    • @queertales
      @queertales Год назад

      ArtRage has had this too for a while too, at least on PC, but their mixing tends to get a bit over saturated, going more towards neon green if you mix yellow and blue, so I prefer Rebelle.
      Rebelle 6 (it's up to 6 now) on the other hand, is an amazing program that tends to get a bit overlooked. Their watercolors are the best I've seen with real water simulation, their oils and impasto are really good, and their nano pixel stuff let's you work at a lower resolution while still getting high quality for big prints.

    I've used CSP EX since it was still named Manga Studio and all I can say is that I'm really disappointed by 2.0. I was expecting a major rework of the software to optimize it for high end hardware because it desperately needed that; instead they just held off adding new gimmicky features for a few months then released them all at once to justify the version bump, but in essence it's the same 10+ year old program... The silver lining though is that I discovered Krita and I'm in awe, I'm slowly using it more and more until eventually it fully replaces CSP EX in my workflow.

    • @kbhasi
      @kbhasi Год назад +4

      Ooh! I find that interesting as I share a similar situation.
      Since 2018 (not easy for me to explain but I could), I had considered getting CSP EX after seeing some illustrators I follow talking about the offers for CSP Pro, before reminding myself that I want to use Krita instead as part of trying to stick to using FOSS for content creation, and because it supports desktop Linux (especially distros that use KDE Plasma) even though my main PC currently has Windows.

  • @queertales
    @queertales Год назад +24

    I like that they've added perceptual color blending and the fish eye ruler, but I really wished they would fix the performance of their story mode. Once you get above 30-40 pages, doing any changes to the page order or adding/deleting pages takes ages. In the early stages of the comics process I like to work with rough quick sketches, and often add or remove pages, and when it takes 30 or more seconds just to delete a single page it becomes super annoying to work with, and it just gets progressively worse the more pages you add.

    If you're already paying the subscription on the ipad/Android, you do get the V2 update automatically without any extra charges, which is nice! I assume that's likely gonna be the case for the rest of the Update Pass for ipad/Android.
    Though, I just wish that if they *really* had to go down this route, they could've at least merged the subscription for both the Android/iPad access and the Update Pass on PC ver because so far it seems like you still have to pay both separately which is :/

    I like CSP and use it daily as a professional illustrator and in my animation pipeline
    but this isn't really an update worth calling 2.0.
    just some gimmicks added while there are core issues with the program - an underwhelming text tool (it seposed to be for comics!), the lack of scrubbing for animation, and a 2.5D
    the realistic mixing is nice and the warp text and alignment are essential (and so basic)
    but it's not enough reason for me to feel I need the upgrade and try to understand the confusing pricing system

Using tools to assist in workflow is one thing but using it to cover shoddy skills is another. I am definetly one who did a negative takes on my channel. My main issue is the perpetual model really being an annual upgrade now for one fee. The sub model (update pass) on top of it to get incremental feature updates is where I lost it. Usually, any software you get, comes with the features of that annual release, e.g., 2.1, 2.2. Clip changed the language after the backlash to call then feature "previews." Ironically enough, if you want all the features, at least at this point, the update pass is the cheapest option because you blow right past the perpetual versions. So for professionals, if you are going to pay anyway, you might as well get the update pass and be done with it. The drawback is, if you stop paying, they roll you back to the last perpetual update you got. Just to be clear, I would have paid a one-time fee for an annual model with all features. Its that double dip that got me. Still undecided as to what Im going to do.

  • @Lygon_

    If i'm not mistaken, it's a one off payment for a perpetual licence upgrade from v1 to v2, but after that upgrade, you get 2.1 2.2 2.3 etc up until 3.0, which then requires another payment to upgrade from 2.0 to 3.0. Or if you would like to upgrade from v1 (perpetual) to v2 (subscription), then you can buy the update pass which you pay annually for all future upgrades.

      You will not get any feature update between v2.0 to v3.0. You'll get stability update from v2.0 to v3.0. You'll have all the mentioned features now in v2.0 but the new ones that are being developed and will be implemented afterwards will not be available for you for free. you'll need update pass for it. Those upcoming features will be the default features when the v3.0 comes out after a year or two. Feature update changes the digit after v2.(0).0, stability update changes the last digit v2.0.(0).
      Clip Studio License option is affordable and reasonably priced so I don't think it's a bad implementation. Most of long time CSP users are just so used to get free updates during v1.

Meaning if you buy or upgrade version 1 to version 2 on one computer THATS ALL YOU GET. You CANNOT download it onto another computer UNLESS you either buy it TWICE or sign up for the subscription plans. Personally, I’ve never felt more betrayed and disappointed in anything in my life. I was a kid when Adobe did the subscription transition, but it was EXPECTED. Everyone saw it coming. They left little to nothing to the imagination. They told you flat out what was what. CSP has done some seriously shady, backhanded work with this one. And those “cool new features”? Yea, there’s issues with those too apparently. Some have said that they don’t even get them when the upgrade unless they sign up for the subscriptions. CSP, you’ve really done your loyal customers dirty. 👎👎👎

    but i dont think its worth it for me to get the subscription to get more features, since even though i have been using clip almost every day
    i barely use most of its features (hell i have the full version aka EX and i barely animate on it (i did get it for comics tho which i havent been doing much lately))
    so get it if you so want, i recommend upgrading if you get it for free, but if you use clip in the same way i do (even if you animate and make comics) the new features we currently have are not worth it 60 bucks to upgrade
    and even less 25 bucks a year for new features that will be available later on on 2.0 and fully available on 3.0 (which is promised to be released next year)
    unless you really want a certain feature, or you are certain you will fully use the subscription, i dont recommend getting it ever.

    Question on your Acer ConceptD 3 Ezel pen.
    How do you draw without clicking the buttons on the pen? How do I disable it?
    I can't seem to find it. I just want that whenever the pen comes in contact with the screen, it draws. Not by coming in contact and have to press the button to draw.

      There's no new features. "Uhhhh changing canvas height but diff'ernt" is an excuse to say they didn't add nothing and doesn't deserve to be called a feature any more than Celsys deserves to be charging nearly 300% the price of PRO for it.
      More than likely Celsys didn't want Brad calling their grift.

    it does kind of irk me that there's no way to put a custom head on a body. Like it's not helpful to have a customizable head and a customizable body but no way to use both at the same time. The head doesn't snap onto the body, and moving it manually just makes it clip (no pun intended) through the default head. even a feature to hide the default head would be nice

      I agree. At first I wasn’t sure about the new pricing models and all that; but the more I’ve given it thought, I’ve realized it’s not bad at all! At least it’s affordable! It doesn’t require crazy computer specs, and I can access on whatever platform I choose (Windows and iPad, in my case). That’s a huge one for me, as it doesn’t break my workflow from device to device. And I think that alone makes it worth it 🙂

    They are making the same mistakes as Adobe does with Photoshop. Focusing on gimmicks instead of working on the core of the program. The only thing I really need from this "major" update is auto-saving in the background so I don't get interrupted while painting any more. The rest is too specialized considering the flaws that need to be eliminated on the base functionality. Big brushes still are sooooo slow - hardly usable. No polygon shapes. Rulers being all over the place in functionality. Selections being too restrictive. And so on ...

    • @dioxideuniversal
      @dioxideuniversal Год назад +2

      The mistakes are a feature, not a bug. Making the most money off there just effort is just how capitalism works in siftware, and you can see plainly it's not hurting Adobe in the slightest.

    I've been using CSP for almost 6 years now. It has continually been the best PRODUCT EVER for artists for me. They had that small hiccup.(with the AI stuff) but honestly they bounced back with this HUGE update. The new 3D heads they enabled allowed me to crank out drawing like no tomorrow and the new shading feature can only get better with time. Now, if they update the heads to be able to recreate expressions that would be a GAME CHANGER. It will truly help me be able to focus on composition and eveyrthing else in regards to making my own story!!

    I'm so pissed that they still haven't added GPU acceleration for working in the canvas, any high res brush like a large airbrush performs like dog sh*t, it pisses me off even more that they did use GPU acceleration for this new hand recognition feature, but not for just painting normally on canvas?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Even Krita support GPU acceleration for the brushes, and that app is FREE FFS!!! I got a 4090, and it pisses me off so much that I can't use it basically at all when drawing.
