The Supreme Court has long ruled that police officers are not legally obligated to protect citizens. They are called “law enforcement” for a reason. Their sole duty is to enforce laws set forth by Congress.
There isn’t a law on the books that say that you’re entitled to police protection. 😊
Any police officer that would leave children alone with a guy the gun who's killing them for an hour does not deserve to wear a badge
This is the part of that day that keeps thinking and reliving in my mind-what those children must’ve thought of all of us adults the poor little ones.

An unarmed mother walked in for her two kids and walked out with a classroom of kids. She deserves a medal, an award, and some pretty weak men taking some of her lead.

No, the actual first officer on scene was denied the option to shoot first. He had the capacity to stop while situation. Also the next officer that was the first to walk in the school was the only one that pushed. The people behind him were not helping and they had the capacity to fight and chose to.

@@diverbob33 he absolutely did and he was accountable and commendable for his actions. It’s just sad two people behind him were filled with cortisol and adrenaline, so they got tunnel vision in the bad way. I think the citizens wanted and demanded more considering they have foot the bill for hiring them. I can’t fault people if they had no training in this type of scenario.

The reality that your 9 year old was slaughtered in his classroom at school is a nightmare. Add to that the police stood right outside the door and did nothing about it for 77 minutes seems like it would be unbearable. Anger is an understatement, more like rage!
The gunman shot the students and their teachers with a semi-automatic assault rifle, an M15! They were ALL DEAD long before the police were even called! The police officers did their JOB and CONTAINED THE GUN MAN TO ONE AREA! If the police had not been there standing in the hallway, the gunman would have had FREE REIGN of the ENTIRE SCHOOL, and he would have gone on to even more classrooms and killed even MORE STUDENTS AND MORE TEACHERS! But, he didn't do that, because the HEROIC, BRAVE LATINO POLICE OFFICERS WERE STANDING THERE GUARDING THAT HALLWAY! THEY NEVER LEFT THEIR POST!

How Arredondo has the nerve to remain in his position is beyond me. He should have resigned immediately IMO, and certainly after the latest report citing the abject failure of all involved, especially those in command.

As it is, Law Enforcement, Military, Fire, First Responders and Prison Guards have high suicide rates. Considering how they failed these children and their teachers so wretchedly, if these men have a conscience, shame and any self-respect, then, I think, it will literally be too difficult for them to live with themselves for very long.

I don't feel safe sending my kid to school but I feel less safe sending her to a school where there's already an officer there every morning. Its always made me uncomfortable. Her school looks more like a prison than a place to learn with all the fencing and police.

They arrested and threatened multiple parents, made many phone calls, talked to each other, shifted accountability, ignored reports of victims calling for help, and made sure to use hand sanitizer when possible. True heros...

"I was a combat vet in Vietnam." If anything that just shows that you should have been the most experienced person to deal with this situation, but instead you decided to allow children to die and only wish to avoid accountability. Total PoS, his prior service does not abstain him of his inaction.
That was a member of the school board, not a member of law enforcement. The guy would have to be in his 70's by now if he was a Vietnam vet. He wasn't the guy in charge during the shooting, just a random old guy from the community that was elected to the school board.

Train the teachers. They are there with the kids and would be the first on scene. it is also my understanding that this school was not only unarmed, but they were unprepared to offer even active protective resistance from violent actors.
@@medbob1 Bro the cops were there in less then 5 minutes after the shooter. They had the opportunity to end it. One cop even had the shooter in his sights but didn't take the shot. Don't even need to arm the teachers this was a complete cop failure from step one.
@@MrDrManPerson How many kids were killed in the first 5 minutes? I would remind you that in a mall in Greenwood Indiana, a man with no military or police experience acted in 15 seconds after the shooter revealed himself. There were two other people killed before he could act IN 15 SECONDS.
While this was a complete failure of bravery by the Cops, if one of these teachers had been armed, it could have stopped long before all of these kids were killed.
I would also mention the Church shooting where a protector was killed, but a second protector in the church had the opportunity to take down the shooter while he was engaged with killing the other protector.
Until we allow those who will be brave enough to protect, to carry concealed everywhere, every day, we will continue to debate response times. Truly, the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
@@medbob1 The teachers should be allowed to carry if they want to but it shouldn't be their job. It's just too much strain on an already underfunded school system to train teachers in that manner. If you want hire good guards and make better schools that can actually lock their doors and have security shutters.

It was a combination of both. When border patrol showed up, they were not informed their were children in the room with the shooter. Lack of communication lead them to find out only after entering the room and seeing the horror. Epic failure by those first on scene from top to bottom.
@@Joe-is-too-old yes! Those first three or four officers that took fire from the shooter and retreated, without ever returning back to the fight need to be placed in jail, until further notice! They were extreme cowards, with no excuse good enough. I could’ve possibly forgiven Arredondo, had he not showed up there. However, seeing him on film asking the shooter to come out politely, as he hears him blasting kids, he to should have a nice cell for him in a medium security prison.
By laying all the blame on law enforcement, the Texas House Investigative Committee absolved Texas republicans who have been pushing rapid-fire, high-capacity, high-velocity rifles into Texas communities for years of any responsibility for the slaughter. The NRA and Texas republicans are delighted that it is so easy to deflect blame from themselves.
@@troyelam8978 They have no obligation to protect citizens. SCOTUS ruled this a long time ago and again after one of the other school incidents in Florida where cops essentially did the same thing.
The only time Republican governance agrees with the word systematic anything is when it refers to something they conduct from-they certainly don’t agree that it’s systematic racism throughout government.
But there were only 377 armed officers with body-armor on the scene that day. How could they possibly do anything to stop a single teenager with a rifle?
Especially poignant since a 22 year old private citizen just stopped one with a rifle in his tracks with his Glock. No special training, no body armor, no rifle, no backup, just him. He did more in one minute than all the myriad LE in Uvalde with rifles, body armor, and backup did in an hour.

When you apply for a job in law enforcement you go through training even if you become scared you have too put that behind you and do the job you are being paid for and remember the oath you have taken . There were many ways to have stopped this guy and none were taken . So just remember the negative thoughts and words that you put out will come back one day .
Well hopefully this motivates the parents and community at large to replace the school board members, city councilman, police chief, and their idiotic mayor who cares more about photo opps with Abbot than actual dead children. There's a clear crisis in leadership and these citizens need to elect people that actually care about their community.

Tragically, the cops are more trained on how to avoid personal accountability en route to collecting retirement or bogus "line of duty" pensions. George Floyd has hastened this dynamic. Protecting the public has become a nagging afterthought. It's "us vs them" and we are all "them".
Yeah, what you wrote. Didn't 1 state recently make it illegal for people to record police while they were actively responding to any situation? If that is the case, it seems as if that must be a violation of our Civil Rights.
Keep in mind they eventually had over 400 law enforcement officials on scene and they all got PAID to stand around as these children were shot to death or bled out from their wounds. UNSPEAKABLE! We stand with the victims and their families forever.

Look it up: The police have NO responsibility to "protect and serve" the community. Their only mandate these days is to "uphold the law" - in other words, if you break the law, they're there all over you, but if you're in trouble, they're off the hook to help.
The left has made it ever more difficult for them to step up. The demonizing of police has made officers second guess everything.

Well the killer “broke the law”. Murder is against the law, so yes, the cops had a duty to uphold the law !
And if they would have shot him then the left would be protesting in the streets just like a black man shot after he shot into a woman’s apartment with her kids inside.
The cops were there to protect the shooter from the parents.
They were well funded, received training, had all the equipment needed, and yet the Uvalde police failed those who needed them most. Shameful.
The state provided the gear and training.they simply over looked issuing balls.
Once it was decided that someone was going to take the shooter out, it only took less than 60 seconds and it was over. So they waited an hour and 20 minutes for a 60 second resolve!
When seconds count, the police are only an hour and a half away...
Teachers must be empowered to be First Protectors. I know several that would have stepped up in seconds if they were encouraged and empowered to carry in the school.

Everyone involved in not going after the shooter should be fired. Not just one person. That "vet" is a coward, his job is to eliminate deadly threats.
The school board, which the vet is a member of, wasn't in charge during the shooting. No one on the school board was at the scene in a law enforcement capacity. I agree the cops should be fired and charged for their inaction, but the school board had nothing to do with how the situation was handled by law enforcement. They need to fire the guy who was in charge, and make some changes to the school security, including getting rid of the cops who should have acted, but they likely only have hiring and firing authority over the school police department, not all of the various agencies and departments that were there. The school police department only has 5 or 6 people on it, so most of the cops there that day weren't cops the school board can fire.
They need a PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGMENT of their failure for accountability and an APOLOGY! And of course, some of these officers (I choked on that) need to be CHARGED for manslaughter at a minimum

I'm still crying for that community... The sheer lack of humanity by the law enforcement on the scene is just mind-blowing. How craven and cowardly a police department could stoop to harass and attempt to intimidate a brave handcuffed Mother determined to escaped do-nothing police and save her two sons (something the police refuse to do). I pray Almighty God that justice will prevail for that community.

The Supreme Court has long ruled that police officers are not legally obligated to protect citizens. They are called “law enforcement” for a reason. Their sole duty is to enforce laws set forth by Congress.

If this would happen in Japan, that police chief would have resigned of his own accord, and there would be serious consequences for the police who didn’t act as well, because they have a sense of honor that these people do not.

The biggest one, letting injured children bleed. When dealing with trauma, the medical experts speak of a golden hour. If good medical treament is given through most of that golden hour, the victim has a good chance for recovery. These police stood around for 3/4 of that golden hour, just letting it bleed away.

Nope, State troopers can take command due to having jurisdiction (basically all of the State). Depending on city ordinance, the Uvalde police department could have also taken command due to them having jurisdiction over the city. The Uvalde school district police has jurisdiction only on school campus grounds. Multiple failures all around, just like the report stated.
