I dont approve of that. The game isnt over til its over. It is ethical to still play defense and stop them from scoring even if youre down by 9 otherwise you just accepted defeat. Its obvious Gilas team defense is tentative, this only proves that lack of preparation and good system wont work in international competition, PBA style of coaching and system does not work in international level, plus I dont believe that Reyes has the ability to stir Gilas to higher level. Tab Baldwin or similar system could be a better fit, defense and ball movement is key which is not evident in Gilas game. SBP and PBA are not really helping levelling up basketball program in the country.
Coach Tim Cone should take the helm 🙏 hindi lang galing ng players ang kelangan sa basketball, utak at diskarte din ng Coach.

We need to accept...Gilas is not yet ready for International competition. We need longer preparations. We will never be embarassed if only we played the game well and won.
Gilas or PH team wont fully develop because the competition in the PBA is not high due to the fact that we dont allow foreign players with the exception to some conferences where the league allows one import per team. Imagine if the NBA or Euroleauge only allow players within their nationality or continent.

We all know the timeout is an unspoken rule for being sportsman-like. But what the Cambodian coach did was just too obvious to rub it in Gilas' faces their loss. Its expected whoever the opposing team would definitely react.
To begin with, the Philippines started the practice of naturalizing players in the 1980s. Second, this loss will live in infamy or public disgrace since this Gilas squad, which is already an organized basketball club equipped with the top PBA players, was trounced and humiliated by a team created perhaps a week before the game started. Gilas, in my opinion, should atone for this heinous crime.

It's a very costly loss. Basketball has caused the failure of grassroots movement of our youth in other sports especially athletics. The most athletic youngsters were recruited by basketball weakening other sports. We have placed all our eggs in only one basket and now that basket is deteriorating. Our country was once a power in the region in athletics. In 1983 SEA Games, 32 medals including 11 golds were won by the Philippines. Today, only 4 gold medals are won in Cambodia. So sad.

Too many issues were evident from the get go of this SEAG hosting; court is not even an appropriate venue for such international sports event, score board needs fixing, referees questionable calls, and etc. Gilas could’ve just ditched this and focus on FIBA.

Cambodian coach is not a member of the asean countries. Why the players react is because cambodian host paid the naturalized player. Showing off his ability to the referries also follow him.
