I honestly am in awe of your motivation to learn, and to be able to push yourself the way that you do. Art block can be such a killer sometimes. Here’s something I learned watching this channel, kinda related to being scared to create: Your sketchbook is a journey, it’s where you have your best and worst artworks. I now never ever ever rip something out or anything like that when I’m not satisfied; I just try again! So yes, there’s gonna be a lot of ugly drawings in it, because it’s your sketchbook, but no, that’s not a bad thing, it makes it easy for you to create and get better eventually!
I just started taking my first intermediate art class two weeks ago. After the first day, my confidence and inspiration shrunk to nothing! Last night I found a youtube artist who explained the subject in a different way and made it look so much easier to try again. Thank goodness for such an awesome artist community here! Just wanted to say thanks for posting this video, even if you didn't necessarily like the end result!! I remember mixing it during a painting class near the end... then me, my friend and this other girl in my class were all using it at the same time... we were all like: "Why couldn't you have mixed it sooner?" ;D
In animation they always tell us to re-enact the motion or gesture we’re struggling with so that we can better understand where the weight is (using a mirror also helps loads). Another tip I heard was to do exactly what you did, but intentionally. That it’s good to make a few studies from life, but then when you’re doing your “final pass” you should put away your references and draw from memory, it allows for exaggeration, focus, and better flow.
Okay I just want to chime in here to say a huge thank you 🙏 18 months ago my husband and I went through a pretty scary time where we almost lost our baby before we even got to really meet her and I have been suffering with the trauma of that ever since and slowly it consumed me and came to a head just over a month ago where I had to go on antidepressants and often though about hurting myself and felt worthless. So I decided I along with therapy needed an outlet and turned back to drawing. I was having trouble discovering my own style and then found you and have been watching your old videos and you make art feel so freeing and give me the ability to draw and create without pressure and have so much fun with it. As a result I can feel my mental health improving every time I sit down with a pencil and sketch. Thank you waffles❤️ you have given new life to an old passion of mine❤️❤️❤️
As an Artist we must create. Sometimes the results are simply horrible but we can be our own worst critic. If you “feel blocked” you must DO Something! I often switch mediums. Going from drawing to painting, painting to pottery! Switching disciplines can free your mind or even give you new ideas for a different direction back on that drawing you were stuck on! I felt that you were doing your best to overcome your feelings of being “blocked” and it looks like it worked for you! WTG Rin! A video in the bank and once again you WoW your viewing audience, we your fans/subscribers thank you!

The way I see it, there is no true failure in art. I am, what is art to start with? Most people will say it is a way of expression. Well, even if your "color blob" (which I really liked, to be honest!) did not satisfy you, it still definitely has a lot to express. It could easily be considered a different style. A different way to approach those shapes that you've been drawing over and over again. And that's super cool! Seriously, Rin. We all have those moments when we just don't like what we are creating. As a writer and an artist, I get that A LOT. But later, when I get back to whatever I was doing, I always manage to find things that I like about it. I'm sure you'll come to find those things in these drawings, too. Most importantly, keep on creating! That's how we get over those annoying "blocks". Thanks for being so real and sharing everything with us! Your channel is definitely my current favorite! ♥
This is such a great exercise for art block and also shows how sketching and thumb nailing is essentially problem-solving. With every sketch you learn something new or try something different and that's one of the things that I really love about your videos - that you share the whole process from idea to finished painting! Also is your mechanical pencil a rOtring? I'm trying to find it on Amazon and the rOtring looks the closest to yours lol

I was in a giant art block a while back, and I just COULDN'T draw. I tried and tried but I just couldn't, and I felt like my art was super bad! Then I discovered Rin... I appreciate that you are showing your work that you aren't proud of. I remember when I first started art it felt like all my idols made good art all the time when no artist can. The art you are doing is honestly amazing even in your down times.

I love what she achieves in 5 minutes... if you looked at my just started drawings (so they have 5ish minutes of work) they look like a mash of weird overlapping triangles that could never shape a body

In animation they always tell us to re-enact the motion or gesture we’re struggling with so that we can better understand where the weight is (using a mirror also helps loads). Another tip I heard was to do exactly what you did, but intentionally. That it’s good to make a few studies from life, but then when you’re doing your “final pass” you should put away your references and draw from memory, it allows for exaggeration, focus, and better flow.

Okay I just want to chime in here to say a huge thank you 🙏
18 months ago my husband and I went through a pretty scary time where we almost lost our baby before we even got to really meet her and I have been suffering with the trauma of that ever since and slowly it consumed me and came to a head just over a month ago where I had to go on antidepressants and often though about hurting myself and felt worthless.
So I decided I along with therapy needed an outlet and turned back to drawing. I was having trouble discovering my own style and then found you and have been watching your old videos and you make art feel so freeing and give me the ability to draw and create without pressure and have so much fun with it. As a result I can feel my mental health improving every time I sit down with a pencil and sketch. Thank you waffles❤️ you have given new life to an old passion of mine❤️❤️❤️

As an Artist we must create. Sometimes the results are simply horrible but we can be our own worst critic. If you “feel blocked” you must DO Something! I often switch mediums. Going from drawing to painting, painting to pottery! Switching disciplines can free your mind or even give you new ideas for a different direction back on that drawing you were stuck on! I felt that you were doing your best to overcome your feelings of being “blocked” and it looks like it worked for you! WTG Rin! A video in the bank and once again you WoW your viewing audience, we your fans/subscribers thank you!

The way I see it, there is no true failure in art. I am, what is art to start with? Most people will say it is a way of expression. Well, even if your "color blob" (which I really liked, to be honest!) did not satisfy you, it still definitely has a lot to express. It could easily be considered a different style. A different way to approach those shapes that you've been drawing over and over again. And that's super cool! Seriously, Rin. We all have those moments when we just don't like what we are creating. As a writer and an artist, I get that A LOT. But later, when I get back to whatever I was doing, I always manage to find things that I like about it. I'm sure you'll come to find those things in these drawings, too. Most importantly, keep on creating! That's how we get over those annoying "blocks". Thanks for being so real and sharing everything with us! Your channel is definitely my current favorite! ♥
This is such a great exercise for art block and also shows how sketching and thumb nailing is essentially problem-solving. With every sketch you learn something new or try something different and that's one of the things that I really love about your videos - that you share the whole process from idea to finished painting!
Also is your mechanical pencil a rOtring? I'm trying to find it on Amazon and the rOtring looks the closest to yours lol

I was in a giant art block a while back, and I just COULDN'T draw. I tried and tried but I just couldn't, and I felt like my art was super bad! Then I discovered Rin... Practice brah, or there are tutorials. I learnt art as a degree in college for 4 years. I still think i’m bad. They always said practice sketching regularly, now i see why. And fyi it was based on observation like live models
