Great vid you normally do good car recommendations but as a video suggestion could you do a video on cars to avoid maybe?
I could definitely give that a go!
I think that he gives a good overview of the issues that you may face with each car.
every car with a dsg
On average around 70% of the cars in every video 😂
I love how much information you pack in and the speed and clarity you deliver it in.
It’s a shame the old diesels won’t be able to be driven in lots of cities in the UK due to emissions restrictions otherwise I’d be snapping one up.
Go for lexus gs450h hybryd:) 0-60mph in 5.2s
Just drive in them. What are they gonna do?. stop you?.
@@asambi69 fine you....
Dude, you rock. Keep on with it bro 🤙
Cheers man!
Nice video as usual, thank you :)
Love these, would also suggest a Alfa giulietta 2 litre diesel, 60 mpg and 8 secs 0-60
That’s very decent, didn’t consider it!
Good shout! Sometimes I miss mine, then I remember it properly and quickly stop, haha! They’re definitely a bargain though.
@@alistairjheeley yeah i heard they’re fun until they break frequently 😅😂 wanted one as my first car but i don’t have the spare money for those repairs 😅🤣
@@y55en45 Mine was actually great in terms of overall reliability, a few annoying bits and pieces but nothing too expensive.
Maybe the Astra SRI a better option in terms of reliability, with 57mpg and 8.5 0-60
Brilliant video as ever👍👍👍👍
Nice 👌
I’d also recommend the ds3 dsport
THP engine is controversial as they can have timing chain , tensioner and camshaft sensor issues as common but I have heard as much good as I have bad, as long as you look after it fairly well and don’t rag it 24/7 you should be good
Just got one, 2010, 61k for 3.5. 0-60 is 7.1 and looking forward to using it
I used to have one, the timing chain stretching is an issue with the engine it is a common problem (it happen twice on my one) also keep an eye on the clutch
So glad to see the vrs on here
Like the vid. I've got an RCZ 2.0 diesel turbo and it's a hoot to drive. 46mpg mixed and 55mpg on a run. 40bhp remap. Had it 6 years no major faults but chomps up tyres and brakes.
Sounds great, glad it’s serving you well!
@@CarsWithJB
I don't normally keep a car for more than 18 months or so but I can't bear to part with it.
Oil and filters service last week Mot with no advisories all in £135.
Definitely agree with your No#1pick. I had one and with a remap and the 155mph limiter removed got it hitting 167mph. Had the M Sport spec version and loved it. Surprised you didn't have the Skoda Octavia vrs TDI on there as well.
I imagine it was a lot of fun! I’m too obsessed with the Fabia so bias was the main reason 😅
@@CarsWithJB I agree that the Fabia vrs is a superb motor. I did look for one a few years back but it was so hard to find a stock car as so many had been modded by people. Highly under rated hot hatch and an ecomical diesel at that. Thoroughly enjoying your videos. Keep them coming and let's hope your subscribers continue to increase👍
just got from work to the blessing of a new video
You’re welcome!
Great content as always, it's crazy and a shame now much of a stealth tax ulez is when so many of these lower emissions cars aren't ulez compliant
Super annoying, £12.50 a day really hits you!
@@CarsWithJB might be good to do a video on this and getting some value, performance and economy for a price that is ULEZ? It's crazy you can get a 0£ road tax car that was sold with low emission that is not ULEZ! 🥶
Keep it up jb
Cheers man!
Think I prefer a fast diesel with good fuel economy, the reason is diesel just has way more torque
Best jdm cars to get imported under £10k??? Great video :)
Mate tough week at work just got a Indian takeaway opens a new sittting watching this hope u and family are good JB take care
Haha sounds heavenly! Appreciate you
I used to have a mito QV. Was pretty quick but it would struggle to get more than 32mpg even when driven carefully!!
So I have a face-lift 2012 Jaguar XFS portfolio twin turbo diesel. It wipes the floor with all these, does 45mpg, has torque to burn, is very luxurious and has a Bower and Wilkins audio system that is incredible. As mine has 170k on the clock (but drives like it's done 17k), WBAC value it at 2k but it's worth around 5k really.
I love my rcz, amazing car.
206 gti 180 is an honourable mention, they are stinking rare now though. stripped out with just a set of bucket seats they will have a power to weight of roughly 200bhp, quicker than all these cars in a straight line and will out handle them easily on the twisties. Good mpg, they don't rust at all, very reliable and cheap to run and cheap to mod. id say one of the best cars for the performance you get for not a lot of money.
Love your videos, I’m thinking of like modifying a car yet am only into my second year of driving what cheap and reliable but fun car would u suggest. I was thinking of an original micra
I remember having a DS3 thp sport remapped to 190hp, 0 to 60 was under 7 seconds (if I got the clutch right) and about 45 mpg that was right up to the day I cooked the engine on the M25
Yeah one of the least reliable Peugeot engines I've heard, the 1.6 thp
@@Kaisuke971 Theres nothing wrong with it most of these "engine chain failures" turned out to be just the electronic water pump tensioner system! £150 fix.
They made a DS3 R and DS3 Racing with 197bhp.
It nice to see videos about cars that the normal people can afford and do actually drive. Especially for the younger generation, if they can get insurance on them.
Really surprised not to see Mitsubishi Colt Ralliart / CZT on here. 1.5 I4 Petrol Turbo, 147bhp and 7.7 to 60. MPG is 35-41mpg and a remap can see you knocking on the door of 200hp with just a panel filter. Comes in 3 and 5 door. That said, rest of the list is spot on!
Fab video. The Audi A5 3.0TDi is way faster than anything on here, mine gets 40mpg. Is fuel economy the reason you chose the 2.0 litre example at No6, or are none available within budget?
(Not sure if you've done this yet mate) but I wouldn't mind a vid of cars under around the 3 - 5k mark but a car you can easily make 300-400bhp and under a 4/5 second 0-60 through cheap Bolt-ons and a decent tune.
I've been searching for cars I can get with decent sub 5 sec 0-60 for under 5k without going of factory 0-60 times and putting a little work/knowledge in so hopefully the vid would bang. 👍
the clio rs was optimistic at best, my 200 (granted with the rear cup spoiler) would normally get 28-30 i'd say
My current favourite car & daily driver is a 2008 Hyundai i10 looking to get the 2014 model soon. Small but mighty.
Please do more in this series on SUVs
Diesels are generally better mpg as you know, I had petrol for my first cars then I've had a 220bhp & 50mpg diesel for the last 4 years. It's been absolutely brilliant but I just missed that petrol engine so much so after all that time I've gone back to a 3.0 petrol, same car model as I had back then, fuel economy is much worse but I do less miles now and I love it. Nothing wrong with diesels at all and some are very capable but just love petrol 👌
JB could you please try and do another best first cars with cheap insurance for like mo more than £1,500 to £2,000 please.
I'm about to begin searching for my first car but I can't relate to your old videos thanks to how the world has changed.
Excellent as always, J.B., probably because I can't get one, but I salivate every time I see that little Peugeot.
It’s a beaut - I’d love an RCZ-R!
Well you had 3 economical cars on your list. Missed the Saab 9 3 TTid 177bhp and 62 mpg. Alfa Gulieta JTDM 170bhp 60mpg Just 2 off the top of my head. And that's before any remap.
MiTo QV for sure!
I had a 123d. I loved it 😭😭 so sad I don’t have it anymore
Suggested topic as summer approaches - fixed-roof convertibles.
I miss my old Fabia. it was tuned to 200bhp and was still great on fuel
Cam belt on 123d?
Surprised my car didn't make it on the list. Mk 2.5 focus ST with a 0-60 of 6.5 and a real life average of 28.5mpg
2.0 diesel fiat bravo is a beast of a car and great mpg
Nice video man.. especially with cost of living crisis.. you had to sneak an unreliable BMW at number 1. DOH 🤔
197 is a banger but yeah chocolate gear box and chocolate track rod ends 😂👍
And I don’t think there’s much you can do about the gearbox sadly!
Made me laugh - I will definitely remember “ chocolate gearbox “!
I've heard Bad things about the scirocco.. Had 2 mates have one with the problem thar JB mentioned and they were both a write off...
Need to do a good mpg with ulez for cheap...ish
I can't walk to the shops without staring at the RCZ-R down the road. Wouldn't have a diesel anything, but the R version is sexy...although also means I can't buy one since it wouldn't be the only one in the street!
Really struggling to find anything to replace the porker. Turns out there aren't many cars that are genuinely fun, fairly fast and comfy, at least with the GS and 981CS as benchmarks 🤔
MX5 ND!!
I roguely like them too - I’d probably have one if the price was right! I know the feeling - I kinda feel the same with my MX-5… other than maybe the 4C, I’ve not had as much fun as I have in the MX-5 in really any of the more expensive cars I’ve driven!
@@CarsWithJB The fun for me is in the positive attention and the nice sound since an MX-5 can go pretty much as fast as is safe anyway.
@@zakeywak I've been considering one but it would just feel like a straight downgrade on the porker. Hot hatches seem the best option I think, FWD and
Can you do a video of pickup truck that is under 20k plz mate
Ford Focus Ecoboost 1.6?
Diesel at £1500 price range would be a great idea
Let's goooooooooo
Fiesta ST150 👍ulez compliant
People have a down on diesel cars at the moment which should help prices. If economy and performance are needed there is no contest.
Make a video for Hybrids under 15k
hows the 123d made it but not the 330d or 335d lol heck even pre lci 535d haha
ive owned both a n47 and m57. and you might want to join the 1 series owners page and ask about the more then common timing chain failures and oil leaks.
Hard top on mx5 dream
Properly good, so much better than the soft top imo
How can turbocharge cars be economical if you floor then you’ll see the fuel gauge move
Cooper s (non jcw) with the n18 engine (2011+) is not as bad in terms of reliability and still meet the under £5k criteria
What’s the chain issues like on the n18 though?
@@TheOnlyVibeHQ probably have to change the chain after 80-100k I think
2008/9 audi A5 3.0 TDI? 0 - 60 in 6 seconds. 35mpg+. can pick one up for 4 - 5k
Diesel all the way, but with the way fuel prices are going I might need to rethink that 😂
I mean....I sold my XF 3.0 V6 for £5k with under 100k miles on it.
0-60 in 6.7 seconds and an average (at least for me) 44.2mpg
Ate through rear tyres and the battery is shite though.
All these turbo 1.6l cars (RCZ, Mini, DS3 etc.) with so called "engine chain failures" are probably actually just water pump tensioner failures and it's and easy £150 fix! You missed the DS3 R / Racing 197bhp!
My car would never make it on to one of these lists. Ford focus st225 24mpg lol car is great fun anyway
car in thumbnail ??
I got 38 mpg from a golf r on 25mile trip cruise control 60, but my average mpg is 26 lol
A PD130 doing 0 - 60 in 7.1 seconds would have been remapped. A mapped PD150 still stakes about 6.5 seconds with 200 bhp.
as some cars take a remap better than others and they cost only £200 you could rethink
Hyundai coupe gk 2.0L is a very underrated car, they are hugely reliable (built like toyotas) , tidy handling, drive nice, beautiful looks and will do 35mpg
I'll 1up you... A celica. Excellent mpg, cheap as chips and with a mod or 2 look good even now.
@@dinono10 Had two 4th gen celicas, great cars but I prefer the hyundai coupe
@@Lander76 fair play. They are nice looking cars (the coupe) just not too quick or exciting to drive.
@@dinono10 The Hyundai coupe is actually a bit quicker than the celica and it handles good due to it's fully independent suspension. It can be a fun car when pushed ;)
@@Lander76 not the 190 version but probably the 140 version. The rear of coupe it better looking that the celica rear imo
You should go sub-£Stewie2K (aka £2,000), had to put in a Stewie2K the pro CS:GO player reference in there. Also I have been considering getting an MX-5 NC 2.0i, since Tyre Kickers had one for his used car business which I really wanted to buy, so I was pretty excited to see that one on here!
Haha forgot about Stewie2k from my csgo days!
If you can show me a scirocco for less then 5k I’ll buy it
hONDA cr-z ?
3:10 I take the Porsche 911, please :)
Scirocco and RCZ are risky options. Look up what engine numbers exactly are the ones to look for because early TSI models had huge piston rings issues. As for the RCZ, one mechanic told me to stay away from these 1.6 THP engines when I was looking for a DS3 (same engine) because of wet timing belt (!). Plenty of info on the internet how messed up these engines are. Later versions are somewhat improved but they still aren't ideal and I guess they're way above the 5k budget. If a relatively new car is way cheaper than some others of the same year, then it's for a reason.
That's an interesting thing, something I never thought about as I have a Scirocco 2012 model that I got 3 months ago, it has under 65k miles, but it's the single turbo 1.4 TSI, so I don't know how much difference between the engines offered apart from CC size. I did pay just over £7k for the car. They seem to hold their value well to some extent.
@@thesilentgametestr You might have got the improved version of this engine (early ones have been twincharged) as there was a year (as far as I remember it was 2012) when both bad and good engines were sold so you gotta be cautious about these cars. They might be an amazing choice or your worst nightmare.
@@Superkiep it's the 120hp model, so it's still the pre-facelift, but I believe 2012 was the last year before VW put it on the shelf till they decided to do that facelift couple or so years later. Mean apart from a filler flap mechanism failure and a bonnet latch failure I've had no issues in the 3 months. I do hear a tick or knock sound sometimes at start up and while idling, but either that could be not always being used or the chain or whatever loosens up after 60k, it could be something else. Doesn't effect performance or driving the car,. But it is due a service in less than 900 miles. The car sales I got it from provided 3 months warranty which I extended for a year, so I should be good for some worse case scenarios. I'm just glad I didn't buy a 2/3 year older 2ltr TSI that had 75000-85000 which was something I did eye up.
7.1 to 60 for a stock fabia vrs? no chance thats same as an r53 cooper s. which are much faster
I barely got 25mpg on my 197 with motorway journeys 😂
Should've gone with the Clio 182 (40mpg) not the 197(30mpg)
My mx5 hardly scrapes 20mpg
Fiat Bravo Sport 165. 50mpg, 165hp, 2.0tdi

Underrated and the king of them all... speed, fast , reliable and outstanding mpg
@@taiwoadebayo417 100% agree you don't sacrifice anything for the mpg even in 6th gear it pulls with out downshifting
No KIA Piccanto...????
Good luck with insurance and tax now seeing as its gone up by 80%. Paying way too much for my MB E55, Especially fuel lmao.
Good Luck to any new drivers that want a nippy car.
Try and do under 1k lol
😅 I can definitely try…
Other than the number 1 spot. What a depressing line up
Just to say if you go for the John Cooper Works mini check the price of a clutch 🤔
Mine cost me nearly £££££ TWO GRAND a few years back as only BMW had the parts and you had to buy directly from them. It may be different now so check before u buy?? Also a great car but at the same time a piece of unreliable shit!!!
I wish companies like Peugeot would make a solid car for once, that company has been around forever and they've always made shit, bar the 205 GTI
where is the mk3 MR2????????????????????? 40mpg, go
BMW drivers seats are usually always fkd and worn.
My ev does the equivalent of 500 mpg.
Under 3000 pounds please saloons
I understand that most of these are hot hatch petrols, but If your going to put the a5 in, at least spec the 3.0 Tdi.. they’re similar priced to all the others, but with 240hp..
It’s a fair challenge, only reason I didn’t is because of the ULEZ! £12.50/day for people that live in cities is no joke
Fair point! Us non-Londoners don’t think of these things. But I suppose it’s slowly being adopted everywhere else, so I see that you’re future proofing videos. Keep up the good work 👍
Insane fuel economy and reliable??? Joking!?or making marketing to death cars no Ulez or expensive to servise this will be right name?! Absolutely disagree only Skoda is exception..😉
Clio 197 and 34mpg who tested to get that a parish priest a monk from the nearest monastery or the next door nun I know there horrendous , regarding the Skoda vrs vag must have said the performance Can not be better than the Golf GT TDI 150 and 130 has they both have the same Engine as the vrs that Engine is fantastic I've had both the 150 and 130 and guess the vrs was quicker than 150 which was around 7.9 - 8.1.
The vRS definitely does it for me - not a big diesel guy but the PD130 is something else 🤙🏽
Mazda rx8 😂
The 197/200 has poor economy
34mpg isn’t too bad!
@@CarsWithJB Considering I drive (usually pretty conservatively) an 05 Megane RS with QUOTED similar figures and get closer to 25mpg I wouldn't trust it...
There's only 2 cars on this list with insane fuel economy...and you'll struggle to find at least 7 of them that run for less than 5k...your kinda struggling now.
Cars like this and no good in the world cost and petrol insurance and you're taking a gamble with a car with just not worth the hassle yes I would love a fast car but the bottom line is definitely the Hustle as the government now with old car's and under government electric cars too expensive anyway
Almost got excited you made a video without a BMW… shoulda known better
ruclips.net/video/2WIHBPARLZk/видео.html - I do love a BMW but every blue moon I do drop a vid without them 👀
