It’s really strange that first generation managed to pass while the last failed. He cars are different, of course, so we can’t just say “haldex v sucks”, still it’s interesting to try and make some analysis. Is it possible that the new A3 had some issues with its clutch pack or the pump? A friend of mine with a superb 2 had issue with his haldex pump that had failed, which lead to practical incapability to force the rear wheels to spin, but still had some veeeery slight power. We tried it on a slippery slope. Strangely enough, the car moved a cm or two, it looked like trying to push with the rear wheels and after a certain threshold was passed, it looked like the rear wheels just were saying “I’m done here” and the fronts right away were losing grip. He went to the service station he next day, they brought he car in the air and the rears started to spin. However, it was possible for two people to literally stop them by hand. They they scanned for errors and voila, an error for a failing pump was logged. All that being said, is it possible that the newer A3 manages to spin the rear on the rollers because there is some kind of a mechanical preload, just like on the 2015 superb? And when the pump is required to kick in, it just can’t do it?
If you look at first test (front wheels on rollers) you can see that haldex is working great. It is almost locked and car moves forward without any problems so rear wheels are talking almost all of the torque. I think that difference here may come from different EDL setup is S3. I will try to find A3 8L and S3 8V and compare them with S3 8L and A3 8V.
1 gen haldex is active, 4/5 gen is reactive, u can see that a3 8v haldex is on, even when wheels are not speening but are on rollers, in s3 it took some time for rear wheels to spin, and u have to remember, these are just haldex systems, within 20 years they are practicaly the same but newer is just faster
@@oktawianjuszczak5178 It is all up to software but in general 1st generation is reactive, although some cars have very basic proactive function. New generations have fully proactive control.
You are right! I also have problem with pump and clatches on my Skoda octavia scout, haldex 5. At first pump was weak and cant do what is suposed to do, when i put new on, then i also have front wheel sllip under the heavy load, then i changed clutches and now it works perfect. This audi has pump issue 100%. Yep it works but not heavy enough!

Definitely not good as a first car, this car is beast and if you dont have much experince in driving car or you jist gain your licence, start with regular A3. These little turbo hot cars got big problems with young drivers, car is great, handle sweet and are so powerful but not exprienced drivers cannot handle this and this ussualy leads to some crash or broken car. Start with some car around 100 HPs and then continue. If you like your and others life.
I hope you did do it. Great car, my second car now. Started with a polo 9n3 Gti 150hp, with the same engine. Now own an Audi S3 8L ABT, with 100hp more. Very similiar but more refind by the quattro & K04 turbo. Actual tips: do your haldex oil & filter. Aswel as your engine oil, filter & oilpump filter (inside the oilpan is a filter) about every 10/12,5dkm. Only drive on Shell V-power if able or other premium 100/98octane fuels. Maintance is like your best friend, these cars need alot of special attetion & a big wallet to go along with it. Try keeping it OEM or OEM+ is a must. Never skip out on part costs. Swap anything with oem or beter parts when signals of defect. My main point is: this complex little car is amazing to have on the road. But not ideale to keep it on. If you dont already have a space to work on your car, or the time & expierence with these engine's ( & money, big factor). This is not for you.
