      Walkers are inferior to the helicopter. Replace those stupid legs with a rotor system and you have a weapons platform that is better in every way. It's not like they're too heavy, if they were the ground wouldn't be able to hold their weight.

If you also replaced the chin guns with a fast firing medium/heavy blaster cannon on some sort of rotating mount, it would become a perfect anti-guerrilla weapon. Add a shield generator on top and you could even fight low flying starfighters with it.

  • @lajoyalobos2009
    @lajoyalobos2009 4 года назад +21

    They underestimated the "miniature wookies." These are all good reasons. In the Mandalorian they actually used the AT-ST correctly, with ground support near the legs. On Endor, it was chaos and confusion, very difficult to get into position and all discipline went out the window. Theoretically, the Empire should have cleared the ground as you stated around the generator and there'd be no Ewoks suddenly emerging from the trees, and the height advantage could be used as well as provide a buffer zone and a sort of "no man's land" which could stall the rebels indefinitely or at least until the imperial fleet above destroyed the rebel fleet. Again, this comes down to underestimating the primitive locals whom they probably had little to no resistance from prior to the battle and setup of the shield generator.

I mean the whole moon is basically a military base and a shuttle that was suppose to arrive didn't show up? Did it have a malfunction? Are those inside alright? Or, maybe, are they actually a Rebel infiltration team and instead of dressing up as Imperial personnel, which would have been far quicker and easier then wait for some fleet to arrive, and we're all in danger...... *who knows!?* Because no one went out to find it and the only two scout troopers currently in the field seem to be botanist of some kind.

      That probably could be explained by 'more then one of the same last name' and the fact Anakin was told, Padma and the child were dead.
      However, 'if' Luke was force sensitive and the Empire was on the look out for it, then them dropping off the child to the Lars was a dick move on Obi-Won's part.
      "Okay, so this is the son of someone you've literately met only 'once' and only relations you have are through marriage. However, he should be dead.....maybe, I mean I kind of didn't make sure the job was done but that doesn't matter as the self appointed Emperor will be looking for force sensitive people, who are highly unstable with 'God Like' powers that could kill you and only a Jedi knows how to deal with. But if the Empire finds you with this kid, then it's torture and death for you. Okay, I'm going to live in seclusion and far away from that, bye."
      If I had made Star Wars I would have made it clear that 'Aunt and Uncle' were more 'blood related'. Say, Aunt Beru was Anakin's younger sister. Not 'twins' but a younger sister. Skipping a lot to make it fit with the prequel trilogy, Beru is force sensitive but chose a different path. A smaller sect of force sensitives that are on Tattoine to 'heal' it from the Rekkada or however the Hell you spell that species name. After the Clone wars she left to raise Luke and used her force powers to conceal him, which broke when she died....and when Vader reviled himself too Luke to be his father make the death of Beru more tragic as Vader ordered the death of his sister.....Aw, Hell, why not? And instead at Daga- the place Yoda was at, Beru makes an apparent to revile that.

    • @JediMasterZim
      @JediMasterZim 4 года назад +2

      @@madisonatteberry9720 Alternatively, if you were to rewrite it to make more sense in-universe regarding lore, maybe have Luke originally having had his official last name changed to Lars or something, and when he meets Obi-wan on Tattooine on top of everything else he learns he learns his real name, and THEN afterwards takes on the Skywalker name. It would somewhat help explain why no one ever so much as raised an eyebrow at the last name, kind of like Leia having her last name changed.
      Speaking of Skywalker children and last names, how the heck did neither Palpatine nor Vader even notice adoptive daughter of Senator and prince consort Bail Organa and Queen Breha of Alderaan, and later Imperial Senator herself, Leia Organa never was noticed to be force sensitive. Like, Palpatine was usually on Coruscant, Leia's main place of work as a senator would have been Coruscant. Leia would have been close-by to Palpatine, how would he not sense it? In fact, in the original pre-Disney Star Wars Legends lore they actually met in person at least once, and Vader was there too, yet neither of them noticed. I don't get it.

The main tricks that wrecked these robo-chickens on Endor are really hard to do in an urban setting or just in a more industrialized world in general. The issue with the AT-ST really is its role, not really the craft itself. It's too big and bulky to be a scout, and too lightly armed and armored to be a proper support vehicle. An Infantry Fighting vehicle would have greatly benefited the Empire. A vehicle that can provide armored transportation and heavy fire support(typically armed with auto-cannons or low pressure cannons) would work greatly to the benefit of the Empire. While heavy weapons would be overkill and likely counterproductive in an insurgency type setting thanks to excessive collateral damage, something like that would work very well in more conventional combat.

    There were-two-versions of the "Original" OT AT-ST. The one we saw in ESB, and the one we saw in ROTJ. The ESB Walker was 'much' cooler looking with its tall legs, longer more narrower head and drive train. The ROTJ Version had squat ugly legs, and a bigger top heavy head. That was also fatter making the AT-ST's profile and face on appearance look less menacing.

    The weapons systems were also more advanced than what you'd typically see on most anti-infantry armor systems at the time. The heavy blaster cannons could be overclocked to delivery rapid fire at the minor expense of a slightly shorter overheating time, the grenade launchers fired high explosive impact grenades which were great in urban and trench combat, and the missile launcher fired a semi-active homing missile, which was also effective at dispatching groups of infantry and hostile light to medium armor platforms, and entrenched positions, and even low flying, lightly armored aircraft.

    Anyone who has played Battlefront knows that the AT-ST is the absolute best anti-infantry vehicle and definitely not bad in an anti-vehicle role. It is absolutely devastating to infantry in almost any environment. I remember using one on Mos Eisley in one of the earlier games and it was a complete slaughter against the rebels when you managed to get it. It's height advantage allowed you to attack the enemy hiding in the narrow alleyways and it's legs could very easily climb on top of the smaller buildings to increase your height advantage! And of course on Mos Eisley there are now other vehicles available, so your only threats are rocket launchers, and the AI are trash with those.

  • @coraldiamond1922

    I think the obvious reason here is that the empire never expected ewoks to be a problem for their troopers or their vehicles. The empire clearly thought that the life on endor was primitive enough to not cause any issues for their operation there since they put so much effort into making it a long term occupation on that planet that the thought that ewoks or any other life couldn’t severely put the empires operation at risk. That’s probably also why they didn’t decide to clear the forests around their sites.

    To be fair, urban warfare (or any fighting in cramped and closed environments) will always be any vehicle's nightmare (or at least a pain in the back), especially if the enemy had the initiative and surprise on their side.

    As much as I'm not a fan of the endless revisions and special editions, I think the AT-ST could save face by adding little details like landmines strapped to the ends of the logs the Ewoks had set up against it, so it's the mines, not the logs, that crush the AT-ST's cheeks.
    Similarly, have a minefield the AT-ST is going to simply bypass by using it's "toes" to disarm the mines, barely slowing it down. It's halfway through the field when the Ewoks release the logs to overload its balance systems and its head falls square on a mine, blowing it up.
    This way you have the low-tech solution of a high-tech problem concept that Lucas wanted to convey, while also maintaining the dignity of the AT-ST.
    In this case, the high tech problem is: How to use Anti-vehicle mines against a walker designed specifically to be mine-proof. It also shows more synergy between the Ewoks and Rebels tactics, as if they had planned it beforehand, with 3PO translating of course.

    simply Rebel plot armor. If that was taken away then the Empire as whole would have been a much greater threat as a professional military force.

      Well, that and it's easier to transport one or even several ATST's than even a single ATAT on account of size and weight. I mean, unless you were to disassemble and reassemble an ATAT whenever you deploy it, you'd have to use a really big transport with just the right dimensions just to transport one of them in a relatively quick and mobile way.
      Also that would be an interesting rethink scenario.

      Simple...the armor is great against small-arms fire and even light anti-vehicular weaponry. Two large masses (logs that size are *massive*) slamming it from either side? Not so much. Keep in mind that in medieval days, a mace was a very effective weapon on an armored opponent for similar reasons.
