One of the best instructors I’ve ever seen on YT. well done
I’d love to see you do a video on time stretches and tempo changes!
Great stuff and here is why...music is all about math...how it relates to time and space...you do not have to be a genius...just a student of basic time. And the best part is it comes naturally. Without thinking we bop to the rhythm of the music time. He breaks down what we do naturally and helps us to translate it in a very practical way. Well done.
Very insightful.. good job .. looks like you actually teach music.. that's rare in tutorialists
Yeah! Been teaching this stuff for a long time, finally getting it onto YT!
I’m so excited to get my Maschine+ and my S88. I think they compliment each other perfectly.
This is a power-packed presentation. Thanks for sharing.
The tip on using the Grid gave me some great rhythmic ideas I want to try. Thank you for inspiring Jef!
So glad to hear it, thanks!
Thanks Jeff. You explain things really well. You are a very good educator. I thought maybe this was going to be too basic for me, but I actually learned some new things towards the end. Thank you for making these excellent videos.
Excellent! Yeah it starts off basic, but some of the later things I had to research to get my brain around the way Maschine does it... swing!
@@jefgibbons these music theory videos are fantastic. Really easy to understand. Are there any books on music theory you can recommend? Books for a beginner, easy to understand books? Thanks
I don’t think anyone using a MASCHINE or any other electronic rhythm instrument understands how fundamentally important this lesson is. Much thanks 🤘🏽
Hi Jeff loving the maschine tutorials. Could you please to a vid on mastering and mixing in maschine? Keep going mate love your work.
Ive worked out why this guy is a complete legend?! Its becasue he's Canadian, amen to that!!!!
Wow, I was almost background listening to this while you were going over the basics of the notes and quantizing, but I realized I never really thought about switching note resolutions to quantize and I'd been doing that *all* wrong. And the info about Swing was all new to me. I just thought of swing as like, a "groove meter", but when you switched it over to Triplets and they sounded the same my mind was BLOWN and it all made sense. Thanks for being a great teacher, Jef! This is the stuff I love about music theory, even though I know so little - getting to the science of WHY things sound good is fascinating and makes me wish I had studied music in college.
This is the best video on getting to know the Maschine that I've seen on RUclips. It has really helped me a lot. Thank you!
Thank you so much Jeff, you're a great teacher. I really enjoy watching your videos and learning so much about music, theory and production.
Thanks Stephan! Really appreciate it!
Hey Jef, I love the way you break things down. Just found your tutorials and they are like finding an oasis in a desert :) Great quality, humour and easy to follow. Thank you for sharing dude!
Passionnant. Well done
Man, you you just blew my mind with swing settings.
It’s a weird thing on Maschine!
Just came across this video! You do an awesome job of breaking this down. This is defintiely going to help me make my tracks a little more fun especially with drums.
Just a brilliant video. One of those - this is the video I wanted but hadn’t realised moments. New to production and easy to skip past basics. Great stuff
This is the second video im leaving open in a tab hoping i will watch and learn when i have time :D. good stuff.
Love this, thanks!
I've been binge watching your Maschine videos all night! Great job. I have definitely learned things that I never knew before.
Glad to hear it!
Jef Gibbons when I sample into Maschine how do I know what key it is in? Should I find the key after I raise it up or down a semitone?
You are an excellent facilitator, congrats!
I like your content, so far everything I’ve seen from you has been valuable!
first time i heard 5/4 in deadmau5's track fml i lost my mind !!! good stuff Jeff, its always good to just hear some of these basics again
Thanks again Steven! Yeah, weird time signatures are just so fun... especially once you can really sink into the weird groove!
Brilliant. Your videos are so helpful.
Dude, yes. Finally some instruction that resonates. Thank you!
Love for you to get into detail with the time signatures you mentioned. Not much out there on time sigs in maschine
Thank you so much for all your videos I just got the machine mk3 the other day and these videos are so understandable for Pete sake. Lol you probably heard that a million times but that’s awesome. Thank you again stay safe and well Godspeed 🎶🎶🎶🎶
Thanks Ron! So glad to hear it!
Thanks a lot Jeff I was confused in quantization in logic. Now more thongs are clear for me! I'm gonna try quantization on Maschine and logic to practice that! Very nice explanation!
Great lesson Jef... keep'em coming! I would love a tutorial on Machine / Kontakt in Logic.
Thank you Jeff...again very educational...good job man
Thanks Reaz!
VERY EDUCATIONAL.... GREAT INFO....
Good video once again, very well explained
Supercontent.. so easy to follow and just great for learning. Really like this, it really helped me. Will def sub
this clarified a lot for me ... thank you
Amazing video! This is just what I’ve been looking for. Thank you Jeff, keep them coming 🤙
will be waiting for harmony and melody
Hi thanks for the great tutorials. I wondered where you got the case for the mk3?
Jeff, you have some dam good videos. Subscription activated. Thanks for the work and time.
Really appreciate Hassan! Glad they’re helping out...
I see that artwood on the desk he a good guy
Awesome..Thanks Jef..
Hey Jef! Very good videos! I’m seriously considering the MK3 to use to add simple drums and bass to vocal and guitar recordings of my gig performances in GarageBand. Would love your thoughts on that. Thanks.
Superb stuff, trying to get my head around all this kontrol stuff - guitarist.
Jeff Gibbons, I love you for this.
Thanks Simple Jack! Glad it helped...
Thank you for the video! I own a Native Mikro MK3 and work within Logic Pro x. Could you please do a video for Macshine/Logic Pro X users.
Thanks! Yeah... been thinking about getting Logic just for YT vids... maybe some day soon!
Is there a way to switch from 3/4 to 4/4 during a song or do I have to just record no grid style the whole way? Thanks & I love your work sir! =)
Dude not gonna lie, you know your shit with theory
Very good teaching skills, thank you,I've learnt alot from your tutorials.
Thank you for the informative video...What is your camera gear ?
2nd video today Ive watched of yours I went ahead and subbed you have a knack for tutorials dude.
Thanks! So glad it’s helping...
Thanks again for another awesome vid Jef, you've really raised the "bar" on music theory education with this one! :D
Nice one ;) thanks!
Hello Jeff,
Thanks a lot for sharing knowledge.
Could you one day address the notion of drunk Groove (or J Dilla feel) is this possible on maschine ? Logic and Ableton allow a midi edition making things possible and easy. but about maschine it's a real mystery ?
Big up from Paris France 🇫🇷
Awesome! Thanks
Glad I found your channel very informative videos and great quality. Just subed! Gonna watch as many as I can. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the kudos! Much appreciated!
Actually saving me so much brain time mate, good job on the video! 8))))))
Jef, you need to produce your own cheat sheet 👏👏👏👏
Great idea John!
I always struggle to merge loop-based music making with arrangement-based such as Ableton arrangement view, which I use for release version of tracks.
Thanks for the video, really love your style. Any chance of exploring chords and scales in Maschine? I’m not musically trained so I’m looking into the circle of 5ths and using Serato sample to get the key of tunes I like but feel I’m missing something. Your ideas on this aspect of Maschine with your teaching style I think would be amazing. Have you also checked @blezzbeats on RUclips? This guys machine tutorials are next level and like yourself he has an amazing teaching style. Thank you for the knowledge 🇬🇧
keep em comùing Jazzy Jeff
nice job. if you could do a who to integrate Maschine in Cubase
That was my very first video. Scroll back in my videos and check it out. Thanks man!
Jeff, love the videos. They are very informative and I am learning a great deal, thank you.
Might I ask where you got that case for your Maschine?
He had it listed under the show more above - Maschine wood frame from www.artswooddesigns.ca
Cool thank you for helping an keep things easy Jef 😎🔊🎶
+kiel hall you’re welcome! Thanks again for the comment... keeps things growing!
This is really cool tutorial! Love your videos. I have a question about the bars for recording in Maschine... how do you let it be free form to automatically follow however many bars I record....this is great for when I'm free styling and then I can edit and select the notes to fit in how I like.... there is a way to do this in other DAWs like logic or Garageband...
One way I do this is to simply turn off the auto loop and whatever i played which is grayed out I can manually extend the bars to fit how I want them afterwards
thank you are awesome. I could pay for your music lessons...
definitely earned my subscribe and my thumbs up, love your vids A++++++++
love your video.
Much understanding. Big thanks Jef. How many inches your monitor is?
My monitor screens are 32" very useful for the tiny GUIs on so many programs!
Hi! Can Machine be used without the hardware? I don't have much experience in creating rhythmical parts (having a classical education background...), but I think it would be good to be able to create them when I need them. Or is there other software that can do the same, using Cubase? Thanks!
André van Haren The software is sold only with the hardware.
Thank you so much, this helps out a lot!
Now how would I match the rhythm of the melody with the rhythm of the drum beats? Do I follow the same principles here or is there more to it?
That's a tough one! It would totally depend on the sample... I think I see another video I should make!
How do you switch between solo and non solo of tracks. Haven't found this yet.
Hi Jef, as usual a very useful tutorial. Thanks. I've just bought a Maschine and tutorials like this are priceless. A little off topic, but my Maschine has the odd glitch and click when playing a song and the CPU gets even just a little busy. I'm using a Lenovo with an AMD A4-9125 processor with 4GB RAM and obviously something is coming up short. Question is, is it something I can fix by upping the RAM to 8 or 16 GB?
Thanks! Yeah, I'd say for sure you need to go up in RAM! Whether that solves the problem or not, you'd be quite limited at 4 GB. Modern Operating systems would be hogging most of that already. Though it does sound to me more like a CPU problem. If you can find some cheap RAM, give that a go first!
Hey Jef. Thanks so much for your reply. My gut feeling agrees with your every word, I need to try more RAM first but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a CPU issue. The computer is brand new and the processor is supposed to offer a higher operating frequency than the Intel Core i3. I will go down the RAM route and hope that solves my issue. Thanks again, Jef.
omg so helpful, ty!
can you do a reggae beat and show where the bass drum fall etc. ?
Veeery Nice!
Thank you so much :)
+MHAOXE you’re welcome!
Jef, whats the best way you recommend to distribute your music Maybe earn something from it
+antoni tarallo I’ve sent stuff to places like premiumbeat.com. I’d recommend contacting library music places like that... some people make a killing cranking out tunes!
Great stuff! Merci :-)
I'm gonna sample your section on swing "dah dut dah dut dah dut dah".
Is this your hobby or profession? Great video.
+Professional Hater hmmm I teach music production/ composition part time... then make music and videos as my daytime gig! So making these vids ties into both professions. The postitive response to these videos over this last year has inspired me to keep making more videos. Now I’m thinking of pushing it even harder!
@@jefgibbons What kind of music do you make?
I make instrumental hip hop beats. But not really what you hear now days. More experimental.
This is my new favorite teacher / advisor for music;
Hey Jeff,
Where can someone with not too bad credit get like a 3 or 4 pay off loan for some nice new
NI "Maschine" Equipment?
Im thinking a new mk3 with software,
I just need a couple 3 months to pay it off ..
Times are tough out here in da streets...
Yesss Drummmmmmsss!
Yessss theoryyyyyy! (cue the groaning students!)
is a bar and a measure the same thing?
Yepp.
Man I would like to find that T-shirt.
Www.redbubble.com is the place!
Thanks.
Super
+herbertgarf thanks!
quantizing is only meant for good players in order to fix the last 1%.
I was like this dude looks smart, so I'll watch, but I bet his style is like butt rock classical garage band....Then he said "Dilla"...subscribed
+steve sicily dang! So what about me said “Butt rock”? That is just........ not me.... but thanks for the sub, brother!!!
Oh I was greatly mistaken....your a beast man...i love the tutorials...the beats are great...Im an asshole...life is good
+steve sicily just messing with you! (Messing back I guess) you made my day, thanks Steve!
did you say Dilla?
the king of cool time signatures!
did you give up? harmony and melody tutorials never came
Dude! These take time...
@@jefgibbons I just noticed noticed you have a new one on notes lol
@@theopacalypse here's the best part... it was your comment earlier that inspired me to do it, so it was for you after all!
@@jefgibbons Thank you very much, appreciate the love.
