    • @ICaligvla
      @ICaligvla 3 года назад +14

      A lot of media is made to generate controversy because people eat chaos up no matter who they are or what they stand for. People are chaotic creatures and all though they may dream of a peaceful life they constantly seek out chaos and the macabre because its interesting. Perhaps even breaks the mundane of everyday life. The media understands this and takes advantage of it. The more outrage = the more clicks and attention. The more clicks and attention = more profit being generated. We live in a world ruled by money.
      It's not an issue that lies with just twitter but facebook, tumblr, 4-chan, FOX, CNN, NBC, AOL, Corporate and business media, etc.

    My take on "woke culture" is this:
    You have the right to believe whatever you want. That's totally fine. What ISN'T fine is for you to shame, and belittle others who don't share the same views as you do.

    • @anja1627
      @anja1627 5 лет назад +241

      Kyle Hughley so true! If you don’t share the same views as they do they are quick to “cancel” you. Whatever happened to respecting other people’s beliefs and principles? no the cancel culture exists because it is perceived as the only way to win against conservative and nationalist views that have no commitment to truth or decency. I remember feeling this way back in 2004 when John Kerry was running. He was literally the best candidate...vietnam war vet, chose to leave college to go to nam, wounded, went back to nam, then a life in law enforcement, then serving in congress. Weeks before the election a lie came out that HE SHOT HIMSELF to get a purple heart. And there was nothing we could do about it...lying always wins. The response is to become hyper sensitive and attempt to use shame as power, as the right uses dishonesty. And the right also uses cancel culture but they don't have the moral authority to use it as much. A white rich guy doesn't have that authority, he can lie, he can't cancel. It is complicated, but I agree that activism requires a level of restraint because any form of intimidation, violent or non-violent will result in a backlash that undermines you efforts.

Obama is the only president in decades that has not reached 3% annually. Trump hasn’t either but he has had a 3% GDP growth in 12 months; something we haven’t had since George Bush was in office. Obamacare affected many small businesses like my dad. He was one of the worst presidents we had.

    "The combination of common-enemy identity politics in microaggression training creates an environment highly conducive to the development of a 'CALL-OUT CULTURE', in which students gain PRESTIGE for identifying small offenses committed by members of their community, and then publicly 'calling out' the offenders. One gets NO points, NO credit, for speaking privately and gently with an offender - in fact, that could be interpreted as colluding with the enemy.
    .
    Call-out culture requires an easy way to reach an audience that can AWARD STATUS to people who shame or punish alleged offenders. This is one reason SOCIAL MEDIA has been so transformative: there is always an audience eager to watch people being shamed, particularly when it is so easy for spectators to join in and pile on.
    .
    Life in a call out culture requires constant VIGILANCE, FEAR, and SELF-CENSORSHIP. Many in the audience may feel sympathy for the person being shamed but are afraid to speak up, yielding the false impression that the audience is unanimous in its condemnation."
