Polish Food - Eating Pierogi taste test in Krakow, Poland

- Опубликовано: 4 авг 2017
- Join us for our favorite Polish food as we eat Pierogi in the form of a taste test (both savory and sweet) in Krakow, Poland. We found a restaurant called Pierogarnia - Słowiańska Uczta on our first full day in Krakow after shopping for some groceries just across the street. We ended up eating there on a whim and what a pleasant surprise it was. The pierogi served at this restaurant are some of the best we've ever had and we ended up going back several times.
All in all we tried 40 different pierogi for this video including savory and dessert options. It was a feast of feasts.

Polish Food - Eating Pierogi taste test in Krakow, Poland travel food video transcript:
So it is our first day here in Poland in Krakow. In Krakow.
And anyways we've got Pierogi on our minds. We are going to get pierogies. Oh and we're so hungry. We even we're even crossing the river to go find it today. We've been willing to cross a river to go have pierogi. That shows how dedicated we are.
This is awesome. Like this is a gigantic menu just outside of the restaurant here.
So we are kicking off our first full day in Krakow with pierogies. What else?
The most popular Polish dish. This is something that everyone knows about. Even in Canada we've got like frozen pierogi. So it is popular.
They are not nearly as good as the freshly made ones. No. Here in Poland. But yeah. It is something that kind of we are kind of subsisting off of pierogies in the winter in Canada. Yes. When we were in Kingston a few years ago.
It is like a really hearty meal. You know when it is cold out and you just need something that is going to fill you up and sit there for a few hours. Pierogi always a good idea.
But it is summer here but we're still going to have them anyways. We're still having it. Yeah. And actually we had some yesterday at the train station but it was just like a quick little snack and it wasn't amazing.
This place literally specializes in them. This is their menu. And we spotted this place yesterday when we were heading to our apartment so we like we're coming back. We placed four orders.
And each order comes with 10 pierogi so that is 40 pierogies that we're going to be eating for just 2 of us. 20 each!
So 20 plump savory dumplings have showed up at our table.
So we ordered two savory kinds. I think the first one was the Ruskie. Ruskie or something which is the traditional one which is like mashed potatoes and cheese.
And the other one we got fancy. We got like mushrooms, feta and something else. No, wasn't it walnuts or something?
So yeah oh and it comes with like caramelized onions on top. Wow. So let's try this.
We ate 40. We ate 40 pierogi. I feel like we deserve a gold medal in like the gluttony olympics or something.
That was I wonder what the record is?
How many pierogies. Has one person ate. Did we just break a Guinness World Record here?
But that was pretty much the ultimate pierogi taste test. Two savories, two dessert pierogi. I mean if you're going to try Polish food you absolutely have to try pierogi. And we really lucked out with this place. We didn't find it in a guidebook or even a recommendation we just while we were getting groceries last night and we walked by it.
That is going past. Anyways, yeah that maybe they are coming to rescue me because my belly is about to explode.
But anyways yeah I think we'll be coming back here for sure. We've got a whole week ahead of us. We'll be coming back here for pleasure and uh yeah pierogi in Poland guys.
You've got to try it. And price point for this meal?
So it was 56 Zloty which roughly is 13 Euros and that included our two drinks and 40 pierogi.
Yeah, it was pretty good value as well. Now time for a nap. Time for an enormous siesta.
This is part of our Travel in Poland video series showcasing Polish food, Polish culture and Polish cuisine.
I'm a simple Hungarian. I see Poland, I press like. Cześć from Wegry brothers
Cool to hear. I hope you can visit :)
We love our Hungerian brothers as well, i salute you sir!!
Polak, Węgier, dwa bratanki, i do szabli, i do szklanki
:D
I'm Polish and even I havent seen chocolate pierogi ever in my life.
It must be very rare.
Bartosz Osika me neither. Sadly, because they sound delish for sure.
In fact, in Poland we have plenty type of dumplings, but unfortunaley most of restaurants serve only a few basic types (like ruskie, with meat, with mushrooms etc) But there are also restaurants only with dumplings and they have about 20-30 types of pierogi ;) And the best is event called "Festival of dumplings" when You can find even much more types (cooks from various parts of Poland prepare dumplings in regional way). For example I like dumplings with beans, mexican, with cream cheese, with plum, with cherries, with lentils and many more. You can prepare pierogi with almost everything :) Greetings and Bon Apetit! ;)
Me too 😂😂😂
The Polish foods are very very very good. The Pierogi (Polish Dumplings) is a great choice, because this is an amazingly delicious food. Enjoy your meal.
Thank you very much! Totally agree with you :)
This is why I'm so happy I was born and raised in Poland. Taught by my aunts how to make them. I came to the US when I was 17, 16 years ago. And there's this awesome little neighborhood in south Jersey, that once in a while smells like a pierogi factory, because I decide to make them. And it's a process :x :3
I'm Ausralian with Polish grandparents. The traditional potato pierogi my grandmother would first fry up some pork belly fat cut into half inch (or smaller) cubes until crispy with the caramelized onion to garnish! ooooww yeeeeah
i miss her and pierogi sooo much
Nothing like Mom's or Grandma's cooking!
That's exactly how they should be served :) Delicious! Do you know what part of Poland your grandparents are from?
Man, I just came back from Poland yesterday and I lovvveeee the blueberry pierogi, already miss them :(
They're so good! We miss them now as well.
OMG I live in Kraków and just yesterday I was walking by that place with my boyfriend and I was like "We have to go there this week!" :) And today RUclips recommends me that video, that's clearly a sign 😂 I'm happy that you enjoyed your stay in my beautiful town! Greetings ❤
Thank you! That is cool to hear. Looking forward to hearing about your experience :)

dzien dobry, I hope the planets/stars aligned correctly for you to make it to the restaurant that week? i loved and miss my grandmotherand her pierogi (I'm Polish Australian) na zdrowie
Yes that sounds cool. But also creepy.
"Ruskie pierogi" come from "Ruś", which translates into "Ruthenia", and was a part of Poland till II WW. That has nothing in common with Russia, except from its name, which is pretty confusing even for the Poles.
it sounds like "french" fries which has nothing to do with France (it comes from "to french" which means a way of cutting the fries in slices)
Nie wiem skąd wziąłeś że Polski na mapię nie było 150 lat ale jesteś w błędzie bo nie było 123lata 1795-1918=123
@@valeriesoumoy5096 "it comes from "to french" - No it doesn't. It comes from mistakeing Belgians as French because Belgians spoke French.
@@brunonkowalski i don't agree :) (but anyways mistaking frenchies with belgians is terrible)
Very nice video! Each of you ate 20 pierogi - you're my heroes!!!!
Thank you! We sure ate well :)
You guys are Awesome!!! I found your channel last year right before my trip to Lisbon, your videos in Lisbon helped me a lot ... every time I watch your videos Portugal comes to my mind, lol
Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much! Lisbon is such an awesome city. I think we'll be returning there next year with my parents.
It's always fun watching the two of you eat. Like there is much emotion and drama going on... Love your videos!
Thank you! Hahaha...we can sure get silly at times
Nice TRAVEL videos! Greetings from the Philippines ❤️🇵🇭
Thank you very much!
Those pierogi look delicious. Can go for those right now. They look really well made and those with the mushrooms...mmm. Yummy! The dessert pierogi look great too. Love your purple top. It's so pretty on you.
Thank you very much! I wish we could have shared with you :)
Thanks for posting. Your food videos are always the best.
Thank you very much!
So I thought I wanted to go to Denmark next but after seeing this it's Poland! I need to try those Pierogi!!
That is awesome to hear! Good choice :)
i'm polish i must say they are very good
Emily Hill you are very welcome
I am danish
So... Did you visit PL?
Great video guys , Poland has now moved up my bucket list , food looks yummy 😀
Thank you! That is awesome to hear. Highly recommend visiting :)
Speak either in polish Crackoof or in english Cracow - the middle form sounds artifitial and it`s unnecesary tongue twisting.
Pierogi is a plural form out of singular pieróg (pron. pieroog), so never "pierogis" since it looks double multiple form.
@tomasz walter - more people need educated on this sadly, but we will get there. I dislike hearing the word pierogis or pierogies, in English it would be like telling people to put your trouserses or glasseses on!
Tomasz Walter Kraków not crackoof
JenzerBabiee im from poland and its such a beautiful place which a lot of poeple dont usually think of as a must place to visit but its great
I'm hungry 😋! Pierogis I love so much! Poland, here I come. Awesome video👏. Thanks for sharing.
That is great to hear! Hope you visit soon :)
Chris Kozak Pierogi not Pierogis :)
That video has pushed Poland up my wish list a few places those Pierogi looked very tasty. I will keep an eye for them at our British Christmas markets also.
Thank you! That is great to hear. Ah, those markets sound great.
Thanks for the GREAT recommendation. Awesome pierogies :) Keep up the great travel videos :)
Thank you very much! They were delicious.
I have to say that. I'm Polish and I'm impressed. 20 pierogów for each of you. Bravo!!!
Another nice video! Thank you.
Hi Guys,
Its 6 a.m in Sydney, and my stomach started rumbling even before Audrey took her 1st bite...i need some brekky !
Those Pierogis were fully stuffed ; and so were Sam & Audrey after devouring them, Ha ha !
Great effort.
Jim.
Thank you very much Jim! I wish we could have sent you some for brekky! Oh my, we were stuffed beyond belief after this meal ;)
Great to see you both trying my favourite food. Please note that the word "pierogies/pierogis" is incorrect. In Polish, "pierogi" is a general plural term, however it's ONE pierog, TWO, THREE, FOUR pierogi, anything FIVE or more is pierogow! Something good to know that some Polish menus even forget to mention. Smacznego!
Thanks for letting us know Jonny! Such bad habits with the plural form in the way we say in Canada. Ah, had no idea about it being pierogow after 5.
Yes it can be confusing even for some Polish people. I only wish I had known earlier, as I could have met you in all those cities and shown you some cool parts of Poland. I've lived here for about 14 months now and it's always nice to see other travel writers and tourists covering Poland, the second best country in Europe to me (after Northern Ireland!). Safe travels wherever you go next.
Jonny Blair *one 'pieróg' to be 100% correct ;D
I am from Poland :D Greetings! ❤
Oh, so cool! Where in Poland do you live?
South of the Poland ;) It just one hour from Cracow :D
What is the actual white sauce?
Sour cream
they said it was like a custard and they aren't serving sour cream with the chocolate banana pierogi are they?
You are such passionate eaters! And you sound so excited - I do the same when I travel and eat.
Thank you! We're definitely passionate about food.
So glad you guys tried & enjoyed kompot. It's one of those Polish gems that are ridiculously easy to prepare and super good.
We just loved it! Thanks!
Kompot are fruits covered in a water with sugar and cooked in this way. We keep it in apaterisated jar, you can keep it long months, no chemistry, all 100% natural :) Ruskie is white, cottage cheese (sometimes kind of philadelphia cheese), potatoes and bacon (optionaly). We like also with minced meat or mushrooms (forest one), mushrooms and sour cabbage, spinach and feta. Than we have sweet pierogi with fruits: strawberries (june, july), blueberries (september), cottage cheese with sweet cream on top (optionaly with vanilla) - and this mentioned are traditional one, rest are variations, because with pierogi only border of preparing them is cook´s imagination. Pierogarnia is the best place to eat them, or very good restaurant, so you couldn't get better :) Sweet pierogi we are eating for...a lunch :D in a summer, when is warm and you don't feel like eat heavy things, there is nothing better like lunch with fruits. We have laso fruit soup in summer :D
Thank you for all of the information! Oh, my gosh so many delicious ones to try :)
even I haven't try all of them yet :D
Great travellers/eaters/vloggers. thanks.
I must confess something... I'm addicted to that vid!!! And you make me hungry every time! :)
Thank you! Wish we could share.
Actually, It would be very welcome, because I have to make my own pierogi every time I watch you, and my BMI starts showing me that I'm not tall enough...
Soooo nice. Have to love Polish food. The whole Eastern European countries offer great food most people barely know :)
Thank you! Totally agree with you. We're planning to visit Ukraine in September and hope to try a lot of food while we're there :)
Wow, nice. Looking forward to the vlogs :)
Poland is Central Europe!
Eastern European food is slept on. Goulash and stroganoff are amazing.
I really enjoy watching ur video😃
Thank you very much! We really appreciate hearing that :)

Hi Samuel & Audrey we are loving your videos. My partner Myriam is from Chile and I am Polish . We live in Melbourne Australia - we were salivating as you were eating the Pierogi ! It looked so delicious... In our local Polish club here in Melbourne we have a nice kitchen but would you believe 6 small pierogis cost $13 thats about (40 PL ZLOTY ) I think when we visit Poland again we will beat your record and have 100 and might try the Polish soup first.. Wishing you all the best and Happy travels Dave & Myriam Cheers !!!!
Do it yourself :) It's very simple.
I have heard of Chocolate Pierogi, but never had them, I ve had Blue berry, then the meat is my favorite, traditional one is the mushroom and sour kraut, this traditional for holidays, I want to go back home, now, after seeing this, I was born in Warsaw, Poland. I miss, it,..!
Thanks! The traditional ones sound really good.
You know you passed the Polish food test if you eat czernina soup. It's a brown soup with noodles, raisins, and pitted prunes. It also contains duck blood. Very delicious.
WoW! Would love to try that Dean!
I love your channel!
Thank you very much!
Omg, that looks good, now I'm craving pierogis!
Thanks! It sure was delicious. Wish we could share!
Really good video ! Greetings from Poland ❤❤
BTW Audrey is so pretty 💖
Thank you! We sure enjoyed our time in Poland :)
Ah, thanks!
I love how Audrey says "oh la la" in every video! Also you guys make me want to go everywhere you film - although I have already been to Krakow this still made me want to go back again. Watching from the UK.
Thank you very much! Hehehe...we have some silly sayings we just can't seem to shake off. How you can revisit again soon.
You are killing me!! I love pierogis.
Oh, wish we could share. We could have used some help with these.
Nooo, I am so hungry after watching that video... I've gotta go to polish shop now and buy some pierogi :D
Ah,hope you grab some tasty ones!
I am from Poland, Wrocław and I love pierogi!!
Very cool! Where is your fav spot to get them?
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos my house 👌😂
I feel so hungry once you have uploaded this appetizing video
I wish we could share!
If you ever chance to be in Poland again, do try to visit Lublin for sightseeing and try the food there - I recommend the local variety of pierogi, filled with sweet cheese instead of the savoury mix, and cebularz. If you're lucky to spot a local fair you might be able to try szczypka as well! Also, greetings from Poland, your videos are lovely!
Thank you very much! We'd love to visit Lublin and other places the next time we're in Poland :)
Finally heard an ooh la la from Audrey. Don't think I heard it in Germany or Kyrgyzstan so the pierogis must have been really good :)
Hehehe...Audrey stamp of approval for sure :)
I wish I could travel and try all
The foods world has to offer.
I never tried it before, It looks
good.
Thanks, where would you like to go first?
Hi, glad you like it. I am from Cracov and I eat pierogi all my life. My favorites are ruskie and with blueberries.
Thank you very much! Oh, those sound so tasty!
I love ruskie pierogi, but I love them fried after cooked and with sour creme (sauce). That way they taste the best, in my opinion. :). Great video of you enjoying the pierogi!
Thanks Karl! The fried ones sound so good!
Podoba mi sie jej reakcja mmmmm
Living in St. Louis, Missouri, with no polish restaurant, watching your video made me insanely crave! I'm going to the biggest polish city in the world, Chicago, to get those! You've done it!
Krzysztof Grygiel Nie przesadzaj, Warszawa , a New York tez ma juz wiecej polskich mieszkancow, niz Chicago. Jak bedziesz tam jechal, to wybierz sie na grzyby do Wisconsin i sam sobie zrobisz swietne pierogi.
Thank you very much! That is awesome to hear. I bet they have some incredible stuff in Chicago.
Nice both of u
Those looks yummy :P

Hi. I'm from Kraków :)
Hey! That is cool to hear. Which part of the city do you live in?

I have 20 min to the Old Town
Sandra Hejmo hi . I love polish ladies. You’re cute . Just saying. I am also part polish and part Danish
Mikkel mads Sørensen Thank you 😄
Pierogi are the Best 😍
They are so good!
i am from Poland, living in England. Pierogi are great. Ruskie (potatoes and cabbage), with fruits (strawberries or berries), with lentils.
Ah, cool to hear! Yeah, they're super tasty :) We ate so many of them while traveling in Poland.
Delicious! ☺
Thanks Kelly!
Mmmm those pierogi look fabulous, I can't believe they have chocolate and strawberry ones 😍 I have never tried pierogies ever and those chocolate ones look naughty and addictive lol
Thank you! The dessert ones were really good. I needed to do a big jog later on that day ;)
Pierogi with blueberries are still the best and most popular of sweet ones.
I can made pierogi for U
They are very easy to make trust me :D
Ale pyszne pierogi 😋😋😋😋😋ale tęsknię za pysznymi pierogami 😭😭😭
Those chocolate pierogi
Thank you!
I'm in Krakow visiting, and decided to try this place. Shared a table with a complete stranger, and turned out that he was there because of this video too.. I had 10 perogies, I have no clue how the two of you are 20 each lol.
You should try 'barszcz z uszkami', uszka are like tiny pierogi stuffed with meat and mushrooms and barszcz is a beetroot soup. We have it during Christmas and people always lose their shit for that dish.
That sounds so good! We'll try to find them.
My goal is to try Pierogi as it sounds intresting and i live trying new foods out
Watching Audrey eat pierogi makes my mouth watering :D A piece of advice - next time order the ruskie or the ones with mushrooms fried in deep fat.
Oh, thank you! Hope to try those next time.
You might not believe but when my mom does Ruskie pierogi with that holy caramelized onion i can eat 60 of them my self!!!
That is impressive to hear! I imagine they must be irresistibly delicious :)
So delicious.....
Thank you!
I'd eat half a chocolate and half a strawberry together. YUM!
Now that is a good strategy! :)
Woohoo!!! You guys are on your way to 100k subscribers!!!!!!!
Oh and now I'm craving pierogis now :D
Thank you very much!
I wish we could share.
My mouth is watering
Thanks Vitaly!
I am your huge fan
Thank you very much!
Oh my God My Mouth is Watering!!!
BTW, chocolate pierogi are a bit weird for me as a Pole, we don't traditionally eat them ;) May be tasty though :) And my guess is that the sauce was just sour cream with sugar, that's what we usually serve with sweet pierogi
Bravo!!! Me, as a food freak, I just love that kind of test tasting, real time, real food, chosen with some reserch. Bravo again. Can't wait for more!
And greetings from Poland :)
P.S. Oh, and have some sub from me :)
P.S. 2: Audrey, next time please don't cut fruit pierogi, it's just waisting of all the juice that's inside and spoils the taste. You can also have some sugar on top of the fruit ones, if you like.
P.S. 3 :)))) sorry, but I just spotted that the price is soooo cheap, even for polish standards. 10 pierogi for 12 PLN? And they really look nice stuffed. Can you send some directions? ... That is the wierdest thing I've done here, asking travelling Canadians for food direction's in Poland.. Life is suprising :))) Love you guys!
Edit: I just deleted my plural/singular pierogi thing, sorry that I didn't noticed for the first time, that you are well aware of it! Sorry once again. It's just so unusual :) The more respect to you!
i love your vid
thank you
Those prices are AMAZING!!!!!
Totally agree with you!
In Canada I know lots of Polish people who always make their own pierogies.I know in Alberta you can buy them fresh at the farmers markets.Yum😀🇨🇦
Oh, those are the best! Nothing like the freshly made ones :)
If you went off one of the like alleys coming off of the main square in krakow there is a 24hour pierogi place that does sweet pierogi as well as savoury and I recomend the chicken and spinach and the strawberry pierogi
Oh, thanks for letting us know about that place!
I love with cheese, strawsberrys and blu berrys-U must try them;)
Oh, that would be amazing :)
165 pierogies in 8 min is the record of First Pierogies Championship organized in USA in 2014
Woah, we have a ways to go I'd say ;)
Go to Wedel on the market square and eat their chocolate pierogi with cheescake filling.
Thank you for the tip! Woah, cheesecake filling! YUM YUM YUM
Went to Krakow from London last month. Very safe place no police or to be scared of any terrorism. Pure Europe high 🏨 standard good prices and quality of a food i was surprised that everything looks new . 300 churches 100 museums 2000 clubs and pubs (8 english) 26 uni 400 000 students amazing score
I hate to admit this, but I've never had pirogi....now I want some!!!! But, I live in LA, so I will go and have some kimchi mandu and some naengmyun!😋 I'll have some for you guys!!😁
Ah, thank you! If you like Mandu you will very likely enjoy pierogi as well :) Hope you can try some soon.
Strawberry or apple pierogi are the best of the sweet ones.
Guys if you are still in Poland you have to visit Podlachia region! We have bisons! :D
Thanks! Sounds like a great region to visit.
If you want Buy good wine in Krakow you must find special shops with wine. Very good pierogi you will find in the restaurant "Pod Srebrym Kurem" - address: Topolowa 3. I recommend you Mexican restaurant "Manzana" on the street Krakusa 11 (I work there, i'm food driver). Very close to where you live now in Krakow. Sorry for my English. I'm still learning.
The food looks appetising and versatile please do a vlog sometime about the Southern Canadian dishes in my opinion Canadian food is the best in the world
Thank you! Ah, what should we do? Any dishes you think we should highlight in particular?
St Catherine's Taffy,Maple Taffy, Montreal style smoked meat,Bannock etc.
Pierogi in Poland 😍
Gotta love it!
Kisses from Poland :)
Thanks! Ah, we miss Poland.
Dobre ciasto na pierogi to połowa sukcesu. Farsz (nadzienie pierogów) można robić na wiele sposobów. Rarytasem są pierogi z nadzieniem: jagody leśne + cukier.
Można zrobić pierogi, potem je ugotować, dokładnie odsączyć (wysuszyć) z wody i zamrozić.
2 jajka (żółtka i białka)
you have to try zurek while you are in krakow
btw i'm coming to krakow tomorrow
and this is a really good place to eat : www.google.it/maps/place/Bombonierka/@50.0512277,19.9448605,132m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xc03d4f35df928f0b!8m2!3d50.0514899!4d19.944326
