    Mario 3 on gba was my favorite game growing up. It really is a timeless game that is just straigbt fun to this day. I remember working at a game store back then and we had the game set up as a demo to sell a new systme that plays gba on the TV through hdmi. Ans when i would work i remember young kids aould come in and try mario 3 and not say they never played before. Their first tike playimg the game, and them the parents would come by and say that this was the greatest game from their childhood. This game literally sold systems while introducing the game to a new generation. Thats probably the most magical thing iv seen while working there. Fantastic video good job!!!!!

      Aww, that's such a cute story! :) It's always so wonderful to hear about parents passing down the games they grew up with to their kids. It's really something special, and the fact that Super Mario Bros. 3 was the game they bonded with... definitely solidifies it's place in gaming legacy. It's a game that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Here's hoping I can one day share the games I hold near to my heart with my own children in the future.

    It was such a magical era back when I was a kid, my mom at home doing her stuff, me in a dark room trying to get through level 7 (wich I knew way after level 8 because a friend told me about the couple of flutes that take you from level 1 to level 8), my sister in her room, music on the radio, everything was right except I didn't do my homework, but tomorrow me would have to deal with that
    I'm so glad this small nudget of blissful happiness has endured the ages and kids as recently as 2018 have had stuff like this in their memories as happy childhood memories.
    Also, yes, this game was a masterclass in design, it holds up surprisingly well.

    i like the gba rerelease of mario 3 with the bonus levels through the e-reader cards. there was a patch, done as a romhack, for the gba version of mario 3 that unlocked all the bonus levels in the e-reader world.

    I had already witnessed some 16-bit graphics in arcade games by the time my friend introduced me to SMB3, but I was still blown away. The magical twinkling of the stars that merged on the map to reveal Mario, accompanied by the whimsical jamming music... I can unequivocally say that the following few hours turned me into a gamer. This was the turning point in my life. Behind me was my childhood as a sociable outdoors kid, and what followed was... uh, well
    Anyway, completing SMB3 finally made me feel like I was "good" at something, even the best in the country probably (lol). Nintendo was brilliant at doing that.

    I'm impressed with your knowledge of classic games! I'm surprised to see that level of knowledge and interest from someone so young. I love how you also brought up the video game crash here in the USA from the 80's. Nintendo was pivotal in bringing us back from the crash. As for me when I was a kid, I continued playing the video games I had on my ColecoVision and Commodore 64 while others lost interest... but was pleased to see gaming make a comeback with the arrival of the NES and Super Mario Bros.

      Thanks so much for the sweet comment! 😊 I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you for it. College has been eating up my time once again 😂 And yeah! I absolutely love the classics. We wouldn't have the games we have today if it weren't for these older titles. That's really cool you still kept up with gaming even during the crash. It shows a real commitment to the hobby even when the industry was at a low! :)

      @@Dutchess5 Please don't apologize! I really wasn't expecting a response. Getting a reply was unexpected! I know college can be VERY time consuming... been there, done that. 😂
      I think one of the things that's interesting is that during the Atari 2600 era, I believe most of the games I played were made in the USA. For the C64, however, I think some games were made in the USA... but I believe even more were made in the UK. I was a kid at the time and didn't really pay attention (or really care... I just wanted to play games... LOL). I think that was because of the crash here in the USA at the time.

    Super Mario World was my go-to Mario platformer growing up, alongside Mario 64 a few years later! With that access to a Super Nintendo though, I had access to All-Stars which allowed me to play all the original NES titles as well. Mario 3 was a fantastic game! An incredible improvement on the original SMB while still being worthy connective tissue to make Mario World not seem like such a drastic ambition. I always loved all the different suits, use of an inventory, the mentioned world map - for a game released so early in the scope of mainstream video games, it really had so much more character than it had any business having!
    It should be worth noting that even up here in Canada, the impact of Nintendo's marketing for this game was felt. Japan is basically Nintendoville, but I think in the US a lot of people take for granted the nostalgia around Nintendo of America's marketing at the time really felt like its own piece of americana. That vibe was felt up here too; I remember back in the 2010's, my uncle's girlfriend at the time would even reminisce about The Wizard and how crazy it was to see such a fun-looking Mario game, and how it even took the attention of teenagers who were mainly focused on arcade games or the R-rated movies of the time. The release of SMB3 was - I feel - Nintendo's final statement to the public that they planned on sticking around, and not just as a gaming brand. That's an approach that still holds weight to this day, and when SMB3's success led to a TV show, figurines, Christmas Stockings (my pride and joy), and even its own cereal at the time, I think you nail it when you say it left an impact on society as a whole.
    Great video as always! :D

      What a nice comment to read through! Thank you for writing it, friend. :) You make an excellent point that I'm really sorry I overlooked! I had no clue about the game's impact in Canada, but now that I know, I wanna hear more about it. XD NOA's marketing at the time is super nostalgic and... I guess notoriously controversial in some ways, especially when the whole "video-games-should-be-rated-like-movies" debacle was going on, Todd Howard was at the forefront of that whole thing, representing Nintendo in a phenomenal way. In a way, he was gamers' national hero. XD But it's so nice to know our neighbors over there in Canada were just as excited about it as we were over here. :) Thank you for watching the video, I'm glad you enjoyed it! :D

    Mario 3 was an EXPERIENCE. The inability to save meant that you almost had to use warp whistles to get around, and that meant you had no idea where you'd wind up. Late into the night, you'd wind up in some cavern, bouncing precariously across some music note blocks, TOTALLY EAT IT, fall for what felt like several minutes through what could only be described as Plumbers' Purgatory, splash into pitch-black-yet-crystal-clear water, swim to the bottom, enter a pipe, and come out a nuclear waterfall into a matching subterranean garden with the most jazz-cup-ass ground design you've ever seen, as weird mutant Buzzy Beetles throw ice blocks at you, and the next morning, you'd think back and wonder whether or not it was even real. The game's huge size, inability to save, and willingness to get weird every now and again led to plenty of moments like this, and that's something that a lot of people don't realize made it as special as it is, even a lot of older folks like me who'd been around since the birth of Mario.
    Also, not gonna lie: I rewound this video several times just to hear you say Yume Koujo again; your pronunciation is so smooth.

    One thing I think you can improve for the future is heavily focusing more on your pronunciation when reading your script. I notice you often slur or completely miss the “th” sounds in many words like “depth.” Maybe consider slowing down a bit or practicing that syllable next time!
    Also I notice your mic probably isn’t too professional, so I suggest you add an equalizer plug-in to obs like “MarvelGEQ” to help with the depth of your voice and/or adjusting your voice recorder settings to capture the most of your voice!

      @Dutchess5  2 месяца назад

      Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed watching, friend. :) You definitely have a valid point there, and it's something I'm going to work on more than ever. I'm not sure why, but I always struggled with "th" sounds in words, even when I was super young. I'm not sure if it's because of a regional accent or some form of a speech impediment, but I'll find a way to work on it! I never heard of MarvelGEQ, but I'll definitely look into it now. :)

    "Being an early 2000s kid is awesome, don't get me wrong."
    Is it though? I mean I guess life in general isn't particularly awesome for the most part no matter when you're born, but I was born in '99 and I do think I would've enjoyed life overall more if I was born about 20 years earlier. I guess I'm not helping myself by mainly getting my music taste from my parents, so a lot of the artists I enjoy are a lot older than me and past their prime, and their releases difficult or expensive to find, and their gigs few and far between.

    • @Dutchess5
      @Dutchess5  2 месяца назад

      Well that's a pretty bleak outlook to have. I get it, life isn't easy and I guess it isn't "awesome" for most of it, but I'm really happy with how my life has been playing out so far, and how--and when--I was raised. I feel like I'm exactly where I need to be right now, and that makes me happy. 😁 Although I do get what you mean, I tend to prefer older artists too, but if you know where to look, even some of today's music is good, too. It's just hard to find them.
