnight in the fridge. The next day I just fry them and they're very delicious! Sometimes I make liver and onions too and they're good!
Liver is delicious! I fry lambs liver for a minute each side in olive oil then cook in garlic and cream for another minute so it is still a little bloody. Best fast food you can make!
I had some grilled liver last night, and it was the first time I thoroughly enjoyed it and ate every last bite! It tasted like steak! 10/10 recommend grilling liver
My dad had the left carotid artery 100% blocked, the right side was 85% block and they cleared that one but wouldn't touch the left. After eating a low carb diet for 3 years the left is now 85 % blocked. And he still eats bread and things I would never eat. His lowest A1c in 3 yrs has been 5.9. It was much higher. His doc told him to keep doing what he was doing.
Has he considered serrapeptase enzyme? On empty stomach it acts like a chemical roto-rooter and clears all sorts of blockages. Check the research. I just started taking it to destroy random spike protein emissions from latent zombies, but as a side effect it lowered my blood pressure 19/18 points systolic/diastolic...in just over a week. If it can do that, imagine what else it can do.
My A1C score was in the mid sixes before I changed my life style to a low carb diet. Over the last two years the lowest has been 4.7% and the highest was 5.2%. The last one was 5%. I am in my late sixties. My cardiologist did a heart catheterization on me in Jan. There was no blockage at all. He told me that he would not say zero artery plaque but it was at or below the lowest he could detect. I have been hypertense since my teen years( much better now) and on the SAD diet for most of my life. I wonder if my arteries have been cleaned out since my life style changed. I do exercise at the gym ( cardo and weight lifting) and hike frequently. So my active life style may be another factor.
From what I've read, A1C can vary between individuals depending on red blood cell turnover. It sounds like the trig/hdl ratio or tyg index or homa-ir are more accurate measures.
This is ALL true, I have familial hyperlipidemia (High LDL Cholesterol), and was pre-diabetic with a A1C of 5.6. I was on metformin for 4 years, and ultimately went on a KETO diet. I recently came off the metformin as my A1C got down to a 4.9, and 8 weeks being off it, the A1C is still at 4.9. So one medication off my list. 2 years ago I was put on statin medications, and ultimately had to come off them due to developing rhabdomyolysis. Given I still had high LDL cholesterol, they attempted to put me on Praluent (injectable medication for high cholesterol). Insurance refused it, so the cardiologist ordered the calcium score and scan of my heart and arteries. I just got back my score of 0! I have no buildup and no calcium score. He said the LDL, while high, did not need to be treated at this time, and to control it with exercise and diet. I honestly believe, when I was pre-diabetic, I had some minor buildup because I did have some mild chest pain time to time. The KETO diet and low-carb lifestyle has healed me completely. Now if I can get off these thyroid meds, I can be pill free again.

Dr. said it was up, but it was "okay", but it was 6.7 I think. That is NOT okay at all, especially since I had a "minor" stroke from plaque a few years ago. My neighbor is a retired physicians assistant. The topic of A1C came up one time and he told me in his office they pretty much ignored anything under 7.0. I just about fell over.
Andrew, an Australian chap from the "Spudfit" channel here on youtube was in very poor health as well as overweight. He went on a potatoes ONLY (vegan) diet for one whole year and reported his blood test results including HbA1c's of 4.9 and 5.1. He also lost a lot of weight and regained his fitness and vitality. Conclusions to draw? 1) Maybe there is more than one way to skin a cat? 2) Maybe combining fat and carbs is the source of the metabolic problems? 3) Maybe we shouldn't be too confident that we've got it all figured out. Interesting. I'm in Canada and an A1C of 6 is considered prediabetic and not okay by the doctors I've dealt with. My A1C is 5.0 now but it was up to 6.0 about 3 years ago. That was during my carb heavy vegetarian phase, even though I wasn't overweight at that point. Now I know better, thanks to my niece who introduced me to Keto and Dr. Berry. Now to see if I can get it lower...
It’s great to see what others have done with their A1C. I recently home tested after a 6 weeks on ketovore. Did not get a baseline at the start because I didn’t know I could home test but I did feel like death warmed over. 😅 Now I’m at 5.4 and feeling much better and lost 33 lbs.
My cardiologist freaked out when I revealed to him that I'm following the carnivore diet. He told me I was courting heart disease and that he didn't want to be my doctor if I didn't heed his warning.

After becoming carnivore for 2 years , my A1C is now 5.9 and by good i do not understand . Also my cardiologist ordered an angiogram because my high cholesterol .and some signs that i have blockage in my arteries . I do not understand any of this anymore because I eat 0 carbs from plants other than carbs in meat or organs . No coffee , no sweeteners . Dome cheese from time to time .
How's your ALT? That's another one where most doctors are just fine with the level being anywhere in the normal range, or even slightly elevated. When mine was elevated I had two docs tell me "it's nothing to be concerned about - probably just little bit of fat in your liver". BTW: for a woman a healthy ALT is less than 25.
I went carnivore in Feb 2024 with an HbA1c result of 56 mmol/L (7.3%) 3 months later in May 2024 my HbA1c result was 25 mmol/L (4.4%) Started carnivore to cure my fatty liver, inadvertently completely reversed my T2 diabetes! Staying on carnivore to lose all the rest of my extra weight and to hopefully reverse any plaque build up that I'm sure I've developed over the years.
Very interesting. All of this fits to someone I know who has had stents deployed. The subject embraced the low-fat lifestyle but thought nothing of the impact of sugar and carbs. It all fits. Nice presentation, Doc.
I just got my a1c results, they said it was fine, but I remembered your past videos, so I wanted to double check your perspective on it since i wasnt about to trust them or google on this lol Thankfully Im 4.8! Very lucky, must be partially genetic as i have a history of high sugar and i currently smoke. I'd bet me cutting down on sugar and wheat has helped it get low. Interesting. Mine on carbs was 5.6. Despite a healthy lifestyle I still developed atherosclerosis. It was 5.1 at last test. I think I can get it to 5 or below.
I have gotten my A1C from 11.1 to 6. This is while still on Metformin 2, 500mg a day. I’m not satisfied. I want to get my diabetes down enough to get off medication. My diet is under control, but I know I need to exercise a lot more. I’m thinking I could probably get it down to 5.5 with daily exercise. I’m with you, the number needs to go lower and stay lower for a period of time before you are not classed as a diabetic. I do IF 17/7 six days a week with no problem. I mostly eat nuts , seeds, fruit and veggies. I have started eating meat more for growth of muscles. I do eat fish and shrimp. My main concern is getting enough stamina to exercise sufficiently. I appreciate your advice and am working to get my numbers as low as they can go. Thanks
Many doctors do not like the test for some reason (probably prefer stints after the fact?!?). However I would drive the 2 hours as the test is literally 15 minutes. You might need a referral from your doc in some states (not sure on that).

T2DM, 66 yo, 30 years type 2, 1 year ago was out of control, a1c was 14. Very clean keto, worked up to it, 07/01/2022 a1c was 6.3. Endocrinologist says that is too low for me, screw him, low 5's here I come
This is an interesting study, correlating A1c to coronary calcium scores. I've been aware that A1c correlated to actual events, even in non-diabetic ranges, for some time, but this is a much more specific study. Thank you for sharing this. I am very excited that you and others in clinical practice have seen reduction of blockages in ex-diabetics, but really wish someone was publishing about this! I was briefly interested in fenofibrates, thinking that the removal of cholesterol from HDL particles would allow them to scavenge more from the arteries, but several cardiologists told me they had not seen reduction in blockages in clinical practice. I got a stent last December, which I am uncertain was really necessary; if I'd known ex-diabetics reduce their arterscelrosis, I might have chosen to watch and wait rather than get the stent. I'm making decisions without enough data. I am frustrated about what improvements/risks to expect as an ex-diabetic. Certainly, my health is much improved vs. when I was diabetic and my quality of life has improved tremendously; I know that for certain. But I do not expect that I am in the same position as someone who wasn't diabetic for 30+ years, on multiple daily injections of 12+ of those years. I've accrued much damage from both hyperglycemia and hypersulinemia for decades, and while I expect much healing via autophagy, I don't believe everything can be fixed. And there is extremely little research about ex-diabetics out there to indicate what to expect. I can extrapolate some guesses about health risk, e.g. yeast infections risk is lower simply because I'm a poorer culture medium. But just general information never includes us; we are not a group in research studies. For example, I know that covid risk is much worse for diabetics than non-diabetics, and assume ex-diabetics may be somewhere in between, but can't really guess where. I share my medical history with any health care professional I interact with, so they don't just look at my recent labwork and assume I'm non-diabetic, but I doubt any of them know themselves which risks apply to me as an ex-diabetic. I spend much of my time advising diabetics; it's become my passion. In fact, I took my first steps to setting up a nonprofit last week dedicated to eradicating diabetes. I have chosen this as my life's work. But I'm frustrated that the basis of most of my advice is just my own experience; I don't like "data" that just comes from an n=1 experiment. I need to know much more about ex-diabetics rather than feeling I'm trail-blazing all the time.
For what it's worth, I will be praying for the success of your endeavor, and others like it. The real trouble is acquiring funding for the research, because there isn't an easy, direct line from advising lifestyle changes to making big profits, so venture capitalists etc want none of it. And most in the non-profit world don't have the vision for some so big and slow. They want to hand out x number of free glucometers to poor diabetics now -- not spend 10 years doing longitudinal studies to change the medical paradigm, change cultural norms about food, and THEN drastically reduce the incidence of lifestyle-based chronic illness. Perhaps you could crowd fund it, á la Vasalgel. Crowd funding medical research definitely isn't the norm, but it appears that it can be done. The people behind that non-profit (The Parsemus Foundation) seem pretty legit. Perhaps they might be willing to advise you a little if you hit them up to pick their brains about the ins and out of crowd funding medical research.
Also, there may be others who can contribute data to your research. There are doctors like Dr. Berry, Dr. Sten Ekburg, another doctor whose name escapes me who runs a clinic for diabetics and helps them reverse their diabetes by defying the standard advice and telling them to eat low carb -- she has a TED talk (or TEDX?) about it. Perhaps once your foundation is set up, and you can introduce yourself using your official title and org name and website, you could reach out to some of these doctors about designing and enrolling patients in your studies. 3 months ago my A1C was 10.7, last week it was 5.2 after keto and meds. of course the Dr attributes a lot of it to the drugs. He had wanted to put me on insulin after the 10.7 reading and i said no. Take charge of your health don't let a Dr. decide for you.
The reason they say HBAIC of 6.x is ok is that this will keep you a customer of the medical/big pharma industrial complex. It is all about the health of the their pocketbooks, pun intended.
Watch TV for a couple hours. You'll see commercials for several T2D treatment but none of the commercials tell you to go Carnivore. Pharma has to keep you on the meds.
I don’t think that individual endocrinologists want their patients to be enslaved in that way. It’s just that they’re in love with carbohydrates and are certain that everyone needs 100 grams of carbohydrates a day or SOMETHING HORRIBLE WILL HAPPEN. When first I tried low-carb eating my then-endocrinologist, board-certified, said that my 50 grams of carbohydrates was DANGEROUS and my brain would shut down. Why he’d never heard of gluconeogenesis I didn’t ask him, but that was 2012 and I have never seen him again.
They think it prevents hypoglycemia, and they think they risk being sued if even one careless person died of low blood sugar and sued. Problem is, roller coaster blood sugars from a high carb diet will worsen risk for hard fast drops into Hypoglycemia and becoming unconscious.
A1c was 11.9. Eight weeks ago started carnivore by watching Dr. Barry videos. I go get my A1c checked on 18 June but my glucose has fallen from 460 to 105

Your assertion that Dr. Berry is a 'real' doctor is right on. Doctor comes from the Latin word for "teacher" Prior to the Rockefellers taking over medicine in 1910 the job of a doctor was very much to "educate". Once Rockefeller got control (largely through "philanthropy") the model changed from education to medication. It was very convenient, of course, that he was set up to profit from this new approach by way of his investments in oil and drug companies. "Medication vs Education"
Very interesting information. I’m a physician my self in the area of Miami Florida and agree with your approach of treatment in obesity and diabetes. I am also approaching a treatment plan of talking to all my patients about the importance of low carb diet and insulin effects, but the main limitation I am getting is to brake the cultural way of eating mainly in the latino community use to eat a lot of rice, beans, bread, tropical fruits an starchy vegetables. Any clues to help convincing these patients to change the diet?

Just tested today and my a1c is 5.5, after about 5 years from starting low carb and keto + IF. Before starting keto, I had a fatty liver, and today my liver is no longer fatty. Still working on getting my a1c lower.
Type 1 Diabetes for 3 years now. Keto/carnivore/ OMAD since day one of the diagnosis. Average A1c for the last 2,5 years 5,2. Still neither meds nor insulinshots requirred.
I had my HbA1c tested for the first time this week. I was four months into keto and IF and I was curious so went to Quest. It came back as 4.7, which seems great. A year ago, I did not have an HbA1c test, only fasting glucose, but it was a bit high at 114. I am surprised my doc didn't send me back for an A1c, but didn't know at the time to ask about it. There is a conversion chart for "estimated Average Glucose" to A1c where 114 = 5.6, but "fasting glucose" would be lower than eAG, right ? So should I assume my A1c a year ago was higher than 5.6 based on the fasting glucose number being 114 at that time ? I had lots of signs of high blood sugar, like cold feet, high BP, joint pain, tachycardia, skin tags, etc. before keto, all of which are reduced or normal now.
What about the other doctors that say studies show veggies and fruits help with hba1c? Just finished watching a video with dr. Mike and dr. Belardo and dr. Gundry in a round table
I eat a low carb diet. I am 61 years old with family history of heart disease. I have high cholesterol. My doctor wanted to put me on 80 mg of Lipitor. I Said no I wanted a heart CT. She said it wasn’t a good test and that she had never ordered one before. I had it and I scored zero. I had a cardiology consult. The cardiology PA said I didn’t need a statin since I scored zero. There is a huge medical disconnect here....

True.....and, to their defense, it's what they're taught. WE will have ti educate them by example! Thankfully, my cardiologist has no issues with my diet and the results show. Off BP meds.....scorded a zero on my CAC....lost 90 lbs. Been Keto for 9+ years and am now fully Carnivore. Still suffering from inflammation so I wanted to try Dr. Berry's advice of 3 months Carnivore to see what improvements there are.
SURPRISINGLY, lifting weights for almost a month has shown almost same results as a full year of lifting weights on Keto! Even wife has noticed my muscle growth but commented on how "hard" they are. I'm astonished. 50, almost 51, BTW.

I believe most physicians refuse to listen because they have ceased seeking knowledge. You are a fantastic physician because you never closed your eyes in your search for the truth. You sir are a blessing to humanity.
It is very difficult to accept you worked so hard and spent so much money to learn crap.
You fail to see who doctors really are. Medical schools want all A students, not independent thinkers. This means that the kids who make it thru their system are the best little regiritators who have parents who constantly check all their homework, help them study, really want their kids in what to some is high status occupations, and are willing to spend a fortune to support their kid thru years and years of a dubious training. Nowhere in this system is room for kids who question anything. Doctors are the hardest working compliers. You don't actually figure in the plan.
Right before the holidays, I started having blurred near vision with my glasses all of a sudden. Eye doctor visit showed everything fine, but doc told be to check my blood sugar at my GP visit. Scheduled a visit in January and my A1c came back as 13.7 (I have a copy of the labs). Was put on insulin immediately. I started researching what Dr. Berry and Dr. Fung were saying about it being an insulin problem vs. a blood sugar problem. Changed my diet: low carb + fasting. My follow up A1c in April was 5.1 (have a copy of those labs as well). No more vision issues. I understand now that the vision issue was from high glucose levels pulling water into the lens. If I had listened to my GP, I'd still be on insulin (I got to stop taking it w/in 2 weeks) and probably have gained 10-15 lbs. I've went from a jacket size of 46 to a 42 and I can wear size 34 waist pants (down from 38's). I can't stress just how valuable a service people like Dr. Berry are providing.

Years ago my doc tried to suggest statins to me when I was a few months pre keto. Never has said anything else about it in over 3.5 years since I began keto. HE HAS HOWEVER APPROVED AND I RECEIVED MY LOOSE SKIN SURGERY IN JANUARY 2021!! Woot!

(You want to get glucose with the insulin so you can compute HOMA-IR)
You can look up the formula for computing HOMA-IR. I think it's: HOMA-IR = (Insulin * Glucose) / 405
Ben Bikman can tell you how to interpret it. I think it's something like this:
HOMA-IR:
1.0 or less is ideal (very good insulin sensitivity)
1.1 to 2.0 is okay
2.1 to 3.0 definitely not good
Over 3.0 Red Alert (severe insulin resistance)
Pulling these from memory, so use with caution. Better if you get exact ranges from Dr. Bikman.
Where I live, it is possible to to am A1C via a finger prick test at the pharmacy for just a few dollars. Might be worth going to some of the bigger ones and asking :-)
You can also order your own labs (insurance will not pay but A1C is pretty cheap.
I'm a diabetic and my last A1c was 5.2. My doctor is very excited. I've been off Glipizide for a month and my afternoon glucose reading was 88. I eat mostly protein and healthy fats along with a small serving (3 times a week) of vegetables such as sauerkraut, asparagus, spinach, or artichoke hearts. I've been low-carb for several years, the last couple of which I was eating
Do not eat spinach. Super high in oxalates which destroy your gut.
At age 76 my A1C is 5.0 (Highest ever was 6.4 4 years ago)....over the last 3 years my highest was 5.2...I don't do Keto/Carnivore, but I do low carb and intermittent fast at 20/4..Following Dr Berry and Dr Berg has changed my life...no health issues and very active

This is the cause of near every human ailment.... I had so much pain and so many issues before dropping my carbs and upping my omega 3/6ratio. I'm not keto per say as my body seems to really like some carbs but I choose them wisely, never eat them standalone and never more than 15% of my daily calories.

Yes, I've been saying this, but no one wants to hear it, especially the medical community. They all want to blame fat and red meat as the enemy.
I learned this on my own working as an RN in the cardiac ICU, 20 years ago.
Patients coming in with repeat heart attacks, on statins for years with cholesterol under 150, low blood pressure on meds, most were diabetics.
Many were repeat offenders, starting with stent placement and then progressing to bypass surgery and/or valve replacements. There were few that weren't diabetics.
I figured it out because statins were not preventing repeat heart attacks, as we have been told, and low cholesterol was not helpful either. It's always been the the years of high glucose levels destroying the vascular system that is to blame, from consuming high carb and sugar on the SAD diet. Smoking tobacco and abusing alcohol doesn't help.

I’m a 57 years old started seeing a new doctor last month. I haven’t been to a doctor in 4 years. I started a low carb almost zero sugar way of eating. Fast 18 hours a day sometimes do a 24, 48, and occasionally a 72 hour fast. I lost 70 pounds and have stayed in that range over two years. Great energy haven’t felt better. So my new doctor did bloodwork said my liver kidneys everything great, except I have dangerously high cholesterol. So he told me to avoid the meat butter and all the things that have helped me lose the weight and make me feel so much better. And of course per scribed a cholesterol medication. Well I’ve decided to stick to what’s made me feel better. Doctors work with pharmaceuticals to make the money and push pills.
Is there any truth that taking Metamucil helps lower cholesterol?? I did that for awhile. It helped. C numbers went down. Doc said Metamucil absorbs the C and gets pooped out before the body absorbs the C.
That's why it is called a practice.
The ask then is; "What is my Cholesterol/Triglyceride ratio? If it's less than 1.5, your chance of heart attack and/or stroke is greatly reduced. Which is the reason for prescribing the med.

A1C is in normal range at 6 but my Dr told me to immediately change my diet n get that number lower regardless. When I went in for something else a month later, she was delighted I lost over twenty pounds n eagerly listened to what I had done with my diet. I'm blessed to have her, she's supportive of this lifestyle and always suggests diet intervention first regarding allergies and diabetes.
In short, the correlation between HbA1c and arterial plaquing is far greater than the amount of cholesterol one has in relation to arterial plaquing. When it comes to cardiovascular disease it is NOT about the cholesterol. Its about the damage that the arterial walls incur as a result of fluctuations in blood sugar, which weaponizes cholesterol and turns it from a benign and beneficial thing, to a plaquing agent. Focusing on cholesterol, instead of blood glucose, is like focusing on the oxygen in the air instead of the matches and gasoline when investigating an arson. Yes, oxygen (i.e. cholesterol) is present at the scene of the crime, because the fire (i.e. the plaquing) could not exist without it. However, what causes oxygen to fuel the fire are the matches and gasoline (i.e. high blood sugar).
sugar rich blood scores the intima and this is where the calcium lodges and builds up. The cholesterol comes later.
The "goal" is 6.5 because if everyone got it down to 4.8 (or lower) they would be out of business 🤔
I had a coronary event at age 38 in December 2019. My weight was 273lbs and when I look at my charts, my lipid panel at the time was terrible. My HDL was 35, LDL 148, Triglycerides 181, VLDL 36, and Hemo A1c 5.2. Dr. Berry is right...A1c is only one part of the equation.
I began the keto lifestyle with fasting in March 2020. I then had a new lipid panel done in December 2020. HDL went to 43, LDL to 75, Triglycerides 34 and VLDL 7 (I didnt have an A1c done at that time). At that time, I weighed in at 188lbs. I just had a new lipid panel done in June 2021 with A1c as well. HDL is now 53, LDL 71, Triglycerides 26, VLDL 5 and A1c is 4.5. I'm still waiting on my advanced lipid panel to break down the different LDL numbers.
I started out the typical keto, trying to find replacements for my favorite foods like cheescake, rice, bread, etc. Lost like 40lbs from March to September 2020. Then decided to go full carnivore October, and that's when I lost a lot of weight! But after Thanksgiving, I've been following a very strict low carb Mediterranean Keto diet with lots of salmon, sardines, oysters, 100% grass fed beef, lamb, pastured pork, pastured eggs, organs, leafy greens, olives, and some nuts like Brazil nut, pecans and macadamias. Additionally, I do OMAD most days with a few 2MADs peppered in here and there to keep the body guessing. I fill my meals with protein, fat and some fiber to keep me satiated. I finally understand the difference between hunger and cravings. At this moment, I am 168lbs.
My doctors have finally agreed to reduce my statins. They've also taken me off Plavix and the blood pressure meds, and cut my beta blockers in half.
This lifestyle is sustainable, and it works. Dr. Berry, Dr. Fung, Maria Emmerich among others have really opened my eyes to how the body really works. Thank you, Dr. Berry!

I just wanted to start by saying i also live in TN . I started ketovore/carnivore and my A1C has went down from over 11.5 to 8! Still working towards getting it lower. I have watched everything i can from you and your wife Neisha. Thank you all for opening my eyes to what i need to be doing.

I lost 85 pounds, dropped my A1C to 5.5 (so far), shed my arthritis, and feel years younger. I've struggled with health issues for years with the help of my doctor. By going carnivore last November, I've witnessed an astounding change in my overall health (which just keeps improving day after day). I asked my doctor why he didn't give me that advice. He said that they don't teach those things in med school. I find myself debating my health care with him. He plays the averages on hundreds of patients. I play the details on myself. Averages just aren't good enough. My A1C is gradually dropping and I, like you, think that there is no such thing as good enough. Under 5.7? Better, but why stop trying? Even if I get to better than average, that's not good enough!
I just checked my last bloodwork and in 2019 it was 4.8%. At the time I was on Keto with 20g carbs no alcohol and 46 years old.

In January 2024 my A1c was 13.9. I was shocked and determined. Two months later I got it to 7.4. Still high but hard work pays off. Keto!
That sounds realistic. I never believe any of the people who say they had an A1C of over 13 and within 3 months brought it down to 5. That’s BS!!

You always make it real, and your sense of pragmatism has always helped me guard myself from falling in the trap of dogmatism as I pursue my keto/IF journey. I live in West Africa, not in the US at this point in time. You made it possible for me to hang in tight and not be discouraged simply because I can’t find this or that here. I do with what I can find where I am. In July of 2020 I had an A1C of 9.7, I made the decision to get my health under control. I have now lost 102lbs and have an A1C of 4.9 when i did my last blood/urine tests. I did it by eating low carb and cutting out all the junk, so it can be done. I feel the best I've felt in three decades, I'm 51 and never going back to that life. Dr. Berry and many others I have taken advice and guidance from on my journey to get healthier. I thank them all.

My A1c is 6.3, and my dr told me I am diabetic, and will always be diabetic, just a "controlled diabetic." Time for a new dr???

Diabetes is a progressive disease, but it can be put into remission more than once. Mine is currently 6.0; 2 years ago it was 7.6. I kept this from my doctor until I could get myself under control.

My A1c has been fairly consistant at between 6 and 7 for 10 years. Ive been type 2 for 17 yrs. My cardiologist was astounded that I have next to no plaque and my arteries for my age (68) are excellant even though my cholesterol is a little on the high side. I have no other side issues related to diabetes. Ive just started Keto and am going to transition to Carnivore WOE. 😊

Same here. Started keto 28 months ago and ketovore now. Sometimes go full carnivore for a while. My fasting glucose was high before that, but never had an A1c. However I was also 305 lbs about 3 years ago and 290 when I started keto. Last fall my A1c was 5.0 at my bi-annual physical and I'm at about 185 lbs. now. Coronary artery scan score was zero 3 months ago.

What an ethical and decent physician Dr. Berry is. My primary care is a PA, and I barely get a word of advice from him. Dr. Berry has been so much help for me, as I have lowered my a1c markedly, and my weight is down to what it was 40 years ago. I also feel healthier. Some bodily pain that comes with age has diminished as well. This man is a life saver!

I got the kit and decided to check my A1C, since my bloodwork in September never included it, nor did any doctor who took my bloodwork ever test it. I’m glad with the result at 4.8. I eat a Keto/Carnivore lifestyle thanks to you Dr. Berry! I just checked my husband’s and his results were 6.0. He’s not as strict on his way of eating, but maybe he will start working on it now. I will be showing the kit to my class tomorrow and letting them know my results. I love you for what you are doing. I struggle with people who don’t want to get healthy, but if I reach one person it’s worth what I’m doing. I showed both your RUclips videos on A1C last Thursday to my group and planning on doing it again tomorrow night. Pray people will open their eyes and ears. Had a cardiologist tell his patient, a man coming to my seminar that red meat will kill him. He’s believing his doctor and now will not come back. I sent his wife your video of how restrictive carnivore was and told her you eat red meat everyday. I also was given a Cardiac diet that this man’s doctor gave him. I wrote down the food I would have ate on this very diet they suggested. Carbs for the day in the first scenario was 377 the second scenario 287. I could not believe this man will go back to eating this very way. Sad for sure.

On April 15, my A1c was 10.7 and my blood sugar was 268… on April 16 I went fully keto with as low a daily carb count as possible… on July 16 I go back to the doctor for a new test.
I dropped 22 pounds so far.
For the new A1C, have to wait three months from the last one!

@@njsongwriter I am a cancer survivor and will be getting a screening on June 30, so by scheduling my next appointment on July 16 I give the doc time to review my screening before I sit down with him again. My thoughts are to get a full blood panel done at my oncology clinic, and have the new results for the appointment to maximize the quality of my visit.

The longer I do Keto to reverse T2D the more clear it is to me that I need to eat basically carnivore or at least Ketovore to get my A1c down as low as possible. Currently 6.1 and that's after 3 months of quite a bit of almond flour .......in cakes etc. Working on it daily.
I came to the same realization, ditching all the almond flour, ketofied foods and snacks for my long-term survival. I see the numbers drop drastically the closer I get to sticking with a full carnivore way of eating. Dr. Berry speaks volumes of truth!

I used ceylon cinnamon before each meal and ACV to bring down my glucose. Along with Keto. I no longer use them but they did help.

@@YeshuaKingMessiah It is not easy... Because it is powder and it does not dissolve very well... Ceylon cinnamon does have less taste though. I coughed quite a few times. But I was using a 1/3 of a teaspoon per meal.
My wife's score was 5.9 and her doctor said it's fine. I told here she is pre-diabetic but she is still eating sugar and gluten snacks, lots of carbs, and generally is on the road to full blown D2. My A1c was 5.3 and I am a bit worried, however now more than a year of keto and I bet my A1c is much lower. I will have it tested soon to fine out. I am so glad I found Keto in time or my A1c might be getting dangerously high too. I have never had a CAC test but I will be getting one soon, wow that is a bit stressful thinking about...

try some fresh chicken liver. look for organic and cage free chicken. I did one time and I feel like my eyes got some more power after the chicken liver meal. But it came back to normal after a week.
I do realize that peppers are in the nightshade family, however lectins don’t affect everyone the same, not to mention when peppers are cooked the lectins are weakened. Thanks anyway.
I started Keto and it took 2.5 weeks to get my glucose from 186 to 86. At the 2.5 month mark my A1C was at 5.1 down from 8.6. My doctor was excited to say the least. I lost 60 lbs in 12 weeks and a year later it is still off. Now doing Ketovore and IF. Goal is to get % body fat to 16%
My AIC was 4.1 a few weeks ago. Also lowered my triglycerides from 468 down to 164! Cholesterol was 218 and my NP wanted to put me on meds. I politely declined.
Triglycerides of 164 is still too high. It should be under 100. Have you considered getting an HOMA-IR test to determine your level of insulin resistance?

I usually seasoned them with my homemade green seasoning, lots of garlic and scotch bonnet and let them marinate overnight in the fridge. The next day I just fry them and they're very delicious! Sometimes I make liver and onions too and they're good!
Liver is delicious! I fry lambs liver for a minute each side in olive oil then cook in garlic and cream for another minute so it is still a little bloody. Best fast food you can make!
I had some grilled liver last night, and it was the first time I thoroughly enjoyed it and ate every last bite! It tasted like steak! 10/10 recommend grilling liver
My dad had the left carotid artery 100% blocked, the right side was 85% block and they cleared that one but wouldn't touch the left. After eating a low carb diet for 3 years the left is now 85 % blocked. And he still eats bread and things I would never eat. His lowest A1c in 3 yrs has been 5.9. It was much higher. His doc told him to keep doing what he was doing.
Just imagine the healing if he cut things like bread...
Has he considered serrapeptase enzyme? On empty stomach it acts like a chemical roto-rooter and clears all sorts of blockages. Check the research. I just started taking it to destroy random spike protein emissions from latent zombies, but as a side effect it lowered my blood pressure 19/18 points systolic/diastolic...in just over a week. If it can do that, imagine what else it can do.
My A1C score was in the mid sixes before I changed my life style to a low carb diet. Over the last two years the lowest has been 4.7% and the highest was 5.2%. The last one was 5%. I am in my late sixties. My cardiologist did a heart catheterization on me in Jan. There was no blockage at all. He told me that he would not say zero artery plaque but it was at or below the lowest he could detect. I have been hypertense since my teen years( much better now) and on the SAD diet for most of my life. I wonder if my arteries have been cleaned out since my life style changed. I do exercise at the gym ( cardo and weight lifting) and hike frequently. So my active life style may be another factor.
From what I've read, A1C can vary between individuals depending on red blood cell turnover. It sounds like the trig/hdl ratio or tyg index or homa-ir are more accurate measures.
This is ALL true, I have familial hyperlipidemia (High LDL Cholesterol), and was pre-diabetic with a A1C of 5.6. I was on metformin for 4 years, and ultimately went on a KETO diet. I recently came off the metformin as my A1C got down to a 4.9, and 8 weeks being off it, the A1C is still at 4.9. So one medication off my list. 2 years ago I was put on statin medications, and ultimately had to come off them due to developing rhabdomyolysis. Given I still had high LDL cholesterol, they attempted to put me on Praluent (injectable medication for high cholesterol). Insurance refused it, so the cardiologist ordered the calcium score and scan of my heart and arteries. I just got back my score of 0! I have no buildup and no calcium score. He said the LDL, while high, did not need to be treated at this time, and to control it with exercise and diet. I honestly believe, when I was pre-diabetic, I had some minor buildup because I did have some mild chest pain time to time. The KETO diet and low-carb lifestyle has healed me completely. Now if I can get off these thyroid meds, I can be pill free again.

Dr. said it was up, but it was "okay", but it was 6.7 I think. That is NOT okay at all, especially since I had a "minor" stroke from plaque a few years ago. My neighbor is a retired physicians assistant. The topic of A1C came up one time and he told me in his office they pretty much ignored anything under 7.0. I just about fell over.

Andrew, an Australian chap from the "Spudfit" channel here on youtube was in very poor health as well as overweight. He went on a potatoes ONLY (vegan) diet for one whole year and reported his blood test results including HbA1c's of 4.9 and 5.1. He also lost a lot of weight and regained his fitness and vitality. Conclusions to draw? 1) Maybe there is more than one way to skin a cat? 2) Maybe combining fat and carbs is the source of the metabolic problems? 3) Maybe we shouldn't be too confident that we've got it all figured out. Interesting. I'm in Canada and an A1C of 6 is considered prediabetic and not okay by the doctors I've dealt with. My A1C is 5.0 now but it was up to 6.0 about 3 years ago. That was during my carb heavy vegetarian phase, even though I wasn't overweight at that point. Now I know better, thanks to my niece who introduced me to Keto and Dr. Berry. Now to see if I can get it lower...
It’s great to see what others have done with their A1C. I recently home tested after a 6 weeks on ketovore. Did not get a baseline at the start because I didn’t know I could home test but I did feel like death warmed over. 😅 Now I’m at 5.4 and feeling much better and lost 33 lbs.
My cardiologist freaked out when I revealed to him that I'm following the carnivore diet. He told me I was courting heart disease and that he didn't want to be my doctor if I didn't heed his warning.

I was keto and my blood tests were good . After becoming carnivore for 2 years , my A1C is now 5.9 and by good i do not understand . Also my cardiologist ordered an angiogram because my high cholesterol .and some signs that i have blockage in my arteries .
I do not understand any of this anymore because I eat 0 carbs from plants other than carbs in meat or organs . No coffee , no sweeteners . Dome cheese from time to time .
2019 CAC was 836 on Keto for 3 years CAC still very high but down to 712. A1C from 6 to 4.5

That's another one where most doctors are just fine with the level being anywhere in the normal range, or even slightly elevated. When mine was elevated I had two docs tell me "it's nothing to be concerned about - probably just little bit of fat in your liver".
BTW: for a woman a healthy ALT is less than 25.

I went carnivore in Feb 2024 with an HbA1c result of 56 mmol/L (7.3%)
3 months later in May 2024 my HbA1c result was 25 mmol/L (4.4%)
Started carnivore to cure my fatty liver, inadvertently completely reversed my T2 diabetes!
Staying on carnivore to lose all the rest of my extra weight and to hopefully reverse any plaque build up that I'm sure I've developed over the years.

I just got my a1c results, they said it was fine, but I remembered your past videos, so I wanted to double check your perspective on it since i wasnt about to trust them or google on this lol Thankfully Im 4.8! Interesting. Mine on carbs was 5.6. Despite a healthy lifestyle I still developed atherosclerosis. It was 5.1 at last test. I think I can get it to 5 or below.
I have gotten my A1C from 11.1 to 6. This is while still on Metformin 2, 500mg a day. I’m not satisfied. I want to get my diabetes down enough to get off medication. My diet is under control, but I know I need to exercise a lot more. I’m thinking I could probably get it down to 5.5 with daily exercise. I’m with you, the number needs to go lower and stay lower for a period of time before you are not classed as a diabetic. I do IF 17/7 six days a week with no problem. I mostly eat nuts , seeds, fruit and veggies. I have started eating meat more for growth of muscles. I do eat fish and shrimp. My main concern is getting enough stamina to exercise sufficiently. I appreciate your advice and am working to get my numbers as low as they can go. Thanks

Many doctors do not like the test for some reason (probably prefer stints after the fact?!?). However I would drive the 2 hours as the test is literally 15 minutes. You might need a referral from your doc in some states (not sure on that).

This is an interesting study, correlating A1c to coronary calcium scores. I've been aware that A1c correlated to actual events, even in non-diabetic ranges, for some time, but this is a much more specific study. Thank you for sharing this.
I am very excited that you and others in clinical practice have seen reduction of blockages in ex-diabetics, but really wish someone was publishing about this! I was briefly interested in fenofibrates, thinking that the removal of cholesterol from HDL particles would allow them to scavenge more from the arteries, but several cardiologists told me they had not seen reduction in blockages in clinical practice. I got a stent last December, which I am uncertain was really necessary; if I'd known ex-diabetics reduce their arterscelrosis, I might have chosen to watch and wait rather than get the stent.
I'm making decisions without enough data. I am frustrated about what improvements/risks to expect as an ex-diabetic. Certainly, my health is much improved vs. when I was diabetic and my quality of life has improved tremendously; I know that for certain.
But I do not expect that I am in the same position as someone who wasn't diabetic for 30+ years, on multiple daily injections of 12+ of those years. I've accrued much damage from both hyperglycemia and hypersulinemia for decades, and while I expect much healing via autophagy, I don't believe everything can be fixed. And there is extremely little research about ex-diabetics out there to indicate what to expect.
I can extrapolate some guesses about health risk, e.g. yeast infections risk is lower simply because I'm a poorer culture medium.
But just general information never includes us; we are not a group in research studies.
For example, I know that covid risk is much worse for diabetics than non-diabetics, and assume ex-diabetics may be somewhere in between, but can't really guess where.
I share my medical history with any health care professional I interact with, so they don't just look at my recent labwork and assume I'm non-diabetic, but I doubt any of them know themselves which risks apply to me as an ex-diabetic.
I spend much of my time advising diabetics; it's become my passion. In fact, I took my first steps to setting up a nonprofit last week dedicated to eradicating diabetes. I have chosen this as my life's work.
But I'm frustrated that the basis of most of my advice is just my own experience; I don't like "data" that just comes from an n=1 experiment. I need to know much more about ex-diabetics rather than feeling I'm trail-blazing all the time.
For what it's worth, I will be praying for the success of your endeavor, and others like it. The real trouble is acquiring funding for the research, because there isn't an easy, direct line from advising lifestyle changes to making big profits, so venture capitalists etc want none of it. And most in the non-profit world don't have the vision for some so big and slow. They want to hand out x number of free glucometers to poor diabetics now -- not spend 10 years doing longitudinal studies to change the medical paradigm, change cultural norms about food, and THEN drastically reduce the incidence of lifestyle-based chronic illness. Perhaps you could crowd fund it, á la Vasalgel. Crowd funding medical research definitely isn't the norm, but it appears that it can be done. The people behind that non-profit (The Parsemus Foundation) seem pretty legit. Perhaps they might be willing to advise you a little if you hit them up to pick their brains about the ins and out of crowd funding medical research.
Also, there may be others who can contribute data to your research. There are doctors like Dr. Berry, Dr. Sten Ekburg, another doctor whose name escapes me who runs a clinic for diabetics and helps them reverse their diabetes by defying the standard advice and telling them to eat low carb -- she has a TED talk (or TEDX?) about it. Perhaps once your foundation is set up, and you can introduce yourself using your official title and org name and website, you could reach out to some of these doctors about designing and enrolling patients in your studies.

3 months ago my A1C was 10.7, last week it was 5.2 after keto and meds. of course the Dr attributes a lot of it to the drugs. He had wanted to put me on insulin after the 10.7 reading and i said no. Take charge of your health don't let a Dr. decide for you.

The reason they say HBAIC of 6.x is ok is that this will keep you a customer of the medical/big pharma industrial complex. It is all about the health of the their pocketbooks, pun intended.

Watch TV for a couple hours. You'll see commercials for several T2D treatment but none of the commercials tell you to go Carnivore. Pharma has to keep you on the meds.
I don’t think that individual endocrinologists want their patients to be enslaved in that way. It’s just that they’re in love with carbohydrates and are certain that everyone needs 100 grams of carbohydrates a day or SOMETHING HORRIBLE WILL HAPPEN. When first I tried low-carb eating my then-endocrinologist, board-certified, said that my 50 grams of carbohydrates was DANGEROUS and my brain would shut down. Why he’d never heard of gluconeogenesis I didn’t ask him, but that was 2012 and I have never seen him again.
They think it prevents hypoglycemia, and they think they risk being sued if even one careless person died of low blood sugar and sued.
Problem is, roller coaster blood sugars from a high carb diet will worsen risk for hard fast drops into Hypoglycemia and becoming unconscious.

At what dose? How much calcium is relocated over what timeframe? Does it work on all humans? Or just rodents? Is it cost/benefit evaluated?

Very interesting information. I’m a physician my self in the area of Miami Florida and agree with your approach of treatment in obesity and diabetes. I am also approaching a treatment plan of talking to all my patients about the importance of low carb diet and insulin effects, but the main limitation I am getting is to brake the cultural way of eating mainly in the latino community use to eat a lot of rice, beans, bread, tropical fruits an starchy vegetables. Any clues to help convincing these patients to change the diet?
You must show them the final results to follow a hight carbo diet ( diabetic, and more severe diseases) with fotos and real cases.

Thank you, Dr Berry. I do have CAD and always had normal a1c and glucose never high. Been keto since 2017. Hoping to keep improving. Working more toward carnivore now. Your son got me calling pork rinds ‘cookies’, which has me loving them more.🥰
Also My last hemoglobin a1c was 4.9. I hope I can bring that down even more.
I’m 6 years post diabetes reversal and my latest A1C was 5.2. It is doable and I can still eat loads of veg and a small amount of berries

Just tested today and my a1c is 5.5, after about 5 years from starting low carb and keto + IF. Before starting keto, I had a fatty liver, and today my liver is no longer fatty. Still working on getting my a1c lower.
My low was 4.5 my average after 4 years is 4.7. Much better that 5.9
Type 1 Diabetes for 3 years now. Keto/carnivore/ OMAD since day one of the diagnosis. Average A1c for the last 2,5 years 5,2. Still neither meds nor insulinshots requirred.

I had my HbA1c tested for the first time this week. I was four months into keto and IF and I was curious so went to Quest. It came back as 4.7, which seems great. A year ago, I did not have an HbA1c test, only fasting glucose, but it was a bit high at 114. I am surprised my doc didn't send me back for an A1c, but didn't know at the time to ask about it.
There is a conversion chart for "estimated Average Glucose" to A1c where 114 = 5.6, but "fasting glucose" would be lower than eAG, right ? So should I assume my A1c a year ago was higher than 5.6 based on the fasting glucose number being 114 at that time ?
I had lots of signs of high blood sugar, like cold feet, high BP, joint pain, tachycardia, skin tags, etc. before keto, all of which are reduced or normal now.
