The Voices of Mario - Loaf Of Brett

- Brett mentions the people who voiced Mario throughout the years which means he takes on the task of pronouncing a whole bunch of actor names.
Music Used:
"World 3" from Super Mario 3D Land
"Opening (Donkey Kong)" from Super Smash Bros. Brawl
"Overworld" from Super Mario Bros. 2
"Title Theme" from Super Mario 64
"Koopa's Road" from Super Mario 64
"Throwback Galaxy" from Super Mario Galaxy
"Staff Roll" from Super Mario 64
"Break the Targets" from Super Smash Bros. Melee - Игры
Super Show is superior because it has Lou Albano and the other 2 cartoons don't.
Super Mario world has mama luigi
Mario 3 gave us Recycled Koopa, which was used in the first YTP.
That's a pretty solid point.
Exactly
@@loafofbrett6853 I was gonna say, Walker Boone and Bob Hoskins were the two actors with a definitive reason as to why Charles Martinet would not voice Mario as a jerk, or putting less emphasis in the Italian in "Italian American" (which is also why people didn't like the idea of Chris Pratt voicing Mario) compared to Lou Albano who does; I say bonus points for both Lou and Charles for sticking with the general idea.
Lou Albano Was one Of The Famous Voices for Mario, He Even Wanted To Change his name to Mario.
I didn't realize there were so many. As for Mr. Pratt, I wish people wouldn't hate him for taking the role. As you pointed out, if Pratt didn't take it, some other famous person would.
From what I hear, Chris Pratt sounds like he’s going more Brooklyn with his Mario voice than Italian. In any case, I can live with a different sounding Mario if the movie is done well, which it looks like it is. It would have been cool for Charles Martinet to return, but it may be a while before big budget studios acknowledge VAs as enough to draw people in again. Disney’s blatant disregard for Robin Williams contract for voicing in Aladdin really threw a HARD wrench into how literally every animated film is marketed now, and I don’t know when we’ll see a change in that.
Charles Martinet IS in the Super Mario movie. We just don't know who he's voicing. Obviously not Mario or Luigi, unfortunately. I was happy to see his name in the credits at all.
BTW, Robin Williams, like you say, had every reason to be pissed off at Disney for breaching their contract with him. I've heard it was none other than Jeffrey Katzenberg who did it -- certainly fits Katz's MO.
@@Soufriere84 He Is?
Well, It's been a Long Time since He's Had a Brooklyn Accent, And Lou Albano, Walker Boone, And Bob Hoskins Are Dead.
Not to mention, Pratt sucks doing both accents more so than previous talents before him. Let the lesson address strongly, that you need to have and show quality talent before you actually start a career.
He still sounds souless
It's crazy he's been voiced by that lot.
I was quite surprised by all the people I found while researching this topic. I thought there was somewhere around 4 or 5 but my assumption was definitely not correct.
@@loafofbrett6853can i voice mario? I can record some audio to show how i perform mario
I love Charles' voice with a passion, don't get me wrong, but I really like Chris' voice as Mario. It's like how they didn't use Sonic's current VA for the films, and I really enjoyed Ben Schwartz voicing Sonic. And hey, as long as the film is good and fun, I don't care to much who voices Mario, and at least he's getting cameo's at the very least. But other than that, great video! 👍🏻
Charles is like the ideal Mario voice lol
Crazy Kong 1981 was the first game where Mario had a voice. You hear it when he jumps. And yes it is officially licensed by Nintendo. Total mystery as to who the voice actor is though.
Man I loved walker boone and Lou albano in the cartoons. They were so much fun and their voices made sense cause of the Brooklyn accent.
I’m so glad that you acknowledged that bob hoskins actually wasn’t awful in the Mario bros movie. I reckon he was the only actor/character to be given any kind of proper treatment (even though he already had a girlfriend and Luigi was after the girl but idc). The sad thing about it was that he was drunk for most of his scenes (not sure about most but he was after he found out what the others were doing behind the scenes) and yet he was better than everyone else in the movie (even hopper but hopper didn’t really want to try and who could blame him, the script got changed several times and they’d get changed like minutes before shooting was supposed to begin. He also didn’t really have any passion for it either so it’s understandable why he wasn’t as memorable).
Charles Martinet literally is Mario imo. He’s been around the longest and has made a name for himself as the definitive voice of Mario. He embraced the Italian roots of the character and has made him the icon he is today.
Chris Pratt I don’t think deserves all the blame. There’s things about him that aren’t super great (the whole Hillsong church scandal but I’m unsure how much he was really aware of that) and his voiceover performances have legit just been him ([emmet/Mario from the trailers specifically] sound almost exactly alike) but as you said, it’ll have been what the higher ups wanted. It’s also been confirmed by melandrini himself that it was what they wanted for how Mario was going to sound. They even made note of the fact that Charlie day has an Italian heritage but they didn’t want him to use an accent. Plus Chris uploaded a TikTok that showcased the voices and they bleeped out Luigi’s voice. So its likely to be different in the movie. In no way am I defending Chris for his actions but I think he doesn’t deserve all the blame and as you said in the video, they’ll have probably cast another A list celebrity actor in the role if Chris was busy/declined.
All of the cast in the film are essentially A List celebrities (which is no surprise but not a good creative choice either, it’s only for marketing purposes). Some of them turned out to be great like Anya Taylor Joy as Peach, Jballs as bowser (At first I really didn’t like that he was gonna be bowser as I thought it he was gonna sound more like Scott Burns’s bowser [or in the case of Po, literally just jack black] but he’s actually put effort in and it really shows, it feels like a good combination of burns and Kenny James’s voices and it’s allowed him to do it in a way that won’t hurt his vocals as severely as if he were to do proper scary growling tones, it still will hurt but just not as badly. I’m actually looking forward to Jballs as bowser. He’s gonna be fun) and the biggest surprises Keegan Michael Key as toad and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek (ok maybe not that big with KMR as he was able to play joker in the Batman 2004 series quite well but I feel he would’ve worked so much better as bowser, oh well, he’s still showcasing incredible talent). Some of them have sucked (Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong in particular but then again, they did butcher his design [not severely and I get what they were going for but if you’re gonna make the other kings look like they’re supposed to, why ruin the big main guy? Especially when you’ve done all the other characters so well] so it only made sense they’d butcher his performance. He’s also not really the focus of the film but still though and Chris leaves a lot to be desired [though he is getting better and as I mentioned before, they might just be teasing us to lower expectations which they did before the first teaser]).
That’s just the way it works when big IPs are involved.
The first voice sounded very similar to his official voice, that's interesting!
There are waaaaay more voice actors for Mario than I thought.
I thought the same thing when making this video.
@@loafofbrett6853 Yeah. Usually I'm pretty good at noticing voice changes, but I didn't realize as a kid that Captain Lou only voiced Mario in the Super Show while Mario 3 and Mario World used soundalikes. Same with Danny Wells versus his also-sadly-departed Luigi soundalike.
Just got recommended one of these videos, its great to see YT push smaller channels as I think itll be a huge step in watching this one grow :^)
Thank you for the encouraging words!
Chris actually doesn't sound bad. He sounds decent enough
I don't think they casted Chris Pratt just because he was famous, well maybe he was, but everyone in the cast is, and Chris is famous, but not in a good way in other communities. And I just hate how people only think of Charles in this movie not voicing Mario, and not considering the other VA's from the games, Samantha Kelly (VA of game peach), or Kenny James (VA of game Bowser). Before anyone says that the voices in the movie are good.....
It doesn't matter , I truly believe that those people could've done a far better job, but am I mad on what we got, including Chris Pratt, no. People just cry, and that's it.
That's an excellent point. I also don't like that the VA's of Peach and Bowser from the games aren't playing their characters. I also believe they could have done a better job. I'm not truly mad at any of the people playing the characters in the Mario movie. I'm more of just disappointed about the missed opportunity to allow these less famous actors be able to take their rolls in a large scale movie that has the characters they play.
@@loafofbrett6853 that's fair, but I feel like if they wanted to have a full star cast, I don't think Nintendo and Illumination wanted any celeb, but the right ones, like Miyamoto and Nintendo had to take part of the casting, because they are very protective of they're IP's, and everyone in the cast had to be approved, and if they weren't, they wouldn't be in the position on where they are. I know that fame is overshadowing talent, but it's such a common thing that I just live with it, still excited for the movie, I think Chris and everyone will do fine.
All the voices suck and are terrible except for Toad
At least for Kenny James I can sort of see why he wasn't cast, poor guy literally got his vocal cords destroyed just from doing Meowser's voice clips (I'm not saying it's justified though). For everyone else though, there's just no excuse...
mayumi tanaka voiced mario in a vhs tape and yes mario sounded just like luffy
That's an interesting fact! I did not know that.
I think they wanted to get close to his Super Show brooklyn accent for the Super Mario Bros Movie
You might be right. I don’t actually have a problem with Chris Pratt’s Mario voice. Mostly because I haven’t heard it enough to give my full opinion. I’m just saying that I like Charles Mario voice the most and so far no other person has topped Charles in my opinion.
@@loafofbrett6853 that's what I'm thinking as well
My theory is Charles Martinet's cameo is going to be "Mario prime", in a Star Trek 2009 timeline split sort of thing. Mario does already have two separate origin stories, after all!
Charles would have to alter his Mario voice so much to make it work (and bareable) that people wouldnt believe it was him anyway.
When I heard Pratt’s voice as Mario in the first trailer, I thought we was trying to replicate Lou Albano’s Brooklyn-ism of his interpretation of Mario. Now looking at newer trailers and teaser for the film, Chris isn’t trying to be Lou Albano, he was trying to continue his legacy as Mario from back in the day
Charles Martinet does the best Mario voice.
Little did he know, 8 months later, he should’ve uploaded this video this month.
Even if someone somehow knew what would happen and told me. I probably wouldn’t have believed it haha
I’m looking forward to seeing the movie and hearing everything else the cast has done beyond the teaser trailer (I’m avoiding the other trailers until after I see the movie). And while Charles is my favorite Mario VA like the majority of Mario fans, I’m not surprised at Chris doing his own portrayal after hearing everyone else mentioned here, but I’m willing to give Chris a fair chance.
Tbh out of all of them
Good old lou (rest in peace) takes the cake
He was funny and always hammered the nail when it came to the jokes
He had amazing singing voice and was hilarious
Oh wow I expected this channel to have way more subscribers. Well you just got one more!
Thank you!
5:39 aqui no Brasil, o Mário tem o sotaque italiano 💖💖👌👌
E a dublagem tá lindíssima
Great video this has a very nostalgic vibe to it like early RUclips. this isn't a dig or a knock but the way you edit your videos is kind of how it was back then and I find it very comforting the new style of editing is kind of lame and way too sporadic, this is very well put together and very nice.
you deserve more subscribers and I'm going to subscribe
Thank you very much! Yeah I don't really mess with fancy transitions or anything. I just make sure that I can find the right stuff to show if I can. You saying this was very well put together means a lot because I try my best to make my videos the best I can in a mostly reasonable amount of time. Thank you again!
Great video
Thank you!
Charles Martin is the best voice actor in any video game I love the guy He’s the real life super Mario if you ask me I love the voice actor of Mario he’s a real hero
Forgot one, Although he didn't play in a big role of the development of SM64, There was stock sounds used from Mel Blanc (Which voiced some Loony Toon characters in their classic era) in the beta build of the game which is used for the preservation project and B3313
You can also hear one of the stock sounds in some version of a cotton eye joe music video, I can hear it coming from a TV but I can't find it on other tech
Charles Martinet is a superb voice actor, with surprisingly incredible range. If you get a chance, I recommend looking up English dub clips of the Konami PS2 game "Shadow of Destiny" ("Shadow of Memories" in Japan and Europe), as Martinet played the creepy, androgynous pseudo-villain of the game, Homunculus, and is genuinely VERY, VERY, ABSURDLY CREEPY in the role. Like, gets-under-your-skin-and-haunts-your-nightmares creepy. Once you realize it's frigging MARIO doing that voice, it's kind of mindblowing.
Make sure you're watching clips of the PS2 game, though, not the PSP port, as Konami redubbed the entire game for the PSP port for some reason, so Homunculus is no longer played by Martinet in that one.
I agree. Charles Martinet is a great voice actor. I didn't know he voice acted for Shadow of Destiny. That's cool, I'll have to look that up.
He's also Paarthurnax from Skyrim
Now that the movie is out, I believe Chris Pratt actually made a fairly good voice for Mario in the movie, and I don’t blame him for getting picked over Charles.
And it’s not as if Pratt is gonna replace him forever, so it’s nice to see someone else do the character after such a long time.
If you watch the beta version of Mario 64 you can hear a different voice
2:30 Don’t you ever, *EVER,* talk about that movie
If Mario was a real person he would be like Lou albano since mario is an Italian plumber from Brooklyn
Charles is the best official Mario.
Optimus prime is one of the original voices of mario? What a world we live in lol
Larry Moran = Key Grip
Peter Cullen = Optimus Prime
Tōru Furuya = Ultraman Scott
Captain Lou Albano = Captain Lou Albano
Walker Boone = Bill Kaskins
Ronald B. Ruben = M.U.G.E.N
Nicholas Glaeser = Harold Karaka
Bob Hoskins = Eddie Valiant
David Platshon = Producer
Marc Graue = Judge Death
Charles Martinet = Deputy
Chris Pratt = Star Lord
Kevin Afghani = Raditz
First time watching this video from this channel and-

"... Targets..."
1,000th like! Good video.
Chris Pratt is my favorite voice actor in the Mario movie and I like Chris Pratt when he voicing Mario.
I love Marc
TIL Optimus Prime voiced Mario at one point
Lou albano was awesome for Mario because he has a good Italian american accent
3:02 3:03 he is Mario.
hey, the 1993 super mario bros movie is a really fun watch, it's not a bad movie just a weird adaptation
Charles martinet is legend. ❤ wahoo!! Its a me,mario!! Nostalgic
I just don’t understand why people judged Chris pratt so damn much I think he did amazing as Mario plus Mario is originally from Brooklyn not Italy plus the other voice actors like the movie sonics voice actor or any other voice actor for that matter never had been judged Chris pratt truly loves Mario and he’s trying to please us fans it’s good to have a variety
Yeah Chris Pratt has been judged too harshly. I sound mad at Chris Pratt but it’s just for fun. I have no problem with the actor. I just think that Martinet should be able to play the character because he has been voicing the character for so long.
@@loafofbrett6853 that’s fine and understandable I just like to see a variety and seeing other people given a chance to play that character. I don’t like people saying harsh things like Chris pratt is stupid or he should be fired or dead just because he’s playing a iconic character that’s just nauseating to me
Because people like to hate Pratt just for the hell of it...
I'm going to see the new movie for the fact that Chris Pratt is the voice of Mario and I am a big Chris Pratt fanboy and I think Chris Pratt is cute
Glad to hear that you’re excited for the movie!
ahh man dont diss the mario movie man
at least they didn't pick Ben Afleck to voice Mario.
Sounds like that would be bad news
Bob Hoskins is my favorite. I love the 1993 movie and I think it's legitimately great. I know it had a lot of flaws and it's not very accurate to the games but I love it. Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo have a great on-screen chemistry as Mario and Luigi. Dennis Hopper is hilarious as King Koopa. Samantha Mathis is good as Daisy. The practical effects and set design are amazing. The soundtrack is great. Sorry for the long comment lol. I just love the film so much and I don't get all the hate for it.
Charles Martinet's Mario voice works great for short sound-bytes, but I can understand how full dialog in a feature-length film would require someone speaking in a more natural voice. I honestly couldn't stand Martinet's Mario the first time I heard him, since I was still used to Lou Albano's Mario. I eventually grew to like Charles Martinet, so I'm willing to give Chris Pratt a chance.
Similarly, I really didn't like Mark Hamill's voice for The Joker when I first saw him in Batman the Animated Series, but now I couldn't imagine anyone else voicing an animated Joker.
I’m definitely willing to give Chris Pratt a chance as well. I just feel like Martinet got robbed because he has voiced Mario by far the longest out of everyone else. I don’t blame Chris Pratt for Martinet not getting the role though. I can see how Martinet’s Mario voice wouldn’t work the greatest in full sentences but I think he could change up how he voices Mario to a more normal sounding tone in my opinion. You got a great point of view on this topic! Thank you for letting me know what you thought. It was fun to read.
I'll admit when I first played Mario 64 way back in 1996 (I'm old), it took me a LONG time to get used to Charles Martinet's take on the character because I'd grown up with Captain Lou Albano and his Canadian soundalikes from the DiC cartoons. With Captain Lou gone (if he was alive and able, which he isn't, I'd be apoplectic if they _didn't_ cast him as Mario in the film, same with the also-gone Danny Wells -- FWIW I don't hate Chris Pratt, usually), Charles should have been given the role.
1:31 why... does Mario have a gun and a headband? Does he think he's Rambo?
I think you should realize that it was an interestingly genius casting choice of including Chris Pratt because adding a NY accent to Mario can actually work despite of the previous expectation on Martinet's involvement and iconography, you should watch the latest clip of the movie, makes sense?
That’s a fair point. I’ve seen some of the newer trailers and while I don’t want to make my full opinion on his voice before I would watch the movie, I think that his voice sounds fine but maybe a little lifeless in my opinion.
I would’ve replaced Chris Pratt with Charles Martinet as the voice of Mario in the Mario movie, but only if Charles Martinet performed his Mario differently and talked with a Brooklyn accent, his video game voice would be annoying for the whole movie.
to me i personally like the super show/smw show voicss
If they made super smash bros movie they should put Charles Martinet voiced as doctor Mario
Excellent idea
Charles martinet does a great Mario. And Luigi
I agree. His Luigi voice is also top notch.
And wario.And waluigi
You missed one, but in all fairness I don't remember the dude's name. There was another dude that voiced Mario in real time along with Charles, but he was a stand in.
I'd Say Chris Pratt is Adjusting Even Though He Doesn't Sound Like Much.
It would've been ABSOLUTELY neat if Robin Williams voiced Mario in like an Mario movie or show. Like, he would have been PERFECT!
Never thought of that before. Neat idea!
Lou Albano>>>
Why do they all look like Mario
5:28 That's a load of mushrooms. Regardless of the casting being at fault of the film's director, many more popular celebrities, both acting and social media influencers, could fulfill this role. Chris cheated many talents of this long dream of the masses perception of what is considered talent. Chris knows the only reason he arbored for the role is so to market off that he can accumulate his egot and filmography; if it means he'll manage another 10 years within the industry. Whilst putting on a face that he has "experience playing Mario" and "I'm a big fan" when his motives are clear as day for talents he barely promises. That's why his next acting role is to play as Garfield--as well as the Grinch. He should take full blame on account of his career and motives. Sometimes you have to wonder about the non-existence of auditioning sessions nowadays.
What the hell kind of hat is Mario wearing at 1:30 ?? lol
I do not know. Didn’t really think about that much haha
I think Chris Pratt did a good job
Charles Martinet was the right choice :(
Hi brett
Hi Victor
It'll be fun to pirate the movie when Chris mario lines has ben replace with m&l voice
Chris Pratt looks like a jerk but he was good in the Mario movie. Charles said he didn’t want to take the role because the Mario voice was going to be annoying for a whole movie
Chris isn't a jerk though. In fact, many people who have met him have said that he's actually quite nice
I have a feeling the Chris Pratt super Mario bros movie will get the same box office numbers as the Bob hoskins and John leguizamo super Mario bros movie that is my prediction
Bold prediction.
Wait so mario was the first VTUBER dies
Yes
They should have gone with a lesser known voice actor for the new Mario movie, it would have started their career and would have been more akin to an average person who became the Mario we know today
That’s a interesting thought. I’m only opposed to it because Charles Martinet has been voicing Mario for over 3 decades but it would be cool for some newer actor to play Mario.
Charles Martinet might have been a better choice for the 2023 film, but that film doesn't get financed. (If it would, it would have been made by now.)
No, Chuck is not the best choice. It's obvious Pratt and Day watched the Super Mario Bros super show. The studio didn't want Mario and Luigi sounding like Italian stereotypes.
Never really thought about a Mario movie having a different budget if Charles played the character until you brought it up. That could be the case.
Charles is an iconic voice for Mario, but him voicing Mario movie is kind of a bad choice. Hearing Mario’s voice for over 90 minutes would drive people crazy. Also Chris did a really good job for Mario
screw Mr. Pratt he did not even try an Italian accent for Mario, you could say that the guy from the Mario Bros Super Show is bad but come on atleast he gave the plumber his Italian accent but for the people who got Pratt to voice Mario based the voice off of Hotel Mario I mean Pratt put so much effort into Emmet but not Mario who been around before emmet exist? just get a guy who can do a good Italian accent and get that to be the voice of Mario for the movie
Lou Albano didn't give Mario an Italian accent, it was a Brooklyn accent
Hot take: I don't like Charles Martinet's hokey Italian accent. I grew up with Mario having a Brooklyn accent and a deeper voice.
It should have been Danny DeVito or some other husky voiced Italian American instead of Crisp Rat, though.
Chris Pratt
@@kevinkong64 it's a joke.
@@Scarybug yeah but it's becoming a bit childish
That's fair. I do like the Brooklyn accent for Mario as well but I grew up with Mario being voiced by Charles Marinet mostly which is partly why I prefer his voice of the character more than other versions.
I'm not as attached to Charles Martinet. I heard Mario voiced in previous versions that it took me a while to accept him sounding the way he does in the N64 version. Anyone that thinks he's the definitive arr just stuck in Nostalgia because he's done it for so long.
Super Mario 64 was one of the first games I can remember so I would say I definitely have some Nostalgia. It’s all a matter of personal opinion at the end of the day.
UwU
idk why they chose pratt in the movie for publicity as if people don't know who the fuck super mario is
Never thought about that for some reason. Mario would definitely be big enough of a name for people to want to watch the movie.
This video caught my attention until you went into that redundant ass part of “I can see why the studio wanted Chris Pratt, so that they can put him on the marketing material”. Redundant mediocrity at its finest.
