    I can't explain it properly enough to tell you guys how much I love your videos, and how much they've helped me. It's always been a dream of mine to see places that no one in my family could even dream of going to. And although I'm too young to start doing that kind of traveling, seeing the videos you two put up always inspires me when I start to think that I'll never get to travel :)

    So I counted the cars waiting in the line. I may be wrong but there were 115 cars plus 2 buses before the line breaks. One visible side had 7~ish cars and the other line had 53 cars until the video gets cut. After that, the video still showed 17 more cars and one bus. So that gives a total of at least 192 cars. Even if every car had to wait 1min to come in, the last car would have to wait at least 3h20mins. Ouch :P

    This was the first video I ever watched of you guys when I first started researching for my trip to japan this April, and then I was hooked! I've watched your entire RTW trip and all of your adventures in Japan videos (currently working on the vietnam ones). :P Just revisited this one again to refresh my memory on the fuji 5 lakes area since I'm planning on visiting there. :) I always love all the insight you both give on your adventures!

    Excellent video once again. I don't know if it is me, but I wonder if other viewers feel that they are drawn into the whole adventure. It feels to me like we are your travellng companions, dipping our toes into freezing cold water and shivering alongside you guys. It's amazing to think that your efforts are not professional productions. I mean that in a nice way. I have seen travel programmes on TV which cannot compete with your videos and they are professionally produced. Keep the vids coming!

    Another awesome and informative video by you two, thoroughly enjoyed!
    Ignore the nay sayers about 7Eleven food runs. When you are travelling convenience is what counts.
    And food in 7Eleven looks better in nutrition then fast food we get in the west.
    You guys deserve a sponsorship from 7Eleven and Japanese tourism board.
    I found your video more detail & informative about locations and with travel tips then most tourist promo.
    Keep up the good work!

    I was on a tour up to Hakone, I forgot which stop we got off the Shinkansen from, but we took a tour bus up there. I say we say in traffic for nearly 3 hours, of course it wasn't to bad because, when your on a tour bus and you don't know it going to take 3 hours, you just watch the scenery and the time flies by.

    Fun fact! (I just learned this from a swedish podcast haha): Viking (or biking as japanese often spell/pronounce it) comes from a Japanese hotel restaurant where the owners went to Sweden and where fascinated with the Swedish smorgasbord and wanted to bring the concept to Japan. But since the name was too complicated they just ended up calling it something different that still connects to Sweden: Viking!

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  8 лет назад

      +aiklund Haha, yea. "Buffet" sounds weird in Japanese too. They have a Japanese word that means vaguely the same thing: 食べ放題

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  9 лет назад +1

      Barbara Bartram Driving here is pretty easy. People here are super cautious drivers, and most of the signs are either super logical by their shape or have English on them. It takes some time getting used to driving on the left side of the road though, if you are from a right-side country. We never have come across any snakes...thankfully. -Eric

    That cave is a former lava tube that is emptied once the eruption is over. It is called Viking because that is a smorgasbord, buffet, and that is the japanese slang for that. The sulfur bonds to the dew and settles at ground level, then burns off at dawn. The green-blue thing is that there wasn't a word for green. Those two colors were called the same thing., when westerners came it changed There has been a Frieches Big Boy in my home town for decades. It used to be a drive-in.

  • @patsybob

    I think it's because in old Japan colour theory held that blue was just another shade of green. Meaning that blue and green became synonymous with each other.

    I was thinking something similar. At some point I questioned what would be the result if kyde and eric had made an introduction for the video which had been recorded after the adventure. I realized that it would totally destroy the sensation of it. The feeling of 'going along' is just epic in these videos. Feeling that is always destroyed when the professionals say the words "COMING UP..."

    Regarding the distinction between blue and green, the Chinese language similarly groups green and blue (I've studied Chinese and Japanese and lived for awhile in China). It's interesting to note that not all cultures and languages distinguish colors along identical lines. Awesome. Do beware: Driving in Japan isn't a perfect solution. Parking is expensive, gas is expensive and tolls on the highway are absurdly expensive. Often trains are a much better solution for traveling, especially if you will be in cities. If you are just going to be here for a few weeks I'd strongly suggest looking into a JR Pass. -Eric

    @ 34:06 Corn is actually a grain, not a vegetable! And what's more, I found a page on Yahoo (can't post the link of course) that says that it's more correct to call corn a "fruit" than a "vegetable" (though "grain" is even more accurate). If you search you can probably find the page without trouble.
