This Move Changed My Ball Striking

  • Once I figured this out I became a much better striker of the golf ball. Swing plane was never really brought to my attention then I discovered it and found a way to use it to make me better at golf. The move changed my ball striking and now I share my finding with you.

Well Steve this certainly did change my ball striking!…went out today to play 18 holes at my home course and was blown away. This really simplified my swing. Hit all but one fairway with the driver(and long) and hit 13 of 18 greens in regulation…my word, if my putter had been working as well I would’ve possibly had my best score ever🎉😊. I can’t thank you enough for this gem of a lesson. Cheers from Nova Scotia MikeR. ( I've been telling all my golfing friends to get over to your channel, and learn from you as well. )

My hands were very high, lime above my ear high. Had a very steep swing. Saw some of your videos a couple months ago and changed my swing. This really did help me. I have to work on club face control but i’m now striking my irons consistently. Gonna start implementing this into my driver swing. Thanks for your videos

Another top video clip. Mr Hogan was a genius, of course......he knew so much about what works and why....and Steve pays plenty of tribute in many clips. This is about Steve and his way....helping so many understand concepts necessary to appreciate the power of the golf swing. Optimum force applied correctly. John Jacobs (another giant in instruction) often referenced power as of no use unless applied correctly. Steve is today's go to for understandable, relatable and useful advice. The dinner plate/sheet of glass diagram in Mr Hogan's book showing plane of swing, and how you never break the glass , staying below , or on it , is this concept. Brought to life, in motion, by Steve. Brilliant.👌

Power is no use unless applied correctly. Having clubhead speed of 100mph around 12 inches before impact and having 100mph clubhead speed at impact is just no good. Club travelling at 100mph with zero acceleration…..pointless 👍👍

Steve - this video is a nice follow up on the driver video you put out a few days ago that covered
basically the same movement (hands lower and around). I took that to the range yesterday and hit it better than I have ever done with not only the driver, but every club. Absolutely amazing. Why haven't you told us this before! :) Tom in San Francisco

I’ve only been actively golfing for about two years. I’ve struggled with topping, thinning and just plane not being comfortable with my setup and swing. As soon as I finished watching this I went out to the yard to try this out. I’ll be darned if it didn’t feel way better and even though I was not hitting any balls, I could tell my swing path was inside to out. I’m a victim of paralysis of analysis but this made so much sense that I had to try it out. I truly do enjoy how you present your teaching points. Keep up the great work. Sincerely, An American Fan.

I think most of us raise our arms in the backswing because 1) we know the swing plane is TILTED down, and 2) we swing DOWN to the ball (thus think, “to hit down, swing UP on the backswing)
But “swinging LOW (around the shoulders) makes a lot of sense.
Going to take some practice to ingrain, but
… I’m definitely going to try to keep my arms down and BEHIND tomorrow when I play.
I’m a’scared of the results, but … I’ll try anything after the way I played Monday 🙄

Looks like some great shots there Steve. Can I ask you though......looking at your swing in slow motion, you are significantly under the club shaft plane on the way back, and your club head is behind the hands in the early backswing. So much teaching nowadays is "hands in club head out" and keep the club head "on the plane line" on the way back which for most of us that suck it in and under feels like a really early and aggressive hinge up of the wrists putting the shaft kind of between the arms at P2-3. Should we really care about any of that, or, is there something about your swing, or flexibility or something (very likely skill!!), that allows you to hit it so well demonstrating what you are talking about in this video? Keep up the good work!

You are one of my favorite RUclips instructors. OK, got that out of the way. I have tried this move with the hands more around with not great results. Big pulls/hooks/ pushes. I am wondering if it is because like Rory's swing at min 1:17 while his hands do go around, the shaft is not lying flat but is quite upright, - with the butt of his club pointed well inside the ball. Your thoughts?

Steve, Excellent as always. With the Eureka golf swing is the face of the club square to the red(outside) cane or square to the white ( target line) cane. If the red cane I hit it mostly along the line of the red cane, i.e. to the right of the target. How do I fix that? Love your instruction. Now mostly in the mid 80s using you tips. :-)

The area I need clarification on is the "open" stance that you promote via the Eureka swing method. In this video, it does not look at all as though your stance is open when swinging the 7 iron or the driver. Am I missing something or do you not always choose to use an open stance?

And I was taught that you basically had to choke yourself with your bicep... But I've been swinging more like this the last few years because I'm old and everything hurts, sometimes I tend to come a little bit inside too much, but that's when I get tired. It's easier to swing this way, and to really get distance I think with the driver I will usually tee it up even a little further out front like instead of at my heel, which is that about 45° to the target, I'll have it somewhere in the instep or where the arch is. You pick it up there with this swing and you could really hit it a long way, even a geezer like me.
