James Welsh haha, honestly it was a recipe I came up with almost 3 years ago now! I never took the time to revisit it until recently which lead to this video :-). Thanks for watching James! Hopefully see you soon
I only had bentonite clay, and using it at 100% in this recipe is definitely too crumbly, so kaolin is a must! Also, as a side note, the oil and wax mixture at that ratio makes an amazing lip balm in case you have extra ingredients and something to put it in.
Woow where have you been all this while I have searched tonnes of this kinda project until I met yours its easy it's affordable its customisable its pure joy Thank you so much
Give this man a GOLD MEDAL. I made my own and the hold? FUCK. No clay on the market will give you this kind of texture and hold! Be sure to edit the recipe according to your own hair. I skipped bees wax and added another 30g or so of coconut oil. I have medium to thick hair (straight).
This is an awesome jumping off point and very much appreciated. If there were a follow-up video though, I'd like to know how ingredients differ from one another and what replacements/alternatives there are. For example: Bentonite vs kaolin [vs rhassoul]); I read that bentonite absorbs better than kaolin, but this says nothing about properties as a hair styler/holder, etc. Does one cause more hair tugging than the other? Is one creamier/lighter/easier to apply? What effect water would have and if the ratio of what it's replacing would change. Could it replace oil? Does oil cause shine/greasiness and would cutting with water limit this? I have fine hair and have had issues with some matte products seeming greasy, even when applying relatively small amounts. Why there is 5x more coconut than shea oil? Would argan oil be the best for a heat protectant and how much should be used? These are my main questions. Again, just giving the base is awesome and something to start with, but any extra info would be great for making adjustments and somewhat knowing what to expect. Thanks! xo
I'm gonna reply to one question. You can't substitute oil with water. Pomade that contains water still contain oils, you need something to emulsify themtogether, and you need to add something like tocopherol to avoid bacteria development. Making a water based product is way more tricky than this recipe.
Hi Luca, thanks for making this and sharing your recipe!! I made the exact same recipe with the extra 15g clay, but it's a really hard and struggle to get it in my hair. Would you reckon less beeswax or less clay?
Less clay, I tried reducing bwax on my own recipe and upping clay and it made the pomade harder, I can still use it but I prefered the texture of my V1 recipe.
I made some and it wound up pretty grainy. I followed this to a T. And its hard to rub in my hands. It also left my hair kinda grey tint looking. Great hold tho.
I tried to make this and I love the hold and texture but it looks like I have dust in my hair. What's causing this? Did I add too much clay and how can I correct it in the batch I've already made?
I guess you could heat up the batch until it's soft and add a bit of coconut oil to make it smoother and less crumbly (which is what gives the dandruff look).
Sounds like too much clay. The coconut oil and clay ratio will give you the consistency. The shea butter and bees wax contribute to the hold. Play around with the ratios. Took me about 5 attempts to get it right for my hair and desired hold.
If you make a batch and use it up within 60 days, I don't see why it would need any preservatives. Even if you keep bees wax, coconut oil etc at home for a couple of months, it doesn't go bad. And the clay should add a further buffer to the shelf life.
Nope. Because it's already been done by uncountable, so there is big competition...unless you have some magic formula that wipes the floor with the others.
You need to give more attention to homebrewers, and less Salon products! The homebrewed products are taking over man. (Lockhart’s, Shear Revival, Nostalgic Grooming, O’Douds, Flagship, Arcadian, etc)
Coconut oil has many many many benefits to you and your hair beats all others. But I am guessing you can use any other oil like Virgin olive oil or maybe even Avocado oil
Ommmmggg this worked out so good! I tried to make my own and filmed the process but it went SO BAD it was embarrassing! Your a wizard
How long will this last on your hair? Also what about the hold?

Hey James, how was the hold for your hair? I have similar hair type.

Thanks heaps ! I tried this out tonight, keen to try it. So much better than paying top dollar for petroleum filled products

Did you make any more clay? Can you show some more recipes. I would like one that is super strong hold and matte finish.

I made your recipe and it feels great. But after a while without using it it has become very hard. It is normal?
Can I skip bentonite clay and use only kaolin? Cheers
Do you need to let it cool in the fridge? How does it stay without spoiling? Thanks!

Explain about holding power & how easy to wash off this thing?
what size container do you use ?
Ohw I'm definitely going to try this soon!!
U really got hella classy profile pics both here and fb. Really nice ones.
What’s the best way to get rid of the stickiness when running between the hands?
Hey Luca, you think, how often we wash hair with shampoo is good ?

Do u think u could do that Luca? And thanks for the heart🤘🏽❤️
Missed the videos
Maybe a mute point, but do you know if you used Sodium Benonite or Calcium Benonite? Thanks!
ooh, I will have to try this!
What would you suggest to also add for heat protection?
How donyou deal with the poder that is not small at all? Or did you get really nice kaolin and bentonite powder?
What do I need to do differently to get a softer, smoother, spreadable consistency? I'm finding that my end product is too hardened.
Do you recommend your same ratios for a beard clay?
Does it seem dry in your hair? Not oily and shiney?
Using shea butter is neccesary??
Nice video bro....can you make tutorial for hair wax?
What is the shelf life of this clay?
Hmm I tried this recipe. It doesn’t seem to dissolve completely and it looks like having dandruff. Any advice? Thanks!

You nailed it bruh..😵😎
Glad seeing you bro miss your videos
Thanks bro! A lot more on the way
No preservative? and how about the hold: strong or medium?
thats what i was thinking, clays need a preservative right?
@@KneePainAustralia No idea, bro.

wouldnt you use a preservative with a clay product? thoughts?
I think it's because it doesn't use water. If you want you could add a little vitamin E as a preservative.
Nice
How easy to take it off this clay?
Can i get hold with it??
What's the expiry?
Whos been here since the start?!
You ar amazing brotha
hey,do i need only kaolin or bentonite?or do i need both of them?is beeswax optional?
He literally said in the video lol
I want little shine, soft wet look, any good mix?
Can I use liquid coconut oil?
what about the life expectation of the product?
Smart for when your in quarantine
How does this compare to Fish clay?
Hi, i tried the recipe but the hold doesn't seem to be strong enough for me. Is there anything I can do to increase the hold?
You must add more wax
Add some microcrystalline wax
hey which Bentonite Clay did you use or recommend?
Any
Wenpnly have coconut and almond oil, can this work
What is the reason for using two types of clay? And why is it fine to just leave one out of you want?
Using only bentonite only will make it crumbly so either mix it with kaolin or use kaolin only.
Bro please tell if the shea butter should be refined or unrefined?
Refine better
Can I use Fuller's Earth clay?
Fuller's earth is not very fine so you'll probably get lumps in your clay.
scientists could never
Thanks for this man! Your the best
Very interesting video man.
Brian Kop thanks Brian as always!
Whats the shelf life bro ?
What about fragrance?

Is making homemade hair clay and wax and Selling them a good business idea?

Nope. Because it's already been done by uncountable, so there is big competition...unless you have some magic formula that wipes the floor with the others.

Refine better
Im not comfortable with using shea butter
How about mango butter?
I just tried the recipe, I think it has a little too much beewax, I will try next time less.
I'm guessing this chap is a friend of Dorothy.
