The AT-ST was so much fun in the OG Battlefront games! I really love marching across the battlefield blasting anything that gets in my way. It may be a chicken walker, but it's no chicken in combat. And I love this thing in Empire at War. So much so I use it as one of my mainline ground units alongside the 2M Repulsor Tank.
The best anti-infantry platform in Battlefront 2015 and Battlefront 2. I just love it when sweats and idiots with lightsabers try to attack it thinking they are playing Fallen Order, only to end up trampled and decimated by walker.
I remember playing the Endor nap on Battlefront 2 (2005), as rigged against you as that map is when playing as the Empire. Trust when I say, you'll never mock that thing again, because I'd never be able to win without it.
I enjoyed playing wizard baseball with these things in Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor. Though the double tap rockets in Survivor were annoying to deal with
@@vladtheimpalerofficial I actually have. I had more fun with Cal than Galen against the chicken walkers though. Maybe it's because there was actual repercussions for getting hit with explosives in the Jedi series than The Force Unleashed games
The top speeds for AT-STs and AT-ATs always struck me as lore for lores sake. We never see STs moving that fast and I think people don't appreciate how fast 55+mph is, and how weird it would look for a bipedal walker to move that way. It's like the idea that a single ISD turbolaser bolt is as powerful as a nuclear bomb. Imagine that being in literally any video media and the implications it would have.
Honestly as a dude who has an appreciation for pintle-mounted weapons thanks to 40k models, I actually really like the AT-STs with the snow trooper and gun turret ontop. They looks super cool.
I had surgery when I was 5 or 6, and as a gift for being so brave through the surgery, my parents gave me a toy version of Anakin’s ETA-2. I specifically remember playing with it in the hospital, and not being able to properly extend the radiators because I had a monitor on my thumb
They did do a pretty good job on that one. From what I read it was supposed to have a t-Rex vibe, and they nailed it. Plus as far as I know, the first instance of combat lighting. (Yeah, probably more for irl "red eyes" but it still stands.)
Would love to see SW Walkers (AT-PT, AT-ST, MT-AT, AT-TE, AT-AT) vs BattleTech 'Mechs (FLE-17 Flea, HMC-13 Hermit Crab, ZPH-1 Tarantula, WHM-6R Warhammer, KGC-000 King Crab)
16:23 this design predates the Empire and was used by the Republic at Kashyyyk in the comics, and I reckon that it must have been much more than just PR since the base design outlives the original Galactic Empire by centuries and is still used in the Legacy era.
Watching this video reminds me of the ATST that tripped due to a log trap, but that probably only worked because the logs were still rolling when the ATST tried to walk over them.
The ATST was meant to be an IFV that could perform some scouting capabilities. Its not a tank. Looking at the base ATST's armament and sensor systems, this is pretty easy to tell. The ATST should excel in urban environments, where its height and armament work together. Those sensors make it hard to sneak up on, and with the chicken walker moving, its not an easy target. Also Meta didn't say this, but those legs were almost impervious to blaser and laser fire, only that cab and gyro could be exploited. the Empire already had plenty of excellent tanks and repulsercraft, namely the S1 Firehawke, 2M, and 1H. The ATST is an IFV, and fills an important role The design got better with the ATST/a, where it got thicker armor, improved gyro, and heavier weaponry, namely the chin mounted AV cannon, but this made it a little less suitable against infantry, and more against armor.
That walker ain't surviving urban combat. It's tall and wobbly and an easy target for anti material rifles sniping components and bazookas that would be hiding under every nook and cranny and above.
@@coryfice1881 you can take down really anything in an ambush, thats why ambushing works. and yeah if this was the real world, shit like this would be cannon fodder for sure given it was against any moderately modern military, but this is SW. In an ongoing urban conflict, and properly supported by infantry, this thing would indeed be hard to kill whilst providing good fire support. Also, I think you underestimate how hard it is to hit something with a rocket or shaped charge, especially in combat on a moving vehicle, just look at the middle east. That shit was tough for terrorist fighters, especially if the MRAP or truck they were targeting knew they were there. Also "urban" combat doesn't necessarily mean the ATST is firing at enemies 20 yards away in all directions. Often, it's moving between streets looking down alleyways and roads sometimes 200+ meters away. If the enemy is right under the foot of this thing, you have already lost. Now imagine this ATST, which is smaller than a truck, bobbing up and down, side to side as it slowly walks, while keeping a fix on you with its gyro. I am not saying it's impossible, sure ATSTs are likely to be destroyed, thats the nature of war. But it wouldn't be no small feat with how conventional SW small arms are. You would require armor or air support in order to kill this thing in most circumstances.
Its always bugged me how the hell the ewoks just happened to have the log roll trap set up and waiting. The pendulum too, but less so. Im sure if pressed, they would say they were already set up for iirc the sasquatch looking local super predator. But it seems unlikely the imps would be cool with that level of activity near their secret installation.
A quarter of metric ton per leg.... That seems a bit too light for me with those hydraulics and electronics but who knows, maybe they can create it 250kg heavy with some light material. But when you consider that our "primitive" anti-tank guns way more than 1 metric tons in the 75mm+ caliber, sometimes in themself it's a bit sketchy. Just wanted you to know that's all🤷 (I chose that weapon caliber because that is the first caliber that is proven to be effective against even heavy tanks. Any lower caliber is pretty much ineffective even against the most common medium tanks)
Considering the range of a RPG in comparison with the standard AT-ST weapon systems, i highly doubt that this walker could shoot you before you get a shot of. The sight holes in particular and the stabiliser are excellent sniper targets.

It was about half as tall, single seat pilot was completely enclosed. It was in pretty much EVERYTHING from games to books to cannon until the clone wars. The idiots that made clone wars thought it was good to put a clone on the legs of a scout walker. How can you put this much effort into this without researching
The ATST is a terrible scout vehicle simply by the fact that its too big. Its the height of a 2 story building. A city with taller buildings is the one of the few places it can actually hide for scouting. The ATRT did that job much better since it can much more easily hide, especially when it lowers the body portion down to the ground.
If you have all this advanced technology why not just build a Titanfall-esque mech? You can give it any weapon you like + it can be equipped with missiles and other fun stuff. By Titanfall-esque i mean a piloted mech with hands and no head...because you don't need a head.

It saddens me that despite this video that's explaining how good these Walkers are. It doesn't matter, in a Versus Battle, the Fact that Imperials just have bad aim will always be their weakness. I hate Disney. 😢 How could the empire exist when their army cant even shoot for shit.
