I love this movie, what an array of acting talent: Academy Award winners Beatty, Pacino, Hoffman, Kathy Bates and Estelle Parsons, Oscar nominees Charles Durning, James Caan, Michael J Pollard and Seymour Cassel, TV legends like Dick Van Dyke, John Schuck, Henry Jones & Bing Russell, Roger Rabbit's voice Charles Fleischer, Broadway star Mandy Patinkin and pop star Madonna, also Glenne Headley, Allen Garfield, Paul Sorvino, James Tolkan (Principal Strickland in Back To The Future), Catherine O' Hara (Kevin's mom), Rat Pack movies veteran Henry Silva, etc !!! This movie is fun,1-derful entertainment to enjoy !!!
The makeup effects, color filters and sets in this movie were genius, and Al Pacino was great. However, this movie's main problem was shoving virtually every major Dick Tracy villain from the 1930s and 1940s at you, then killing most of them off so quickly. The original comic strip was great because it allowed time for each villain to be developed in terms of his or her characterization and plots against Tracy or society in general. This was just confusing if you hadn't read the original strips.
This was back in the day when sequels did less money than the original, and they figured the movie might not get a sequel so why not throw in everything? I felt that way about the first _X-Men_ movie: they put in all the popular characters on the first go to get the money and move on.
It wasn’t an issue for me. I didn’t read the comic but I did see the comic strips in the Sunday paper and I liked it. So for people like me who didn’t really know this was perfect!

312vandal how is it a remake if its a completely different story? A cuban drug dealer in miami and an itlaian mafia guy in chicago dont have much in common besides being gangsters. I think you are confused because they happen to have the same movie title
Shame they omitted Prunface's Nazi connections. Would have made the part where he said "I would not be caught dead in a place that permitted Gambling." in full Swastika, even more hilarious.
My favorite plea bargains they gave it to me to ask you by the generation I went to school with with their families over file system error when dress down days for example this incident report
Considering how the Dick Tracy comic strip had been coming out since 1931 and a lot of the earlier manga creators were inspired by American comic strips, this is pretty accurate.

The Brow watches a popular children's show, then gets on the radio and acts out a plot, like the time WAAF played out Pete and Pete's garage band episode, by putting a popular new band's song on the area, then crushing their entire set and destroying the song's record forever. They were banking on the film making "Batman '89" type money. It did make money but not that level.

The amount of acting talent in this movie was crazy. Pacino, Caan, Forsythe, Madonna(yeah I know)Hoffman, etc etc.

They tried to get De Niro to play Dick Tracy, when it didn't happen, the director played him instead.

Flat top was a good henchman.
William Forsythe was a perfect fit!
I heard Flattop was the most popular Dick Tracy villain. Prunceface was the second most popular
In the comics, Flattop is practically Tracy’s arch enemy.
