Eric - That "expansion joint" is to extend the longevity of the bridge through cold/warm seasonal changes. The materials of the bridge expand during the hot season and shrink during the cold. We have those on pretty much every major bridge in the US even.

WoW nice part 1 in Kumamoto .... You two have a dynamic way of putting these trips and journeys in a way that keeps your audience captivated from beginning to end ....as hard as I try to find a dull moment or part of your vids, I cannot, I'm usually fully immersed .... Video was top notch Kyde&Eric swagger stylie and much enjoyed 👌, so much that the 78 mins went by way too quick 😞. Here's to hoping part 2 is coming to my vid alerts soon 😉

Cool video. It all looked amazing between the image quality and the activities depicted. The paragliding is almost a natural thing so despite being uncomfortable with heights, I don't mind the idea of that at all. It feels safe from a gut feeling perspective, which I am sure isn't a logical way of looking at it. I'd be more hungry for the food at Takamori but I am stuffed from too much Christmas related eating.
    0:45:08 Kitty!
1:04:53 I could watch the bubbling gravel for ages. Sixty tons of water? Wow. Assuming your little old lady friend is using metric, 1 ton = 1000 kg. The inventors of the metric system designed it so, one kilogram of water is always 1 litre in volume. So that is a lot of water.

The internationally accepted language for aviation is English, and while in radio communications outside of English speaking countries it isn't uncommon to hear people communicating in their common native language, typically it is all done in English. Hence the helicopter pilot spoke good English. Most pilots are required to be relatively fluent in English so that they can not only communicate the usual instructions/requests to controllers, but also out of the ordinary emergency situations.

Yes it is steam (ground water) although it can often be mixed with other gases such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrochloric acid, hydrogen fluoride, hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, hydrogen gas, Ammonia, methane etc.. some can be harmful, some cause acid rain, most are greenhouse gases etc. The composition varies a lot from volcano to volcano though so just call them volcanic gases because it could be like anything but primarily it's water vapour.

Thanks for that explanation, I wondered too what's actually in there. So it's not healthy to live to close to some volcano's then. Kyde and Eric should regularly ask questions for the benefit of all because someone will know. They didn't do a flyover? I would have liked to look down on and the risk that it would puff just as they fly over are is slim. Would it be possible to fly down low into the crater?

I'm halfway through this video which was a surprise full upload. Lucky you compared the tickets, 60 bucks vs 270. The restaurant was very cozy, everyone sitting in groups on the floor in one big room grilling. Many different foods, I wouldn't eat the crab the rest. This is what stoneman did during the long winter nights in their caves, not to bad. We're at the jump now so lets see how that is going.

Haha, it's a big insect Kyde. It looks evil like a scorpion. When you did eat it whole with brain, eyes, guts, ass and organs I was mystified. Swampy jungle is your habitat. Snakes, worms, spiders and a variety of tasty slimes and bugs.
McBugs, yay! You turn into a good presenter though. A fluent vocabularist with presence and charm. I could invite you over for dinner, whenever I empty my vacuum-cleaner for bugs haha. A la Carte: Raw snake with crispy bugs and spiders on the side. Dessert: alive worms in rat blood. Sure you couldn't resist. So.. what do you drink? No, don't tell me, I'm serious, I don't want to know.

Kyde and Eric that's awesome. It's pretty hard searching for other brands in Japan. I wear a size 12, and the stores usually just have until size 10 when i was there.

The brand "Smuckers" here has pre-packaged sandwiches called Uncrustables that are very if not identical to the first sandwich you guys tried. Of course it's just PB&J and Strawberry Jam, nothing crazy like Cheese Cream or Mayonnaise.

Hi Kyde or Eric or both, any ETA for part 2?
Just stumble upon your travel vlog(?) yesterday and had been through almost all of it and it was entertaining. And how does Kyde was pronounced Kiddy? :) On the side note, you might work on your website a bit. A wordpress template could looked better, just my opinion tho. I wish that your full time job was to travel around and produce good videos. Kudos to both of you.

thattomato ETA unknown at the moment. Glad you have enjoyed our videos. I pronounce my name just like Katie, but spell it funny. We have thought about changing the website, but have focused more our actually putting out videos. Sadly, we both have full time jobs that aren't traveling. We both have jobs in Tokyo. -Kyde

A good example of you (Eric) sounding a bit Japanese is at 1:16:35, when you said "Is it spicy?". The inflection in the last syllable goes up a bit. You guys are getting 'Nihongized'. ;)

Go to a second hand shop. I am sure you will find massage sticks for sale. Get the kind with the flat mushroom head. It works wonders, especially with someone else manipulating it. Eric's back problems will get sorted with that.
