I know your pain man...I recommended the lobster to my best friend... he watched it with his wife and told me he's never watching another movie I recommend again... gotta be careful when people aren't on the yorgos wavelength
Strange that you didn't find much value in Alps, especially when you go straight into The Favourite, and mention the narrative being based around 'real' and 'fake' love. I think it's a film that's easily forgotten about by people, but works really well within his filmography. Lanthymos is one of my favourite directors working today, you do a good job at assessing his work and addressing what you like about it. Poor Things is such a vast and intricate film with so many subtextual themes interweaving. My favourite, I think, is The Killing Of A Sacred Deer. It took me several watches, after the obvious ties to Funny Games disappeared, the creeping home invasion becomes more layered as it progresses. A near retelling of Pasolini's Theorem. It's fitting Barry ended up playing a similar role in Saltburn.
So i saw one of yorgos lanthimos movie (a kind of kindness) and after seeing one of this man’s movie it gave me this idea (for some episode if you wanna hear about it!)
I liked your video (probably more than Lanthimos films), although I did really enjoy The Favourite and would definitely watch it again. Dogtooth - wow I completely missed the point of this film, i just had no idea what was going on. When I read up about it afterwards I felt really stupid lol The Lobster - I started streaming it, but halfway through the stream died, I have not yet revisited it The Killing of a Sacred Deer - Barry Keoghan dominates, actually one of the scariest performances I have ever seen Poor Things I have not seen (it's a bit long) but after watching your video I am looking forward to finding time for it
thx for this video man, I really like Lanthimos too, I just started watching autor films, could u recomend me some directos or films similar to Lanthimos?
Thats the hard part! Finding someone that nails his style as well. I make a slight joke to Riley Stearns in the video but i believe he is the closest do doing Yorgos. Movies like Dual and Art of Self Defense are solid
I don’t even know this guy but when I saw his name I instantly knew he is greek (I am Greek) and good job with the pronunciation of his name a lot of English people can’t pronounce correctly our name most of the time so yea
@@NeekoWatchesMovies well his name in greek is Γιώργος λανθημος (George lanthimos) i imagine in English they call him yorgos instead of gorgos is because in Greek ( in the case of George ) g sound like y like yiorgos or yiordanis the y sound like y or gio (in this case) so yeah you pronounced his name actually well not like most English people I feel most because even if we have some similarities like 5% I think of English word have greek origin (like geometry and philosophy we call them almost the same in both languages) but the greek language has a really different alphabet and overall pronunciation and to be fair the Greek language is really complicated and hard so yeah good job mate
1. Poor Things 2. The Killing of a Sacred Deer 3. The Lobster 4. The Favourite 5. Dogtooth 6. Alps 7. Kinetta (I can’t see anyone liking this one, there are a few technical aspects that are cool like a handful of really long one-take scenes, but this film is painfully boring, an hour and a half feels like easily 2 and a half)
@@NeekoWatchesMovies I found it on a streaming service called Kanopy, it’s connected to your library card somehow and you can only watch like 5-6 movies a month, but it’s free with no ads so it’s worth checking out. That’s also how I watched Dogtooth and Alps
Neeko, Yorgos is great, when you get a chance, I would like your thoughts on Panos Cosmatos, also Brandon Cronenberg (Possesser)*. Note did you notice Yorgos used the exact same music from Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’, in “ The Killing of a Sacred Deer.”
Wow, what an experience, you’re right there with Cronenberg lineage. I know all of David Cronenberg’s work and Brandon following (AntiViral). Also, first time I saw Christopher Abbott in a film (Possessor). Loved Infinity Pool. I had a thought A24 and Ti West are focusing on Mia Goth and she is going to hit Major Star level when they-release Maxxxine.
Lanthimos was also an actor in a Greek movie called Attenberg. Its better film than Alps and less good than Dogtooth. Search it and watch it when you have time. Though he has some sex scenes with his future wife Arianne Labed there and he's fully naked.
such a good video! i'm actually not a fan of lanthimos - i've seen 3 of his films and i honestly just never like the experience of watching them. i appreciate his filmmaking and i understand what he tries to do, but the way the characters speak irks me and the endings never satisfy me. i think his style is just not for me.. however, i found your analyses to be very interesting and i definitely learnt a couple of things i didn't know before about the backgrounds of the films! also, i haven't watched "the favorite" and seeing the cinematography and you mentioning that the characters don't speak in the usual monotonous tone makes me think i might actually enjoy this one, so i won't be completely writing him off yet!

Haha i stopped trying with some of my non film friends. Its our little secret!
Gotta be discerning when recommending Yorgos’ work, but when someone loves his movie you know they “get it”
I watched Poor Things five days ago and have now seen his discography backwards. Dogtooth is next. Loving it.
Hell yeah!
Insane production value for this video - I wish you tons of more viewers!
Thanks king! Means a lot

Awesome on dogtooth! I find a lot of satisfaction on someone learning anything from dumb old me haha. Barry does dominate that movie.
Great and insightful video
Thanks homie!
Titane poster! Hell yeah!
A must. We love Julia D
Yeah, Dogtooth definitely has a Salo, 120 Days of Sodom type thing going on, great vid 👍🏼

Second Run has a dvd release of Kinetta. You'll need an all region player to watch it though.
