Before the game I was hoping that we could try to hold the gap at around 20 points, and they did well in the first 2 half...
I think this is the 1st time Vietnamese have witnessed the real power of Gilas since we do not care much about basketball in the previous Seagames, but the sport is getting more attention now.
And hopefully one day I could see Vietnam put up a better fight against Philippines, King of Asean and a powerhouse in Asia's basketball.

I'm Vietnamese and I will say this: Us Vietnamese have a long way to go before we beat the Philippines at basketball, this is the Philippines' national sport.

Coach Tim Cone really teaches team plays that can be an advantage against international teams soon. We witnessed in the past FIBA games that we cannot rely on "streetball" or isolation type of plays. Basketball is a TEAM sport. Coach Tim Cone's playbook can bring us further in future tournaments.

Avid basketball fans know team Philippines is a traditional dominant basketball power in Asean region.

The way Vietnam played especially in the second half is how the Philippines played during the last FIBA Cup.
They collapsed. If they just kept it up, they wouldn't lose by more than 15.

Vietnam's starting five got tired in the 2nd half. Their bench isn't deep, so they got no help. Unlike Gilas who has a solid 12 player lineup. Vietnam will probably get even better in the coming years.

@@kimeli May not be as crazy as Filipinos in basketball but my basis is on their basketball program coz they now have a professional league, the VBA, and some of their players participate in the ABL. These leagues will attract Viet-foreigners to play ball in their country and the VBA will expose more Vietnamese to basketball.

Team Vietnam played very well. Very professional. Watching the game, and how Vietnam seems to make shots and drill 3 pointers, I didn't expect that the score difference would be that high. We Filipinos should be wary of Vietnam in basketball. The Philippines was very cautious to prevent an upset on home soil so they fielded an all-star team.

Gilas needs to run more offense on Aguilar. They run alot of individual plays. They need to push the ball down high low, and alternate. China, japan and other asian countries are scouting their game.
