Solo Camping after a Massive Storm | Wind, Rain, Thunderstorms

  • We had a massive wind storm in our area a couple of weeks ago. 130 km winds, trees were uprooted, homes damaged and power was lost in many areas. Unfortunately we also had some fatalities from the storm.
    I postponed my planned crown land camping trip because it wasn't the right time to go camping when so many people were burdened with the clean up from the storm.
    When the time was right I made my way out to some of my favourite crown land spots. I knew there was a good chance the roads would still be blocked by downed trees and sure enough that was the case. Eventually I found a place to camp and I had a good trip, even with a little rain in the morning.
    Thanks for watching, I always appreciate it.

    Oh well, my camping trip didn't go as planned...they never do. I was hoping to do some crown land camping but the roads were in bad shape due to a recent wind storm and downed trees. I had an adventure trying to find a spot but I was focused on camping somewhere and I did. Have you had trips not go as planned?

      Thanks Dennis, once I found a campsite it was a good trip, but it was quite the adventure just to find a place to camp.

    Another great video. We are a small camping channel in Ontario and enjoy watching your videos. It's fun making the videos and they keep you active no matter how many views or subscribers. The support is always welcome though and I'm sure you're always excited to see your views and subscribers go up. It's nice to see you are enjoying what you do some channels seem to spend so much time showing what the area or park has to offer but don't really show you them enjoying it. Always look forwarding to your new videos.

    Oh that storm damage looked just awful. It hurts my heart to see damage like that to the forests. Sorry you had some a tough time trying to find a crow land spot. Glad you found a nice site. I would not be so positive if I woke up to rain in the middle of the night so good for you.

    Dude the shot of the blown down trees is crazy! Being from Wisconsin, I'm used to seeing some destruction from tornados, never seen that from above though.

    • @DavidNorthFilms

      Thanks Jack, ya the damage really surprised me. It wasn't a tornado but it was as if someone took a giant finger and just knocked over trees in the forest. It's too bad, we lost some great hiking trails.

    Hey nice to see you have a video up I always enjoy watching your camping adventures real pretty camp spot . That was quit the storm we had lost a lot of trees for sure , looks like a great fishing area maybe next time eh. too bad you didn't have a tarp with you and poles , since not many trees to tie off on, as you could have rigged up a tarp over the fire pit. to sit under even a bug shelter.

    • @DavidNorthFilms
      @DavidNorthFilms  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Sue. Ya it was quite the storm, it's a shame about the local forests. I did have a tarp and poles with me, I decided to leave them in the car because I wanted to try out my tent in the rain. I haven't really had it out in a good rain. It did okay, I should have pegged it down better. Thanks for watching.

    Ya that storm did a lot of damage in Ontario, I am shocked it wasn't a tornado. Great video once again day. You really have a great attitude about everything which really helps in tough situations. How did the tent hold up and how do you get those creative shots in the canoe?

    • @DavidNorthFilms
      @DavidNorthFilms  2 года назад

      It was quite the storm. Thanks for your nice comments. I try to stay positive when the going gets tough...that doesn't mean I didn't swear up a storm each time I got stopped by downed trees! The tent did well. I have a few different rigs set up on the canoe to give me some different shots, I am still working on it!

    Oh I am glad you finally found a site to camp at. It must have been very frustrating to have to turn back each time. You're footage in the canoe is just beautiful do you mind me asking which cameras you use for your productions. Also do you ever do stealth camping?

    • @DavidNorthFilms
      @DavidNorthFilms  2 года назад

      Thanks Lee. Ya it was frustrating but I was determined to camp one way or another! I use the Sony a6400 as my main camera with the DJI Pocket 2 and DJI Osmo Action. I don't do stealth camping, it's just not my thing. When I camp I try to get as far away from civilization as possible!

    Another great spot Dave...man you guys really got clobbered by that storm eh? It must be tiring as heck to set up the camera, paddle by, go back and get the camera, lol. As long as I can stay dry I don't mind the rain either. :)

    • @DavidNorthFilms
      @DavidNorthFilms  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Jason. The storm was pretty bad, we lost power for five days, but others had it worse. The filming of these videos is tough, just like you said, film, go back, film! But the worst part is doing that but getting in and out of the canoe! I swear I am going to fall in while doing that at some point!

    • @DavidNorthFilms

      I have a mental checklist but I still forget something. I have never forgotten anything at the campsite...yet. I always forget to bring something, like this trip I forget my fishing rod!

    Are you still using the DJI Pocket 2 to make your videos? I'm seriously considering buying one🤔

    • @DavidNorthFilms
      @DavidNorthFilms  2 года назад +1

      Hi Dave. Yes I am still using the Pocket 2. It's not my main camera, I use the Sony a6400 as my main camera but I do use the pocket 2 quite a bit. I didn't bring it for this trip as I knew it was going to storm so I was worried about damaging it.

    • @davec6250
      @davec6250 2 года назад

      @@DavidNorthFilms i really wanna buy one but wondering if i should wait for the rumoured pocket 3 with removable battery. What are your thoughts or have you any info on a possible 3?

    • @DavidNorthFilms
      @DavidNorthFilms  2 года назад

      @@davec6250 Ya that is a ln excellent point. I'm guessing the Pocket 3 will be out in November. It will either be a much better camera or you will be able to get the Pocket 2 for cheap.
