In regards to your top 10 or 20 list, here are mine and that's what makes video game so great! For Amiga,..Archipelagos, The Bard's Tale, Carrier Command, Dark Seed, Déjà Vu, Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, Marble Madness, Captive, Qix, Shadowgate and Turrican. Like books, video games are responsive to individual taste and interest and like literature, the are evolving in style and content. Who would ever thought that Minecraft would surpass Skyrim?
Nice list! I was a PC gamer from a very young age (starting from an ancient 286) but lot of my friends owned an amiga, so I'm pretty familiar. It's interesting how many of these games were crossplatform and looked very similar on both systems (e.g cannon fodder) while syndicate visuals were lightyears ahead on PC :D
I got Zool to the Amiga 500 as a christmas gift back in the day and it came boxed with 3 chupa chups along with a poster of Zool holding two more lollies. A walking advert more or less but I did love the game and the lollies..
Wow I just watched this and had the ultimate flashback to my youth. Wow, I never realised I would remember. I'm not on eBay looking for an amiga but unsure what to buy to play a these games. C-64 or amiga.
The Amiga... what an absolutely joyful time of my life. Personally I miss GODS on your list 20 - 1. My wife really hit my heart (or what you call it), when she gave my the 512 kb RAM expansion, so that I could play Gods, even though she didn't liked the game herself. She loved playing Lemmings though :-) Afraid of forgetting some of the games I played a lot back then, I can also mention ANOTHER WORLD that are not on your list. But I guess none of us will have an identical top 20 Amiga list afterall. Thank you for the uploads.
Body Blow Galactic!!! I've been trying to find this game where one of the characters say's "Get out of here" while doing the V sign. blessed my elder brother who was into amiga back in the day so i could experience these games.
Dogfight - I remember hating this game. I only had an A500 at the time and I remember this game being slow and clunky compared to games like FA-18 Interceptor or Falcon. Stunt Car Racer - There's a version of this with eight new tracks and also a version with smoother framerates on faster systems. The WHDLoad for this game supports both of the extra versions and lets you apply the turbo patch to the new tracks. Zool - I literally only ever loaded this once. I had a pirated copy and it took forever to load. I didn't really like the game and so I never played it again after that first time. Body Blows Galactic - I kind of prefer the first game. The various alien characters were interesting, but I found a lot of them hard to use effectively. Syndicate - I loved this. I beat it and also the data disk, American Revolt, which was severely cut down from the DOS version. Actually, as much as it pains me to say it, the DOS version of Syndicate is better, It has more variety in the levels, like different types of vehicles driving around, etc.
I played Syndicate all the time on the PC. I'd persuade the whole town to get into a car with me and then get another guy to blow it up so there'd be this growing spread of burning, dying people. good times!
Cool vids matey, I have many fond memories of the Amiga 500 and 1200. Some of my favourites are Barbarian The Ultimate Warrior, Elite, Worms and The Secret Of Monkey Island ;)
Do you the game where you occupy robots, getting from one to another as they only hold for some time. They had numbers with their rank and it was hard to make a jump to a too high level. The name could have been "Droids"?
@@Darkleaf-Music There was an Amiga version! Will try to find an emulation. From the WikiPedia page: "Andrew Braybrook's Paradroid is a masterpiece, there's no other way to describe its sheer brilliance." :-) YES!

A lot of good games there, but as you say we all have different preferences and for me there is no better example than Jurassic Park- for me it was rather disappointing, and the 3D section I actually found very frustrating/unenjoyable and I quit shortly after emerging back into the isometric outdoors world , and never got to see the T-Rex (seeing screenshots of it in magazines had prompted me to buy the game!). Superfrog is another that I found underwhelming, though not a bad game. Nice quick movement and very smooth scrolling, but it felt too basic and uninteresting to me, and though the graphics were quite smart they looked rather cheap as well. That said, I actually have it from GOG on my PC today, and having played it, it's still a nice smooth game with decent graphics, but just doesn't bowl me over at all.
What kind of evil mastermind was behind Cannon Fodder's later levels? They were impossible! The one where there is an enemy bunker in the middle that shoots rockets at you... sheer nightmare. The horror... the horror :D
Just found this, missing a lot of my faves but worth it for the nostalgia, could be time to dust off one of my machines and play on the real thing, emulators are OK but aren't quite there for me.
Something like Stunt Car Racer is a prime candidate for some sort of remake as far as I'm concerned. If I were the head of some developer or publisher, say Activision, these are the sorts of games I would be looking to remake. I would have two or three of those dreadful modern games with their lootboxes and paytowin mechanics to bring in the money, but then as boutique projects, to give a little something back, I would be releasing remakes of games like SCR, not at the 60 or 70 buck price range, but for something like SCR, probably around the 15-20 mark. Updated graphics, 30 or 40 courses, a choice of vehicles each with their own traits, couple of SP game modes, local versus, online versus, leaderboards, job's a good 'un.
Stunt Car racer TNT is the way to go, enhanced frame rate, I couldn't give a fuck if its blocky polygons, it's super fast with and accelerator, too fast once you get to the higher leagues, so fast you break your car just going round the track. Whole new experience in my opinion and I loved it as it was back in the day!
WoW, only one of your games I liked to play in the old Amiga times: Syndicate. And I had a lot of bought Amiga games. Maybe my all times favorites are in your second part...
I learned to paint and animate on the Amiga 500 and worked in the games industry for a few years, we made stuff for the Amiga but I worked on stuff for the PC and game consuls also. I had every model of the Amiga but the 2000 was badly built and even though it was more powerful I tired of it and went back to my old 1200 {I still have it}. The story of the Amiga is tragic, I used to go into electronics stores and draw on the Amiga live, a crowd used to build up lol, no one knew you could paint on it?? they just didnt market the machine for the groundbreaking amazing thing that it was, such a shame.
@@cruachankeith aye I hear you, these lists are always hard, so many innovative and genre establishing ideas back in the day. Today its just sequels out the a$$ ;]
Jurassic Park was such an under-rated game. there's more than 1 game with the name, a bit like toejam and earl - the different games are very different, but this one you are showing was truely a great game. strange for amiga to have the worst version; usually it had the best version, like golden axe, street fighter, etc. man you have a lot of Team17 games on this list ^.^ but syndicate, what a game that was.
What's the name of the Amiga game that had a top-down view, I think you controlled a tank and when you ran over soldiers it left a small blood splat. I think you had to find your opponents base.

I have to agree, I got it on GOG and it's still so good. Even the GOG version loses little touches, like the formatting screen, this guy apparently never saw it because his didn't work, but to this day it is one of the funniest things I ever saw in a game. It had endless 'just a little bit longer...' type messages while formatting, ridiculous ones about getting a cup of tea and stuff. The thing I always remember is it had one message saying 'just five more minutes...' and then various other messages would come up, and then after five minutes of that a message would come up saying 'just ten more minutes...' as a kid it was truly hilarious to be fucked with like that during a slightly nerve-wracking formatting process.
SYSTEM ERROR - I didn’t see it? I literally know if off by heart, did you not hear what i said??? I tried so many times to format a disk. i had a legal version and no other issues on the amiga :’(

I tried to make a top ten... Then a top 20... Then I realized there were so many games I loved on the Amiga I couldn't do less than a top 50 - and even that would be hard. Of games that just pop up in my head - Ruff 'n Tumble, ATR, Lionheart, Darkmere, Dragonstone, Heimdall 1 & 2, Hired Guns, Space Hulk, Kick Off 2, Goal, Player Manager, Championship Manager, Sabre Team, Space Crusade, Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge (and the 2 sequels), Formula One Grand Prix, No Second Prize, Vroom, Super Hang-On, Turrican 1, 2 & 3, The Sentinel, Simulcra, Gunship 2000, Uridium 2, Paradroid '90, Secret of Monkey Island, Simon The Sorcerer, Beneath a Steel Sky, Operation Stealth, Typhoon Thompson, Wings of Fury, Wings, Prince of Persia, Crazy Cars 3, Arabian Nights, Switchblade, Rick Dangerous 1 + 2, Rainbow Islands, Bubble Bobble, Great Giana Sisters, R-Type 1 & 2, Disposable Hero, Apidya, Stardust & Super Stardust, Alien Breed 1, 2 & 3, Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Master, D/Generation, Floor 13, Dune 2, Populous, Mega-Lo-Mania, Millennium 2.2, Micro Machines, Rodland, Project X, Warhead, Wolfchild, Thunderhawk, and I'm not even done yet. Still play a lot of these games and it's amazing how many of them still hold up in the gameplay department.
Ha! I could NEVER save mine either. I never did figure that out, resulting in having to play in marathons. I got so good at knowing the levels I could keep The first three alive through to about campaign 8 or 9 I think the record was. Cant be 100% sure but it was a long time. I tried it on the emulator on PC and you could save in mission, proper save scumming it! Syndicate, not even top ten!? XCOM!!!! not even featured! :) Tut tut
Some of my favourites :
Ishar trilogy,
Dungeon Master,
Captive,
Lemmings,
Rainbow Islands,
Turrican II,
Speedball II,
Worms,
Stunt Car Racer,
Vroom
I'd still play the original worms any time... I didn't know it was an amiga game as I've seen it only MUCH later on the PC.
I totally agree with the unquantifiable feeling that the age of the Amiga was genuinely special. I golden age I can only dream of now!

you bought? I think you might have missed the point of having an Amiga back in the day :P
I know exactly what you mean, this was tough. Working on part 2 now though!!! woohoo
Looking forward to it.
:) Tut tut
Where's Arcticfox, Archon and bardstale?
Do a top 40 video :)
You forgot wings of fury
Where's sensible train spotting ?
5'38....wtf with Lazer ? A dab ?
New sub buddy
Thanks so much!!!
I'd disagree that some of these 3d games look like shit. Simplistic of course because that's all they could be but still stylish now
Fair point, I think they look shit by todays standards but back then they were cutting edge.
