I hate it when people ask if Wales is in England
Mia Same 😑
Mia me to people like that are thick they should look at a map.
Mia i just say ‘no it‘s in mars‘ 😂
I almost got to the point of telling a stupid Swiss girl to ‘go look at a map’.
Interesting fact....Mount Everest is named after a Welshman 😉🏴👏🏻
Mia Doesn’t bother me
All my family are welsh. I am genuinely gutted that I wasn’t brought up there. Dad speaks welsh, and it upsets me when people say “what’s the point, Welsh people speak English anyway”. You would be considered ignorant to tell a French person their language is irrelevant because most of them speak English too. It’s ridiculous.
Too right
I'll put it in a different sentence then what's the point of learning the worst language ever when not a lot of people can speak welsh in Wales and is not spoken in any other country the fact that there is 2 different welsh languages (north and south) tells a lot.
Gina Evans I want to learn welsh!! You should learn it (spend 30 mins a day studying it and acquiring vocabulary)
Which is exactly why it should be learnt, else the language would die. Death of a language means death of a culture as well.
i have been trying to learn welsh since i was about 4-5 i still dont know it the language is already dead especially in south wales only about 30 people out of 1000 in my school actually can speak welsh but not even full some of my welsh teachers cant speak it fully its gone get over it language doesnt destroy a culture
The welsh flag is the best, IT’S GOT A FRICKEN DRAGON
EXACTLY
It's the best flag uwu
HELL YEAH IT IS
A Welsh heraldic dragon, like the one that appeared on Ivor the Tank Engine, a great show for kids.
Yep, I see that flag every day
"Welsh has no vowels"
We've got two more than you mate.
Also when people don't realise how different the south, west and north are. Especially in terms of accents.
Gota I’m from north wales and I keep being mistaken for English 🤬🤬
So, in the South we said Mamgi and Tadgi but in the North they say Nain and Taid
I’m from mid and I’m mistaken for an english
Wrap Monster I’m from South Wales and btw nain and taid is your nan and granch/grandad/pops or whatever u call your dad / mams dad
I’m in South Wales and I have a little bit of a welsh accent but then some of my friends have a really heavy accent and literally if anyone went to a comprehensive school they’d be so confused
welsh got the best flag in the world and the best anthem
gg true that 😂x
Yes we do, without a doubt haha
That's trueee

Can you tell me ..How Welsh girl, Irish girl , England girl is different. ???
vivek Gusain they are three different countries

But together they are Britain I guess. ..
Don't they inter married with each other...all are white indeed.
vivek Gusain three different countries that each have their own cultures and Wales and Ireland both have different languages native to their countries despite speaking English as well.

You are english ,Scottish or Irish. .or Welsh ???
The sheep shagger thing comes from the English years ago because the punishment for having sex with sheep wasn't as bad as the punishment for stealing them, so if people were caught steeling sheep they would say they were having sex with it instead as they wouldn't be punished as badly, the English originally used this but because there are more sheep in wales it was more commonly used in wales, the Welsh adopted this tactic from the English but you heard it used more in wales because sheep theft happened more in wales, the English were just too dumb to catch on.
Cymru am byth! I'm not Welsh, but I lived there for a few months two years ago as an exchange student in Bangor University and I'm so in loved with this country and its people. I'll definitely come back. Wales is the best country in the entire world.
Greetings from Chile.
Hola! I'm Brazilian, I'm trying to improve my Spanish, but I'd also like to learn other languages besides English and Spanish. How was it in Wales? I would love to visit it :)

I'm Welsh, but my parents are English. Everyone's really surprised when I tell them that I'm Welsh, because I have a 'posh' English accent. Also, one of my friends actually can drive a tractor, his parents own a farm 😂😂😂
Well technically if you didn't grow up in Wales you're only Welsh by blood and well idk if you were born there too actually.
@@ladyfoxwf1075 I'm British born Indonesian, unlike Indian, African or Pakistani immigrants, Indonesian never stay for good, they always comeback to Indonesia, so are my parents. And now I live in Bali and apparently people always surprised when they heard me speaking English in British accent, in Indonesia there is a term "bule" for white foreigners and that's why they surprised when they heard me speaks English because I sound like bule. grassulo we don’t come from a land of dragons, we come from a mystical land where we have idiots governing over us who make up their own little name like “senedd” or the welsh government who force our children to learn a dying language instead of putting school resources to something more helpful like Latin or Spanish or mandarin... i mean bloody hell the only real good thing they’ve ever actually done for us is to remove prescription fees.....
and that’s literally it
@@thelambsauce7307 yeah I agree with you but alot of schools in Wales do educate Welsh and Spanish sometimes french
@@thelambsauce7307 I agreed with you up until the ‘dying language’ part. It’s making learning Welsh compulsory that stopped it from dying. I was ‘forced’ to learn Welsh as a child and I’m glad I was, because now I can shit talk the English as much as I like without them knowing a damn word I’m saying, and if they ask, I just nod and play the ‘dumb, friendly Welshman’ trope.
One you’ve missed is saying you’re from Wales but the north and they do a South Wales accent. Which is like telling someone you’re from Newcastle and they do a cockney accent.

Which is more common, the incest or the meth head jokes?
The thing about alabama is that it isn't even true, unlike wales.
I am Romanian. 7 months ago I moved to wales. And I find that the welsh people have more in common with us, at a deeper level, then I will ever have with other nationalities from the west. Plus, from this video I found out that we both have a word that can't be translated in other language with the same depth of meaning. My word is ,,dor,, which is a feeling of longing for a lost love for example and they have ,,hiraeth,, which basically means the same thing. That shows me that their is a similarly way of understanding the world as some level between Romanian and welsh people. At least in this situation and from my 7 months experience in a few others. For example it was funny to see that my welsh friend when he heard for the first time traditional Romanian music did instinctively a gesture that we usually make when we listen to that music. So stop thinking your best than other people, I am sure you have some things to be proud in your culture to, but until you can translate ,,dor,, and ,,hiraeth,, with the same depth I am afraid your a bit behind. :)

@@The_Affable_Grump exactly, well said, great comment.
I have never actually been to the south but I have heard that it is worse than the north of wales
Let me tell you, I live in North Wales. The places to Avoid are Wrexham, Caernarfon, Pwllheli, Rhyl, Flint. Llandudno and Bangor is probably one of the best places for a tourist to stay as it's in a good location, for those who want a more disclosed, private place to go maybe Betws Y Coed in Snowdonia National Park, Very nice in the summer with the river you can swim in. You can go to Aberfalls as well. Llamberis is the perfect place for a family, The lake is safe to swim in and is a kayaking lake as well with loads of activities in summer, also they have a kayak hire shop. If you want to be more North go to Rhosneigr Beach in Anglesey £5 entrance fee in summer cause it gets very busy. You can also go to Plas Menai which has loads of activities with accommodation and stuff. You can go to the Ski slopes in Llandudno, You can go on the Fastest Zip line in the world above Snowdon national park in Bethesda, or Even go to a trampoline park underground in a cave. or maybe go on the brand new Forest Coaster near Betws Y Coed. Looking for beautiful views? Go to North West Wales with beautiful holiday parks and ocean views. Feeling adventurous? Walk up Snowdon the tallest mountain in England and Wales, go Paintballing near Llamberis. Go on the fastest Rib ride in the world at Menai Bridge trust me it's fast I been on it. Also Menai bridge has spectacular views on the straights. Also was the place the brand new Robert Downey Film Dolittel was filmed. If you like flying? Go to Dinas Dinlle airport and fly on a helicopter above Snowdon national park, or you can even hire a one of those gyrocopter if that's what they call it things. Trust me you can't get bored in North Wales, you can only judge until you come.
There’s so many more welsh accents! Where’s the north

Im from the Valleys and went to uni in Aberystwyth. Whilst there a 16 year old fellow Welsh person who I worked in coop with told me she thought the valleys were one wooden hut in a valley with no electricity or anything for miles. This from a girl whose own town is a western outcrop nowhere near any sort of built up area and still hasn't fully worked out double glazing whilst I live in an area of 250,000 people 15 miles from the capital even if there does happen to be mountains around us. Goes to show not even all people in Wales know much about other parts of it.
Please do Things Not to Say To People With Anxiety and Things Not To Say To People With Dyspraxia. I love Wales and welsh people and have a full respect for their culture and country. I have always wanted to learn the welsh language oddly.
Don't bother literally no one speaks it
Little Miss Sunshine good idea
Yes Welsh is a beautiful language and is a gateway to so many amazing cultural opportunities, in North Wales everyone speaks it! Tbh we need more speakers because sadly it's dying out :,(
MeowMeow Copter. You're probably looking in the wrong places. Last statistic I heard was that 40% of the population are fluent, and most people know bits and pieces. I sing Welsh more than I speak it, but that's the best way to hear and grasp the language, in my opinion.
Welsh is an awful language. Hardest one I’ve had to learn.

Born and raised in Wales, and the most common ones I get are: Sheep-shagger, ‘you don’t sound Welsh’ and Llanfairpwllgwyn (I actually lived near there for a year once). And from my overseas friends I get a lot of ‘where’s that?’ And ‘oh that’s in England right?’ and a lot of questions about the language. (I only paid enough attention in school and day-to-day life to pick up the common phrases so I’m not much use there lmao wish I had learned it back then, one of my biggest regrets).
Celtic languages give a little tug at my heartstrings :)
another one would be that most people consider Wales to be just Cardiff & Swansea, not knowing how isolated North and South Wales actually are from each other - many parts of Wales (especially across the north) have easier access to Dublin, Liverpool, Manchester and even London than their own capital!
I met tom Jones for coffee last week, lovely guy. We talked about Wales.

As a Welsh man who’s lived in London for 20 years, I relate to EVERYTHING in this video. I’m not proud of being Welsh SAID NO WELSH PERSON EVER!! ❤️
Years ago I had a job which entailed liaising with the police in London. I once made an enquiry to a police station, to find that the sergeant at the other end of the phone was a fellow South Walian - he was from Swansea, but I'm not. We chatted briefly about the old country before getting down to the business end of things. He asked me to hold while he got some paperwork from a filing cabinet and, as he was doing so, I overheard his conversation in the distance:
"Found another ex-pat, sarge?", asked a voice - "Yeah", he replied, "from Neath. Sheep-shagging country". He returned and we continued our conversation, but before we said our goodbyes, I said, "Oh, and by the way, sergeant, I'd much rather be a sheep-shagger than a Swansea Jack". He was very apologetic, but I really didn't mind, and we both had a bloody good laugh about it.
I’m 3rd generation Australian but my dads side is originally Welsh and I’ve always wanted to visit Wales! Popty Ping is not 'microwave' btw. It's just a recent, made up word that Welsh learners and English people think is part of the language. The Welsh word for it is 'Microdon'.
Are you sure about that? Recent? I’m certain I’ve heard it for 30 years.
@@deldia 30 years is recent in terms of language.
Antony Evans but microwaves only became popular in Wales in the 80s which is 30 years ago.
@@deldia I'm not really referring to when microwaves became popular, just that words introduced in the last 30 years would be considered recent.
Antony Evans look at the context in which this discussion is taking place please. Original post said it’s just a recent word and does not mean microwave. It does mean microwave and I’ve been aware of it for 30 years. The implication is that recent is not 30 years. It can’t be more than 30 years because they were not even a thing much beyond that.
I'm Cornish and I feel so much of this about the language.... I grew up in Michigan (my great-grandparents came here for coal mining) and I still live here but I have a degree in linguistics and I'm learning Cornish and I love it
A friend of mine is Welsh and learning Cornish (and Welsh, and Breton) and there's so many similarities because the languages are so closely related
Yesterday my entire extended family had an hour-long argument over my mom putting carrots and a side crimp in pasties because that's not traditionally Cornish (and about how a pasty with pineapple made by an American won the open contest..)
CORNISH IS AMAZING!! I’ve always wanted to learn it bc its close to welsh!

I'm American and a life-long geography geography lover, so I learned about Wales early on. It disappoints me that many other Americans know next to nothing about Wales. They also think England is stuck in some sort of prim and proper Edwardian time warp but that's besides the point.
As a half Irish half welsh person, I now have two videos dedicated to me😂😂
I AM WELSH!!! I LOVE WALES!!!
CYMRU AM BYTH!!
🤣 I'm so happy there are Welsh people, who speaks Welsh, but can't pronounce that town's name 🤣

Is Tom Jones still looking through people's windows
Went to Wales a couple years ago and I’ve been dreaming of going back. Beautiful country and the best meal I’ve ever had in my life - lamb pie with leek sauce........... 🤤
It's true what they were saying! Us Welsh don't get enough credit ❤️
I’m from the middle of the US, and I relate to these Welsh folks quite a lot

Possibly Londoners should learn to be polite, kind and friendly, especially to visitors.

I may only be 1/8th welsh, but this video makes me so proud of that 1/8th.
I'm part Welsh. My last name is common in Wales. I'm proud of my Welsh heritage. I need to learn their language.
