So Pigeon and I headed back up to Washbrook Farm for a lesson with Nigel Taylor over the weekend (Aston le Walls, Daventry, 05.06.12). Really great experience that I would recommend to all regardless of what level you compete or ride at. Pigeon was her usual amazing self - she jumped everything first time and really showed her boldness and agility over some pretty big and technical obstacles! There were issues with the owl hole... She jumped it first time but dropped her right shoulder on landing (and I came off). She then refused to jump the fence again (I came off a second, and nearly a third, time). At that point I had to admit to having lost my nerve with it so we sensibly decided to leave that one for another day. It was only afterwards that I discovered Pigeon had scraped a chunk off skin off her belly jumping it the first time - no wonder she landed oddly and was so reluctant to jump the owl hole again! So many lessons learnt in such a short time... Uppermost I think is, 'do not get ahead of your horse!' :-) - Спорт
I'm really glad you didn't get angry with her! Punishing a horse that's unsure or scared of a jump is only going to make it more difficult for the horse to trust you and itself.
Yas
To this rider, I wanted to tell you I thoroughly enjoyed watching a person who listens to, respects, and praises their horses. Exceptional courtesy and dedication on exhibited by both your mount and you!
rds201099 Wow - what a lovely comment! Thank you so much :)
The fact that you kept urging and encouraging her on by saying 'good girl' and 'well done', warms my heart. You made sure she was ok, and stopped trying the jump after you knew something was up. A true equestrian is one that cares about horses, they don't even have to be able to ride! It could be on a video game or something, you know when you are an equestrian. I sadly don't have enough money to care for a horse of my own, so I take out ponies from my stables.
Miacatt they're such an amazing team
Thats a good fact
Honestly I agree 100% but sometimes you need to keep bringing your horse back to the jump to make sure they know to listen to you but I 100% agree with you.
That’s what I have to do everyday I beg for a horse but my parents always say no we don’t have enough space even if we took out our pool
@@tinavine my parents say we don't have enough money but I have a lady across my street who is gonna teach me
Hannah Feldstein I am a fan of the John Lyon's quote, "There are only two emotions that belong in the saddle; one is a sense of humour, and the other is patience." Easier said than done sometimes ;-)
A Horse Called Pigeon I love your horse and the colour and you are amazing at riding
A Horse Called Pigeon how are you and pigeon doing now?? Been a fan for years 😄😄😍😍 over the years I've got some good riding tips
Your a good rider!! ❤️️❤️️😍😍😘😘
eviesanimals 7 unfortunately pigeon had to be put down- check her latest vid. RIP Pige😭❤️❤️
WHAT!
Hope it heals
You don't ride horses enough if you don't fall every now and then. I'm no jumping expert (because I ride western) but it looked like you did a great job!
With horses you never stop learning, whether you ride English, Western or just handle them from the ground! Thanks for wtaching!
I’ve only had one fall in my life and it wasn’t even on my horse which is the one that we would expect me to fall off of as she’s absolutely mad and has bucked and reared and taken off with me XD
No one needs to hear what I say when I fall off XD
LOL! I think I was too shocked to swear :)
LOL!!
Your horse looks like she's having so much fun! Her ears are adorable with the black around them! You're really good with your falling! I usually just take a moment.. or ten minutes just relflecting on how I can breath again! :P
I did need a few minutes after the first fall. Mostly to reattach the camera to my helmet. Thanks so much for your comment :)
@@anadin56 it’s not your horse
Anna Schiffer We decided to leave it after the 2nd fall and I'm glad... While untacking I found that she had scraped her belly when she jumped it the first time! Explains her reluctance which is very unlike her! I haven't been back up to school since so not had another go at it yet. Fortunately I don't compete at that level so there's no pressure :)
Was she/he ok?
She was alright. A bit sore and swollen and there's still a mark from it years later. But no lasting damage :)
A Horse Called Pigeon Phew. Thats lucky. (Btw, I didnt mean to ask the same question twice. My kindle must of played up when I wrote the comment.) And (from the reply from the second one that sent through) i`d try it again if you think shes more confident, or whatever that word is. (I dont mean confident)
That jump looked so terrifying!!! I'm glad your horse was okay (and you too). You're a great rider!
Yeah. That jump did look a bit scary. Good they are both great!
Pigeon! Cutest name ever!! Btw love Bays
03:21 l have a feeling that your horse doesn't wanna go there no more cause you fell off.. sometimes when the horse throws his/her owner off they feel very sorry and they dont want it to happen again, l had that twice.
Bless you for staying sweet and calm to your horse
Amazingly done!
Marit I suppose that’s the good thing about having a horse that doesn’t really like you 😂
Aha wish horse would just jump it sometimes 😂 but he had actually caught his belly on it and cut/ scraped it that's y he was reluctant
The agility of that horse is impressive, even after galloping for a while and jumping many obstacles she still manages to get through the next obstacle. I can feel a great chemistry between you and your horse, and I'm hoping to achieve that level of trust and skill with a horse someday. Props from a fellow horse lover!
***** Thanks for watching! I think the camera makes the fences look a bit smaller but it's all relative :)
You should get him used to that circle jump more like take him on the lead line and jump him through it, getting him comfortable and to stop doing refusals at that particular jump.
I love your horse and I think you are very brave!
+Rose TheDutchWarmbloodHorse her
***** sorry didn't know it was a mare
wo reitest du
I always count the strides when i watch your videos to a jump and I don't know why?xx
Ella Williamson Omg I do too haha it's a habit of mine 😂😂
Same😂
@@peppapigwhatareyoudoinginm7291 same😂
That place looks likea cross country wonderland!
It is and it just got even better as they have built an all weather cross country arena... I so want to go and play :)
That series of attempts through the hedgehole is awesome, love the way it shows one after the other until you're face-first in the hedge. First one was really unlucky, well done!
Warms my heart 10 degrees celcius warmer every time you praised her and encouraged her, and tried again even though you couldn't make it the first few tries.
You were not afraid to ask for help, which is a good thing to look for in true riders.
Keep up the great work!!
Well done for getting back on ur horse after the falls 😁😁🐴🐴💕💕
She was probably too scared to go back through after you fell off, thinking you were gonna fall again and get hurt.
Thumper Girl she was refusing, my horse does this a lot, they are scared sometimes but you have to put trust in them and like my mom says: just imagine your galloping in a open field
read the description
annalise wren she scraped her belly too the first time she went through it
Never once did I think you were going to fall, so when the camera casually rolled to the side, then collided gently with a hedge, I could only raise my eyebrows, bless both of you. You are both my insparations.
Thank you for being so kind and patient with her! Too often I see people screaming at or whipping their horses for something as silly as a refusal or tripping. People like that should not be able to own horses, but you are an amazing team!
All i can say is that you are a badass!!!! Let me know if you are interested in contributing your amazing first jumps in a go pro montage for a new horse product! It will be only a few seconds but I love the green grass! We don't have that in California!
+LC Lane Thank you! I'd be interesting in contributing... you can email me on ahorsecalledpigeon@outlook.com ;-)
she got back on like a pro ;_;... Good for you!
As a rider who just experienced a very similar fall, I literally FELT this. Like, braced my body for impact, totally expecting to feel the pain. I agree with everyone, I love how you praise your horse often and quietly.
Props to you for getting back on and not punishing the horse. I also love how you said "I need a little help"
That's confidence! Getting right back in the saddle!
That's what an equestrian does (;
This is a great helmet cam vid. It's like I'm actually riding! A lot of videos like these have the camera placed too high up or the video is distorted. This one is like I'm actually riding your horse! And it was a beautiful ride until the falls. But hey, it happens!
Such a strong bond between the two of you! I love it. You fell off and he didn't want to do it again because he didn't want you hurting yourself. You have a lot of respect for him/her and I'm sure he / she feels the same about you.
I love this horse because her ears are always forward and look like she is having a blast!
I love that horses ears they are so pretty ;-;
Wow I love it :) Your a good rider.
Its beautyful that you use words like good girl etc. Its amazing ♥
And she doesn't get blamed when failing that one jump. And she gets kind words from her rider. Which is rare. And she even seem to enjoy jumping. Which is even more rare. Wish we had more of these kinds of riders in the jumping fields. I actually once got told off by another rider in a competition because I spoke to my horse, which was apparently amateurish and out of place. I also reached down and petted my horse on her chin, after haven left the field after the race. I REALLY like this riders way.
I love how u got back in the saddle. Being a good rider isn't about never falling. It's about falling, and then getting right back up.
Thank you Jessalyn Taylor! I'm not sure I can be trusted with the responsabily of being inspirational! Body protectors are wonderful things, lol! :) x
Your horse is beautiful and amazing!
I'm so happy you came out of your falls safely and with minimal damage!
Personally, for someone with a fear of falling, these videos are really helpful. It shows me a wonderful first-person perspective of a fall without any actual damage and gives me more confidence that if I fall off then it's only a 20% chance of badly hurting myself! (But I'm not telling you to go and fall off all the time!)
Resiliance, determination, passion. Three things visible on that video. My inspiration.
Wow! I've just started doing a little bit of cross country but you make it look so easy! :)
Pigeon makes it feel easy! Thank you for watching. I hope you enjoy gaining confidence across country :D
Wow you're both amazing! You make it look like a piece of cake :D
Thanks for watching! Pigeon has taught me much over the years :-)
You are a really talented and patient rider. The horse seems like it really loves you haha!A pleasure watching a rider get bqck on after a fall again.Alot of people never get back on!
Riding horses is by far the toughest thing! Great job she is such a wonderful willing mare!!
Love your helmet cam videos!!!
Is there any chance I could use some of these in a video I'm making? Ill credit and link you :D
+HorsesLover211 Yes of course (thanks for asking first - many don't bother). Send me the link when it's done - I love to see new interpretations of my footage :) x
+A Horse Called Pigeon OMG you and your horse are awesome and this video was awesome
***** That's a great attitude you have!
I loved your patience and gratitude through this!
You guys are amazing and I love your horses ears! They always flicked back to you, paying attention at all times:)
SOOO COOL what breed is your horse??
first of all WHO JUMPS THROUGH A HOLE SMALLER THE YOUR HORSES BODY!!!!!!!
The hole is indeed large enough to fit a horse when it's legs are properly tucked as it takes off :/
so idk its dagurous for the animal and you!
Morgan Claire Villiet It is dangerous, but but any sport is. Even soccer players get injured, and equestrianism is no exception.
well its dangurous jumping through a hole riding a horse but riding without jumping through holes is a safe life and i know that because i ride horses and i never jumped through a hole and ive never been hert (sorry i spelled hert like that i play to much games) riding a horse
ive been riding for 17 years
This girlie obviously loves her job. Ears forward, listening to you and always eager to keep moving. Clearly, this isn't work to her, she's just out here having a very muddy romp!
I loveeee your helmet cam videos I watch them all the time!! Great job you two!! : )
That was neat to watch with the helmet cam. I liked the fact that you praised her on every jump. :)
You're such a good rider :) I loved it how you and your horse are so responsive to each other, and are able to clear most of the jumps. Her canter seems so smooth! She's a beauty
Wow! Your an amazing rider! The way I you always patted her when she did something good was really great to do. Also, when you fell with the circle one and you didn't yell at her was really good! Amazing trust and bond as well!
i've come home a bit squiffy and had much fun imaging i were *hupping* over these jumps :) ty!
You did such a good job and I’m so happy you were not angry. Well done for getting back on straight away. Your really brave❤️
I love your praising of her, it's so rare for people to do verbal praise these days. You have a lovely horse there too, she looks like she tries really hard! And Owl Holes are mega scary! haha :)
I showed me dad the part where you fell off; he's never ridden and he worries so much a bout me riding! And I said this is exactly what it looks like when you fall off! It's so weird to watch! He was so scared watching it bless him.
my mum worries that I'll fall off just over a beginner cross pole (that was the only time she watched me and she said she'll never watch me again because she is is terrified especially when I've started jumping 2ft9 now, isnt that big but i don't do many of them at my riding school because they don't let u jump very high)
I absolutely loved watching this! That horse loves it's job so much, and i could tell how well she listens to you, everytime you moved those ears moved in that directions. Amazing!
I love your videos. It is so much fun watching them and using the helmet camera I can even sort of "feel" a horse under myself just watching your video. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! More soon hopefully :)
It's awesome to see how after the 3d time you came off, you decided to go and call it quits instead of pushing on :) A true horse lover!
It was great watching you!
love how she has her ears pricked the whole way! but flicks back listening to you aswell! great video, and what a fab horse! x
Well ridden....that ''circle'' jump looked like it would scrape you and your horse to shreds if you weren't careful... and those stiff cut twigs hurt. What a lovely partnership you have :)
Great Job with getting right back on several times and also it is great to see someone not take their frustration out on their horse!
I absolutely love your videos ... such an amazing rider and horse! X
me saying “oh what a good horse” every time u get a wonky distance! your horse is very honest but that jump you fell off on was terrifying and i definitely would have major confidence issues there
You have such a good sense of humor when you ride :)
Well done!!!! I've seen Olympic level jumpers have a terrible time with those damn hole jumps lol. Your horse seemed very eager and scopey from this cam, and was listening to you, I could see her ear flick back when you encouraged her. And of course, you hopped right back on. VERY well done!!!!!! Bravo, bravo
P.S. just read she got a belly scrape. What a trooper she was. Bravo to you both. Looks like you found a perfect partner.
***** Thank you for your comment. Despite a small mark on Pigeon's belly to this day she is still going strong and loving the cross country! We have our first competition of the year this Sunday (and hopefully videos to share on Monday)! :-)
Bloody nora! They look huge! Very well done, it was so nice to see a rider patting the horse instead of throttling it for stopping and tipping them off! Well done for getting back on, it was a meaty fence that but at least it was a brush and not something solid you fell into! xx
Beth Naylor Hear hear to that... faces and solid objects don't tend to mix well ;-) Thanks for watching! xx
I love her face when you come off in that last attempt! Great video!
I love how no matter what u got back on every time and kept trying. That shows u trust ur horse a lot :)
Can i just say that you handle those falls so well?!?!? You are amazing :)
You did very well! And well done for getting straight back on after you fell!
Lovely smooth riding, and your horse is constantly listening to you. looking great!
You are a very good rider. Don't worry about the falls. You handled them very well
You did really well! i'm really nervous about doing cross country next year when i go to college. But well done, hope you were safe and Pigeon was okay!
This horse is so cute! She looks like she has a nice canter and jump. Ur soo lucky to have her!🍀🐎
Im so impressed of both of you.You both done great job,you both are so brave and work as a team!
such a great video!!! :) love how you handle your horse and how brave you are. You two are a really good team!! You changed my mind about XC ;) thank you.
Very well done, you seem to have a great spirit and just got up again and go. Loved the XC, beautiful! Would love to try out that arena.
An amazing rider who always praises her horse and a great horse!
Must have been scary! But I love your videos and you handled that soo well! Your my inspiration!!:)
you guys looked awesome out there, until the fall lol. Your horse is beautiful, and I hope you guys show, you both look like a perfect pair!!! Happy Trails!!! :)
I could practically feel my body slamming to the ground with you on that first fall! Great video, felt like I was there. :) I miss cross country. At 27 I think my horse is a tad too old now, although he'd beg to differ I'm sure, the sprightly fool!
Pigeon will be 16 in May but no-one seems to have told her! I hope she just keeps going and hearing about 27 year olds that are still sprightly is inspirational! Thanks for watching and commenting :)
Oh WOW! May look like a small thing but I can't help focus on how this horse have her ears pointed forwards the whole time which is quite rare in jumping - both free-jump and classic jump. She also seem to have good rein-contact with her rider. She's guided and coordinated but not restricted or pulled in.
Pigeon loves her jumping. Even when she does stop you can see that the ears are pricked and she wants to go, but has a blip at the last second. She usually has good reason to stop... I have learnt that over the years and that's why I rarely blame her or get angry! Thanks so much for your kind comments :)
Your horse looks like such a sweetheart! The look she gives you when she refused the jump and you fell just looks to me like, "Sorry, Mom! I didn't mean for you to fall, I just didn't want to jump that!"
Also, she's my absolute Favorite shade of bay, and I'm partial to bays in general.
That course is insane!! Looks like such a blast, hope you were okay!!
your horse is BEAUTIFUL!! and that is some amazing XC course
That's a good idea, thanks for posting it! Usually Pigeon is fine with all kinds of jumps. She jumped that fence the first time but it did give her belly a scrape hence the relutance to jump it again, bless her! :-)
First time buying a horse myself! She was up for £4500 with tack and rugs, but failed the vetting so we settled at a lower price. Any horse is worth what someone is willing to pay - I know that sounds obvious but it is true. The former owner of Pigeon was quite keen to get rid of the horse (to save her the bills not because she didn't still love her) so I took her on a six month loan to start with. Not all owners will agree to that but it's worth asking for a trial period with a contract. x
Brilliant....he was so keen all the way round...until the dreaded hole!! Well done...I must get myself one :)
You're horse is beautiful, and so brave! You obviously have such a strong bond!!! x
love your videos! you seem like a great rider!
Love your horse. You can tell she absolutely loves her job :)
I think you have a marvelous attitude and a sweet way with your horse
I am a chatter box - lol! I hadn't noticed her eyeing the other jumps... but that's Pigeon-pants for you - always looking for the next obstacle. I do love her!
At about 3:30...
Pigeon: I've gone through here before. Now *you* go through the hole and I'll wait back here.
Glad you enjoyed riding (and falling) along with me! It was not all that wet and I had screwed studs into Pigeon's shoes to provide some extra grip - essential eventing equipment. x
Hey Karis! How exciting, I hope you and Rosie enjoy it! As this is training you can take the time to (hopefully) give you both a really positive experience to give you confidence for the next time! Safety first - someone nearby on the ground (with a charged mobile phone), hat strap done up, body protector if you have one, long sleeves (some people wear a stock to add a layer over the neck), keep those shoulders rolled back (even if you are in a light seat out of the saddle) [more to follow...]
Ouch! I hope you and Pigeon we're okay!! I almost came off my lesson horse today while cantering, so I know how you feel. Great job on the jumps! XC must be so much fun! :)
this was brilliant to watch! You are so in tune together :-)
i have never seen a ring jump like that! That's intense!
Loved the video....the helmet cam was a sweet POV!
