When I first read about the Balor it was like the words flowed from the page and into my mind, Whispering of the sweetest destruction. In that moment I knew what it was like to worship an Elder God, for I now had one of my very own.

You have passed. You are the new '. You suddenly realize, you have a Balor. Hopefully, you survive."
The true horror of a Balor is that it is not always a "This was something that was an accident" Somebody MADE this. Someone out there SEEKS out these pattern groups like they are their salvation. Because when you hit rock bottom, Sometimes making a deal with the devil is the best way out of hell.
An atypical, fun build for the Balor is to go full on missile platform with Launchers from other mech licenses (like the Monarch). Your short sensor range doesn't matter and you're able to shell the battlefield from a comfortable distance - and you're an absolute nightmare to take down because oh look you're regenerating HP every turn.
Balor is my favorite mech, a close tie with the Pegasus mainly because those two go great together. Talking my GM into letting my Balor have an Omnigun was so much fun. Just a nightmare of a monster if think about it.
My player gave me two tokens for use on our Roll20 game. The first one was a Saladin, and it was the token he used for the first little while. Then he got shot with a heavy weapon. I then replaced the token with a Balor. The other players all immediately said "what the fuck is that?". They were new to the system, and hadn't read up on what the Balor could do. The Balor player just chuckled, then pulled out the Whip.

Ahhh my favorite of the Horus mechs. Slap a heavy flamethrower on this thing and put the nanocomp adaptation into it and you have a flamethrower shooting out the mech itself for long range devouring swarms!!!
My favourite thing about Balor has always been its aesthetic. It is literally a walking natural disaster. It cannot be stopped, it will walk, it will consume, you will die. It is as inevitable as the star setting, the moons rising, like a volcano's eventual eruption. Like it said in the battle report, it's angry water. Because water will wear down anything in its way until it gets what it wants. However slow it may be.
I love the fact that Balor looks like a raid boss when in reality it isn't just a singular one - it is more a mech-scale zombie apocalypse of raid bosses, because in the lore the greywash doesn't just consume, it spreads and infects to make more Balors. I know that Horus houses a lot of existential horror, but just the idea of this Balrog styled doom knight the size of a house, wreathed in an indiscriminately disassembling cloud, perpetually *multiplying* as it marches along is definitely among the most viscerally terrifying concepts they've got going for them. I mean it is the only mech in their entire roster that is treated more as its own force in the lore and for good reason.
If you invest in IPSN licences, you can earn the FOMORIAN frame, which increases your mech's size by 1. In Irish myth, the Fomorians were a giant people, monstrous raiders from beneath the earth or sea, or by arrive by ship. The upgrade is particularly good for builds that have burst effects, like Threat or some systems or weapons, as they measure from the edges of your space and cover significantly more battlefield as you go up in size category. In myth, Balor was king of the Fomorians.

You can get a Size 3 Balor if you invest into some IPS-N license levels and take Fomorian Frame. I love mixing Balor with the strength enhancement suits stuff from the Zheng and a little bit from Blackbeard. You have a good time! The enemy doesn't.
I would love the idea that the one who pilots this mech is some Joe Shmoe who suddenly made a deal with a nhp. Using the nanobots they where transformed into a human/machine/nano bot thing and went out to do stuff. The horror of another suddenly seeing this normal looking guy venom into a large mech shape and then a swarm of hunger is amazing. A symbiotic relationship of death and all consuming nanotechnology.
I played a balor once with stealth melee build. It was fucking terrifying because it was basically just a mass of nano machines slowly walking toward you because they couldn't see you if without a check. And the only thing to make you aware that there's still a mech inside that swarm was the massive claw reaching out and dealing AP damage before sinking back into the swarm

I had a concept for a lancer party, just to be the most varied possible every pilot would use one of the from the different mechs from every company, the pilot of the horus mech would use a balor, refering to it has "him" or "my partner" making the rest of pilots nervous... not because she might be crazy for giving a personality to a machine but... what if she's telling the truth?
I had a glorious idea for an antagonist. Starts off the campaign as a showboaty techbro loser who has a mech that's part Balor part Blackbeard and a high enough level that he can solo the party if he needs to. He is very attached to the NHP though, enough to raise some red flags. Eventually something happens where the NHP castigates, and oops Faro Plague from Horizon Zero Dawn, and the party need to find the main mech and take it down before it wipes out all life on the planet.
Oooh hear me out. A balor that the idea is it tears the souls/conciousness/whatever you wanna call it, from each person it kills and makes it one of the nanites. Eventually it will consume the pilot on the pilot death too, and find a new host. Carrying on thee legacy and power rof every soul it has taken into its hive mind.
Do you guys see the glowing red dot on Balor's head as an eye and those two jagged bits below it as jaws/mandibles, or do you see the dot as some decorative forehead gem and the jagged bits as like face armor flaps you'd see on an old style helmet?
Another great video! And it's BALOR! BALOR really reminds me of the bees in cartoons and shows. I only used it in one mission but man was it fun. Also I totally did not say "Nanomachines, son!" every time I healed...Absolutely was not the first person to have mech destroyed that mission.
My Forward Camera flickered. The targeting solution searching frantically for something. The millions of tiny computations screaming at me that something was there, pleading with me to level my Thermal Lance and vaporize the empty space at my 2 O'clock. I raised an eyebrow and reset the system. The main camera blinked for a split second, and then it was there, the rolling, boiling, burning mass. It reached me. I heard the air, once empty, hiss my name, calling me to my end. I pulled the manual eject out of a reflex I didn't even know I had. Time slowed down like a slideshow, and I could read the prompt on my forward screen Manual eject detected Asset denial engaged Core temp control off Nuclear in 3... I counted the next two numbers in my head as my combat harness frantically tried to combat the hard G's of getting suddenly tossed out of my cozy pilot station. 2..1.. Light. Gloriously bright The auto tint on my helmet was a little slow to react, but as it settled, I could see the wreckage of my machine. A single white yellow flame in the sea of rolling sickly greys and blues. And behind that, the hulking shifting mass of something evil, something that deemed my existence and afront to itself. I could feel it staring at me with its hateful eyes. And then something bit my foot...
I gave my Balor a License Level of Black Witch so I have better options of… fishing. I also intend to have vehicle call ins so they can essentially just drag me around since 4 Speed is brutal
Just want to point out that both the disabling of regeneration and the regeneration itself trigger at the end of your turn, meaning you get to pick in what order do they happen. So effectively you always heal xD

You didn't really touch upon (what I believe to be) the best part about balor. No one really knows where balor comes from. It just appears. If even one nanite attaches to your mech, next morning *BAM* you have a balor now.
i imagine a horus isent a mech you print off, rather you print off your standard everest, and you install some nice smart weapons get some nanomachines going , but then you catch the attention of horus, and neventually your mech kinda just stops being an everests, the greywash expanded and hollowed out your machine till its the mech equivalent of a skinsuit

I've gotten into, or starting to get into LANCER because of your videos. And the balor caught my attention the moment you described it. Been waiting for this episode.
Certainly enjoying these lancer videos a lot. Cant wait for CASTIGATE CASTIGATE CASTIGATE CASTIGATE
I love mixing Balor with the strength enhancement suits stuff from the Zheng and a little bit from Blackbeard. You have a good time! The enemy doesn't.
Gonna tack the hydra frame and use some of the balor licenses and Lancaster licenses to make a swarm of bees that just expands and owns it's space.
More NPCs than the GM on the board.
ooh, i didnt think about this before today but now i want an empakaai chassis with every balor system attached to it
A real monster.
"I'm not locked in here with you you're locked in here with me"
I played a balor once with stealth melee build. It was fucking terrifying because it was basically just a mass of nano machines slowly walking toward you because they couldn't see you if without a check. And the only thing to make you aware that there's still a mech inside that swarm was the massive claw reaching out and dealing AP damage before sinking back into the swarm
Brutal.
@bthsr7113 it was. The DM had this guy trying to keep distance as the balor well hidden in software cover due the swarm was shrugging off assault rifle rounds every turn they didn't just try to spot me in the swarm
0:46 An odd ball for horus would be a normal chassis.
A completely normal Everest in Horus design
@@chillyavian7718 They should make a completely ordinary chassis for horus, but they’re a bunch of rumors about what is special about it (like, end of the world and that) in reality it’s completely normal, people are just paranoid about it.
Alternatively, it’s completely normal, just pretty tanki, but for some reason, everyone that is in proximity to the mach is unlucky.
Basically, it’s a tank that depuff the ennemy around it.
@@Mastercheap Oooh, maybe somekind of dodge-tank chassis? Kinda weak but with massive dodge and the ability to force rerolls of enemy attacks maybe?
@@chillyavian7718 I was thinking more of a mech that was a bit of a joke, like EVERYONE is unlucky when close to it, even the user and it’s allies, but your idea work too.
Maybe it’s the drunken master equivalent of mech.
@@Mastercheap or the true normal mech with 1 in every stat, call it the foothill
Balor is tied with Gorgon for largest Horus frame
Good catch. I tripped up there.
Glad to get more in-depth info on the Eldritch Horus Mechs, really love how friggin' weird they are.
Your sheer glee while talking about this hornet hell of a mech is infectious. I absolutely love this! Thank you for covering the Balor :D
The baelor is the reason why the genghis MK1 is necessary again
balor epidemic would be a goated campaign.. i have an idea
Fools see this and say "Oh it's for melee," But the scriptures are clear, The most deadly artillery is artillery that cannot die. Long Live Long Range Balor
If you don't mind constantly taking Reactor Stress, take 3 LLs in Barbarossa to get the Siege Cannon and overheat every time you fire!
@@Attaxalotlpffft, what a great idea
Zaktact has good videos purely because he lets you fall in love with Lancer with him haha. I love the narration and descriptions so much, it's legit so much fun to listen to.
One of the last youtuber i still get excited to see uploaded
That sounds like such a fun concept to run with.
Do you guys see the glowing red dot on Balor's head as an eye and those two jagged bits below it as jaws/mandibles, or do you see the dot as some decorative forehead gem and the jagged bits as like face armor flaps you'd see on an old style helmet?
I always saw it as a cyclopean insect in the line of metal insects. The old helmet I can also see, like an undead ghostly warrior.
So, is the buzzing and the bug bite just the way of the Balor saying “I hunger…”
Heavy Melee on the nanobot whip also means you can use Executioner to potentially pull TWO people in the Bee Blender™
All i here is that i can make a "not the flaming bees" trategy
Just love all the background visuals for the lancer vids.
blender cloud walker is my favorite
I just wanted to say because of you my ttrpg group finally stepped away from dnd and have been loving lancer.
Time slowed down like a slideshow, and I could read the prompt on my forward screen
Manual eject detected
Asset denial engaged
Core temp control off
Nuclear in 3...
I counted the next two numbers in my head as my combat harness frantically tried to combat the hard G's of getting suddenly tossed out of my cozy pilot station.
2..1..
Light.
Gloriously bright
The auto tint on my helmet was a little slow to react, but as it settled, I could see the wreckage of my machine. A single white yellow flame in the sea of rolling sickly greys and blues.
And behind that, the hulking shifting mass of something evil, something that deemed my existence and afront to itself.
I could feel it staring at me with its hateful eyes.
And then something bit my foot...
I really wanted more illustrations of the Horus mech, mostly the Balor, showing those different versions
3:06 gender euphoria
Sheer Unadulterated Terror.
I hope when you get to Pegasus you remember to say the funny line. Not that one, the other one. The one with the books.
Your description of that thing was pretty fucking metal!!
Balor: "Congratulations!: you now have nanites!
" *D o* *n o t* *r e s i s t.* "
The balor aka a tyranid ripper swarm upgraded with necron tech that you get to pilot.
You know, it's wild. I've heard so many people say so many good things about lancer. And despite being a big KSBD fan, I bounced because not one single person thought to mention "edritch mecha" or basically anything at all relating to Ra, Horus or NHPs.
Oooo I'm about to boot up CompCon & try out the build idea I've just had... Balor w/ Lilliputian Frame (3rd party), synthetic muscle netting, jager kunst, and wielding the Nimue's blinkspace greatsword
Just.
Time, Space, and Bees are not on your side.
Oops, your mech is in your bloodstream, and it ate half your Sagarmatha. But it's maybe your friend?
If it's taken the time to enter your bloodstream nonviolently, probably?
@@bthsr7113 Baelor wants to be your friend
You didn't really touch upon (what I believe to be) the best part about balor. No one really knows where balor comes from. It just appears. If even one nanite attaches to your mech, next morning *BAM* you have a balor now.
Horus mechs are just fascinating. Each is neat. But when I heard what the Balor was, I knew I had to play it!
i imagine a horus isent a mech you print off, rather you print off your standard everest, and you install some nice smart weapons get some nanomachines going , but then you catch the attention of horus, and neventually your mech kinda just stops being an everests, the greywash expanded and hollowed out your machine till its the mech equivalent of a skinsuit
So the tier 3 upgrades for balor are either, pull into the blender or throw the blender at. Ill take note for when i fight one.
Just found this channel from this video, love the style and writing. Can’t wait for hehe haha gun horse man thing that is my beloved, Pegasus *
Can't help but imagine this guy mixed with a Blackbeard and calling it a Balrog
What I have been dping for my Friday game is been building my Balor's Hp up. Next level up I'm going to be giving my boy a max HP of 20! 20!!! 5 HP regained per start of my turn or 10! with Hive Frenzy
_Nanomachines, son!_
IT'S HERE. MY BELOVED.
Ah, a mecha-Tyranid
Yes, my favorite mech. Bees.
It might be helpful to go over the 'Core Bonuses' of each foundry since that should inform you about what each of them likes to do/focuses on.
Not a bad idea.
What if... and hear me out...
What if we give sekhmet to Balor?
Just to be clear, i don't play Lancer but i'm curious what would happen.
