- ‘Be Here Now’ was released on 21st August 1997 and followed the success of ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’, Oasis’ biggest selling album and the record that broke them globally. The previous summer, Oasis played to more than 250,000 people over two nights at Knebworth, with an astounding 2.5 million people applying for tickets. Released at midnight on Thursday 21st August 1997, at a time when most albums were released on Monday, ‘Be Here Now’ sold a staggering 400,000 copies on the first day in the UK, with 663,400 sales in just 3 days. It was No.1 in fifteen countries and remained at the top of the UK Album Chart for 4 weeks. To date, it has the most album sales in the first seven days of release in UK Official Chart history, and has sold over 8 million copies globally.

My oasismania started with this song.
This track was released almost 25 years ago (22 September 1997), and I can still vividly remember when it came out. I was 10 years old back then, lounging on the couch watching MTV, patiently waiting for an episode of Beavis and Butt-head when this played. I remember watching every scene from beginning to end. The lyrics, the music, the sequence of events in the video, all were brilliant. It's like a whole movie folded meticulously in a 5-minute music video. It unfolds like an intricate origami. I did not understand much of the song's meaning at that time. But man, I keep playing this on my old cassette player, and the older I get, the more I find my life's context fitting on this song's meaning. Thank you, Oasis. Thank you for the music.

Always loved the ending of this song. 4:28 gets me every time.
This album has some of the bands best work on it. The version we got in 1997 was great, I loved it then and still do now. It summed up the madness of that period in time.
However, a full rethink (like the 2016 DYKWIM) to scale back the endless layers of guitars would really show this album in all its glory. The orchestral arrangements are a thing of beauty…. Don’t keep them buried in the mix!
