Who else so wished they had a camera in those days so you could realllly see?
me me me
Me.. All the time!
Why do they all look like Pee Wee Herman?
Omg me.
The funny part is..they could have. All the parts were there. We just lacking the knowledge, back then. It wasn't just "well it was old times, the tech wasn't there" Yes and no. It was there, during the caveman age it was too. People are under the thought it never was, we as humans created all this new tech.., as we become more advance. No..the earth will always be far more advance then we have...that is the point. What else do we have under her fingertips/toes we have no idea is a fact..but we just to stupid to see it..That is scary thought..
Catherine Howard was in her teens when she lost her head....errr literally...why do they have her looking so old?
I've seen a third-grade class photo from 1906 San Francisco where the kids looked like they were in their 40's, I shit you not.
They were very unhealthy, I guess.
This was back then ppl looked different and the makeup also made them look more older
Adnilem Rosalez they had makeup back then?
Dephilia 🤦🏽♀️ I’m not even gonna bother
Catherine of Aragon was reddish-blonde & blue-eyed like her mother, Isabel the Catholic Queen. She was from Spain but she didn't resemble Penélope Cruz. Anglo-absurd stereotype of presenting her with dark hair. Great example of this: tv series "The Tudors" or film "The Other Boleyn Girl".
Thank you =)
Spain is the reason why so many Hispanics actually have blonde hair. In Spain the people are actually very Anglo looking. Alot of Hispanics actually look whiter looking than most European whites.
christie osborne "Ruled the world" es cierto (gracias al oro y plata de América), pero la gloria no le duró más que un suspiro, y ya sabemos debido a qué, a la "genialidad" de los españoles jajajajajajajajaja.
Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived.
*but just for you tonight-*
@@kaniisuki we're divorced, beheaded,
LIIIIIVVVVVVEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
@Sue Taft Catherine Parr was the wife & survived when Henry the 8th died making her the widow.
I had six sorry wives and some might say I ruined there liiiivvvess
Am I the only one who thinks that Anne of Cleves could of been survived too. Because unlike cathrine of Aragon she had it pretty simple she got a massive palace and could do anything she wanted
Apart from Jane Seymour, all the wives in this look creepily similar to one another. I think this may be a tad inaccurate.
My thought as well.
I agree. Same nose and even similar mouths.
CrowPowersActivate Part of the problem is that they all look pretty similar in their original portraits as well, probably because people favoured a particular look at the time (small mouths, high foreheads, etc.). Either that or Henry had a type.
True. I imagine it's probably a bit of both.
CrowPowersActivate Yes they do look alike. According to the portraits they were all dissimilar. Still, this must have taken an awful lot of work, and it was fascinating to see. Thank you so much JudeMaris, you have made my day.
Inaccurate. Due to an anglo-saxon trend to always portray spaniards in the stereotyped dark hair and dark eyes, they missed the fact that Catarina de Aragão had, as a matter of fact, blond-reddish hair and blue eyes.
Mauro Mosqueira the series ‘The Spanish Princess’ more accurately depicts Katherine of Aragon.
Oh my, we have someone from the fifteen hundreds that knew Catherine. Yipee!
@@ScreamsBaba Have you heard about a strange thing called history book?
@@mauromosqueira2970 It happened FIVE HUNDRED years ago. Lets all be honest, nobody actually knows what they look like. She just based it off her portaits, not history books. Which is completely fine. If you actually looked at the video you would clearly see based it off their portraits.
@@ScreamsBaba why do I keep wasting my time with uneducated people?
I don't care if he was a king. He was 400 pounds and had rotten sores on his legs. Imagine if that climbed on top of you. I'm surprised these women survived the damn honeymoon. Also the rotting sores stunk. Some things aren't worth it.
Lol!! I agree!!! I would have ran away if I had live like a witch in a cave!! Anything is better than that!
lol well he didn't get that big until the end, he was considered handsome until the 4th wife, but he only lived about 6 more years after that one and he didn't have any children after Jane Seymour, the 3rd wife, so we can only assume he had sex with Catherine Howard, the 5th wife. Catherine Parr, the final wife, was actually thought of more like a sister and he thought Anne of Cleaves too ugly to have sex with. Not to mention, he was King and saying no wasn't an option
street fighter, what's with the anger? You didn't know Henry personally so why call some total stranger a bitch?
Also, Henry did want to be married to Anne of Cleaves from her picture, but it was said she didn't resemble her picture when he met her. Now SHE didn't want to be married to him so she was more than happy to go away
@@sophiamoney4414 Henry's depression was caused by a brain injury he sustained while jousting. Henry's morbid obesity was caused by the fact that he ate more food and drank more champagne for breakfast than most people eat in a week! I mean in a week these days... in those days most people didn't eat that much in a month!
@@moondancer3157 oh i agree im just saying he only got fat after his physical injury and his depression
"Wives" my foot. Each and every one of them was a victim, a victim of an unworthy bloodthirsty savage.
True
Except Anne of Cleves, she became his sister and was provided with a home, title and money to support herself for the rest of her life...Catherine Parr had the fortune to outlive Henry.
@Jeremy Kirkpatrick continues with that fantasy if you wish. The reality outweighs "marriage certificates" he had generated one after another, after another. Look to the conduct of the far-arsed knave, not to so-called "sacrament" into which he entered with unworthy intent.
Natewatl Thank you
I don´t think that Jane seymore and Catherine Parr were a victim
Basically the same face in different outfits. 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️

Agreed
No
laverdadesdura I thought the same, no individuality..
so actually, henry the eighth was an english serial killer, right?
EXACTLY....u GOT 2 B OUT OF YOUR MIND TO MARRY A MAN WHO EXECUTES HIS WIVES. THAT BASTARD SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN DOWN SOON AFTER HE DIVORCED HIS FIRST WIFE. HE WAS A MAN WHORE. HE SHOULD HAVE HAD HIS HEAD CUT OFF FOR SPITE OVER WHAT HE DID. HE WAS A TRUE SERIAL KILLER .I WOULD B ASHAMED TO HAVE ANY CONNECTION TO HIM WHATSOEVER.
No. Typical medieval king. Much less a man whore than his contemporary peers.
Yeah. And he did it legally.
uh no lol
Absolutely!
The Holbein portraits are a better source. These portraits seem to reflect a contemporary esthetic of beauty.
It is widely accepted that Holbien's paintings were the original 'photoshop' in that he purposely rendered untrue visions of people; giving them whatever the fashion of the day was. Paler skin, fat people thin, crooked noses straight, etc...
Henri like many monarchs of the past told the artist how they wanted them to make them look better than they actualy did, as in "don't do much shadow on the face as it made them age, less shadow, more younger they looked, do U realy think that Henri viii would want everyone to see how he realy looked or how he wanted to be seen to look? Thats how it as always been in the past!
Except that he relied on his portrayal of Anne of Cleves to decide whether he should marry her. He should have warned him that for this one, he wanted a more realistic portrait, at least before he married her.
@@chrischerry4967 Just wanting to keep a pay check. Not to mention his head.
There was no plastic surgeons in those days. The surgery had to be done on canvas.
Catherine of Aragon was red-blonde hair and blue eyes, like her mother Isabella of Castile and her great grandmother Catherine of Lancaster (Isabella´s grandmother).
We are talking about the same woman? Catherine Of Aragon´s mother was Isabella I Of Castile, not other...
I like both too :)
+Joseph Carlisle she was a vulgar prostitute and Queen Catherine was real Princess. With an exquisite education who was able to run a battle when Henry was fighting in France.
+Joseph Carlisle they were witness. How can you prove it was false? She was a bad person.
+Carolina Ruiz de Burgos Stop relying on Hollywood movies for your history lesson. Pick up a history book.
Catherine of Aragon had red auburn hair. From what I read, it was quit striking and a beautiful tone.
Lovely. Katherine of Aragon had light colored hair and eyes, though. Also, Catherine Parr was apparently blonde as well. Anne Boleyn's hair and complexion were darker, too.
Catherine Parr was blonde. There is an extant lock of her hair.
Anna of Cleves was blonde as well, they described her as a very tall and blonde woman
Actually, Ann Boleyn had dark Auburn hair.
@@kathleenstoin671 They describe her as The Crow. Blackish hair with almost black eyes.
@@miryamamar5442 Her enemies tried to portray her in the most negative way possible, and black hair was not considered beautiful. Calling her a crow shows the writer was critical of her. The earliest portraits of Anne showed her with dark red hair. Also, the paint colors used in portraits of the time have altered with time and chemical change, perhaps becoming yellowish, so we don't know for certain how dark she really was.
catherine of aragon and jane seymour looks so beautiful
Catherine of Aragon was the most beautiful of them, most tender and charming in her appearance.
Artist recontruction isn't accurate. It's basically opinion. Only facial reconstruction by using a skull is accurate.
Believe it or not, the paintings from that period are fairly accurate already. When King Richard was found in the Leicester car park they used his skull for reconstruction and found that he looked very similar to his portrait, and that was even earlier than the Tudors.
Yes, he was a little fuller faced and younger looking (lines had been added to his portraits) but definitely recognizable.
Turns out the Yorks WERE the good looking family history says they were.
Is it just me or do they look like the same chick 5 x over (with slight differences in hair & eye colour) and one bloke who is the male version of the females?
It looks to me like most of them have the same nose. I know from a friend that noses are difficult in sculls that are recovered and reconstructed due to the fact that the nose is cartilage and not bone.
all looked exactly the same to me face wise.
I was just thinking the same. Is like they were of the same family with very little differences.
resourcedragon Maybe Henry VIII had a type and that would explain why they all look similar .
resourcedragon Catherine and Anne had very different noses. Anne looked terrifying!
Take a look at Hans Holbein’s paintings of the Tudor court personalities. I think they are more accurate.
That hat on Anne of Cleves had a mind and design of its own!
Katherine of Aragon was red-blond and blue eye'd as befit a Visigoth descendant of the Royal Houses of Castile and Aragon.
Contemporary descriptions of Katherine of Aragon say she had blue eyes, blond hair, and very fair skin.
Katherine of Aragon was blond, fair skin, and blue-eyed. She took after her Castilian mother, Isabella of Spain.
...Catherine of Aragon was a blue-eyed redhead. (Shaking head)
Actually it was more strawberry blonde.
Aarchione auburn
Katharine of Aragon- auburn hair
Anne Boleyn- black hair
Jane Seymour- blonde hair
Anne of Cleves- auburn hair
Katherine Howard- auburn hair
Katheryn Parr- blonde hair
I'm shaking my head too.
Breon's World WOW king Henry really did have a type
These reconstructions are marvelous; and the accompanying music which I see you also wrote, adds a lovely luster to this presentation. Well done.
Catherine of Aragon, as many other from the house of Trastamara, had reddish hair and blue eyes.
English history has always been a real love of mine.
The Tudor period especially.
As irony would have it,
fortune blessed Henry,
if he only knew that no male
hier could ever have done more than his daughter
This musical arrangement goes through my head. It's incredible!!!!!
Anne of Cleves was not unattractive however men then as now have different tastes. Henry like small breasted women and Anne was well endowed. She was also revolted with Henry's personal appearance when she first met him. That alone would have been enough to make him dislike her. When she happily agreed to a divorce his attitude to her was far less critical - he bestowed good homes and an income on his 'dear sister' then. She led a happy life in England and was kind to his children - something that cannot be said of Kat Howard.
Stephanie Chazalon Smartest one of Henry's wives except for Catherine of Aragon.
Catherine would have been treated even better had she not been so prideful and pious. Even today, when your spouse doesn't want to be married, it hurts, but you just end up alone with nothing if you keep fighting for something that's not there.
I read that Anne of cleves had scars from variola but the portrait painter was nice enough
@brighidsvoice Yes, at last somebody who speaks the truth about the poor girl. She was the product of an ambitious family
The Howards cousins to Anne Boleyn . She was an innocent and Henry was a dirty old man. The man who knew her before Henry
suffered a terrible death - all vile bastards but that's Royalty for you.
He was revolting. Through and through.
For me, Catherine Of Aragon is most beautifull
Not only a wonderful artist. But a composer/musician too. Bravo, M.A. Ludwig! What an uncommon talent.
I can also admit that i have a very romanticized view of these ladies from all of my history travels through books...the artist did a better job then i ever could! Hazzah!!!
I know they're not all realistic, but they're all so beautiful
They were real people this isn’t none fiction
I want to thank the artist for all the hard work he did in drawing, filling in and finishing the faces of the queens. They all looked lovely. I could almost believe that, except for Jane Seymour, who was very plain and let's just face it and admit it, U G L Y!!! I just don't know why some scientific/historical people don't just unbury them all, take photos of their skulls and what's left of their body skeletons and then use that computer generated program that lets one reconstruct their faces from their skulls. This is the ONLY way we are really going to see what Anne Boleyn looked like and if she was pretty or ugly and the same with all the rest of them. I'm particularly interested in the two Annes, because they were so maligned by Henry and their detractors. I'd also like to see truly what they all looked like, and let's not forget Lady Jane Grey, Elizabeth I and her sister, Mary. Also like to see what Henry Norris, George Boleyn, Francis Weston, Mark Smeaton and William Brereton. Just wish someone would do that so we can finally have some true idea what they looked like.
There's a doc on here somewhere where they used the death and life masks of George Washington, Lincoln, Napoleon, Shakespeare and a few others to do almost just what you suggested. They scanned the masks and used specially created software and cgi effects to bring up extremely lifelike images of what they would have looked like. Lincoln had two life masks, one from 1860, the other 1865, and the amount of aging is unbelievable, they actually think he was rather ill. Washington was shown with and without his false teeth, lol. It was just fabulous, look it up sometime.
Proud Kansan lol Jane was no where near ugly. she was pale and pretty in a soft way and we have historical accounts of that from neutral parties.. Anne's supporters called her plain because she had a boring personality and lacked the mischievous twinkle in Anne's eyes. Plus, Henry refused to bed any ugly women at that time so there is no way he would have chosen her over the 100s of pretty women that were falling all over his feet at court
basboosa, well, everything I read about her, everyone was surprised that Henry chose her to marry. Chapuys, the greatest Anne Boleyn hater even said she wasn't much to look at, and he had nothing to hate since both Catherine and Anne were dead. I've read several books in the past concerning the Tudors and the concensus was that Jane was just beyond pale, and wasn't pretty at all. I also read just not to long ago, which surprised me, and I don't know if I should believe it or not since one has to be careful what one believes, but, whatever it was said that Henry was sort of regretting marrying her when the smoke cleared. But, he loved her for giving him a son, and when she died, he moved on.
+Proud Kansan beyond pale would have been an attribute, the paler (in those days) was the better.
+Proud Kansan I don't think what they considdered to be pretty in those times are what we see as pretty today. Jane may have looked like a model in todays terms.
Amazing portraits and the music fits perfectly!
Catherine of Aragon was as blonde and blue-eyed as her mother, queen Isabela of Castille (the Catholic Queen), Anne of Cleves lacks the acne marks .
Is it just me or did they make Anne of Cleves look like a man in a dress? There was absolutely nothing feminine about the reconstruction except the clothes ..... smh 🤦♀️ LoL.
That style of headdress was very unflattering, it did give her a masculine look.
I think you did the best on Anne Boleyn. She was described as having a swarthy complexion, a wide set mouth, brunette hair (now believed to be dark auburn) & beautiful, black eyes.
Anna's daughter Qween Elizabeth 1 was said she had her mother's black eyes and her father's red hair.
Thank you for being history to life! its about time we have an idea of what these women looked like. thank you. please do some more! x
Beautifully rendered!! I've always wanted to grab my pencils and add definition and shadowing to the faces....but the color rendering allows us to imagine being back in their time, especially watching as the picture slowly starts to show the true features of the late Queens faces... kudos to the artist!!
Katherine of Aragon had red hair..
Sue Harvey She had dark hair actualy & thats from Henry the 8th himself in a letter to her while they had been courting! So there! Thsts that & proof is in her husbands letters to her 500 yrs ago!
+Trading Post
Where?
just determined to show the world you are ignorant, huh? grow up
Sue - yes she did. And she had blue eyes. (sorry to revive this thread)
Spain has and had quite a variety of of hair/eye colors. It is in Europe.
Even Hernan Cortés had red hair and blue eyes. That's why the Aztecs welcomed him as Quetzalcoatl returned.
Trading Post - Catherine of Aragon was a red-head. Since she was a royal princess of Spain - Her Royal Highness Infanta. So there are multiple portraits of her in her early years, and all show red hair. Spain is in Europe and many Spaniards show European features. Here's a link to her portraits:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_of_Aragon
She was a fascinating woman, and carried herself with the dignity as the Royal she was.
Catherine of Aragon was blonde and blue eyed
nope she was not she was a brunette and brown eyes from spain
Not everyone from Spain is dark-haired.
TheSageNabooru right you are, actually catherines people were visigoths, the ruling class of spain at that time, therefore she would appear more Nordic than mediteranean...
rebecca trafford Catherine was of a very fair complexion, had blue eyes, and had a hair colour that was between reddish-blonde and auburn like her mother and sister Joanna. During her lifetime she was described as "the most beautiful creature in the world" and that there was "nothing lacking in her that the most beautiful girl should have." Thomas More and Lord Herbert would reflect later in her lifetime that in regard to her appearance "there were few women who could compete with the Queen [Catherine] in her prime.
***** There are many books around that describe Catherine as having a fair complexion and reddish (strawberry) blonde hair yet she is nearly always portrayed as having darker features in drama's,its stereotypical casting Marcos. She is usually played as an extremely pious woman ,which she was,but she was also well read, intelligent and a keen needlewoman too...she embroidered and sewed shirts for Henry.
Stunning...Plus music ..Gorgeous
Amazing stuff..very good work
Apart from Jane Seymour the rest of the women looked very similar on the artists take on them
Jane Seymour looked pale and sickly,
She was the only one with a different name.
Since Holbein was notorious for flattering his subject, Imagine what Jane Seymour really looked like. A very weak chin in his portrait!
All beautiful
I guess most of them look similar because most were related, except for Catherine of Aragon and Anne of Cleves. Anne Boleyn was Katherine Howards aunt or something, and the Culpeppers, Seymours, Howards and Boleyns were the closest families related to the Tudors and often had Tudor blood and well, other families blood. The Seymours and Howards had a relatinship similar to that of the two Lancaster families of The War of the Roses.
Anne and Katherine were cousins!
So, he must have luved the name Catherine...
Beautiful women, wonderful job and gorgeous music ! !
Thanks for the time spent, they are lovely paintings ...
The piano .. is beautifully composed .. very delicate
They are all beautiful.🌹
I love watching these - could you do one of Isabella of Castille? Also Blanche of Lancaster? The white duchess?
Those would be fun to see!
Keep them coming!!
I don't think these portraits re very accurate. They don't mimic any of the portraits of these women or follow any of the contemporary descriptions of them. I think more research should have been done.
Wow. Most of them were beautiful ❤️❣️❣️
All those beautiful ladies, putting up with Henry’s tyranny.
Absolutely fascinating! I kind of like this portrayal of Anne of Cleves. Not a bombshell but not ugly, either. I always thought she was misjudged by Henry. She wasn't accustomed to English court life and he was offended by it. At least, that's in what I've read, anyway.
I've read that Henry had a difficult time... uh... performing when he married Anne of Cleves and the marriage was never consummated. His interest moved on to the next wife (Katherine Howard, I think?) so he annulled the marriage (it's convenient to be the self-proclaimed head of your own church LOL) and pursued/married K.H. Still, you never know if what you read online is true, so take it with a grain of salt. :)
That's usually the reason that historians think he divorced Anne. But, he probably didn't want to admit it. I also read somewhere that she was brought up in an extremely sheltered household so she was probably petrified on their wedding night. Those combined, Henry had to find a reason to be rid of her so he blamed her and said it was her appearance and not the fact that he was an ill, fat, old man.
NerdWriterGirl1984 That makes perfect sense.
***** That's what I've heard. He called her his sister.
I heard since Henry was raised around his mother and sisters, he adopted the Tudor, feminine ideal that marriage was for love. He had loved his first 3 wives when he married them but Anne of Cleves was more arranged
And my favorite one is Anne Boleyn...Well well well...
But I don't think this work is reliable.
However, they have quiet the same look ! Bof .
I did like the portrait of Catherine Howard, because whether it was accurate or not, it did make her look like what she was; a teenaged trophy wife whose wishes in the matter were irrelevant.
That was lovely! I actually enjoyed that. Thanks!
Just watched a documentary that describes Cathrine as a blong-haired Spainard. The Tudor's will forever give my imagination a eye-full.
Like everyone else is stating, Catherine of Aragon had red-blonde hair, and blue eyes. I also thought Anne of Cleves had light hair and light eyes also?
She was dark - she wore a blonde wig.
Mandy Baldwin Oh okay wow I did not know that!
AnneARcTiCa Yep! that's one of the things Henry didn't like about her. She reminded him of Anne Boleyn in that way. All his other wives were pale and red-haired to some degree. Oh - and he couldn't get it up. Which of course, was her fault. :-)
Mandy Baldwin Of course it was her fault.. he was King, he was never to blame. No matter what. Even though she didn't look like a "flanders mare" at all. She was beautiful!
AnneARcTiCa She was! Holbein's portrait shows this - and he was a very honest portraitist. There is also a porttrait of Anne's sister - just as beautiful. The fact was, Hentry by this time was like every fat, bloated rich megalomaniac to this day - couldn't get it up unless titillated by the very young and silly. Hence he married poor little Katherine Howard, who was 17, sweet-natured and dim-witted.
Anne boleyn was said to have dark piercing eyes and soft dark coloured hair so this should be correct
She is my ancestor
@@nicholasbullenwwe6842 that’s cool! Are you related to her sister Mary? Because Mary Boleyn had lots of kids and is still well known to have many descendants in England. She wouldn’t really be an “ancestor” though, she never had any living children outside of Elizabeth
They are all beautiful!
wow amazing drawing skill! i am interested in henry's six wives and the tudor fashion those days, i wish one day i could also have my own version of those ladies or maybe draw a comic/manga about them!
Katherine of Aragon was a strawberry blonde....sort of reddish blonde. Where did you do you research for these portraits?
Henry had a type
Amazing! Not only did the artists (including Holbein and Horenbout) who were contemporary with these women not know how they looked, but they were also unaware that all six women looked alike! Unbelievable!
This is so nice!!
Charlotte Low-Anne Boleyn was Catherine Howard's cousin, not her aunt. Anne's mother was a Howard and sister to Catherine's father.
Ann Boleyn's mothers maiden name was Butler. My fathers family trace back to her.
April Reeves : I don’t know where you got that information from, But Anne Boleyn’s mother’s Maiden name was Elizabeth Howard. Hence her strong ties with The Duke of Norfolk.
All have the same eyes and nose. It’s said an artist always paints themselves unconsciously in every piece. Curious what the artist looks like.
I recently visited the tower of London and was in awe of Henry's engraved suit of armour and how tall he must have been.. the tour guide on the day said that he was well over 6ft in height (tall for his time I guess) and when he was in his 30's he was a strikingly handsome and charismatic man.. but we only see him as the Holbein portrait we all universally recognise today!
+Terry Mastriantonio "Well over 6ft in height"- I just watched another documentary where they said he was 6ft 1"! Still, the average height for a male in Tudor times was 5ft 6" so he was certainly physically remarkable for his day.
Lovely music and beautiful paintings!
Catherine, Anne, Jane, Anne, Catherine, Catherine. What a variety of wives!
Lol I guess he only married three wives, Catherine, Anne and Jane
That's the times for you, they just didn't tend to use as much variety in names. A lot of the women were Catherine, Anne, Jane or Mary, with the occasional Margaret, Elizabeth or Dorothy. The men tended to be Thomas (so many men called Thomas!), Edward or Henry, with the odd George, William, John or Richard. You do sometimes get an unusual name, but they were much more conventional than we are in naming.

Kara Moore that's been around for years I learnt it at school long, long before horrible histories.
Thank you. Yes. Horrible Histories is a fun show.
"The Face"? Grammatically incorrect and annoying title, and yes, they all look suspiciously similar.
"they all look suspiciously similar." Maybe that's why "Face" isn't plural. :)
He was in constant pain from some kind of an injury (No painkillers in those days) he would have been unable to exercise , causing weight gain, bad moods and as their was little to no medical knowledge, it sounds like it became badly infected causing a bad smell, but since people rarely washed in those days it would have been one smell among many (As one queen said " I have a bath once a month whether I need it or not")
By this video ( exept Jane Seymour of course)-they all look pretty similar or even same to me. And half of them was named Catherine
everyone looks like Catherine of Aragon.
Not Anne Boleynn.
Katherine of Aragon had reddish blond hair and grey eyes according to contemporary docs.
***** She was considered as untypical spanish woman. She wasn't really dark or taned and indeed, she had reddish hair and grey eyes.
***** She was a Hapsburg, from the same House as the Austrian royal family. She had red hair. So did all his wives except Anne Boyeyn and Anne of Cleves (who had dark hair and wore a blonde wig.)
Spaniards and Italians can be blonde, believe it or not.
+jlalewicz
Keep in mind the Habsburgs were the most powerful house in Europe. The Habsburgs ruled Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, a portion of Italy, Austria, and a huge chunk of Germany. Understandably nobles and royals from other locations intermarried and Catharine was one of the few Spanish royals around this period not to be heavily inbred.
James Repstock I think its Hapsburg.
Muy bonito! Gracias
the woman who had flipped england upside down, and played with the king's heart for seven long years must be so beautiful

Catherine of Aragon had light hair (Like strawberry blonde) and fair complexion...did the artist not do their research? Why does she have dark hair??
I really feel for these beautiful ladies. It's must have been hell on Earth to be married to such an evil tyrant like Henry VIII, God rest their souls.
The last wife especially. At least Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn had him when he was younger and looked good. He then became fat and ugly and had a sore that smelled so bad the people could smell the stench 3 rooms away. Imagine the size of those rooms in the castles.
Beautifully done..Thank you
Beautiful!
Wives of Henry VIII, not a good thing for them.
Horrible reconstruction. Not accurate!! Everyone knows that Catherine of Aragon was a red-blonde and blue eyed!!
Yep, Catherine of Aragon looked like her mother except for the reddish coloring (her mother was dark blonde). Her hair was a gorgeous red-blonde with large blue eyes and very petite but not thin. She got fat with all those pregnancies and seemed to have lost her looks early.
Also, the English hood is wrong - it would have completely covered the hair. Married women did not show their hair until Ann Boleyn made the French hood popular in the mid 1520s or so. And Jane Seymour here looks a whole lot better than she did in the famous Holbein portrait, which is the only one I have ever seen. Are there others painted during her life out there someplace? I always thought she was described in the diplomatic dispatches as at best "plain."
James Curtis How can anyone know what colour hair someone had 500 yrd bk? even if some did not everyone does as You claim & no one does as she was known as the blond horse faced queen!😅
+Elanore Jean Anne Boleyn is said to have been half as beautiful as Catherine was when she had her age; But the natural abortions and Stillbirths as well as aging; made her rather fat. Anne Boleyn is said to be a handsome lady but a bit strange with six fingers in one hand and a large wen in some part of her neck. While Jane was often called "Plain Jane" since she wasn't any great beauty but she was known for her calm temperament, and submissive nature.
Except they've dug up her skeleton, she had 5 fingers on each hand. The rumors about her supposed deformities didn't come around until decades later, designed to besmirch her character and give credence to the idea that she'd made the king marry her via witchcraft.
Henry was a devout man, he wouldn't marry someone with 6 fingers, since that would be seen as a sign of evil and he would've been scared shitless.
Anne also wasn't the prettiest woman, no doubt, but she was probably one of the smartest and really sexy.
I just read "The Other Boleyn Girl" by Philippa Gregory (a VERY excellent book -- I couldn't put it down!!) and you've helped me to get the faces of Henry's wives into my head. Very nicely done!!!!
Lovely. The music too😍
Anyone know what the background music is called?
Katherine of Aragon had Red hair and Blue eyes.
6piercingqueen6 wrong, she was blonde, Henry, Mary and Elizabeth had red hair
Mary didn't, she had brown hair! only Henri & Elizabeth had red hair! Thats one of the reasons she was so popular in contemporary England, She had her farthers red Tudor hair! but she had her mothers dark eyes!
Trading Post sucheternaldelight.wordpress.com/2010/06/25/where-did-the-tudor-red-gold-hair-come-from/ Elizabeth of York, Henry VIII, Mary I, and Elizabeth I all had red hair. If you look at the pictures of Mary I she has red hair just like her farther and Sister, she usually has a cover on it, but the pictures of her with her hair showing, her hair is clearly red.
Mary as adult had brown hair, Elizabeth was named by queen Anne after Henry's mother' Elizabeth of york, Mary as queen wasn't a pretty Woman & the Spanish nobels actualy commented on her saying that "aside of her ungainly looks she was a pious Woman who dressed badly," & her spanish husband had to be very tactfull as he found her physicaly "not to his liking," he spent most of his marriage to her 'away in spain! He had his Women & rarely came to England to visit her for those reasons, Mary wasn't young like Elizabeth when she took the thrown & at nearly 40 in those days it would show! Prince Philip loved her not, in fact he loved her sister 'Elizabeth more than he did Mary, as she was only 21.As soon as queen Mary died, he started to try to get Elizabeth to think on marrying him, of cource she wouldn't marry a catholic prince but she was ecstreamly intelegent & spoke Latin, French, Spanish, Italian & Greek! None of the Tudors could speak so many languagies & Henry was very proud of her interlect! She was also concidered very atractive & didn't loose her hair at 28 or near it yet she had her light red hair, but later on as she got older it did go thin & she wore wigs as was common in those days anyway! She nearly died in 1561 but pulled through with nought but some spots which were covered up easily untill they were hardly visable, Elizabeth the 1st has gone down as Englands best & most famous Monarch, even today dramas & movies have been made of her aplenty, not one has been made of the "Unknown Tudors, Mary & Edward the 6th of whome few know who he is, ask any layman who Edward the 6th is & see how they know not! Mary is only known because of that unfortunate name given her after the Tudor dynasty ended! In 12 yrs we had 4 monachs but it was only the last Elizabeth 1st that stayed on the thrown for 45 yrs from 1558 to 1603!👑
6piercingqueen6 no Catherine had blonde hair
M.A.Ludwig has managed to make a set of faces that show such small variation they cannot possibly be accurate.
They look gorgeous
