Thanks for watching. Good question! I have spent a lot of time in Finland - We have family there. Have even been to Moomin World! Love Finland and all the Nordic countries!
Freeze dried meals are very expensive here $10 for mountain house breakfasts baxon and eggs. Theyve shot up in recent years also i cant seem to find mres. 🇨🇦
I watch mre videos to see what they put 8n them and I try to substitute. But there seems to be some regular type camp food like bannock and hard tack. I wish I could find hard tack lke in the mres but nobody seems to sell it and I dont know how to make it. 🤔
Have you tried the new expedition range of dinners from Campers Pantry? The packaging is much smaller as it’s vacuum sealed, so no need to transfer it into a ziploc?
Woop! First comment again. Have you thought about purchasing a food dehydrator? I've got one and make dried fruit such as mangoes, pineapple, strawberries etc. So good to eat as you walk.
@@bananarama3624 I believe the Radix meals are a NZ brand. I quite like them. The Falafel meal is my fave. Other than that I have tried very much by trial and error. Would love to try some of the boutique brands coming out of the states but they are very expensive to ship.
The Lamb Fettuccine was ok. No complaints at all and gave me some variety. Not sure I'd go with their cooked breakfasts again though! bit of a mush of different things and i might stick with porridge and granola!
Have tried them but constantly have trouble getting them to rehydrate correctly. Either too soggy or lots of dry bits. Some of my friends love them though!
Thanks for the video. Out of curiosity: what's the average total weight of food per day? I will join a 10-day hiking trip in summer with no supply options along the way, and I've been told that it will come down to about 1 kg of food per day.
@@mowsertas peanut butter but with almonds 8nstead of peanuts?? Is that it? Oh nice. I bet you have a few things down there that we dont have here. Do have nutella? It's like a chocolate spread. 👍
Strive Food is a good source of dehydrated meals for bushwalking. And packaged small. They are Tasmanian also - shop front in Sandy Bay.
Great tip. Have used them before!
How come you have a Moomin character on your fridge? Greetings from Finland, I like your videos!

Yep. Starting to work on some home made options as price is getting crazy.

I got bisquick and I've been making biscuits. But you need a pan for that. Or maybe a Sierra cup.
Who would have guessed I’m eating those Mi goreng noodles as I’m watching this video! They are the best quick and easy ramen noodles!
Love them!
Try adding chilly sauce and a spoon of peanut butter….mmmmm
Its all new stuff. ❤

Yes we are currently trialling them. Jury is still out.

Also great for a stew or chili, reduce it down to chips, perfect to rehydrate at camp
I also use a dehydrator for main meals. Bolonaise, chicken peanut curry, lentil curry 😊. More work than buying dehydrated meals, but cheaper and fun.
Yep I have one. Didn’t use one this trip but do use it often!
@@mowsertas Any recommendations on what to look for? Here in NZ everything either seems to be too expensive or cheap and bad quality

2:50 "Seed & Sprout Small Silicone Food Pouch" will sort out your nightmare food rehydrating situation for $15
Cool. Thanks for the tip!
How did the back country meal go? Planning the overland atm.

What about Alps and Amici freeze dried meals?

Hey Mowser, any vacancies on Eldon Trip?
Sorry already departed!

For this trip I have about 840g of food per day.
Nut butter? Is that peanut butter?
Almond Butter mainly. Nice stuff!

Don’t forget to take salt,…it’s not included in dried food
Ah yes. Good point!
The little travel packs are nice.
You can add some salt into the trail mix, for more balance with that also, less need for the LMNT style drink
I can't even look at a back country meal again 🤢. So over them.
First time in over 20 years. Probably going to wait another 20!
