    I always found the scene with Arthur Londenderry to be quite interesting. To find him, Arthur has to go into the "Pit" as in the "Pit of Hell" which Arthur himself says several times is where he is heading. There he meets a man who laughs at him almost as if he was some sort of Satanic character. And finally, after so long wrestling with the two sides of his nature he finally choses to do the right thing and not only forgives the debt but actually gives her money. He then throws Strauss out which is somewhat symbolic of Arthur seeing clearly for really the first time who and what they are and acting on it. As others have said so many times, what an amazing story. Great channel.

      He got the ending that he deserved as tragic as it was. His life caught up to him just as he was reaching that moment of redemption. One that he wasn’t able to live out. He was redeemed in a way.
      Another thing to take away from this is that the character & his demise, as far as video games history goes, is going to be one that is remembered. At least for me.
      You knew at some point he was going to die while you played him but there was always that hope in the back of your minds that you’d get swerved, RS would let you redeem him and have him grow old on a nice ranch.
      But no, we reached the end with him and only we were allowed to continue on.
      But we got to see him accept what he was & he knew if he had another life to live, he’d do it differently.
      That was the redemption part, for me at least.
      Bottom line, it’s a game that makes me remember it.
      We need more of those games.

    I've always felt like Arthur kicked Strauss out for his own good. At least, that's what I'd like to think. By that point Arthur had begun to realize how the gang, how Dutch, had corrupted everyone there. That scene was heart-wrenching (Hell, most of this game is) and I've always felt like Arthur was more angry with himself over letting everything happen more than he was directly at Strauss. Sure, he died in the end, but he died a loyal friend and member of Dutch's gang. Despite everything that happened he didn't rat on any of them...not even Arthur. Again, personal opinions and viewpoints, but I feel like Strauss knew what and why Arthur did what he did.

    • @einzelganger6664
      @einzelganger6664 2 года назад +38

      You're making two different points here at once and explaining only one of them. That Arthur kicked Strauss out for his own good and that Strauss knew why Arthur kicked him out. The latter doesn't make any sense, especially considering when it happens his protesting and even literally asking "what/why are you doing this???"
      Also, you missed the point of Strauss' "arc", If it can be called that. Strauss got "redemption" (again, if you can call it that) too by not ratting despite being tortured and even died loyal. The point was that redemption is a funny thing, and can come in many forms but that it always comes with some sort of price.

    • @luciusmodesto9163
      @luciusmodesto9163 2 года назад +21

      I agree with this. Strauss definitely didn't want to be kicked out, in fact he explicitly appeals to Arthur as his friend. As for Arthur and Strauss' feeling about the gang's future at that point, I think both knew it was all going to shit but still trying to make the best of it so sure, Arthur may not be directly mad at Strauss as a person, but on Strauss' part, he was probably more hurt that Arthur "ended their friendship" and scapegoated him when he was only doing his part for the gang, just like Arthur and Dutch robbing and killing folk, and throughout the main story he seems to have hardly interacted with Dutch so he might be closer to Arthur within the gang, which is why he could only say to Arthur "You know, they say the sick delude themselves." From personal experience it's real hard to deal with a friend suddenly being so harsh towards you and shaming you in front of everyone else. Strauss not breaking down or getting mad shows his loyalty to Arthur and his confusion that Arthur made him the scapegoat over the other problematic characters in the gang (hence he thinks Arthur is "deluded"). So no, Strauss most likely didn't know what Arthur was doing. On Arthur's part I would also say he wasn't doing this for Strauss' good, he and Hosea mentioned in various parts of the story that no one lasts long out in these parts by themselves, which sadly is exactly what happened to Strauss.

  • @captainrogers3849

    I personally see it as windows into the past and the future for Arthur. The first debtor represents Arthur's past regrets, and shows him what life could have been life if he had left the gang for Mary. Arthur Londonderry represents Arthur's future, and the future of his "family" (the gang). Both Arthurs gave everything they had for their families and it eventually killed them both. Arthur Londonderry's family represent the people that Arthur is going to leave behind, and that mission helps him realize that all he can do at this point is try to make sure the people he loves will be alright without him.

    Beyond these parallels, which are undoubtedly interesting and fascinating, I want to say that these scenes always move me a lot. Arthur Morgan is a very successful character and, as I've always thought since playing this game for the first time, Red Dead Redemption II is a masterpiece.

    Excellent video man. Finding more reasons to love this game more than I already do. Something about the scene at 6:35 when the boy runs out and Arthur turns his head the way he does hits me the hardest out of all the other things in this video

    It reached the point where I have to hide it cuz it's getting embarrassing.

    I can't with this game I swear.

    I also felt Weathers’ name isn’t a coincidence too, being John. It’s a nice quick foreshadowing of Arthur helping a well intended man named John and his wife (pregnant) escape from a no win situation.
    Two young families and Johns saved from pursuers while their camp/wagon burns.
    God bless this masterpiece of a game 😢

    "I'm..."
    "Leaving!"
    This is such a chad line from Arthur, the fact that there is no delay whatsoever between Strauss starting a sentence and Arthur interrupting him and finishing the sentence is so great.

    I always associate the John Weathers mission to John Marston. How Arthur “should have helped him” and when he’s given the chance to actually do it, it’s no longer an option.
    Personally, it feels more right to have the John Debt correlate to John, and the Arthur one for Arthur.

    I actually think the native woman and thr deserter have a more direct parallel to Arthur helping John and Abigail at the end. He helps them free from a life that is on fire (like the camp at Beavers Creek). Arthur and Mary's relationship and tragedy is his motivation: to give John and Abigail what he cannot have.

    How any other content creator on this game “thinks” they compare to the quality of content over a game that’s just that “A game” blows my mind. You do The Best job, while not having to speak a word…this is what I expect from a content creator over a video game. Arthur Morgan can’t be compared to any other protagonist, he is the most beloved character of all time. Thank you for your work and I hope the best to you, for your future.
