- Hey everyone! Thank you so much for stopping by my channel to check out today's video about "How To Grow Long Relaxed Hair For Beginners." In this video, I discuss what you need to know to START and create a healthy relaxed hair care routine. I've done this routine consistently during the beginning of my relaxed hair journey in 2008 and started doing this exact routine again consistenly in 2021 with excellent results in retained length. Having a haircare routine and healthy practices, if relaxed or natural, helps maintain length and health for all hair types.

I forgot to mention in this video that you would need a nice heat protectant of your choice for monthly heat passes. Please keep in mind that everyones hair and lifestyle is different so tailoring your routine to fit your hair and needs is key!
Hey friend hugs xoxo
Hi Megz, I would love to go back to a relaxer. It was so much easier! Do you apply your own relaxer? And how often?
What is the link for the little microphone?
@@yvonnehoward7825 hi, I retouch myself. I have a video on how I do it.
@@Iamblessed12345 hi, I do not have a link.
For anyone new, I’d trust her! Meg has grown her hair and cut it so many times just to grow it back out before anyone else, natural AND relaxed!
I said the same thing I found her when she was relaxed the first time lol
Yep!!!
Thank youuuu 🙏🏾
Mayb genetics? But she is sweet
Let's not forget genetics too. Not everyone will achieve same results as she did. We love you megz regardless ❤
I just want to say it's so good to see WOC still relaxing their hair and it's healthy. Some of us were bullied into going natural but after hearing you out and watching your journey I'm excited for mine
Relaxers can cause cancer though 😭
@@Zawadi_jean Actually had my suspicions. Is it a proven fact though?
@@Zawadi_jean every damn thing causes cancer…..
@@Zawadi_jean there is a 4% chance, when used over 6 times a year and the people in the study may have had underlying health conditions. Many things we use daily are more harmful and carry more risks
@@Zawadi_jean Girl walking into Starbucks can cause you cancer 🙄 Go anywhere and look for the signs on the wall (in California we have these) and it'll see something along the lines of :being on premises can expose you to chemicals known to cause cancer. Then it links you to a gov site.
For me realizing that I needed different shampoos, deep conditioners and leave-in conditioners was a game changer. Being consistent with protein then took it to a whole nother level. Heading to mid-back in 2022!
Yesssssss goalsssss!! You’re going to be there in no time!!!
@@ulovemegz me too
Ok ima join you in that goal…I think I’m just a lil past my shoulders now but when I go for my touch up on Thursday ima have my ends clipped so it’ll probably be up to my shoulders lol also I believe you need to have the right perm in your hair to last longer! This will be my first touch up since November idk the name but I will get it n tell everyone bc with other perms I needed a touch up every 1 - 2 months!!
Which shampoos and conditioners do you use?
@@rithe07 hey if you’re asking me I’m not gon lie I use w/e shampoo n conditioner they have at the parlor but if I’m having a deep conditioning (under the dryer) I’ll bring my own which is Placenta in the brown n white packet or old school cholesterol my hair loves those but my lil secret “for me” is when I got home (with fresh permed hair) I’ll lightly moisturize my hair n bump it (curl) then wrap it n smooth it over with the bumper n put my scarf on!! When I come it down my doobie be banging bc it not dry from the blowing (hand blow dryer) it’s nice n bouncy with shine! 👌🏽🤩🙏🏽🥰
I just relaxed 6 days ago after being natural for 10 years....I'm as happy as a pig in slop!! I can't keep my hands out of my hair!! lol..thx for the tips!!
Thank you for watching and congrats on your new hair journey 🤗
Question. How soon should my wife wash her hair with clarifying shampoo after a relaxer?

After 5 years and 4 months, my appointment is set for this Friday to get my relaxer. I am sooooo excited. Between you, April Sunny and Hairlicious, I’ve learned a lot about relaxed hair. I’m surprised my hair grew as long as it did back in the day so I just know it can only be great things to come with this new found knowledge. Keep going Megz! 🤗🤗
Amazing. Welcome to the crew😍
Right there with you! After 5 years my appointment is tomorrow!

@@unsleepyx I so wish I could go tomorrow lol I know you’re excited!!
After 8 years 9 months I’m tired too and excited to put chemicals back into my hair.
This video came right on time! I’m working on growing my hair back and I’m also relaxed so this is a plus! Thank you so much for posting this video! I’ll be starting my new hair journey ASAP! ❤️
This video came to me in the best timing considering that I'm going tomorrow to get my hair relaxed... finally after 9 years! I'm so excited for a new me and a simple way of maintaining it too. Thanks for the video this was very helpful 😉💖💇♀️
You just earned a new subscriber. I have long hair, but I love learning how other people tend to their gardens and they usually give the run around. You went in deep and told us what you use and how you use these products. I learned a lot. I’ve been natural for 15 years and just peeled my hair yesterday..natural hair has been a challenge to deal with. I’m happy I ran into your page❤️
I miss those forums AND your old videos!! I’m restarting my relaxed hair journey as well. Thanks for sharing your beautiful journey all these years!
Aw thank you so much and thank you for watching Happy hair journey to youuu!
After being being natural for five years and coming back to a relaxer this video helped me a ton!! Thank you and please keep the tips coming 😘
I was natural for 14 years. I relaxed my hair last year and had no idea how to style or take care of it but I always watched Meg even when I was natural. Immediately it clicked, I said “I know where to go. My girl Meg always came through with the relaxed hair videos!” So here I am baby! Thank you Meg. ❤
Been following you for years!! And I have used SEVERAL of your methods. Thanks for the refresher. It always helps to double back every now and then. Sometimes we can get forgetful and lazy. But it eventually shows in your hair, so it's good to stay consistent with your regimen🥰
Thank youuuu! I agree! Your hair will definitely tell you a lot!
I remember longhaircare forum. Length checks. Etc. When i developed a hair care routine and stuck to it implementing treatments throughout the month my hair did so well. I applied heat although i understand less is more. Giving the hair a break sometimes with protective styles really helped too.
Omg I miss you so much. I'm glad you're back team relaxed. I tried natural and almost went bald. This must be a sign. Glad you're here again. My hair was flowing following your reg last time 🙏🏾
This video was really helpful. I’m not just beginning my journey but after listening to you, some of the things you mentioned is what I did when I started my hair journey. I keep a writing journal so I can see which products work best and to keep me on schedule with my regimen. Thanks for sharing!
Yesssssss keep note of what works and what isn’t is so help!!! 🤗
10 years since I got my last relaxer. I'm over it. You've got yourself a new subscriber ma'am.
Many thanks to you Meg. You saved my hair. There were dry, I didn't know what to do with them. I made a clarifying shampoo because I didn't do it often despite using gel every day. I left my hair mask on for 30 minutes as indicated on the package (I left only 5 minutes before your video). And finally, what changed everything was the use of a conditioner and a LEAVE IN 😍. I dried my hair with my blower brush, I straightened my hair then I slept with a scarf. My hair is super soft and airy. Thank you a thousand times. I hope I will find a routine that works for me so that my hair stays nourished and hydrated. Kisses from France ♥️
Thank you so much for your consistency, over the years you’ve shared so many hair regimen’s most if not all has worked for the girls and I. You are appreciated all the from Wisconsin here’s some 💐💐
Awww thank you so much abs I’m so happy to help!
I've been very unhappy with my hair lately so this is a nice refresher course. Back to square one! I'm gonna need a good leave-in! Thanks for the video!
Just found you! Thanks I'm a first timer. Been natural all my life ... I'm 2wek old in this relaxed hair world.. and I think your advice sounds legit. 🙂 thanks.
Those blogs/forums back in the day was so helpful. One of the biggest take away from those hair forums was how to apply products to my hair. I’m still a little heavy on the conditioner. But in most cases a little goes a long way.
Yesssss I miss how positive and encouraging those forums were also. Yes! Product application is so important!
OG in the houseeee!! Ayeee 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾
Starting my journey and I needed EVERY SINGLE tip! Thank you so much!
this video is right on time! i remember watching your very first one in 2008 and i’m restarting my journey again this year !
Thank youuuu 🤗
Hey I been watching you since 2012. I must say that my hair was very healthy with your hair tips. I went natural in 2016 but just couldn't get with it lol. Now that I'm back relax, I've been struggling where to start and what products to use. I'm so happy that you are doing this from the beginning. I can't wait to do this journey with you. I hope u do more step by step videos. Thank you😊
Awww thank you so much and I will definitely be doing more of these videos in our new journey! 🤗🤗
Awesome tips. Relaxed a year ago and suffered a setback a few months ago. Will use these tips to get back on track.
Great tips Megz especially the one on overlapping, 8 weeks for allowing enough length to only retouch the new growth👍🏽
Yesssssss!
heya! Just getting back into my hair care regimen and I agree 100% on the silk scarf vs the bonnet. Thanks again for the tips!
Thank you for watching!!! 🤗
Hey girl heyy! I’m an OG from back in the day. I used to watch you back in 09’ during my relaxed highschool days and have been subscribed ever since. After 09 I went back to the natural community so it’s been a good 15 years since I’ve been natural but I’m ready to get my hair relaxed again so I’ll definitely be tuning in more often. Thanks for the tips girly💕
Girl that March 2021 clip is FIRE! 🔥😮💨…You look so beautiful! Your hair is gorgeous!♥️
Just cut my hair into a pixie cut & relaxed it after 13yrs natural. As a natural my hair never grew past my collarbone. Gonna see if I can grow & maintain it this way. Thanks for the tips !
I don’t like cowashing but I still will follow these steps and yes I’m natural. I’m never going to relax my hair. I have gotten a taste of what my natural hair can do. And I love it. I enjoyed your video Megan.
I learned how to grow my hair from you Meg. I never knew the importance of moisturizing my ends😩😩
You explained everything so gracefully.
Just relaxed yesterday and I’m so excited!
I'm definitely an og from back in the day I saw you relaxed, natural and now you are back relaxed and yes we have evolved over the years with relaxers and I'm here for it meg
Thank yoooou!
Very helpful I am about to start my hair journey and different vlogs had me confused. You helped me with what I needed.
Yess I'm here taking notes, and sharing.
heeeey thank you for stopping by!!!
Spot on sis! People ask me all the time what do I do to my hair or what do I put in it… I tell them it’s a good ole perm n I keep up with it n don’t over-process it I keep it moisturized! In between when it’s not really time to perm but isn’t so controllable like sis said if you wear wigs this will be the time but for me I get 2 cornrows or some straight backs until it’s time to be permed! I don’t really wash my hair every week but I may try that! Some people think you’ll wash all the nutrients out but I guess that’s why you put it back with all the products! But all her tips are spot on!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Yessss I agree! Putting your hair away into protective styles when your new growth starts coming in is so important.
Yesss , I’ve been contemplating on relaxing my hair! This is the exact video that I needed, tysm 🤗

Keep it simple sista omg those forum were so helpfull. Thanks to you and many other, i was able to take care of my hair back in 2008 i think… 🥰
Literally was applying relaxer and watching this video I have about 4 different conditions and castor oil in my hair for Deep conditioning. I was natural 3.5 years and was over it. Implementing the Deep conditioner and protein is a must!!! Thanks girl I’ll be doing this routine weekly and keep you updated on my progress!!
Lol natural here and I’m relaxing my hair tomorrow. I’m over it!

I'm starting this month to regrow my damaged and over processed hair. Will definitely try yr regime. Wish me luck
Hello Megs I’m so glad you’re back, I, too am on a relaxed hair journey. I went from natural to relax after cutting it all off and starting over again, so I’m really loving your contacts. Please bring more best wishes.
Nice insights. Saving this video if I ever decide to relax 😊

So good to see you megs ❤
Great advice this coincides with a heatlhy hair care routine. Most people do not realised balding can be a form or unhelathy haircare routine and once this changes to a healthy one the hair can be regrown even after balding that may have existed for 15 years or on and off.
Very informative! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I really enjoyed watching this. Everything you said I'm fully aware of and have been trying to keep up with. My struggle was what protective style is best for me. I could easily wear my own hair, plus what do you think about clip ins? That's like my go to now a days.
Thank you so much for this detailed video. I am about to jump off that natural hair train to join the texlax train.
Thank you for watching!!
Good day my Dear,
This was easy to understand and simple to follow.

Thank you and thank you for watching!!! 🤗🤗
Just relaxed last month... After 8yrs of natural (6yrs dreads and 2 years afro)...and this vid just what I need.
I love your energy and personality
Yes, those hair forums were so helpful back then!!!
Yessss I miss them!!!
These tips also are important for natural hair growth. Healthy hair is healthy hair, whether it's relaxed or natural. The only thing I would say is that with natural hair you have to be very mindful of mechanical damage. Curly, coily hair is more prone to tangles and knots, so a lot of damage can happen if you don't detangle carefully. In contrast, relaxed hair is fragile due to chemical damage. So like you said, limiting heat use is important, and protein treatments can strengthen your hair.
You just contradicted yourself. You said relaxers cause chemical damage so that means it is not health hair.
@@Mai-sx3yf By "healthy hair" I was referring to hair that retains length and doesn't have split ends. You can have relaxed hair that is healthy by this definition. It's still chemically damaged, but doesn't necessarily have mechanical damage (split ends, breakage, etc.)
@@izahra1997 they knew what you meant 🙄
Thx sister for listing what I need heading to the store now
Thank you. Taking your advice make more since. Health over length. Starting hair journey in Feb. 2022
Thank yooou! Congratulations on your new hair journey!
Me too & im scared it sounds like a lot of work lol
Thank you, it's really helpful.
Man! you are beautifully made. Love from Jamaica
Thank you so much 😀
Great tips. There's a youtuber who flatirons her hair once a week and never does protective styling and her hair is down her back.
I personally have chosen to stick to protective style for a month at a time to retain length.
Yessss I believe I seen them! It definitely can be done also.
Same after six weeks, protective styling until 12 weeks for relaxer
Great tips. Also, success is on the other side of consistency. You have the product, now use it consistently.
That parttttt! 🙌🏾
