oh justgotsarcastic I talk to the horse I ride at lessons because I find it reassuring and I want the horse to know it's doing good... the horse even tests me. He is a Quarter horse and I ride western I get nervous mounting and we HAVE to use mounting stools
The horse usually doesn't care if you talk to them (horses don't talk), some of them get reassurance from a calm voice, others don't care at all. If talking relaxes you personally then fine, go for it, but if you can't relax and quiet your voice, at best the horse will ignore you, at worse will get upset. Its far more important to release your aids (eg leg pressure, rein pressure) when the horse does as asked so it has a reward, telling him good boy won't replace that at all. Also for many disicplines its a very bad habit to get into talking to your horse, for example dressage will mark you down severely for ANY verbal cues or talking.
I’m an equestrian myself, I just love the way you have gone smoothly over those jumps and how calm and collected your horse was. I love the way he responded to those jumps and also the Double bars and loggers, beautiful work and keep it up with those cross country jumps!
I wish I had a go-pro for just general out and about trail riding. I watch these full-screen on my laptop and try to pretend I'm actually riding. Nowhere near a CC rider but I wish I jumped more often than I do. Its so much fun and galloping through fields is amazing.
Thank you! But unfortunately I'm at university now and I'm not leasing Ernie anymore :( I've only just started taking lessons again somewhere else and I'm not sure what types of videos I'll be able to put up yet. I'm glad you enjoy these videos though :)
Congrats! That's an awesome place, and your cross country was so good!! I actually think I ran into you without knowing it was you haha, after dressage I think I passed you!
I wasn't actually on him, I was done by the time Entry stadium was going. I was just walking by the ring and though I may have caught a glimpse of you!
Nice ride and good communication with your horse. My horse responds so well to a simple good Boy and a pat on the neck...they love to please...horses are amazing.
Your horse is just like mine the moment he sees a jump he goes crazy he gallops and runs and just loves to jump and he doesn't even do cross country we do show jumping
Enjoyed your helmet cam. I teach school in Reading, Pa, and I make my students watch dressage and cross country, lol. If it was easy, everyone would do it! Loved your enthusiasm!
Not easy to gallop and jump from sun to the shade! Huge thumbs up from me to both of you! These are the worst conditions you could wish, such strong sun and sharp shades. You did perfect work, I wish I could even try just a half of that :-)
SUCH A BEAUTIFUL HONEST HORSE I LOVE THAT YOU CONTINUE TO PRAISE HIM :-) sorry for the caps lol im not shouting at you haha my boys are in their 20's now so we just do gentle hacks thankyou for taking us for the ride so much fun and your horse loved it too !!!
I love mine! The only sort of negative thing I can think of is that it's a little bit heavy if you mount it on the front of your helmet, but you get used to it and I'm pretty sure that's a thing with most if not all helmet cams
I felt like I was on a horse..I wish I could ride sadly I cant..I've tried to talk to my parents they say its to expensive and to far away but its like 2 minutes away from my house if you drive the only time I get to ride is when I go to my grandma and grandpas house which is 2 hours away
it is expensive tbh, it's like in UK £30-£50 which is around about $35-$55 per week, which sums up to a grand each year but don't let that stop you! save up ur money and soon you'll be on a sadle!
Beata, don't be sad! Wait, life is long - even if it doesn't look so. I had to wait until I was 22, then I had money to buy my own horse and money to feed her = pay for her each and every month. A horse, that was may be too small for me already, but a horse I loved and knew from foal. I started ridding when I was 13, I'm self taught, I've had 3 horses during the time. 15 years later I got married, now have 2 children, had to sell my last horse, because of money, but still hope. Hope and believe and try to work for that, that we will buy a horse or two once again. My children love horses as well :-) When my daughter was 2 yrs. old, I visited my friend, now the owner of my last horse - a TB mare - and my little daughter, as tall as just Debora's head, rode her, bareback in a paddock. My daughter is 6 now and I see and hear me in her, how much I wanted to have a horse when I was a child :-) Wait, life is long and you never know when it comes to that, that your wishes will come true ...
My dream used to be to own a horse and last year my dream kind of came true. I would only ever go on trail rides about twice a year and I loved it to death but didn’t really show dedication so I started researching them. I became horse mad. every thing was horses, horses, horses and I started impressing my parents about how much I know. I started researching horse riding lessons near me and after 2 months I found a riding school 20 mins away. I begged my parents and after a few weeks they decided to give it a try. We all fell in love with the place and I learned sooooo much and even started to learn how to vault and went into my first competition. I did that once a week every week for about 5 months and helped out at the barn to get free lessons. A few weeks before Christmas my mum got a text from her friend saying that she has had a pony that she bought for her daughter but she had no interest in riding so the pony had been sitting in a paddock for a year and someone needed to ride it or she would have to sell it. I jumped at the opportunity and the first week she bucked me off. I knew that this pony was hard work but I also knew it was the right decision to keep going with her. We found out she bucked because she had a crooked spine. We are just starting to get to know each other and we are going on a 23km trail ride soon. Never give up and I can guarantee you will be a great equestrian.
I'm a trail rider only, so don't know much about this event. I love this video; felt like I was flying in the saddle with him! I do have a question. A couple of times he was shaking his head around. Why?
He's the type of horse that really likes to go and doesn't really like to collect, so whenever I use my reins to any significant extent to slow him down, he shakes his head around pretty much to complain. I'm glad you enjoy the video! :D
Absolutely love this video. I was a rider like this as a kid until the stables I rode at let their dog attack my lease horse and I ended up breaking my elbow and physically becoming disabled. I've been thinking over a decade to get back into it, do you have any tips for someone with anxiety (ptsd)?
Fern Allen I'm glad you enjoyed the video! :) I'm definitely not an expert with stuff like that and I won't pretend to be, but the one thing I can think of suggesting is to take things at your own pace, never feel like you have to pressure yourself into moving faster than you feel like you're ready for, even if you have to take things in baby steps for a while. Also, whenever I do things that make me anxious, I like to have someone calm that I trust with me for encouragement and moral support, so of you have someone like that in mind, maybe asking them to come along will make things a bit easier. I have no idea if any of that was actually good advice, but I hope I was able to be a little bit helpful. Good luck! :)
Dumb question, but how do they make sure each rider jumps every jump? Are there people watching throughout the course? (I don't ride cross country so I don't know much about it)
Ye I ride a chestnut Connemara at my riding lesson school and his name is Harvey he jumps really high so after every jump we go over I say Good boy and pat him :)
Ça me manque tellement de monter à cheval.. en plus impossible de trouver des cross country en France alors que c'est une discipline qui me donne tellement envie surtout que mon cheval adorerait faire ça
Global Intifada You obviously wouldn’t take your horse, who’s probably inexperienced in eventing, and ask them to do this straight away. They’re athletes, so they train. They strengthen their hearts and lungs, but their legs as well so they can handle the jumps without getting tired. If you think 5 minutes is a lot, the Land Rover Kentucky 3 Day Event course takes around 11-13 minutes. Those horse who compete their have trained for years
I was actually a bit nervous cause this was only my second ever Training event, and I really wanted to go clear since I had a refusal on XC at my first one :)
I know nothing about horse riding and I wanted to ask a question, why does it sound like your tired when your not doing any work? Again I know absolutely nothing about horse riding ligitiment question
Horseback riding requires an extreme amount of muscle. I was unaware as well when I used to watch it when I was a kid. I used to think the horse that all the work, but to stay on the horse is much harder than you would think. You have to build up your muscles
Emerson Sirl She knows what she needs for her horse. You are not her trainer. I see horses acting like this and shaking their heads even with martingales on. Your comment is invalid

Berlin Rebhorn I know but is it a good thing he could just take off and hurt hurt 😭 him self he is a bit like my horse 🐴
Berlin Rebhorn yes. I agree😂
@@leahbegg6389 What????????????????
I find it very nice that you say things like good job or good boy to your horse because I've seen so many people not talking to their horses at all

I agree. It is good to talk to your horse when they are doing well.
Sinead Perkins yeah!!!!!
I feel lile an idiot when I talk to a lesson horse, but I still do it
i love at certain points he was like mommm this is fun, and then rembered he had a job to do
does anyone else count the strides?
all the time
I do
Yes
Before a fence? Yup lol

Wow! What a fun course! You did great!
I saw your stadium! I think you looked great! :) congrats!

+CF_Eventing oh too bad I didn't run into you! Maybe next time, my next event is Cherrylane :)
Same! Maybe we'll see each other there :)
You looked great on cross country! i was jump judging at 4 and 5. You had one of the better rides to #5 that i had seen!
Thank you!! :)

Great combo; you made it look effortless. Congrats and thanks for sharing a great ride!
He sailed across those jumps amazing....u seem like a lovely horse owner☺️
“It’s okay. Good job”-that is what should always be said when your horse doesn’t do as well as you would like.
I love how you tell him that he did good even if he didn’t jump it perfectly ❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You have such a gorgeous horse and you are amazing at cross country! Thank you for inspiring me! I subscribed!
Thank you so much! :)

How do you know where you’re going?
I love how you talk to you horse a lot and I love your horse! :)
how do you like your go pro? im in need of a helmet camera and I was wondering what your opinions were on yours.

Thanks for your reply. So interesting. He surely is a horse that likes to go! Seems to enjoy himself!
How do you memorize the course, or at least know where the next jump is?
Beautiful track
Yes! I was looking for one of these for my boys to watch while riding their spring horse toy!
At 1:40 to 1:46 i would love to see the trees they look so 👌
Omg what horse is he he jumps and lands so perfectly
Well done, do you mind me asking what camera you used?

He is GREAT in the fields and woodsy places

There is a jump judge at every fence

Any tips on x country?
I wish i could do that. It looks so so fun!
that is amazing!
I have been interested in dressage and cross country and am I the only one who would like to see this in VR? (I can’t afford lessons or anything)

Well done!
wow i hope i will be able to do that someday!!
this horse jumps beautifully
The rider sounds more winded than the horse. :). It amazes me how far and fast a horse can run. I’d have passed out after 100 yards.
Is it healthy for a horse to gallop for 5 minutes? I don't think so.
