Saw it yesterday. <SPOILERS> It's worse than just the ridiculous intersex plot twist at the end: the saintly intersex character delivers a whole pro-Islam speech mere minutes after a suicide bomber has killed 56 civilians outside the conclave. And this whole Queers-for-Palestine speech is sooooo moving it convinces all the other Cardinals to do a complete 180 and vote for this brand-new nobody to be the pope. The film is 90% solid papal political thriller, and 10% gussied-up, cheaply manipulative, intersectional agitprop and is actually insulting in how reduces gender-nonconformity to a plot twist. And unfortunately I think that 10% ruins the preceding 90.

Dancer in the Dark is the most depressing movie I’ve ever seen. There is no hope or positive outcome, things just get darker and darker. The ending was terribly tragic.

I agree, the second act was still really funny but dragged on way too long for me. I think maybe because Annie and Ivan are such compelling characters that I just can't wait to see more of them interacting on the screen again

Should not win either picture or actress. Characters unlikable, weird story, a lot of unnecessary sex. Also Madison with sex, swearing overrated. Blitz, Nightbitch and conclave are all better movies. Also Ronan in the outrun and Amy Adams in Nightbitch gave better performances than Madison.

the big twist is that the cardinal that is elected is like intersex or something. Its sad to see that the big production films about almost anything catholic are always attacking catholic teachings or something

I sincerely dont remember any kind of actual scares in the movie. Though I didnt like it much I have so much respect for the creative decisions.

The man was a troll even before he went to work for NR and went full RWNJ. Indeed, he used to play at being some kind of presumably left radical so thoroughly cooler than all of us he could accuse left directors of not being left enough while throwing out occasional rightwing tropes. The man manages to champion rotten and stupid movies while still being an insufferable intellectual snob. Sure, I'm a loudmouth liberal/progressive so it's probably not a coincidence that my other least favorite film critic was John Simon of NR back in the 20th century, but he was at least consistently effete in his tastes and nasty in his invective against actors who didn't fit his standards of beauty. On the other hand the intellectual conservative movement has always been mostly based on greed, racism, snobbery, and deep, deep intellectual dishonesty going back to William F Buckley, now transformed into a psychedelic level of lying by Trumpism. If they aren't honest about anything else, why should we expect them to be honest about movies?

Black Swan might be one of my favourite movies of all time definitely in the top 5. Requiem for a dream is up there too. I hated Sadie Sink's character in the Whale with a passion even after the ending, didn't buy into her suddenly getting emotional for her dad utter bs.

I know this was a year ago but you gotta remember this movie is supposed to be based off suspense and as a youtuber i watched said its also to make you uneasy because of your fears of the dark or even just the silence making you uneasy as the static plays through slowly growing louder
