    As a finnish person hearing you say "extremely cold conditions [...] around -5 to -10 C" is very weird. But on the other hand you summers would be death for me.

    My one planet had holes in the bottom after a WAT trip followed by a Du Cane Range traverse, I’m just waiting to make the leap to a UL pack such as HMG, it’s between the EXPED lightening and an HMG pack at the moment, I just need to pull the trigger at some point!!
    OL during winter is magical, sunrise over Barn Bluff with snow on from Waterfall Valley was one of my favourite memories from our winter trip a few years ago. A snow dump a few days before led to a decision to take snow shoes but it wasn’t quite deep enough for them so they got lugged the whole way 😂. Due to ice on the road the bus wasn’t running from the visitor centre so we had an extra 8km -/+ to go before the start 😅

    • @mowsertas
      @mowsertas  Месяц назад +1

      It sounds like you had quite the adventure! Good luck with choosing your new pack. Those ranges can be brutal on gear! Extra walk in from the visitor centre! geez!

    Thank you. Think you might have got the really cold weather. I mentioned before I think we crossed paths with your son at Windermere. I watched your 4-layer clothing video and bought (at great expense) the Showra Temres 282-02 - and on our last day we walked out over Cradle Mountain - it looked like the Parks Tasmania Hypothermia video - and the layers and gloves worked a treat. The highlight was bumping into the tourists on Marion’s Peak in their cotton tracksuit pants and plastic ponchos - while we looked like Antarctic adventurers. We loved Alps and Amici food - have just reordered for GOW. My improvement would be micro spikes that you can take on and off easily. I needed to take my boots off the stretch on - a size too small I think. I love Sth to Nth direction. May do it again!

    man only cause you like norwegian gear - not because its at all practical for long hiking, check out the Jerven Fjellduken Hunters It's like a tarp, with reflective coating inside it then lined with synthetic insulation. The Norwegian army uses them, they were designed for hunters to glass an area in the snow/rain. You can set it up heaps of ways. like a tarp, bivy, poncho. Dig the run down of your load out. keep it up and enjoy the trip.

    Another great one Mowser, hope you have a great walk and would love to see a Summer version of this! 😉 I’m headed out end of Feb, gaiters really necessary then? 🤔 Will have Montbell storm cruiser rain pants with me. And have the Torrentshell jacket, though want a Beta AR so bad. But, overkill? 🤔

    • @mowsertas
      @mowsertas  Месяц назад

      You'd get by without gaiters if it's been dry. There are a few boggier sections these days but you'd survive albeit maybe damp feet. A torrentshell should be plenty sufficient for the Overland Track! Heading out again in January so may possibly have another Overland track vide out by then!

    STS ultrasil compression dry bag for sleeping bags everytime. OK a slight weight penalty but you get the bag to half the volume of a conventual stuff sack and it's waterproof.

    Heading off doing the same 21 September 👍, great timing with your video thankyou! Take a look at the Wippa Overland 60L made in the Blue Mountains, ive had mine on a couple of multi-days and impressed so far. With the top pack its a genuine 68L and back pocket its 72L and has all the features, load lifters etc. i added the hyperlite shoulder pouch and water pouch, all up comes in at 1100g there abouts. Do you keep the studs in or do you remove them to be able to pack the tent smaller? Yours looks really small, therefore just wondering.

      Thanks for the kind words! A Tunnel style tent would be a good option for OLT. Back in the day I used to take a Macpac Cascade. Tent platforms are plentiful and I've never had any trouble setting up on them. Winter Overland video coming soon along with newsletter post. Will follow up next summer with another summer video! Your thoughts on the lack of back ventilation for the pack?

    • @mowsertas
      @mowsertas  Месяц назад

      In summer it can definately lead to a sweaty back but I haven't really missed my older style packs since switching to the porter nearly 5 years ago. A lot of people ask me this and it's something I'm prepared to put up with. On my most recent trip it was pretty cool and not an issue and my trip a few months ago where it was hot, I did get a sweaty back but again, it doesn't worry me too much. I have seen that a company called Vaucluse now make backpack ventilation gear but no idea if they do it for this pack and how well it works.

    Hi Mowser, you mentioned in the vid you are looking at alternatives to the Temres Showa glove. Very interested in this as I’m on the verge of ordering from the US but expensive to ship to AUS. What glove alternative do you have in mind?

    • @mowsertas
      @mowsertas  Месяц назад

      I was looking at a few different XTM gloves in an outdoor store recently. Their Loader PVC Waterproof glove looked particularly similar to Temres but without the wrist tightener cord. Worth a look. They also have some other options I am yet to try. Also saw some on the Overland track the other day - a subscriber had purchased some Balaena Toolant gloves for his son and they looked similar to the Temres. He reckoned they were not quite as good as the Temres but worked pretty well and were easier to access in Australia via amazon. They are here: geni.us/icmVCFd
      Will have another glove video coming in the next few months

      @@mowsertas The Balaena Toolant gloves popped up on Amazon today when I searched for the Temres. Only available in Medium but I will keep looking as they look ok. I'm looking forward to the packing video and the Winter Overland Track videos. I purchased a Hyperlite Porter Pack from Adventure Base in Katoomba today. I'm looking forward to getting out there and getting it dirty.
