I still find it so fascinating how all of your lighting is just wire struck through a hole in the wall or ceiling and then the fixture actually attached to the surface. In North America we're required to have a box and then the fixture is attached to that. Always a guaranteed solid attachment point and the connections are all done in the box. Only exception to that is recessed lights, and they have to have a junction box attracted to the fixture, or one up in the ceiling. So many interesting differences.

Bonding is a grey area. Simple principal is this, in NORMAL use is there a possibility of the user getting an electric shock if by touching EXPOSED metal while they are grounded , If other factors can influence the installation and make it unsafe , IE water steam heat vibration or the breakdown of the insulation of single insulated cable or wire then you bond the exposed metal .Note the word normal and exposed , that capping covering those cables was NOT EXPOSED so no you don't need to earth .

Your honesty about mental health issues (in previous videos) and just needing some space (as you described here) is so refreshing - thank you. It would be too easy to edit videos to make life seem perfect. You are doing an important service by talking openly about these things - for yourself and others.
On an electrical note, what about bonding metal stud frame partitions? My house has them, the cables hang freely within the void but as far as I can see the frame is not bonded at all. (as from new in 2004).

Good to see you back. Hope things are looking up for you! On the rcbo with 3x conductors each I think this is a good scenario where a split rcd board may come in handy. If you have 3 x circuits being inconvenienced by a trip then why not save cost even more and do a split board with an mcb for each radial? Maybe you have good reason for doing it your way. Looking forward to hearing any feedback.
    Craig.

In my house all the capping fitted in the 80s was bonded. A short stab of every metal capping was taken above the ceiling, then a length of 2.5 bare earth wire was taken to every cap. It was pulled tight for some reason, some were like bowstrings.

Hi Nick, thanks loads for that video.
I'm glad I'm not the only one going through the stresses of running a business, doing a bit of RUclips and also getting offers from companies abroad offering to showcase their products.
I have dismissed loads of companies that I don't feel would provide good products.
I think it was Amy The Sparky that I had a chat to about not selling yourself out to cheap companies, otherwise the good brands won't touch you!
Some days I just want to stay in bed all day and do nothing, today was one of those days but I managed to get through a hard days graft!
One thing I'm really grateful to you for(amongst others) is leading me to Tradify, I would not be anywhere near as productive as I am now if it weren't for Tradify.
Good video mate, look forward to the next one.

Wack all them cables in a junction an chuck it on a 20A breaker, its no different to an A1 radial . As for earthing ,think thyself lucky, back in the days of the 15th edition it was recommend to bond any metal window frames in the bathroom, and i remember a long discussion at collage regarding the bonding of the metal plates we all use when you have to notch a joist.

  • @jemseed
    @jemseed 2 года назад +5

I would ask her if we could do away with any of the socket on the Eco 7 DB to reduce the the amount to deal with. But would only go as far as doubling them up due pyramiding of cables in the rcbos, even though they may be tightened at the time the pyramiding of the cables coupled with heat over time could make terminations loose. Not to say Im right its just how I think. Good luck 👍👍👍.

I've had to make some wooden plinths for those old metal wall lights to fit the connections somewhere. I'm no carpenter but I was quite pleased with the effect.
Multiple sockets in to one RCBO seems to make perfect sense. A 16/20A radial with three sockets on it would be reasonable, so what if each has its own cable?

Hey Nick, sorry to hear you were under the weather. I hope the short break allowed you a bit of a reset.
I’m sorry I can’t recommend anyone, but if you’re after someone to help with the general admin side of things, why not ask for someone who can help with all your editing and ‘content’ and also do the secretary bit as well; chances are if someone knows how to edit videos they will have enough basic computer literacy to also take calls and better organise your diary for you. I’m not sure how much luck you’ll have finding someone, but potentially worth a shot?

Arrgghhh Hated those wall lights, I came across a lot of these including at my mum's house, they were lethal in my opinion. Often found the fitting had gone live and fused the circuit by the cables having been stuffed into small gouged out wall recess. The owner would have changed a light and moved the fitting causing stress failure of the circles. As you said the screws were tiny and not fit for purpose. Topped off by normally being on wall papered walls, they were a nightmare. Rant over..great video though.

Weird you can have multiple (double/triple/ect) tap wires into each breaker. Here in the USA there are only a few breaker manufactures that permit it, and the breaker will show right on it if you can. However with AFCI(AFDD) required for most all breakers now, you can't do that anymore and only a single wire is permitted per breaker. 😁👍

No dramas on combining those single-socket circuits into fewer RCBOs in my view, your logic is sound. Can't see an argument to maintain them as entirely separate circuits on individual RCBOs.
Agree no need to bond tray, unless it is an extraneous-conductive-part, introducing a potential into the equipotential zone.
Insulated and sheathed cable can be treated as double insulated, according to BS 7671.
Further evidence of this is in how class 2 installations and appliances are supplied, with insulated and sheathed cables!
