"Good lord, what is going on in there?" "Uh... Gardening..." "Gardening? At this time of day, at this time of the year, in this part of the galaxy, with a Krakatoa thermobaric flamethrower?" "Yes" "May I see if it's in line the the three utopian pillars?" "NO"
It's worth mentioning that thermobaric weapons aren't just flamethrowers. Sure, they set things on fire, but it's the delivery system that makes them particularly fiendish. It's an explosive munition that disperses an aerosol fuel in the form of a gas, liquid, or powder and then ignites the fuel. This method allows the fuel the enter spaces that might normally be protected from other incendiary weapons, like the inside of armored vehicles or, in this case, a mech.
I'd also like to point out, the initial detonation of the fuel causes an implosion as it sucks in all the oxygen around it to fuel the burn. So even if you avoid the fire, the inverse shockwave will collapse your lungs.
Thermobaric explosives are, in short, the largest theoretical form of non-nuclear warhead *because they turn the air **_into_** a bomb.* And it's just... Weaponizing the physics of a dust explosion, like what takes out grain silos sometimes.
Best part is that the Emperor lore implies Egregorians think very similarly to NHPs and that the line is even thinner for an overmind, which is probably why Agni works at all in the first place.
I have a headcanon where all sentient beings can have an eqivalent of "cascading" and the first contact accords are a precaution prevent humans from becoming a direct competition to ra.
I cannot begin to imagine the fun a Goblin and a Ghenghis pilot could get into. "You walk up to the "wall" where there should be a door, and suddenly 3 Ghenghis units materialize out of said wall and start roasting the shit out of you." "Shiii, I'm gonna hit the one on the left, Barbarossa get the chingala on the right." "Both miss, and the Ghenghis in the middle "explodes", sending a cargo container through a real wall as you realize there was only one Ghenghis, with 2 napalm mines on the walls, and he had a Goblin on his shoulder, now theres a hull breach. What now?"

"When the galaxy is your fuel, let it BURN!" is exactly why i love this channel so much. There is just so much energy and life put into these videos that it deepens my understanding of LANCER through the emotion of it all. To stop myself before i go rambling on like a maniac, I just wanna say thanks, for everything. You gave me passion, and inspiration for this universe. All i can hope for is to spread it to my own LANCER'S as a GM.
I'm imagining a Genghis pilot who is very chill outside of combat, but otherwise completely insane in the midst of it with all those flames. The rest of their team is blissfully unaware though, but their first tip off that their buddy is not okay in the head is when they're staring into a campfire they just made for the night. This intense, unwavering glare at turns into a small grin every time they see the wood splinter and pop from burning apart. Then... Then they see them in the field. The laughter... That psychotic, maniacal laughter as they beg for their foes to scream more as their mechs melt apart, whilst being cooked alive within. This... This is no human, this is a monster born of the flames in the body of a man
I don't remember the exact skills and modules I used but I remember running a Ghengis that turned even exceeding its heat cap into a violent weapon, overdriving every turn because when I'd hit my cap I'd just, y'know, vent and explode!
Based that Zaktact is a scorch main. Also, you could probably flavour everything to be a scorch thing. Grenades = firewall, mines = incendiary trap. World killer Genghis protocol could be a thermal shield designed to encapsulate the whole mech. Lots of fun ideas
Zak understood the assignment and came out swinging: Reminding players that Ghengis exists and reminding GMs that their NPCs are not safe. Excellent video, from the flow to line delivery, love your work as always!
After watching through these mech profiles it occurred to me that Lancer would make an excellent MOBA. Every unit has a pretty distinct role mechanically with a fairly cohesive art design to sell their unique gimmick. At the same time none of them are too complex to fit them into MOBA-style game design. I can easily imagine a Genghis character model stomping across a game map in that overhead perspective you'd see in DOTA or League, firing off fire particle effects.
During my group's No Room For A Wallflower campaign, I played a former SecComm definitely-not-a-Helldiver who piloted some of the first mass-produced Worldkillers on the Hercynia front. He'd been working as a mercenary in diasporan space following the end of the Revolution (due to time Dilation and life extension, he was probably around 100-110 subjective) and turned himself in to Union, acting as a "local area expert" to the rest of the group's MSMC team. That led to my favorite build ever which was a Worldkiller with Ace and a Type-3 Flight System. The amount of Spaces I could move in something that should not in fact move that fast ever was amazing.
"the Genghis is more focused on causing problems for the enemy than stopping problems for itself" might be the most succint description of how to genghis short of: Fuckit we ball
Genghis player here, glad to see someone else unpack what the fuck is up with the Agni NHP. So many folks seem to just gloss it over or not quite understand the implications. In my current campaign the Agni in my character's mech is in deep cascade and convinced they are a pile of Egregorian neural tissue in a box. This is, understandably, not a good state of affairs.
The Genghis is so based. Aside from, y’know, the Crimes. Your soundtracking is killer. The needle drop at 7:38 is bomb. It definitely feels like an escalation.
I just finished up a Solstice Rain + Winter Scar campaign where my players had a Goblin and a Worldkiller. I don't think I need to elaborate the fun they had.
Thoughts While the Ghengis is obviously built around the flamethrower, it's solid as a straight up melee Frame.. it's insanely tough and it's core just wrecks stuff around you. Just use a heavy tactical weapon and use the heat effects to overcharge attack every turn. You have the core power and agni to handle heat AND damage everything around you. It's heat management is so good you can use overclock constantly as well as systems like ACE (+1d6 movement is huge when you have a base 3 movement) or the Metal Mark's very expensive stealth system once you get to higher LL's. If you are going to use the flame thrower, honestly, I'd almost always use the Worldkiller.
I love your coverage over NHP's everytime it comes up you bring up their unshackling mindset. I can't wait til you get to my favorite Ex-Bus Driver in the future and am more than willing to wait given how you explain all these mechs
I found that note at the end about how the Genghis and other technologies were developed on peripheral worlds but ultimately destined to be used on Union reminds me of the concept of the Imperial Boomerang (or, Foucault's Boomerang), which posits that techniques of repression and violence that an imperial state develops to subjugate its colonies will eventually be brought home in the form of fascism.
Remember folks, the Autocooler is the second best soft taunt in the game (the best being the Apoc Rail), which means the following: The GM either deals with you or you will become a BIG problem next turn, Overcharges and Plasma Barrages incoming. Also I did not expect traumatized NHP data constructs, damn
I remember the time when me and my friend were sent out on a mission to kick out some pirates in an underwater city...the only problem being that I was playing a barbarossa, and my friend was playing a ghengis...and the GM never specified if the city needed to be left intact
The thing with NHP is that I kinda understand that the normal people understand them as a Super Advanced IA, but I sometimes get questioned by one player as why the "Good Third Union" allow it to be commercialized (since they are dangerous and the ethics implications), and the Agni (being not only a NHP but one based on "torture the copy of a senscient being") is one that let me dubious
Within Union politics the rights and ethics surrounding NHP (and even advanced AI in some circles) is one of the larger issues in the modern day. The Horizon Collective being a Cradle movement supporting these issues, that has spread to other systems. On top of other issues, Third Comm and generally Union isn't a whole united body. There are looming internal political conflicts as well as outside conflicts brewing between the galactic powers. Important to remember these large, interstellar scale, institutions aren't a definitive good. When it comes to the continued use of NHP, most in universe people don't actually know the true reality of them. Alot of the Deimos event, Venus vaults, FCA, & RA aren't known by much of the galactic public. Even within Third Comm it's remained a less need to know basis, but still need to know. When it also comes to over a thousand years of galactic infrastructure and warfare requiring an NHP, the revolutionaries kept it in place. Wasn't what they were fighting for.
@@Zaktact yeah, and valid about the stuff around the comprehesion of NHP among the "common people", that don't know what truly is, or even among the whole ""important people"". And it is "okay" that NHP you have to "build rep" to gain one, most of the time. It only comes in LL3 in the licenses, it creates the level of importance of those things The thing with Agni is how "differently evil" he sounds, almost like a cartoony joke in a cartoon. The evil empire that burn a whole world and took the copy of the mind of one of its people to develop MORE WAY TO BURN by making it reliving the horrors. And it suits H.A, it's totally their deal hehe
