Do I need to route that aux cable from the screen to the aux in under the arm rest ?

If your car is NBT , basically it can switch the audio by big power (internal switch), you can test it, while the CIC car types, normally need to connect this cable to AUX in armrest box. you can test the audio, just play the music and see if it can switch the audio to speakers, if not, then you should connect it.
