I save alot for stamping and fussy cutting! I also use them for masking straight lines, small die cutting, and lunch box notes! But saving for bookmarks is such a fantastic idea!! I will have to do that, especially with some of the kid's cards I make! Thank you so much for the idea and for commenting!!!
Hello Lindsay, I am so happy I found your channel. i needed this info to understand the mechanics of card making. I have watch other demonstrator, influencers, hobbyist, etc. But your tutorial is just what a beginner needs to understand the basics Thank You.
Thank you so much! I’m so happy you found the video helpful! In the description I now also have a FREE printable guide that includes the slides from the video with measurements for the different sizes of cards. Be sure to download it and print it out for easy reference!
You should score prior to cutting down the middle. That way you will have two card bases scored and cut ready to go in basically two simple steps! Thanks for sharing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found myself stumbled upon your video looking for some info - especially along the beginning and start of my cardmaking journey and adventure. So thanks again!
This is a very specific video for beginning card makers. Excellent video, voice perfect, speed of conducting the process of cutting perfect. Take care and stay safe. ~Barbara
All those left overs can be used for so many things. Belly bands that wrap around gatefold cards. Also sentiments that been stamped. Bookmarks are a great one.
That you so much for this wonderful template you created, i am new to this card making so this was extremely helpful for me. I was wondering if you have the A6 template as well, i didn’t see it included in the file you have. My apologies if I missed it. Thank you for your time and dedication.
Hello Lindsay. I am so pleased to have these sizes, especially being a beginner. You impart your knowledge very well and speak at a good pace for me to understand. I would like to ask if you have done a video on how to now do accurate layering with these size of cards. You have a lovely cheerful face. Very best wishes Jo x
Thank you so much! I have not made a layering video, but I will put that on my to do list! I’ll have to think of a way to do it so it’s simple but thorough. Thanks for the idea!
Hello, I am from Chicago. Where can I go to your blog.I’m a newbie making card bases. I would like to get a copy of your instructions. I really need them. Thank you for your help. I love your video they are easy to understand.😊
So idk if you will see this but the glossy feel on trading such as football cards,is that a type of paper and if so what type of paper and if not is it a gloss you can buy?
Thank you so much! Be sure to check out the description box and follow the link to the newer free printable I have available on my blog. It includes all the measurements and info included in this video, but in printable form so you can easily reference it while you’re creating and not have to continually look through the video for the info you need!
Thank you so much for providing the base car sizing information. Can you tell me what is the paper called that people draw on, stamp or glue down embellishments/stickers to then apply that to the base (when they make layer cards). I want to make a card like that for my nephew’s birthday. I call them “chunky” cards because of all the layers added to the base. I try it but it seems to fail I don’ t know if that paper should be a certain size and if I layer it with a 1/4″, if that is correct or not?
I use Michaels Recollection 100 lb cardstock. It’s nice and heavy, which is great for card bases. Anything under 100 lb *cover weight* can be a little flimsy and fall over when you start adding layers.
Yes and no. It depends on what weight of paper you use for your card base. A thicker 110# weight should stand up better than what I was using here. Also, a lot of weight of embellishment on the card front can cause any card some problems lol! And a really nice crease can help with standing. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!!!
For a while there I was totally confused.A4 is normal letter size in europe. 4x A4 is A 2, so that was going to be huge. Good to be aware that sizes are not uniform all over the world, and even more so identical sizenames in eu and us make a HUGE difference
These sizes are the standard US sizes and in inches. A2 cards are 4.25 x 5.5 inches. You can make two cards from a standard 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of cardstock, which is the standard letter size in the US. Does that help?? I think you may be working in UK sizes, in which case you would be right! An A4 in the UK is closer to the US A2. So confusing and I should probably have specified that these are the standard US sizes and can be different elsewhere!
I wouldn't throw those side strips away. You can get creative and make matching bookmarks! :)

Funny that you did this video. I was asked to make a card bigger than the A2 size and was looking at alternative sizes. A7 sounds good to me

what weight cardstock are you using for card bases?
Great video!!! Can you do a card video using embossing folders?
Absolutely! I will get one up in the next few weeks!!
thank you so much
Great video!!! Really helpful:)
+monica Stickles thank you so much! I am so glad you found it helpful!!

Yay!! I'm so glad you found it helpful!!
Lots you can do w/ those 'scraps'----
Never throw them out----
If you feel you have to get rid of them, at least recycle them!!
I use them for stamping images and fussy cutting and testing out new techniques! But yes, lots to do with them!
What is brand of paper?
I normally use the michaels recollections brand that is 110 lbs
Thank you!
Never throw those away, they can be used for sentiments or banners
I notice from your video and from my own experience that the top folding cards do not stand up as well as the side folding cards do.
Yes and no. It depends on what weight of paper you use for your card base. A thicker 110# weight should stand up better than what I was using here. A2 in America is much smaller than A2 in the UK.

Yeah. A2 on America is UK A4, UK A2 is 4 X A4
TFS it's fast and easy
Yes!!! And thank you!!!!
Ty so much for doing this cause I suck at measuring cards. Its always off some how lol. The Layers also.
Im so utterly confused.
A2 = 16.5" x 23-3/8"
But your video says A2 is 8.5" x 11"
The card you're working on looks like A4,
Im just confused lol
