Kind of agree but at the same time you can't disscredit the drumming on Hail to the king. While being simple mostly it was heavy and precise as f*ck. Especially songs like Shepherd of fire, also Hail to the king got one of the heaviest drum mixes in my opinion. But i get that it's very different from what A7x used to be and is now.
Nightmare is and always will be my favorite Avenged Sevenfold album. It is so emotional and you can hear the love for the band’s fallen brother in every note played. Their early work was a little too metalcore for my tastes, but when City of Evil came out in '05, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and harkens back to the best of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. They've been compared to Iron Maiden, but I think Avenged has a far more bitter, cynical perspective. In 2010, Avenged released this 👉, Nightmare, their most accomplished album. I think the best song on the album is the title track, a song so bangin', most people probably don't think about the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the Christian conception of Hell, and the horrors of substance addiction, it's also a personal statement about the band itself after the tragic passing of The Rev! I have all their albums. For the record (I don't know what "for the record" means), Zacky V said in the "Waking the Fallen" documentary that he considers "Sounding the Seventh Trumpet" their rehearsal album.
Nightmare got shafted SOOOO hard. Tracks like Buried Alive, God Hates Us, and Natural Born Killer are SUPER underrated and DEFINITELY don't get enough attention. The first album without the Rev was GOLD and I don't think some people realize a lot of those songs were still written by him. It honestly is my all time favorite A7X album tied with The Stage or Waking the Fallen.

Self-titled is definitely my favorite A7X record. I frequently come to back to songs like Critical Acclaim, Afterlife, Almost Easy, Bromptom Cocktail, and Scream. I think that, while not as exciting and innovative as their other records, Hail to the King is still a solid classic metal album. Coming Home is the hidden gem on that record.
Excellent ranking sir, no complaints here. It's been a treat being an A7X fan since the days of 'City Of Evil' and watching them go from being mocked by Serious Metal Dudes as "whiney emo kid crap" that allegedly only girls liked (ahh, classic insult- wait I'm a girl) to now being one of the most successful modern metal bands with a varied, adventurous and yet highly accessible and enjoyable body of work. Even if you don't like ALL their stuff, you're bound to find at least one song that suits you.
Metal Bros: "Women only like this band because the guys are hot. They don't care about the music!" Also Metal bros: "The woman in this band is ugly, I'm not interested."
I’ve been an A7x fan since 2003 when I heard Chapter Four and I won’t see you Tonight. They made me become the musician I am today. I’ve listened and analyzed their albums front and back countless times. Here’s my honest album rankings: 1. City of Evil 2. The Stage 3 Waking the Fallen 4. Hail to the king 5. Nightmare 6. S/t 7. Sounding
Gold : City of Evil -- Self Titled Silver : Waking the Fallen -- LIBAD -- The Stage -- Nightmare Bronze: Hail to the King Aluminum: STST Ours were pretty similar. I found Hail to the king slower and less like their previous work but i cant deny the grooves i rocked to for quite awhile before tiring of it. I don't need or want all my music to be overly intricate with a lot of layers. Sometimes a catchy lick with a good groove, vocal melody and guitar solo is all I need. Hail to the king mostly delivered on that, there's alot less replay value then their usual stuff sure..but I still enjoyed it enough for a bronze placing.
Gold: City of Evil, Self-Titled, Nightmare Silver: Bronze: Waking the Fallen, The Stage (need to give the latter another listen though) Aluminum: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, Hail to the King Trash: Diamonds in the Rough (All rough, no diamonds)
Great job with the video man. My list would go. Gold: self titled, hail to the king, city of evil. Silver: nightmare, waking the fallen. Bronze: sounding the seventh trumpet. I have not heard the stage so can't comment on that one, but I am looking forward to hearing it soon. Keep up the awesome work.
I think that Hail to the King's music translates much better live. In fact, it took me seeing them live in 2014 where they played 6 songs off of the album for me to even understand what they were going for.
Gold: Waking the Fallen (My Personal Fav), City of Evil and The Stage Silver: Self-Titled (White Album), Nightmare Bronze: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet Aluminum: Hail to the King
A7X's best albums, in order: 1. City of Evil (Platinum tier) 2. Self titled (gold tier) 3. Nightmare (gold tier) 4. Hail to the King (Silver Tier) 5. The Stage (Bronze tier) 6. Waking the Fallen (aluminum tier) 7. Sounding the Seventh Trumpet (aluminum tier)
Gold: Nightmare & City of Evil Silver: Self Titled, Waking the Fallen & Diamonds in the Rough Bronze: Hail to the King, The Stage & Sounding of the Seventh Trumpet
im sorry if i am being too of a fan but i would put everything in gold except from the seventh trumpet and hail to the king, i would put them im gold. i love a7x i believe their song writing is crazy and they are super consistent with their releases
Same here pretty much. The problem with the tierlist for a band is that they compare the albums to each other and have to separate them. If you brought in other metal bands albums… Compared to A7X for me, all other albums would go from bronze to trash lol
I still don’t understand the hate for Hail to the King. The band for months to the lead up said it was going to be a retro rock album and people didn’t understand didn’t why they went classic rock. They literally told us lol
I agree with basically everything expect I would stage in gold, maybe unpopular opinion but I really like the stage its my second favourite behind city of evil
@@Replicaate I used to like httk when I first starting to get into metal but then as I started listening to more music I realised there was much better and listened to it less and less until now I don't touch it
While self titled is my favorite, the Stage is masterful. I love them doing something so progressive. They have never repeated themselves and I respect them for that.
I agree with this list almost 100% but honestly I think The Stage was definitely a "Gold tier" album, just for the fact that it really pushed the boundaries of what the band could put out both progressively and technically. Absolute masterpiece of an album. Even though it may not be on the same level as "City of Evil," it definitely was a monumental piece of work for A7X.
I was on vacation and found the very original copy of sounding the seventh trumpet in a used bargain bin for 3 bucks at a thrift store and since found out how freaking rare that version is and is one of my prized musical possessions
You nailed it with CIty of Evil and Self Titled as being their heydey. I mean City of Evil is really thrashy so naturally I love it, but holy cow that self-titled album I think was overall an even better record even if it didn't quite pack the aggressive punch the same way. I mean this album just blows me away and I can't find a weak track on it. I wish they had put Dear God up further in the list in between all those rockers at the start, it's kinda odd to end with A Little Piece of Heaven and Dear God This album probably also has what is in my opinion is A7X's most under-rated track ever in Brompton Cocktail. Sure, songs like Beast and the Harlot Bat Country, Seize the Day, and Burn it Down off City of Evil simply rule the planet earth, but as far as a complete piece of work I can't find a single thing wrong with this album. I'd rank it as one of the greatest 20, maybe even 10 heavy metal albums of all time, it's simply extraordinary.
Gold: Sounding, Waking, City, Avenged I cannot skip a single song on these first four records. Silver: Nightmare, Hail I didn't like A7X until Nightmare. I actually was annoyed by them for the longest time. I thought Hail was trash when it was first released, but it grew on multiple listens. The Stage: I rank it the lowest because I do not understand it.
My personal rank is 1. City of evil 2. The stage 3. Nightmare 4. Wakin the fallen 5. Avenged Sevenfold 6. Sounding the seventh trumpet 7. Hail to the king They have no bad albums except for hail to the king in my opinion I’m surprised how low the self titled album fell on my list but after relistening to their albums I can safely put it here it’s my opinion
For me it’d be Gold- Self titled and City of evil Silver- waking the fallen, Nightmare Bronze- The Stage, Sounding the seventh trumpet Aluminum- Hail to the king (but it’s grazing bronze)
nice list aluminum - hail to the king very equality comparison tho not thier 6th album its because thier tribute album from thier influence ex: metallica
GOLD: City of Evil, Waking the Fallen SILVER: Self Titled, Nightmare, The Stage BRONZE: Sounding the Seven Trumpet ALUMINIUM: Hail to the King TRASH: - - - - - - - - - That's my list
I think it would be in bronze for Luke's list since he gave it a 7 and liked it a bit more when he listened to it more, plus they didn't have a bronze on this list so it fits well.
Lets do a metallica discography live because as a metallica fan i have my personal opinion that ride the lightning album is a tiny bit better than master of puppets and its a great debate that rains on to this day
From my understanding & im pretty sure u guys will correct me if im wrong, but "hail to the king" was a tribute album to their idols growing up. You can hear iron maiden very clearly in the song coming home with the galloping horse rhythm. Hence "Hail to the king" or Hail to our idols as I see it.
@@MyNameWasCensored I agree, I think it’s their best album ever. In the court of the Dragon has been in my rotation so much lately, but going back to listen to it, it’s like yep 😂
Personally I would rank them as follows: Gold (1-3): Nightmare, Self-Titled, City Of Evil Silver (4) Waking The Fallen Bronze (5-6) Hail To The King, The Stage Aluminum (7) Sounding The 7th Trumpet But I love them all
Also, I would certainly put The Stage in Gold and it would be pretty tough to describe why in a RUclips comment. To keep it short, bold new direction, interesting melodies, thought provoking lyrics, it's full of color and ties together with an interesting concept of "intelligence." Also Exist is just fucking incredible.
To add, Brooks proved is a fantastic fit for this band. Easily the most underrated record they have. I think because it kind of grows on you, it didn't catch on. But after dozens of listens I feel like I notice something new every time.
Not that anyone asked, but this is my list. Gold: Waking the Fallen, City of Evil, Self-Titled, Nightmare Silver: Hail to the King Bronze: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, The Stage
Knew about these guys back in 2006 when I played Burnout. Wasn't really a big fan of them till I heard Lost from their self-titled album. It should've been late 2009, then I found out The Rev passed away.. I was heartbroken. Started listening to their early works and completely fell in love with them. Can't recall where I picked this quote from and made it mine but I'll say: ''If A7X's got 5M fans, I'm one of em. If A7X's got 10K fans, I'm one of em. If A7X's got only 1 fan, that's me. If A7X no longer has any fans, I've passed away.'' My personal ranking would be: 1. Self-Titled 2. City of Evil/Nightmare (given I consider ''Save Me'' to be their best work by far) 3. Nightmare/City of Evil 4. The Stage 5. Walking the Fallen 6. Hail to the King 7. Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
There's some b-sides off the self-titled I think that surpass some of the tracks that made the record. It's a 7/10 to me as is, but replacing some tracks and rearranging some of the sequencing and it'd be a 9/10 for me.
Gold: City of Evil, The Stage Silver: Nightmare, Self-Titled, Waking The Fallen Bronze: Hail To The King Aluminium: Sounding The Seventh Trumpet Used to be my favourite band for a long time, not quite so much anymore, but I still love their stuff.
Nightmare, City of Evil and The Stage are my top 3. Nightmare is my favorite. I was in my early 20s when it came out and my best friend died in a car wreck a couple months before it came out so i really connected with it at the time.
My rankings: Gold - Nightmare and Hail to the King Silver - Self-titled, The Stage, Waking the Fallen Bronze - City of Evil Aluminum - Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
So excited for the new album, it seems like they are putting their whole avengedsevenfussy into the album and if it’s continuing in the direction the state went it it will be great.
My friend and I in grade school would listen to the City of Evil album together. Beast and the Harlot was my favorite of the album. I also like how their first album wasn't self-titled like a majority of bands. However, my favorite album was Nightmare. Doesn't mean i didn't enjoy Rev, just my personal opinion. Diamond in the Rough album not make the cut?
gold: waking the fallen, nightmare, city of evil, self titled silver: sounding the seventh trumpet, diamonds in the rough bronze: the stage aluminum: hail to the king only thing keeping HTTK out of trash are the last two songs. DITR has some really solid songs on it for being a b sides. i got it on vinyl as soon as it came out. i regret not buying the holographic cover for the stage. it's not my favorite but it would look really cool in my collection.
Seventh Trumpet: Aluminum Waking the Fallen: Bronze City of Evil: Gold White Album: Gold Nightmare: Silver Hail to The King: Gold The Stage: Silver It'll be interesting to see how Life is But a Dream.... turns out.
Gold: Avenged Sevenfold, City of Evil Silver: Nightmare, Waking the Fallen, Hail to the King Bronze: The Stage Aluminum: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet Trash:
Hot take, I like This Means War much more than Sad but True. If you look past the main riff, the chorus imo is much more effective and catchy and the solo hits hard, and it isn't in any way a Kirk Hammett rip off. And I loved the stage as well, it's probably my second favourite album, because of personal preferences, but it just feels so huge, with amazing lyrics about the modern state of humanity.
This needs to be updated with their new album. Personally I would put it in the low aluminum tier. There's really only 1 part of cosmic and mattel that I like, the rest are either boring or just not something that I would listen to
I agree with most of the list, but the self titled album is when they went mainstream. When it came out all I thought was "they went pop-metal", I'm pretty sure they had the most singles on that one too. Nightmare is high silver or low gold for me just because of how emotional it is. And come on, having Mike Portnoy on it (in the absence of the Rev) definitely elevates it
Fun fact about Beast In The Harlot. That song appears in Guitar Hero 2 2006 (cover version by Wavegroup Sound) teer 8, and Guitar Hero: Smash Hits 2009 (master recording) teer 6, or teer 7.
Nightmare, bronze, just show you don’t understand half of the music there and where it came from, arguably as the best closer song from any of their albums, and none of the musics feel like fillers all of them have their purpose on the album, and expressing the feelings that they just went through.
I give nightmare a ton of love. For it to start out as a concept, then to have tragedy hit the band, and to scrap the rest of the concept and transition it to a tribute to rev, but keep some of the "concept" and make it flow.
Nightmare is loved by the casual fan and I honestly think under appreciated by the die hard fans - little known fact because the Rev died before it’s release, but it’s his drums on the album, all of the music was written with him, only the lyrics were after his passing
For me: Gold: Waking The Fallen, City of Evil Silver: Self-Titled, Nightmare Bronze: The Stage Aluminum: Sounding The Seventh Trumpet, Hail To The King
One of the biggest reasons HttK was so gimped is specifically because the session and touring drummer they hired to the interim couldn't keep up with Gates, you could see him struggling just to play some of the faster tracks, I'm assuming A7X was aware of this and intentionally slowed down for the drums, something they're not used to doing. I believe the guy for Nightmare was busy with other touring and other jobs and was only supposed to assist in finishing up Nightmare, drum parts were most of the way ready or done for many of the songs on that album before the Rev died.
I would have put The Stage in Gold and Hail to the King in Bronze, but other than that, very accurate ranking. 7. Sounding the 7th Trumpet 6. Hail to the King 5. Waking the Fallen 4. Nightmare 3. The Stage 2. self-titled 1. City of Evil
My tiers would look like: Gold: Waking the Fallen, City of Evil Silver: Nightmare, Avenged Sevenfold Bronze: The Stage, Hail to the King Aluminum: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
Sounding the seventh trumpet: gold Waking the fallen: gold City of evil: gold Selftitled: gold Nightmare: gold Hail to the king: gold The stage: gold Life is but a dream…: gold
My tier list would be: Gold: The Stage, City of Evil, Nightmare Silver: Waking the Fallen, Self-Title Bronze: Hail to the King Aluminum: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
Hail to the King had some great tracks like "Crimson Day" and "Planets", but the overall feel was lacking. Keep in mind, this album was supposed to be a tie-in for the mobile game they made after that big gamer documentary aired on Twitch with M. Shadows. And this might be a hot take, but I personally enjoy the b-sides of The Stage more than The Stage proper. It just felt more fun and different.
20:40 they've since only told discord that it's not being mixed till August of this year and not out til late 22 or early 23. Might be a little more while but they could surprise idk

They don't care about the music!"
Also Metal bros: "The woman in this band is ugly, I'm not interested."
I’ve been an A7x fan since 2003 when I heard Chapter Four and I won’t see you Tonight. They made me become the musician I am today. I’ve listened and analyzed their albums front and back countless times. Here’s my honest album rankings:
1. City of Evil
2. The Stage
3 Waking the Fallen
4. Hail to the king
5. Nightmare
6. S/t
7. Sounding
Gold : City of Evil -- Self Titled
Silver : Waking the Fallen -- LIBAD -- The Stage -- Nightmare
Bronze: Hail to the King
Aluminum: STST
Ours were pretty similar.
I've been waiting for you to talk about this band for a loooong time and I'm so excited. Thanks Luke 😊
1. Waking The Fallen
2. The Stage
3. Nightmare
4. City of Evil
5. Self-Titled
6. Sounding The Seventh Trumpet
7. Hail To The King
while i don’t agree i still respect your opinion and do agree on the hail to the king placement
Dude hail to the king has a lot of hidden gems like crimson day, coming home and requeim.
Gold: City of Evil, Self-Titled, Nightmare
Silver:
Bronze: Waking the Fallen, The Stage (need to give the latter another listen though)
Aluminum: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, Hail to the King
Trash: Diamonds in the Rough (All rough, no diamonds)
1. City of Evil
2. Waking the Fallen
3. Nightmare
4. The Stage
5. Avenged Sevenfold
6. Hail to the King
7. Sounds of the Seventh Trumpet
In fact, it took me seeing them live in 2014 where they played 6 songs off of the album for me to even understand what they were going for.
except that they don't play the best record, that's literally about touring, live >:(
@@heter0flexual623 What are the best ones in your opinion?
@@stephentyree9296 coming home is the best easily, followed by shepherd of fire and crimson day
Nightmare is their best album, period.
There's maybe one song on the entire album I'm not a fan of; but the rest of it absolutely fucking slaps.
Gold: Waking the Fallen (My Personal Fav), City of Evil and The Stage
Silver: Self-Titled (White Album), Nightmare
Bronze: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
Aluminum: Hail to the King
A7X's best albums, in order:
1. City of Evil (Platinum tier)
2. Self titled (gold tier)
3. Nightmare (gold tier)
4. Hail to the King (Silver Tier)
5. The Stage (Bronze tier)
6. Waking the Fallen (aluminum tier)
7. Sounding the Seventh Trumpet (aluminum tier)
This was very interesting to watch.
I love listening to your thoughts.
It was a really good video.
It seemed unbiased.
Keep it up.
Gold: Nightmare & City of Evil
Silver: Self Titled, Waking the Fallen & Diamonds in the Rough
Bronze: Hail to the King, The Stage & Sounding of the Seventh Trumpet
Nightmare personally is gold. It has a lot of high points that fly under the radar like Buried Alive, God Hates Us, Natural Born Killer, and Fiction.
im sorry if i am being too of a fan but i would put everything in gold except from the seventh trumpet and hail to the king, i would put them im gold. i love a7x i believe their song writing is crazy and they are super consistent with their releases
Hey man fair point. You love what you love! At least you aren’t schlong riding them 😂
Same here pretty much.
Same here. That album made me fall back in love with them all over again after the slight misstep pf HTTK.
@@Replicaate I used to like httk when I first starting to get into metal but then as I started listening to more music I realised there was much better and listened to it less and less until now I don't touch it
While self titled is my favorite, the Stage is masterful. I love them doing something so progressive. They have never repeated themselves and I respect them for that.
agreed
I agree with this list almost 100% but honestly I think The Stage was definitely a "Gold tier" album, just for the fact that it really pushed the boundaries of what the band could put out both progressively and technically. Absolute masterpiece of an album. Even though it may not be on the same level as "City of Evil," it definitely was a monumental piece of work for A7X.
I was on vacation and found the very original copy of sounding the seventh trumpet in a used bargain bin for 3 bucks at a thrift store and since found out how freaking rare that version is and is one of my prized musical possessions
Just found you man. Having a blast with these videos. I think WTF should have been gold is my only qualm here.
I wish they had put Dear God up further in the list in between all those rockers at the start, it's kinda odd to end with A Little Piece of Heaven and Dear God
This album probably also has what is in my opinion is A7X's most under-rated track ever in Brompton Cocktail.
Gold: Waking the Fallen, The Stage
Silver: Nightmare, Self Titled, City of Evil
Low bronze: StST, Hail to the King
My list exactly
Gold: Sounding, Waking, City, Avenged
I cannot skip a single song on these first four records.
Silver: Nightmare, Hail
I didn't like A7X until Nightmare. I actually was annoyed by them for the longest time.
I thought Hail was trash when it was first released, but it grew on multiple listens.
The Stage: I rank it the lowest because I do not understand it.
1. City of evil
2 Nightmare
3 Waking the Fallen
4 Self Titled
5 The Stage
6 Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
7 Hail to the King
My personal rank is
1. City of evil
2. The stage
3. Nightmare
4. Wakin the fallen
5. Avenged Sevenfold
6. Sounding the seventh trumpet
7. Hail to the king
They have no bad albums except for hail to the king in my opinion I’m surprised how low the self titled album fell on my list but after relistening to their albums I can safely put it here it’s my opinion
For me it’d be
Gold- Self titled and City of evil
Silver- waking the fallen, Nightmare
Bronze- The Stage, Sounding the seventh trumpet
Aluminum- Hail to the king (but it’s grazing bronze)
for the first time ive liked the youtube comments again
nice list aluminum - hail to the king very equality comparison tho not thier 6th album its because thier tribute album from thier influence ex: metallica
GOLD: City of Evil, Waking the Fallen
SILVER: Self Titled, Nightmare, The Stage
BRONZE: Sounding the Seven Trumpet
ALUMINIUM: Hail to the King
TRASH: - - - - - - - - -
That's my list
City of Evil with Hail to the king and Nightmare are all so epic that its hard to choose which one is better.
Love your take on my favorite band
My ranking
1. City Of Evil
2. Nightmare
3. Waking The Fallen
4. The Stage
5. Self-Titled
6. Hail To The King
7. Sounding The Seventh Trumpet
Everyone says city of evil was peak avenged sevenfold! XD
Would love to know where LIBAD fits in here after you've listened to it a while...
All gold for me, I got into music and started playing guitar because of A7X
The Trivium one would be interesting. Especially trying to pick which ones are the best out of their last 3.
I would say sin and the sentence was the best of the three.
@@MyNameWasCensored I agree, I think it’s their best album ever. In the court of the Dragon has been in my rotation so much lately, but going back to listen to it, it’s like yep 😂
@@jacee8094 Alex Bent on drums for Sin's title track and just n general brought them to a new level.
Gold: Nightmare, The Stage
Silver: City of Evil
Bronze: Self Titled, Waking the Fallen
Aluminum: Hail to the King
Trash: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
Personally I would rank them as follows:
Gold (1-3): Nightmare, Self-Titled, City Of Evil
Silver (4) Waking The Fallen
Bronze (5-6) Hail To The King, The Stage
Aluminum (7) Sounding The 7th Trumpet
But I love them all
Also, I would certainly put The Stage in Gold and it would be pretty tough to describe why in a RUclips comment.
Gold: Waking the Fallen, City of Evil, Self-Titled, Nightmare
Silver: Hail to the King
Bronze: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, The Stage
Knew about these guys back in 2006 when I played Burnout. Wasn't really a big fan of them till I heard Lost from their self-titled album.
It should've been late 2009, then I found out The Rev passed away.. I was heartbroken.
Started listening to their early works and completely fell in love with them.
Can't recall where I picked this quote from and made it mine but I'll say:
''If A7X's got 5M fans, I'm one of em. If A7X's got 10K fans, I'm one of em.
If A7X's got only 1 fan, that's me. If A7X no longer has any fans, I've passed away.''
My personal ranking would be:
1. Self-Titled
2. City of Evil/Nightmare (given I consider ''Save Me'' to be their best work by far)
3. Nightmare/City of Evil
4. The Stage
5. Walking the Fallen
6. Hail to the King
7. Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
I would put The Stage in Gold, I'm a sucker for well done concept albums. Otherwise I'd have the same tiers.
Hard agree with this list, I think I would have placed everything the same way. Their self-titled is super underrated.
Hey, no one else might say it, but nice Starset Vessels in the background. They’re my favorite band.
There's some b-sides off the self-titled I think that surpass some of the tracks that made the record. It's a 7/10 to me as is, but replacing some tracks and rearranging some of the sequencing and it'd be a 9/10 for me.
Gold: City of Evil, The Stage
Silver: Nightmare, Self-Titled, Waking The Fallen
Bronze: Hail To The King
Aluminium: Sounding The Seventh Trumpet
Used to be my favourite band for a long time, not quite so much anymore, but I still love their stuff.
1. Self Titled
2. City of Evil
3. Waking The fallen
4. Nightmare
5. Sounding the seventh trumpet
Nightmare, City of Evil and The Stage are my top 3.
Nightmare is my favorite. I was in my early 20s when it came out and my best friend died in a car wreck a couple months before it came out so i really connected with it at the time.
My rankings:
Gold - Nightmare and Hail to the King
Silver - Self-titled, The Stage, Waking the Fallen
Bronze - City of Evil
Aluminum - Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
So excited for the new album, it seems like they are putting their whole avengedsevenfussy into the album and if it’s continuing in the direction the state went it it will be great.
My friend and I in grade school would listen to the City of Evil album together. Beast and the Harlot was my favorite of the album. I also like how their first album wasn't self-titled like a majority of bands. However, my favorite album was Nightmare. Doesn't mean i didn't enjoy Rev, just my personal opinion. Diamond in the Rough album not make the cut?
gold: waking the fallen, nightmare, city of evil, self titled
silver: sounding the seventh trumpet, diamonds in the rough
bronze: the stage
aluminum: hail to the king
only thing keeping HTTK out of trash are the last two songs. DITR has some really solid songs on it for being a b sides. i got it on vinyl as soon as it came out. i regret not buying the holographic cover for the stage. it's not my favorite but it would look really cool in my collection.
Seventh Trumpet: Aluminum
Waking the Fallen: Bronze
City of Evil: Gold
White Album: Gold
Nightmare: Silver
Hail to The King: Gold
The Stage: Silver
It'll be interesting to see how Life is But a Dream.... turns out.
Gold: Avenged Sevenfold, City of Evil
Silver: Nightmare, Waking the Fallen, Hail to the King
Bronze: The Stage
Aluminum: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
Trash:
Hot take, I like This Means War much more than Sad but True. If you look past the main riff, the chorus imo is much more effective and catchy and the solo hits hard, and it isn't in any way a Kirk Hammett rip off. And I loved the stage as well, it's probably my second favourite album, because of personal preferences, but it just feels so huge, with amazing lyrics about the modern state of humanity.
1. Avenged Sevenfold
2. City of evil
3. Nightmare
4. The Stage
5. Waking the fallen
6. Hail to the king
7. Sounding the seventh trumpet
My top 3 is
1. City of evil
2. Waking the fallen (resurrection because the demo versions are better)
3. The stage
Man why don’t people talk about diamonds in the rough
For me:
Gold: Waking The Fallen, City of Evil
Silver: Self-Titled, Nightmare
Bronze: The Stage
Aluminum: Sounding The Seventh Trumpet, Hail To The King
One of the biggest reasons HttK was so gimped is specifically because the session and touring drummer they hired to the interim couldn't keep up with Gates, you could see him struggling just to play some of the faster tracks, I'm assuming A7X was aware of this and intentionally slowed down for the drums, something they're not used to doing. I believe the guy for Nightmare was busy with other touring and other jobs and was only supposed to assist in finishing up Nightmare, drum parts were most of the way ready or done for many of the songs on that album before the Rev died.
Their self titled album is one of my all time favorite albums period.
I would have put The Stage in Gold and Hail to the King in Bronze, but other than that, very accurate ranking.
7. Sounding the 7th Trumpet
6. Hail to the King
5. Waking the Fallen
4. Nightmare
3. The Stage
2. self-titled
1. City of Evil
My personal ranking:
St7thT: Aluminum
WtF: Silver
CoE: Gold
A7X: Silver
Nightmare: Silver
HttK: Bronze
The Stage: Silver
My tiers would look like:
Gold: Waking the Fallen, City of Evil
Silver: Nightmare, Avenged Sevenfold
Bronze: The Stage, Hail to the King
Aluminum: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
my list
Gold: City of Evil, Nightmare
Silver: Waking the Fallen, The Stage
Bronze: Self Titled
Aluminum: Sounding of the Sounding Trumpet
Man, I seem to think exactly the same way as you about these A7x albums and songs.
Can you do tier lists of breaking Benjamin, disturbed, Korn, and just for the fun of it nickelback
Danger line is kinda underrated in nightmare
Sounding the seventh trumpet: gold
Waking the fallen: gold
City of evil: gold
Selftitled: gold
Nightmare: gold
Hail to the king: gold
The stage: gold
Life is but a dream…: gold
My tier list would be:
Gold: The Stage, City of Evil, Nightmare
Silver: Waking the Fallen, Self-Title
Bronze: Hail to the King
Aluminum: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet
Hail to the King had some great tracks like "Crimson Day" and "Planets", but the overall feel was lacking. Keep in mind, this album was supposed to be a tie-in for the mobile game they made after that big gamer documentary aired on Twitch with M. Shadows. And this might be a hot take, but I personally enjoy the b-sides of The Stage more than The Stage proper. It just felt more fun and different.
Nightmare is home to a good chunk of my favourite songs by these guys; so it's always been my favourite album.
20:40 they've since only told discord that it's not being mixed till August of this year and not out til late 22 or early 23. Might be a little more while but they could surprise idk
