I'm working on a model for my architecture class and I'm focussing on the model more and listening to you guys and soon as Erick said "midget with a knife" I burst into laughter
The prickly calybium or capsule you picked up at the waterfall is a chestnut, not the water chestnut variety but the "roasting by an open fire variety."
Lived in a house with only a bathtub for about 6 months while the shower was being installed, and holy cow is that hard! You don't realize how convenient a shower is until you don't have one! Regarding the Izu Peninsula, the waterfalls remind me a lot of New England, specifically the waterfalls and hiking trails of central New Hampshire where I partly lived growing up :D When I move to southern Kanto next year, Izu Peninsula will be top of the list to visit!
Thankyou for taking me on a great adventure Kyde and Eric. I may be sitting the in Australian heat, but you both always transport me to another realm with each of your videos. Love your work and can't wait to see where you take me to next!
Absolutely wonderful! Another adventure with Eric and Kyde! Thank you so much for sharing this with us! You made me very happy today! Eric, you had to be a train in your previous life, because your sound of a train in the tunnel was so real!
Chestnuts can be flat, often there will be two or three of them inside the prickly ball. The flat one was in the middle of two others, so the shape is squished. When you heat them (Chestnuts roasting by an open fire) they will steam, soften and split open.
You guys are THE MOST WONDERFUL thing that ever happened to RUclips. You're like a television series, but way better! From the heart, thank you so much for everything you do.
I just found this channel today. You're videos are great and I've been on a Kyde and Eric marathon this whole afternoon. I stopped for moment to comment because at 13:56 Kyde was pointing out on a map where the two of you were at. She "walked" past the "You are here" dot and said "now we''re around here". For some reason I found that hilarious. Too funny. :D :D :D
+Warren Yazzie Glad you found us! Haha, I noticed that too when I edited it and laughed. Sometimes it can be easy to miss things when shooting, obviously. Whoops! -E
Yay new video! I'm so glad it's a long one too. Went and made dinner to go along with this. It's hard looking at all of your food and not being able to try it :(
Kyde and Eric Lol, thanks for asking, I made some vegetable soup, it turned out a little bland so I need to change the recipe next time. By the way, I really love both of your personalities and videos. I watch a lot of travel-type videos online and you two are definitely my favorite :)
I had to pause the video after the first 5 minutes because I wanted to comment that I love the quality of the video image. It looks soo clear and the frame rate is so smooth, I love it!!!...ok, now back to finish watching, love you guys!!! =D
Kyde and Eric But haven't you guys change the speed of the video at all? or used the function to minimize bumps? I notice the same thing sense the last video on BK, but I just thought it was a speed thing...
Ricardo Llamas Well, we have always shot in 60FPS, but RUclips just recently started displaying in it so I started rendering the files in full 60FPS instead of 29.whateverFPS. My new render settings are of a higher bitrate too to make up for the extra frames. But these files are really big, this was over 14GB and took 2 and a half days just to render. Not sure how I can keep that up! -Eric
Hi guys, great to see a new video out! Every time I watch one of your videos I wish I could be there in Japan sharing your experience, especially the food! Keep making them!
I love your videos!!! In Argentina we have also the seven waterfalls in the province of Misiones. Is one of the Seven Wonders of world. With your videos I want go to Japan. Greetings from Argentina!
Was playing football with a buddy who had all those cool looking hedgehog balls in his yard. Japanese chestnut trees. Landed on one of these with my palm face down into 4 of them. OUCH!
My favourite part about this episode : at about 17:30 Kyde talks about the length of a snake and gives it, simply, in the metric system ! Adventures in the world did that to her, an American ! That's a bright girl !
Hi! This was the first video that we ever saw of you guys, and its the one that got us hooked to your channel! We found your channel after our first trip to Japan, and watching your videos really motivated us to go back. We actually went to Izu on our most recent trip just because of this video, but the largest waterfall was closed. Thanks for making great videos, and inspiring us to travel and try to make our own too!
Oh bummer the waterfall was closed! Hopefully you still had a good time down there, it's pretty uncommon for tourists to make it down to Izu, but we were really happy we made the trip. Glad you guys found our videos and they have motivated a return trip! -E
Another great post guys, well done! I've been on a cool local train in Gifu with the same huge windows and great sight lines, it was the best damn thing.
1:15:28 It is Kabu(カブ). In English, Turnip. The orange tiny eggs on the spoon look like Tarako or Mentaiko. It is popular food to put on the rice Gohan. The misterious condiment with bitter sabor on the Soba tray may be Myouga.
This made my day! I look so forward to your videos! You guys have a natural talent for this. I tell people about your videos all the time in hopes they enjoy as much as I do. I really hope you guys get to a point where you can produce travel videos for a living, I regularly check in on Patreon in hopes you've met the Europe goal :)
Kyde and Eric Yeah I would have. It totally makes me jealous. I desperately want to travel again. I'm sorta tied to my hometown here due to a medical issue. I'm perfectly healthy but only thanks to a monthly IV infusion of a drug that's crazy expensive and I would never be able to afford if I left my home Province's 'Pharmacare' program. So I am stuck between government eligibility requirements and the treatment schedule. I'm determined to find a way around it, I haven't found it yet though. Maybe remission of my condition due to sheer force of will?
Kyde and Eric Crazy for sure. In a way it's own adventure, and I've learned a lot... but I'm getting tired of it and want to explore the outside world not the inside world.
I am loving the videos. I have lived in Japan for 14 years and I share your wonder, surprise and bemusement at this crazy country! Shimoda,,,,was the town where the first American Ambassador lived,,,Townsend??? Whatever, I am enjoying your adventures,,,,Stay wonderous,,,,thankfully, I still am!! Please keep the videos coming! My wife, Yuki has enjoyed your takes on life here. She has never really thought about what a Gaijin has to go through! Oh,,,,and we are going to Yamanashi because we watched your video! Thank you people! ;)
+webbyinjapan Awesome, really happy to hear you have enjoyed our videos! It's fun to hear Japanese people are getting to see their own country though the eyes of a foreigner, I love that. Enjoy Yamanashi! -Eric
Half way through and it's already an awesome vid guys, well done as usual. I've finally gotten a job in Japan, so hopefully my wife and I can start making Jvlogs come April about our adventures over there ^_^
Not sure if someone's answered these already. I tried reading through the comments but got distracted. Yes, Japan has poisonous snakes. They make a type of alcohol with the habu snake by putting it in a jar and just filling it with the ingredients. It's meant to be very strong and good for men's libido (Luke Holloway did a video on it.) I think that bone may be from a horse. Ps I love your videos :)
i smile every time i see a new video by you guys :) plus it was a long one, so i could keep my word about just one more video before bed. Thanks for sharing! ya'll rock my socks.
Man this is great. You guys are right up there with AbroadIn Japan. This is a quality standard that a lot of Japanese youtubers should follow. Keep em comin!
First time commenting! My boyfriend and I enjoy watching your videos. It reminds us of our amazing trip to Japan.Btw, the yellow pickle thing is a sweet/sour daikon. and the white thing is probably pickled turnip. Fish eggs are meant to be eaten with rice. Think of it like furikake/umeboshi on rice :) Thank you for your videos! I will be contributing through patreon soon :) ps: this is random but i recommend going to "Koukaibou" in Tokyo for awesome ramen!
MrNyantoast I am so happy that we get to be your first comment!!! Great info! Please keep that coming. There is so much to absorb here and it's great to have experienced people like you to help us understand! I really wish I had put the fish eggs on the rice now! Dang it! Hope to see you on Patreon soon and give you even more stuff to enjoy! We will check out Koukaibou because it's totally soup weather now! -Kyde
Kyde and Eric No problem! Your videos are informative as well! I'm a Nisei, but I know very little about what it's like, living in Japan..Hopefully we can live there in the near future. My boyfriend is looking forward to see Melonkuma. Hehe. I contributed under a different name :)
This was a fun video :) I always like your guys' travel / adventure videos. That waterfall hike seemed Really cool. We didn't really get a sense of it in the video, but how long were you guys Actually hiking and stuff for. If I ever get to that part of Japan, that seems like something I would want to put on a list, but I don't know if I would be able to do like a 8 hr hike, just as an example. Thanks for the long video! Always look forward to these :) Look forward to the next adventure! :D
keandric 2 I want to say that we hiked for 6-8 hours. That's kind of usual for us. The hike was no hard at all. I would say that if you can walk, you can do this one! -Kyde
another great video,or movie ! love the feature length videos guys, can i ask....What editing equipment do you use for your videos please?,I like the way your videos are done and i am looking to upgrade for my channel,Hope your both well. John
Ice cream vending machines aren't that common in Europe. You might find soft ice machines, but not packaged ice cream. I'm surprised you don't know chestnuts though. Throughout the winter time here you see stands everywhere in the cities selling them. 13:55 the map says "you are here", not where Kyde points...
You guys are just ridicously awesome. I think you guys are so perfect together. You make me feel like I am hanging with you when I watch your videos. I live in boring ass ohio and there isn't much todo in the winter uhg! so watching your videos really makes my day more manageable. eric reminds me of my brother a lot. I just want to come over there and hang with ya. oh kyde when you were showing us the map on the hike there was a you are here arrow LOL didnt know if you seen it cause you pointed about a inch down. anyhow please keep traveling if I weren't on disability I would donate to ya. thanks scot
Hi Scot, thanks so much! We are really happy you are enjoying the videos and are excited to make more for you! Don't worry about not being able to contribute, we will continue to make the videos free for everyone. And good eye, Kyde totally missed the you are here arrow, haha. -Eric
Those tourist spot stamps are catching on in Taiwan, too. I think they originated from Japanese temple pilgrimage circuits so a pilgrim could prove that he visited all the temples in the circuit.
Somewhere on Izu is where Nichiren Daishonin was exiled for a period of time. Wasabi has to have cold clean water cycle through to grow. It is extremely difficult to grow and it takes years to be harvested. YES! There are 6 or more poisonous snakes and vipers in Japan. So don't mess with 'em. I have a kind of scrub cloth. Made out of the kind of plastic that they make dish scrubbers out of. That has oblong ring handles on either end, and the 'cloth' is almost a meter long. As long as there is water. I would have a liquid soap bottle with me. It would take 5 or ten minutes and I would be done, and ready for the onsen. My Jr. High's mascot was an Alligator . We were Tiffin East Gators. The yellow veg was pickled Daikon.
I love your videos! best of wishes from Ecuador!!! here in my country we also have a 7 waterfall route, so maybe there is a real thing going there with the number 7
I had to wash like that for about a year because my shower head was not working. The faucet part worked at least, but I still had to do the cup/bucket thing. Oh, and last year all the pipes froze (even the hot water) except the hot water in the bathroom sink! Now that was an adventure.
You should hear the pure enthrallment of which occurs as soon a get ping notifying me of a new video, to see that it is you guys. You guys mean a lot to me, you guys epitomize of what i want to do with my life, travel the world, reference quotes which the majority of people will not understand and wear mad (my lingo for amazing) t-shirts, Eric. Keep it you guys! much love from a England Sorry if i said "you guys" excessively.
I watch your videos late at night which gives the experience a dreamlike quality. Did i dream it or did I see it? The little doll saying you are the ball lickers just cracked me up! An altered state of consciousness was behind that line.
Did you guys get a new camera? The video is super sharp and looks good. Looks like you had a good time, but that area is lacking in places to eat / 7-11s!
what the hell. I washed myself in a bucket before including hair and it takes like 15-20 minutes and isnt at all a problem. And my hair is longer than yours Kyde. Unless you meant all the watter you had was just one bucket. then you might need to be carefull. i guess what im asking is could you splash watter? if yes then the bucket is not an issue.
When you were at the coast, were there any interesting organisms in the water, or was the water barren? Love these videos, please keep them coming! ☆v☆
Great stuff again, guys. Wish you made more videos like this that were around 1 hour more frequently. Considering i'd love to go to Japan, your videos are about the closest thing I can find to actually experiencing it. There is something about the vlog style that is much more personable as compared to a documentary with cheesy monotonous music in the background and some dude in a suit commenting in a condescending/ultra formal way. I'd love to work in Japan at some point in my life. How did you guys find meeting friends in Japan? Do you have American friends or are they mostly Japanese?
Jamal Smith In our next video, Eric is going to wear a suit and I will be condescending! haha! That's never gonna happen!Meeting friends has basically happened through work for me. I have made a few friends through those friends. We have a mixture of foreign and Japanese friends. -Kyde
Persimmons sometimes don't have seeds/pits because they make the fruit harder to eat. Also, if you take the seed/pit of a sweet persimmon, and plant it, any fruit that grows from that seed will most likely be sour, like Crab Apples. To get sweet persimmons, you have to use a clipping from another sweet persimmon tree, and get it to grow into another sapling. TOO LONG DIDN'T READ They don't use the seeds/pits to grow the trees, and the seeds are gross, so they just bred some of 'em to not have seeds.
Two quick questions for Kyde, one, did you get a 4 year degree to teach English or a TEFL cert? And was the job hunt in japan for your initial move there very difficult? (i lied, three questions) do you guys have any advice for someone who wants to move to Japan as an English teacher?
Hey Kyde and Eric, Where did you rent your motorbike when you were in Myanmar. My wife and I are traveling there between 1/24/2015 from LA to Yangon to 2/14/2015. My wife's family live in in Yangon and we will start our venture from there. It has been 9 years since my wife has been back home and for me 10 years since i saw her family. A long awaited trip. So we are going to make the best of it while were there and that is what made me think about the motorbike rental. to take some side trips. Oh and this is a great video. It is always great to see you guys
Hi Roger, your trip zounds exciting! Glad the videos were useful for you. bit of bad news for your plans, motorbikes are actually illegal inside of Yangoon, so we rented from Mandalay. The guy we rented from is incredible and could not be more highly recommended. Here is his website: www.mandalaymotorbike.com -Eric
btw, do you guys still hang out with your friends, from back when Kayde started to work in Kumagaya? Or will do you guys plan to make more videos with friends you know in Japan from time to time? Just wondering! have a good day guys! Loved the video. Learned something about Wasabi, that was interesting on how they grow.
StudioSambodia Yeah, we still hang out with them. Had some over for Thanksgiving! Emma and Tommy moved back to Sweden, but they are coming to visit at the end of the month! Friends Forever! -Kyde
Second time watching this, still good. You 2 are so funny, the things you say, like "the hammock soiled it self" and people are gonna eat puzzels". I should just write everything up and make a book called; What Kyde and Eric said. :D Love your videos.
you guys are by far the best Japanese vloggers / adventurers. you guys don't talk all dull and infomercial like. keep up the great work!
Rodney Routt Thanks! We will! -Kyde
@@kydeanderic This is still true, a decade later!
I'm working on a model for my architecture class and I'm focussing on the model more and listening to you guys and soon as Erick said "midget with a knife" I burst into laughter
SimVibes hahaha! -Kyde
Way too many awesome and quotable bits in this vid to even comment on without writing a short book about it. Loved it.
Hahaha, thanks!
Haha, yea, we stayed in some places in the UK without showers. It's madness. -E
You guys are the best adventurers! It is my honour to meet you guys in Japan.
Mohamed Alloghani Thanks! Glad you enjoy the videos! -Eric
I've watched this a good four times now. You guys are the best. Thank you for showing us!
***** Thanks for enjoying! -Kyde
Thankyou for taking me on a great adventure Kyde and Eric. I may be sitting the in Australian heat, but you both always transport me to another realm with each of your videos. Love your work and can't wait to see where you take me to next!
Anthony Marcos Thanks! Next we will take you to Kyushu! -Eric
Absolutely wonderful! Another adventure with Eric and Kyde! Thank you so much for sharing this with us! You made me very happy today! Eric, you had to be a train in your previous life, because your sound of a train in the tunnel was so real!
Maike Vogt-Lueerssen I like thinking that he was a train in a past life! It's cute! -Kyde

Kyde and Eric Lol, thanks for asking, I made some vegetable soup, it turned out a little bland so I need to change the recipe next time. By the way, I really love both of your personalities and videos. I watch a lot of travel-type videos online and you two are definitely my favorite :)

Carlos Rangel That is awesome to hear! We didn't change any equipment, but RUclips's new quality is great! -Eric
Kyde and Eric But haven't you guys change the speed of the video at all? or used the function to minimize bumps?
I notice the same thing sense the last video on BK, but I just thought it was a speed thing...

Looked like i could reach into the TV. Phenomenal
We stayed at the Ryokan next to the giant waterfall! Beautiful!😀
Oh nice! -Eric

I'm a biologist with a specialization in plants (botany) so I love the "strange plants" part. It looked like a great trip.

TheAdventurousVlogger We edit with Sony Vegas 12.0 . It's a bit cumbersome but it gets the job done. -Eric
An awesome adventure, and (as usual) wonderful videography.
Robert Piers Thanks so much! -Eric
I think the "shrimp antennae" was actually saffron. I could be totally wrong though. Love the vids!
MortardInc I think you are right! Thanks for mentioning. I had still been wondering because a friend ordered a pizza with that one it! -Kyde
It's always good to watch you guys having some fun. Nice video.
***** Thanks! Glad you enjoyed! -Kyde
43:30 for sure the best part of the whole movie :D hahaha loved it good footage thanks for taking us a long with you on your trip :)
***** Haha, glad I didn't cut that shot then! Thanks! -Eric
I just want to come over there and hang with ya. oh kyde when you were showing us the map on the hike there was a you are here arrow LOL didnt know if you seen it cause you pointed about a inch down. anyhow please keep traveling if I weren't on disability I would donate to ya.
thanks
scot
Hi Scot, thanks so much! We are really happy you are enjoying the videos and are excited to make more for you! Don't worry about not being able to contribute, we will continue to make the videos free for everyone. And good eye, Kyde totally missed the you are here arrow, haha. -Eric
Kyde and Eric I laughed pretty hard about that arrow when I watched the video! -Kyde
I love you guys please promise you will post more videos,i enjoyed all!
The little man statue with the fish is the Yebisu beer mascot!
+spindext ah, good call! -Eric
Those tourist spot stamps are catching on in Taiwan, too. I think they originated from Japanese temple pilgrimage circuits so a pilgrim could prove that he visited all the temples in the circuit.
CNVideos Ah, interesting. -Eric
Woo! I freaking love these long videos and Coolish taste pretty awesome. Kyde spider stick had me in stitches. Can't wait to see your next adventure!
LancerJak I am betting the spiders can carry bigger sticks! -Kyde
The thing on the back of a boat is called a SCREW ;) Just FYI. Keep up the great videos!
+Brandon Dacosta Oh! Ok! thanks! -Eric
Yes~! You guys are the greatest people out there. Thank you for staying awesome :D
Jacob Foster That's the only thing we can do! -Kyde
I only watched about like 2-3 minutes of this video and i already fell in love with you guys xD
Frances Lazaro Yay! Thank you! Enjoy! -Eric
Frances Lazaro
The wasabi field was very interesting. I've heard of man-made irrigation systems in the mountains, but not one that is purely natural. Pretty neat!
it's so HD it feels fake, this is amaaazing!!!
Kacey Ng Hahaha
スゴイ
I love your videos! best of wishes from Ecuador!!! here in my country we also have a 7 waterfall route, so maybe there is a real thing going there with the number 7
Daniela Romero We are on to something with the number 7 here! -Kyde
I had to wash like that for about a year because my shower head was not working. The faucet part worked at least, but I still had to do the cup/bucket thing.
Oh, and last year all the pipes froze (even the hot water) except the hot water in the bathroom sink! Now that was an adventure.
Yesica1993 Wow! I'm glad none of that has happened to us! Shower working now? -Kyde
Kyde and Eric Yep! Makes me grateful for the little things, I guess!
everything is still green on 20th of october ...wow

You should hear the pure enthrallment of which occurs as soon a get ping notifying me of a new video, to see that it is you guys. You guys mean a lot to me, you guys epitomize of what i want to do with my life, travel the world, reference quotes which the majority of people will not understand and wear mad (my lingo for amazing) t-shirts, Eric. Keep it you guys! much love from a England
Sorry if i said "you guys" excessively.
Conor Edwards Haha, thanks so much! I hope you get a chance to get out and explore too, it's lots of fun! -Eric
Conor Edwards Look, you guy! You didn't say it enough! Thanks for enjoying the videos and we hope you get more pings and excitement! -Kyde
Yay, I just made dinner now gonna watch this! Love long videos. c:
***** Sweet! Enjoy! -Eric
I watch your videos late at night which gives the experience a dreamlike quality. Did i dream it or did I see it? The little doll saying you are the ball lickers just cracked me up! An altered state of consciousness was behind that line.
visualdog Hahaha, sometimes I live things and wonder if it actually happened. -Eric
visualdog Yeah, that little doll called you a ball licker! Get him! -Kyde
Did you guys get a new camera? The video is super sharp and looks good. Looks like you had a good time, but that area is lacking in places to eat / 7-11s!
***** We didn't get a new camera, but RUclips has better video processing now! -Eric
***** We didn't get a new camera. RUclips upped its game and now you see awesome things better! -Kyde
just discovered you channel . made my day .
+danieldeath Awesome! Enjoy! -Eric
"And then that spicy shit happens." I lol'd
Eric is so tall that at 27:25 he could just lean over the river and gently place all three of his wish stones on top of the mound.
haha
what the hell.
Just started watching you guys. You're so cool! XD I just have fun watching you interact on your travels.
Junpei Iori Awesome! -Kyde
That was awesome! Thank you :D
MrSpencer8989 You're welcome! -Eric
Happy Holidays Kyde&Eric! (from MA, usa)
Ultros Tako Thanks! Right back at 'cha! -Kyde
When you were at the coast, were there any interesting organisms in the water, or was the water barren? Love these videos, please keep them coming! ☆v☆
Hahaha, I'm sure there were, but our marine biology isn't super strong!
-Eric
tormentedzombieowl We saw water bugs. They looked like earwigs! -Kyde
You're both lovely people and I love your videos, keep up!
xtupz Thank you so much! -Eric
We have poison sneaks call" mamushi" in main island .
"Habu" in Okinawa islands.
elkysunnykuri Scary! -Eric
Jamal Smith In our next video, Eric is going to wear a suit and I will be
condescending! haha! That's never gonna happen!Meeting friends has
basically happened through work for me. I have made a few friends
through those friends. We have a mixture of foreign and Japanese
friends. -Kyde
Great vid as always!
Michael Zhu Thanks! -Kyde
What gods did you offend to only have 52K subs? You guys should be the king and queen of jvlogers.
to please RUclipss algorithm you have to tailor your videos in a way that makes them dramatically different than our videos hahaha.
TOO LONG DIDN'T READ
They don't use the seeds/pits to grow the trees, and the seeds are gross, so they just bred some of 'em to not have seeds.
Just the right size! Thanks for the info! -Kyde
marklenthecool That's really interesting! -Eric
"I took a train here, I didn't ride a horse" ...Somehow I will integrate that into a convo this week.
Kevin J Updates please! -Kyde
Two quick questions for Kyde,
one, did you get a 4 year degree to teach English or a TEFL cert? And was the job hunt in japan for your initial move there very difficult? (i lied, three questions) do you guys have any advice for someone who wants to move to Japan as an English teacher?
estrohl Kyde has a 4 year degree which is necessary for the visa. Check out gaijinpot.com for jobs. Also have a look here: kydeanderic.com/FAQ/ -Eric
Thanks!
-Kyde
that's good to hear. I was curious because Tommy lived in Japan for a long time right? They seemed like a very nice couple.
StudioSambodia Yea, they are great! Tommy grew up in Japan. -Eric
rodneys right i loved it too! someday ill have time to adventure there
I have to say I loved this video!
Pam Mulder Sweet! -Kyde
Kyde and Eric you guys seriously have so much guts with the amount of spiders you encounter. how are you guys not freaked out???
Hahaha, Kyde does freak out sometime. Some day we will encounter a snake and I will freak about that though. -Eric
Love your videos!
At 1:16:00. That yellow food. It's supposed to brake down the oil in your meal after you eat a very oily dinner.
ellie vacc Oh, very cool. -Eric
Subbed because it’s shroom season in Byron and you popped up in my feed !
Hay Kyde and Eric is it hard to move to japan
Second time watching this, still good. You 2 are so funny, the things you say, like "the hammock soiled it self" and people are gonna eat puzzels". I should just write everything up and make a book called; What Kyde and Eric said. :D Love your videos.
Milla Peltonen I would read that book! -Kyde
Milla Peltonen I totally agree! On each page it has like 1-3 quotes from a certain conversation. So many funny parts.
GeoAl09 Thank you, jeah, it would be a great book and funny. :)
Lol random tooth brushing scene, looked like a great trip. :)
Wasabi needs the cleanest water to grow in, so it doesn't grow just anywhere like many other plants do.
masaegu Then the running water makes sense! Thanks! -Kyde
