I still have Dreamcast in my bedroom with over dozen games and fish rod hooked up to an old plasma tv I found for $40 bucks at a thrift store that cost 7k new back in 04’
I legit always get the Gizmondo and Ngage confused. I always think the Ngage was also involved with the mob, and the Gizmondo was a cellphone. They're both trash, so at least I remember that.
They also released the Saturn afterward and I believe that sold even worse, so it wasn't the Dreamcast alone that led to their problems. I loved my Dreamcast. I still have it and about half the games I bought for it back then.
@@collin1240 Saturn came before the Dreamcast. The Saturn also played a large role in Sega losing a lot of good will. Sega of Japan was also very stubborn and wouldn't listen when people from Sega of America were essentially telling them their ideas sucked and it would destroy their PR.
The PS2 was way overhyped in comparison, all those saying it was a supercomputer and such. All things considered, the DC could still do some things better than PS2, and developers only acknowledged that once they had to deal with PS2's exotic architecture.
The Dreamcast, and the Saturn for that matter, felt like Sega resting on their laurels, getting their fanbase to sell the consoles rather than themselves. They underestimated the marketing of Sony, then Microsoft
Dreamcast flopped because Sega jerked around the customers with add-ons to extend the life of the Genesis and an all in 1 that just combined all that into 1 system released as a stop gap at the cost of a new system. Similarly the Wii U wasn't over hyped but failed because of bad marketing not creating any hype. If they had chosen a better name and marketed it then they would have sold more units.
I know I loved the Dreamcast myself. I liked how it was 60 FPS in most games, which was revolutionary at the time. It also introduced me to the world of emulators, which dramatically expanded the game library for it. You could also just burn games on a DVD for free and play them without having to mod the console.
I used to work in the electronics department in one of the big retail stores when the ps4 , x box one and wii u came out. when the ps4 and x box one were released there was a long line to purchase one before the store even opened up. when the wii u came out there were only 6 people waiting outside in line and we had some left over at the end of the day...
I remember the launch titles for the Wii U being so lackluster while PS4 and Xbox One had quite a few really good games like DR3, FM5 for the xbox one and killzone for the PS4.
The funniest thing about the N-Gage is how you actually take calls on it. My friend had it and he returned it within a week because people wouldn’t stop taking the piss out of him.
Due to European PS1 running in 50 hz the games are a bit slower. But they are converted to work with that, so if you don't do a direct comparison, you won't realize it. For their retro box Sony used some open source emulator (without telling anybody) and iso games (as far as I know they even downloaded those iso games from the internet), which led to some mayor compatibility issues.

Does Germany run at 60hz? Though you Americans always use a lower resolution for some reason.. You have 480p back then whilst we rock up to 576p lol just 50Hz instead of 60 so some things ran a little 'slower' but higher resolution...weird, i know! But that's what happens when developers are either lazy or the hardware is cheapened by using the mains cycle as the clock sync/source - make the timing dependent on that, less hardware and code but if you increase the external (or internal clock) like when i've overclocked a Megadrive and an N64, games can run too fast or sometimes crash and not run at all just due to loss of sync (they can't run asynchronously!) which is a similar reason why 'light guns' don't work on modern screens, the CRTs are synced to the same frequency/refresh rate as the video signal so the gun can 'see' where its looking relative to the scan position!
As soon as I first heard of the Wii U my first thought was "Why is Nintendo repeating Sega mistakes with the Dreamcast?" Instead of an overpriced memory card that basically had crappy flip phone games they added a freaking tablet as the main way to play the videogame console! That just made the Wii U too expensive for something that was less powerful that the competition.

@@nekowatt2402 As someone that worked in gamestop during the console generation with the WiiU, XBone, and PS4 I had way more customer's that didn't know what a WiiU was than ones that did. Even the demo stations the store received only showed the tablet controller prominently, and not the console itself. @@lumiereeclair damn that's shitty. It's one thing to be uninformed but it's a whole different world to be uninformed and ignorant. I guess the problem's a combination of a lot of things. During the Wii era Nintendo decided to shift their audience to the general public which worked really well for the Wii, but that also meant that part of the crowd are people who aren't familiar with the gaming industry (such as the fact that new consoles are made per generation) so when the WiiU came out a huge part of Nintendo's market are definitely confused. Then WiiU ain't really different from the Wii, like it's literally just the tablet and a couple new features so of course that will also cause confusion when it comes to advertising it. Another one would be the name itself, WiiU, that does not sound like a new and different console at all and just sounds confusing when it comes to selling it, kinda like the XBoxes. I remember my uncle being super confused with the XBox family bcos of their names. XBox, XBox 360, XBox One and now XBox Series X, like how can a non-tech savvy parent/guardian figure that out? Especially when all the kid says is "I want an XBox."
@@nekowatt2402 Now imagine this, but with the gamestop staff just as uninformed and ignorant. That's the winning combination that has gamestop in it's current financial situation. I'm soo glad I don't work at gamestop anymore, the store I used to work at closed down not long after I left.
I think that is part of the problem, the other part of the problem is it got a stupid name that confused people and didn't get the hype it needed. they should have went with something corny like "Super Wii" or "Wii 2" or something else that would have left no confusion as to what that system actually was.

Dreamcast was a great system with some really great games and was really ahead of its time. So sad that it failed.
That says a lot right there

I have played a PS1 in America and Germany and they seemed the same to me.
Due to European PS1 running in 50 hz the games are a bit slower. But they are converted to work with that, so if you don't do a direct comparison, you won't realize it. For their retro box Sony used some open source emulator (without telling anybody) and iso games (as far as I know they even downloaded those iso games from the internet), which led to some mayor compatibility issues.
great video man you right thought virtue boy was going to make a deep impact like in future they should less down the redness and make more games i remember i was at k mart or zellers electonic dempartment test at it out for demo it was so bad lol like ps4 vr but that little better not enough games for thAT FORMARGEEEE it echoes thew ages lol be safe

There should be a textbook that describes all the strategies and practices that gamestop uses as a warning of how NOT to run a successful business.
