I was on the pill for about 7 years, and I stopped 3 months ago for these reasons! I was on the lowest dose they make, but I still suffered unknowingly. I had no libido (which kind of defeats the purpose since I was trying to avoid pregnancy, doesn't make you even want sex) and I realized they were making me have mood swings and anxiety that eventually made me go into depression. Not on the pill, I feel 100% like myself again. Everyday I feel alert, happy, and don't feel like I have "brain fog" anymore. Oh, and the libido came back IMMEDIATELY. Now using NFP and my husband noticed the difference right away. Getting off the pill helped me and it strengthened our relationship too 😊 It feels so right for my body to be functioning as God intended! 💖
Thank you for sharing such important information for women!! I’ve been off the pill since I was 22. I’m 52 now. I love your beautiful heart and prayers for all of us.
I am utterly mortified after watching this video. I have been considering getting off the pill for awhile now and this video just furthers my belief that I should stop taking it. Thank you so much for the info!
It's depressing to see how women mindlessly defend the absurdity that came out of celibate (sexually oppressed) priests. You had no role in coming up with these doctrines. Think for yourself.
ive been on the pill for 11 years (im 24 now) and i can tell u its not somethin to mess with. i was mind-blown when i read a couple books concerning more holistic and honest approaches. birth control pills basically work by suppressing your ovaries and switching your hormones. very similar to the hormonal treatment used for women in menopause. pill induced bleeding isn't real periods, it's artificially induced. when i decided to take a break, i realized i had polycystic ovaries (post-pill PCOS) and i felt so awful. why wouldn't our doctors talk about it and just promise we'll have great skin bla-bla-bla.. the pills just masked the symptons of my missing periods, they didn't find and solve for the cause. looking forward to getting my period back 😞
I am proud to say that I have NEVER and will NOT take the Pill. I have prayed for a husband who respects my time, space, and BODY, (and other things). With the respect of my body, I pray that he doesn't treat my fertility as a disease having me take synthetic hormones that would put me in danger. Thanks for covering this topic, Jackie.
@@g.rodriguez7445 as long as the husband shares some house duties, that would be great! My dad helps my mom at times, their bonding is great because of that.
Could either of you do a video on depression and anxiety and how they impact a relationship? My anxiety and depression has been making it feel like nobody is out there for me but I'm waiting and hoping and growing in faith
You need to speak to a professional on mental illness, someone who is not mentally ill or is not a licensed therapist/psychologist wouldnt have any insight.
Hi! Nice to read your comment, I hope you’re okay today. Know that you are loved. My dad suffered from clinical depression for three years before he died from suicide in March of 2019... I can not imagine how much pain you are going through how much psychache.... there is a book I was given by someone who suffered the suicide of her husband last year and it’s call “Dying to be free” in any case I hope this’ll help you. God loves you and I love you hang in there :)
@@MattH-nd9qk you are right, a professional is best to reach out to. However, I'd hate if they downplayed his religious beliefs as many mental health professionals do.
Grettings from Spain.Thank you for this video. I was prescribed the pill as a teen and never told about side effects. The doctor didn't even dedicate me 10 minutes and I was on the pill for years. Now I respect myself more and I practise NFP, I wish I had known about it earlier.
Blood clots are true. After a miscarriage, the doctor prescribed the pill. Had to get off the pill after a few days because of the appearances of blue and black spots over my body, blood clots. Thank God for these. My first and last time on the pill. NFP is the best.
As someone who wants to be a physician one day, this is all very good information, especially knowing the studies are available. Thank you very much for covering all of this and, God bless all of you. You are doing His work and I would say, doing it very well.
SUCH GOOD INFO. oh my goodness.. the way it affects attraction is so interesting. Everyone should see this!! Thanks for posting this. Please never take it down. 🙏
This is so important! I have a hormone condition where my body does not naturally produce the hormones needed to have a cycle (at all). I was prescribed the pill by my doctor so I could have a regualr cycle, but I HATED the way I felt when I took it. Just recently, I brought this up to my new doctor and she suggested this thing called a Climara patch. It is a transdermal patch that transfers estrogen into my body over the span of a week (I change it once a week). When it's time for me to have a cycle, I just take progesterone pills for a week and a half and that's that. It's so important to be educated about what you are putting into your body. Always see if there are alternatives before making a huge decision about medications.
fertilitycare.org/find-a-mc There is a Facebook group for Creighton/NaPro if you are interested. I hope you get support for your hormone issues, it is so worthwhile to pursue!
Interesting I'm the same. When I started I would go 3-4 months w/o a period so my doc prescribed BC and have been regular since. But hm noted. Something to bring up at next appt. Thanks!
Wife and I have used the Crieghton Model Method of Natural Family Planning for 23 years and it WORKS. We have 2 kids, gifts from God, because we were not supposed to have them. We had Gyno laugh at us when we initially told him that we were going to use NFP and he literaly said "Ok, we will see about that, I'll see you here in nine months".
@@rachelpops9239 we used the Diocese sponsored program where they gave us instruction. I recommend you check out your local parish also they may have contacts for NFP methods.
You are so right. MDs are only taught to use medications to treat the SYMPTOMS but so many cannot DIAGNOSE and TREAT patients. If they dont do a careful family hx, it can cause further problems especially in estrogen feeding cancers. I only turn to prescriptions when all other options have failed to work. Most people NEVER READ those paper inserts w/ their pills or research what meds do to their body or how they interact w/ other drugs/ foods.
I was on and off the pill and I was on it for a total of 2 years. I honestly can’t take the pill for longer than a year at a time. Every time I take the pill; I had the worst temper and depression. I recently got off the pill about 9 days ago and I already feel so much better
I have a question, what happens when you stop taking the combined pill (by the end of the pack) you're gonna have withdrawal bleeding but how long does it last? (if you don't start with a new pack)
I was on the pill for a little over a year when I had a DVT blood clot in my left leg that became a pulmonary embolism. I was 20 years old and my Dr said I was 3 days away from death. The only cause they could come up with was the pill. I have permanent nerve damage in my leg and have had another DVT in the same leg since then (not pill related but I wonder if I would’ve gotten it if I hadn’t already had damage from the first one.) I’m not religious-I like to listen to different opinions- so I will never be convinced that contraception as a concept is wrong. I totally advocate for comprehensive sex education, but I definitely think that the health risks of the pill are not talked about enough. I wasn’t aware how serious the side effects were until they literally almost killed me. That’s reason enough to think twice about it. 10 years and 0 kids later, I’ve found condoms (as well as abstinence) work wonders. Cheers.
Jackie, Well done! Very interesting romantic side-effects. My wife and I of 28 years have 4 boys and 4 girls, and we love every one of them! The fact that breast cancer is heightened on the pill and outweighs the lowered risk of uterine/ovarian cancer by x6 is compelling! I'm so sorry women have been given such poor information and options Progesterone alone also has its issues. Any chemicals ingested must be considered harmful until proven otherwise. Instead, we view them as being helpful until proven otherwise. That's a big mistake. That women's health is a window to overall health is a clear sign that the pharmaceutical one-size-fits-all 'pill' is not the answer. I appreciate you and your husband stepping up and being vulnerable at times. Thank you greatly!
You know what she didn’t mention that also falls under that list of Group 1 carcinogens? Alcoholic beverages, processed meats like ham, salami and bacon, solar radiation, and outdoor air pollution, just to name few more. And this is easily searchable on google.
Also there is evidence to suggest that estrogen-progestogen oral contraceptives actually REDUCE the risk of cancer to the ovaries and endometrium. Also found on the same website that lists this as a group 1 carcinogen. Look it up please.
I came back to Catholicism after 20+ years away not believing. I could hardly believe that within a few years of coming back to God, he sent me a clear message that he wanted me to trust him with my fertility! I was so scared but trusted him and did as he asked (involved having a coil removed). My husband and I now use NFP and it's been great for us and our marriage. Praise God!
I'm Catholic and for many years have struggled with really bad acne. Started using the pill just for acne and it's amazing how much it's helped. I don't use it as a contraceptive since I'm not having sex. There are many different kinds of birth control out there that are different for everyone's body.
I was too but I got off and started using a more detailed to me acne medicine from a site called curelogy. I started dieting (drinking more water) too. Life changing. No problems with missing a pill on a day or side affects. The curelogy matches your skin specifically!
poison, and a life destroyer. are you not watching the video. there are hundreds of vids out there that show that this is a life destroyer. ya ever heard of eating a decent diet for the acne.
Wish I’d known bout this years ago. Was given the pill during teenage years for heavy bleeding and cramps. Continued on it for 10-12 years. Had all the various issues of weight gain, etc, but it never helped the original problem. Finally came off it to try and get pregnant after I got married. I was never able to conceive. Now 50 years old and just finished treatment for breast cancer (thanks be to God it has been cured). No history of breast cancer in my family.
Looking to stop the pill and this video made me call my doctor to book an appointment to get off of it and talk about it. Thank you so much for being so informative. I have been on it for 4 years and recently this year I have just felt soooo out of whack. I think getting off will do wonders for my hormones and mental health.
Sadly I was forced to get on it. When I turned 15 my mom took me to get a pap & had the doctor put me on the pill. I was a virgin but she assumed I was going out and having a lot of sex. She didn’t trust me. ☹️ the whole experience was very traumatic and upsetting as a young Christian girl. I’ve been on it for 11 years and am finally making the choice to go off of it
I remember when I was in high school, I had very irregular menstrual cycle and my primary doctor told me he could start me with the pill , thankfully I knew the pill is the worst thing to take, I asked the doctor if he could give me something else he was shocked he couldn’t give me another option he tried to convince me. It is sad doctors don’t have other options...
I was on the pill for less than a year and developed a pre-clot. I went off of it and have not used it since. I met my husband when I was not taking the pill and when I was on the pill, I was not attracted to him. We have a great relationship and will celebrate our 18th anniversary in a month.
Smh I’m 28 and I’ve never been on the pill until now. I’ve been taking them for only 2 months . I was prescribed them for pcos, hormonal acne, and facial hair . I feel like I’m already experiencing side effects like headaches , feeling drained and crappy, feeling more depressed , brain fog , less libido and I honestly feel like I’m growing more hair on my face smh 🤦🏾♀️ … I’m most definitely throwing them away !! It’s not worth it! Thank you for this information!

My sister took the pill since she was 16, stopped when she had breast cancer at age 42, died at 50 from the cancer recurring . Makes me so sad about that, butGod is merciful, and I sense she is okay.
This video is fantastic! I was linked to it as part of a Mystagogia class. I agree with most of it, but an important note: only SOME pills, the patch, and the nuvaring are combined estrogen-progestesterone contraceptives. Most pills are progesterone only and all other birth control types (depo, IUDs, nexplanon impant) are progesterone only (not combined). Otherwise, this is fantastic information and, as someone with PCOS and endometriosis, I am definitely a fan of advocating for more research into treating underlying causes for women's health issues other than always prescribing this "one size fits all" treatment.
I freaking love you for your attitude and response on this topic!!! Doctors really do try to feed every female the pill. In fact EVERY time I’ve went to a gyno, they have pressed it on me. It’s scary though considering I was told today that I have pcos and the pill is literally all they offer to help me. If you see this, could you please point me in the right direction for who to talk to or what to do in order to get healthier and safer help with pcos. Thank you!!
I was on and off the pill and patch from 16 to 21. I stopped taking it, started tracking my hormones with Mira, and stopped using tampons. My appetite, metabolism, and libido improved. My periods are almost painless, I might go one day where they’re uncomfortable and I just use a mini TENS unit. My period mood swings and cravings are less dramatic and unpredictable. I’m just a happier person now and everyone could tell the difference when I made these changes.
getting off the pill after this month, wanting to feel happy again. Scared about period pains as i used to have pretty bad pain, but i’m hoping it won’t hurt as much
It won’t. I got off the pill about 4 years ago, and the pain has never been as bad as it used to be. Get off it ASAP. Something I’ve discovered that helps for cramps (as contradictory as it seems) is massaging the area. I started doing that and now my cramps are much more manageable. You’ll see. You won’t feel the pain you had like before. But get off it ASAP because it truly is detrimental long term, and no one even talks about this. Look into NFP. I’ve been studying it in prep for marriage and it’s great. Wish they’d teach us this when we first get our period.
@@Vinegarissweet then don’t get off of it! Talk to your doctor. If the pill genuinely improves your quality of life, do not take advice from a Catholic RUclipsr who doesn’t know your medical history, isn’t a doctor, and is has presented this video with bias from the beginning. The pill carries risk just like any other medication. And just like every other medication, it may not be for everyone. It’s widely used because it helps people achieve their health goals (pain management, avoiding pregnancy, etc).
My IUD was supposed to last 5 years but in less than 2 years the strings stuck into my cervix and caused a lot of pain and made it painful to remove. Had it removed 2 days ago and already feel tons better! I’m very blessed it didn’t get infected. Edit: I wonder where I didn’t use it for super long if my chances of cancer went up or not😬
So many obgyns on tiktok victim blame and get mad at women who ask questions about the negative effects of birth control like cancer infertility depression etc. I can’t imagine what they’re saying to their patients.
I agree with some of the arguments in this video and I share the concern about the possible environmental issues, for example. But I also think that people should be objectively informed about stuff and that this video is too strongly biased to do that: 1. She mentions that the risk of blood clot can be 250% higher among pill users than other women. So, hypothetically, if the risk of blood clot is normally something like 0.1% (which I think is quite close to the truth), a 250% higher risk is still only a 0.35% risk of having a blood clot if you are normally healthy. Scaring people with such enormous relative numbers without telling the "real" numbers is misleading. 2. And we need to remember that the risk of a blood clot during pregnancy is naturally way higher than the risk caused by the pills. 3. In my understanding, the doctors do not recommend the pill if the woman already has a higher risk of blood clot due to obesity, smoking, genes (previous blood clots in the family) etc. 4. I think she doesn't state clearly in the video, that the risk of blood clot is only related to combined oral contraception, i.e. products that contain only progesterone (and not any estrogen) do not increase the risk! 5. About the other side effects, pills are different so if you have mood swings or other effects from one product you can try another product if it could be better. All medicine products have possible side effects! 6. Some women don't have other options for treating e.g. endometriosis. Saying that problems like that should be treated naturally is illogical if it's still okay for cancer patients, for instance, to use synthetic medicine. 7. Like mentioned in many previous comments, type 1 carcinogen group includes also things like processed meat and sunlight, so belonging to that group doesn't mean the pill is equally as dangerous as mustard gas etc. I admit that I'm glad she mentioned the decreased risk of ovarian, and some other, cancer types. The things about attraction to genetically dissimilar men and changes in sexual behaviour and so are also true, even though I think the video over exaggerates those things, like the positive changes in appearance during ovulation, since, after all, they last only a few days per month. Anyway, if you feel like not using the pill for your own reasons, it's your choice, but please search also other resources and don't only rely on youtube videos made in religious etc purposes when looking for information.
Hilla Mäkinen I have read on my own several of the studies that she mentioned. I read some of them over a decade ago when I was in school and we did a pros and cons about contraception, (public school) so we learned very good arguments from both sides without exaggeration. So no she's not exaggerating. She shared all her resources, actually reading through them will give you a more educated perspective. If I am a healthy human being with a healthy reproductive system, why would I want to increase my risk of blood clots, cancer, and many other side effects just because I don't want to get pregnant? I mean if I had a condition where my good health or my life are being threatened and I can be treated with something that has such side effects the I'll go for it, in the end my sickness would probably be more life threatening that the possible side effects. But if I am healthy why would I want to take a pill that's threatening my health? No thanks. As for obese people, yes they are prescribed the pill just like it is prescribed to any other person. Nope if you are at risk of blood clots because you're obese or even morbidly obese you're still going to be prescribed the pill, if you don't believe me go and Dona research on PCOS patients. You'll see how the first and most of the time the only thing they're prescribed is the pill, how. I've seen it first hand. So your comment on that is completely inaccurate. I invite you to read all the research that she shared on her website and other sources too.
@@adelinapachecosicairos1245 Good points. With exaggeration I was mostly referring to the changes in behaviour that have quite little to do with health, otherwise I believe the things were facts and it was good she shared the resources. I mean, I think it was more about creating strong "mental image" about how you are more feminine (or more "real") woman if you don't use the pill, even though many of the effects on appearance are actually quite small. But of course it's normal for anyone, like this or any other channel, to present things in the best way for them. No one has to get the pill if they don't need or want it. But many woman think the risks are worth of not getting pregnant. Maybe it's like driving a car; you might get into an accident but you consider the risks so small that you still drive. And about obesity, I should have mentioned that I'm from Finland and our health care system might be different from US :D or maybe I'm just confiding that doctors all around would always do their best. I just read some finnish health info about the pill and it was mentioned there that the pill is not recommended for obese people.
I am reading through the data you provided with your first point. It seems that you misinpreteted the scientific paper. In the abstract, it already states the conclusion: _Based on our estimates, oral contraceptive use resulted in a net protective effect among the cancer sites studied, thus reducing the cancer burden in Alberta in 2012._ So the only thing we can conclude it that the pil has as a net- *benefit* effect. This is furder explained in the conclusion: _Although oral contraceptives and hormone therapy are both classified as carcinogens, the net effect of population attributable risks are different when multiple cancer sites are considered._ So even while the substances are carciogenic, combined in the pill it reduces cancer risk. if you make a point using scientific data, please be more carefull. As a youtube channel you have a big influence and responsibility.
good thing the science argument means so little in comparison to the immorality perpetuated by it. one does not need scientific data to prove the illicit nature of the pill.
yeah, you right, but still good reasons to dont use it, more than using it,may not the cancer one, but Thanks God, nobody deserve to have cancer, specially because of thing they may never know or were not concerned.
Oh great I have HORRIBLE cramps on my period till the point of rolling around crying in searing pain. No pain killers work and I just got put on the pill. Don't know what else to do.
Yes. This. I ditched recently after 20 years of pill then Nuvaring. I'm 41, and the withdrawal was awful, but a few weeks later I'm feeling SO much better. My main and worst symptoms were constant waking dizziness and tight chest. I also had no clue that bc wreaks havoc on the immune system, isn't recommended for anyone with an autoimmune disease, and depletes numerous vitamins and minerals. Insane that the OBs don't know and or care. I'll look into your contraceptive method! Thank you.
I was on the pill for more than 10 years. I started as a young teen as my periods came too quickly after each other and the pain and bleeding was so heavy. I've been of it for a while now just because I was wondering what my periods were like naturally as a 26 year old and if I was putting something in my body for no reason. Now I've watched this I'm even happier I stopped. The pain is still awful, but I rather take ibroprufen for 2 days a month than take a hormonal pill almost everyday. Thanks for such an informative video
I regret ever starting the pill at 18 and that has little to do with me converting to Catholicism. I'm facing a stage 4 diagnosis of endometriosis because the pills/patches/implants I took from 18-30.
I never took the pill once in my entire life. And I had some of the worst stage 4 endometriosis my doctor and some of the other surgeons had ever seen. It doesn't necessarily mean you got it because you took the pill. I highly doubt that it had anything to do with it
I started the pill when I was 20 after 1 year on it, I was super depressed insicure and super emotional. Didn't do any of my hobbies, no will to draw or workout. My periods where like 10 times worse than before, painful and heavier. When I told all of these symptoms to my doctor she laughed in my face saying that I was over reacting. Needless to say I've been off the pill since mid of 2021 and I've never been happier.
Did you have any side effects when you got off the pill? I want to stop too but I keep reading these horror stories from women that got horrible acne and weight gain after quitting. My doctor won't listen to me either
The Mind Muse look up the RUclipsr Sarah’s day she struggled with pcos and realized going without the pill and changing her diet and lifestyle was much better!
Claudine Atienza Super true! I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17. I’m 19 now and have been having a pretty normal period all year. I also decided to put off 30lbs and realized that the weight loss and tracking my calorie intake has assisted my cycle so much!!! I definitely recommend changing your diet and maintaining a healthy lifestyle!

🥰 I took the Pill on and off from 1989 through 2009. 🥰 I am childless and happy. Don’t troll me for telling my truth or leave me sad faces! I am happy and post-menopausal 🥰 (no, I never had an abortion and no reproductive cancers, and not cheating on my dear husband)
I love this video! I shared it with many of my friends but I have found that so many of my friends are on the IUD or other forms of BC. We should make videos that are about ALL hormonal BC because it’s all bad.
I was on the pill for one month and ditched it IMMEDIATELY! I bled for a week two weeks after my real period. Something didn't feel right. Never got a refill. During that time, I was having sex and was scared. So, ran to a doctor and got on the pill. The doctor said the pill doesn't work until a month into it. So, during that month. I reflected on my actions. I researched information about the pill and saw immediate side-effects. It didn't take long to see what I was doing to my body physical, mentally, and spiritually. God didn't want me to do this to my body, so why would I want to do this?
same in nursing school... I took an OB (women's health) class and I specifically remember one time during lecture, my professor was teaching about different types of medical conditions (endometriosis, PCOS, etc.). It was a long lecture and half way through, after saying "give them birth control" so much, it became a gag that my classmates were following along with and I just couldn't believe it
Thank you so much for creating this video!! I knew about most of these issues, and am excited to see the others in this series, but there was one thing that stuck out to me toward the end of the video, something I don't remember hearing about: how the pill affects Fallopian Tube contractions. This is concerning to me as a nurse because if conception occurs and the new life cannot be propelled to the uterus quickly enough (due to altered Fallopian contractions), it would seem that there would be a much greater risk of tubal pregnancies. The new life, at the embryonic stage, having attached to Mom's Fallopian Tube because of not having reached the uterus in time, once large enough, will burst Mom's tube. Little one will die, and there's a big risk of Mom dying, too, due to tubal hemorrhaging. Thank you for posting this video!
Even though I am called to celibacy, I pray for my married brothers and sisters to have faith that God will take care of all the children that unbridled love and affection send you. I say avoiding contraception of any sort is a wonderful way of strengthening your faith! 😁GOD WILL PROVIDE!!😁
Ur godsend. I totally agree with everything you are saying so I stopped the pill a few years ago. I experienced almost all of those physical side effects you were talking about. I am never gonna take any pill again ever.
Does anyone here experience insomnia after coming off the pill? I have this chronic insomnia going for 5 months now after coming off the pill. I tried to go back to it for 3 wks, i can sleep again first 2 nights buy back to insomnia so i quit BC pill again. Maybe i should give it more time to work? Much appreciated If you can share similar experience as i am desperate for solution.
You mention "the pill" there are lots of versions out there. Me, as a woman, I take one that balances the excess of testosterone hormane I naturally produce (after months of blood tests and some invasive investigations). So taking the pill is actually beneficial for me
I’ve looked into this too. If your periods are irregular there might be an alternative hormone therapy. If the are regular (like mine) I haven’t found an alternative method. The Pope Paul VI institute might be able to help (a catholic fertility center). When I talked to them they weren’t able to help besides saying that taking the pill FOR A MEDICAL REASON is ok. She pointed me to Humane Vita and it falls under “double effect”. It crusted me that I went untreated for a long time (needed several iron transfusions and nearly a blood transfusion). I believed that treatment would be a mortal sin so I just delt with it. Turns out it isn’t, and people aren’t quite caticised right. I think we try so hard to convince people not to take it that we ignore the exceptions to avoid confusing people.
Hi! So severe period pain or excessive heavy bleeding is not normal, and I think a NaPro doctor can help you figure out what is causing those and what treatment is best for your case. But if you're talking about a relatively reasonable amount, I can only tell you what helps me: exercise daily, walking during cramps (a must), drinking lots of liquid, not eating much carbs those days, and in some instances just accepting that pain is a part of life and that it will pass (and practicing some sort of relaxing breathing exercise helps with this).
ojiverdeconfleco I talked to a doc the Paul VI institute and they weren’t able to help in my case. This organization is dedicated to finding alternatives to contraception. They are authenticly Catholic. My bleeding was excessive enough to need transfusions. Not to mention ruining clothes bc I bleed through my over night maxi pad and largest tampon size in an hour or so. The exhaustion was really unbelievable. I looked into other ways of managing this, but not even a catholic fertility center was able to find an alternative. So I’m glad diet and exercise work for you, but unfortunately it won’t work for everyone. They’re just aren’t alternative methods for some people. If I’d been told contraception was immoral in my case I wouldn’t use it.
Thank you for actually sharing scientific facts about the birth control pill that women all around the world (myself included) have never been properly informed about before they have been callously been perscribed the birth control pill. I am very grateful for your bravery in sharing your honest opinion on this medication. Thanks to you my eyes have been opened and I will feel confident making a well-informed decision regarding my health. God bless you.
The first time I tried to take the pill, I started growing tons of facial hair. Now I get a beard. The second time I tried to take it I had to stop due to extreme bouts of rage. The third time the doctor said was to try to combat the facial hair growth and my hair started falling out on top of my head and the hair on my face is worse. So my advice? Dont take the pill.
It was first approved by the FDA under the name Enovid. It was approved as a medication for heavy periods with a side effect of preventing pregnancy because the FDA at first, in the 1950s, wouldn't approve it as a preventative for pregnancy. In the 1960s, just at the very start of the sexual revolution, it was approved as a preventative for pregnancy to healthy women. This is per an article from The National Geographic.
My husband and I wanted to start our family, so I stopped taking the pill and I definitely felt better once I was off it. I don't think I'll go back to it again.
I have a question, what happens when you stop taking the combined pill (by the end of the pack) you're gonna have withdrawal bleeding but how long does it last? (if you don't start with a new pack)
@@HeyU837 should be like normal withdrawal bleed (I just ended my last pill period) but expect puberty like hormonal stuff. Some worse than others lasts like 3-5 months for alpt of folks but should level out
Took the pill for only a month and i stopped, because i felt nauseous. Then i read it could cause bloodclots i was like noooooooo thank you!!! Adding this to my Jackie wisdom file.
You are completely correct about estrogen‘s role in blood clotting. However, when I asked my doctor about this, the reason that birth control pills are prescribed even though these risks are present is because the risk of pulmonary embolism and blood clotting while pregnant is much greater than the risk of blood clotting and pulmonary embolism while using birth control.
I got my birth control out my arm after two and a half years.. I had it in do to peer pressure from Doc after having baby.. anyway had it taken out last month and haven’t had a period since so I hope it didn’t mess up my body.. before birth control I had a period every two to three weeks.
Check out your local NaPro doctor they will be able to guide you in the right direction. But it would probably be to learn a NFP method to get you to learn how YOUR OWN body's fertility work, then with those charts the doctor will determine what type of blood work you need to come up with a treatment plan. * I know first hand that asking a doctor, their response will only be "the pill" they straight out tell you that there's no other option and that the pill will not cure it but only mask the symptoms. I ask many questions to the Obgyn of a family member (a teenager for whom I was the accompanying adult during her doctor visit) and she looked clueless, her response to all my questions was the pill. I was frustrated, and so was the teenager.
I’m always weary when fellow Catholics are so anti pill. I know the Church teachings. I am single, chaste, and am currently on the pill. Before anyone goes attacking me, yes I do have a NaPro doctor and our last resort was the pill. I’ve seen several specialists and we have tried absolutely everything short of surgery that can help me, but unfortunately at the current moment, the pill is the only thing that works. I don’t experience any of these side effects whatsoever. In fact, I firmly believe the pill helped my depression and anxiety. I think if you’re on the pill for relatively minor issues, then yes, go off of it. But ALWAYS consult your doctor first, and if you are on the pill for a more severe issue, please please do not beat yourself up for not being able to go off of it.
Thank you so much for this. I agree it's important to be well informed, always strive for the healthiest options as per your independent situation and not feel bad when a certain option is genuinely your last resort.
Exactly. I am also on the pill for health reasons- mainly to regulate an awful cycle and to control terrible mood swings. Always talk to your doctor first!
I think a lot of women (and doctors) are using it as a convenience vs. changing lifestyle. Diet and exercise *should be* the first thing any doctor/med pro looks at.
As long as you are not having sex that is risking the life of your child I don't believe the Church frowns on the pill for health reasons. Problem is it is very rarely really helping your health. The negatives far outway the positives. Although the pill doesn't help with making your period more regular or in a better "cycle". You are NOT in a cycle at all on the pill, your body is just forcing break through bleeding because it wants to do what it is supposed to do. Better to find out WHY your period is jacked up and fix the problem instead of masking the issue. Jackie never even mentioned the statistics on infertility of pill users. Poor women go off the pill and NEVER give birth. I hope her next video covers the great alternatives that are PRO WOMEN and are good for us. She didn't come out and say it but sex is soooooo much better off the pill too! Just the environmental aspects are scary enough. If it is messing up our wildlife what is it doing to our insides? One statistic I read said 10 years on the pill means your chances were almost 100% that you were pregnant and chemically aborted at least one of your children and were 50% more likely to have breast cancer. Very scary.
heavenly flame Considering I said I was single and chaste, I’m definitely not having sex. These are the kinds of comments I’m talking about that. Are you a doctor? I said I have seen several specialists including NaPro doctors who agreed the pill was the best and safest option for me. No, the negatives do not outweigh the positives in my case. Also, if you actually break down the hormones in the birth control pill, you’ll see that many women are actually prescribed them on a normal, daily basis. Like progesterone for example. But that’s besides the point. So long as a woman is following Church teaching, the decision should be between her and her doctor. Yes I believe the pill is overprescribed and women should definitely be informed of all their options, but a lot of us have actually exercised said options and it didn’t work.
"I'm taking a chemical compound don't know anything about, but it made my periods better, maybe helped with acne and allows me to sleep around, I'm all in!"... Idk why people take their lives and bodies so lightly... And why they're later outraged if there's bad consequences. My mom told me to never get a girlfriend who's on birth control because she'll have hormonal disblance AND she chose the easy and uninformed route, which speaks volumes about character, and I've yet to see anything to disprove that amazing piece of advice.
This is the dumbest comment I’ve read here so far. What do you care if women take the pill and “sleep around”? It’s none of your business. Your mom, if this is true, gave really sexist, idiotic advice. The pill does help some with acne and periods. If a woman takes purely for birth control and has ten partners, that’s her business. Mind yours. If you judge a woman by her birth control choices, you’re a fool.
Did I misunderstand something, or wasn’t contraception as a MORTAL SIN mentioned? Because...it is official Church teaching that contraception (ANY contraception) is a grave sin...
Melissa Eberhart I did not say that the arguments shouldn’t be there, just the only reason for Catholicd not to use contraception is simply the fact that it is a mortal sin. So it should be here
It is a mortal sin, but anyone who isn't Catholic or a believer listening to this video isn't going to care. I think it's wise to give secular reasons so this can be used as a tool for people outside the church.
It’s funny that you mentioned the Department of HHS saying that it’s possible to abort while using the pill. I was in an interview for a job once at my state’s Public Health Dep. and the director kind of bullied me into admitting that contraceptives do not cause abortions. Don’t exactly remember my response, and I didn’t take the job due to low pay but nevertheless I was completely horrified at the way he was cornering me into denying my faith (and science!) when the job I was applying for had nothing to do with health services. Thanks for the insight in this video!
It's possible that people don't want to discuss the abortifacient properties because they don't want to think about all the children that never implanted. I've heard that even without the Pill, up to 2/3rds of fertilized embryos fail to implant. If we as Catholics believe that life begins at fertilization, the number of infants that die naturally prior to implantation could exceed the number lost to deliberate abortion. It's natural for some embryos to die, and I guess some of them may not have enough of the right DNA to be human, but it is difficult to think about whether we have conceived children that died and we have no idea they ever existed.
So what? Your God murdered a bunch of innocent egyptian newborns, David's innocent baby, a man's children to test his loyalty, flood babies and children, sent bears to kill children and invented miscarriages, childbirth and pregnancy which end the lives of millions and children and babies with birth defects that are incompatible with life and die days after birth in agonizing pain. Doubt he'd care about some egg
I was always against the pill.Especially at 20 years old being pregnant and I over heard the gynocologist telling a patient over the phone about side effects including, blood clots and heart attack,I was like that is all I need to hear.Once a gynocologist told me to use the pill for my oily skin and breakouts, but I declined.Last year I was placed on it and I took it because I was having bleeding issues caused by polyps.I hate being on the pill and I'm getting off the the pill.I don't feel it has done nothing good for me,because I have bad moodswings. My skin feels dry, still oily ,not too many break outs.I have had break through bleeding because I have missed the pill and I experienced it again but I only took it late.I read an article that a gynocologist still ovulated while taking the pill.A women told me that her doctor told her that they have to offer the pill so they aren't held accountable if you have an issue.
I don’t use birth control but my mom who know longer can have babies, does because it helps her endometriosis bleeding and pains... is it okay for that?
This comment kind of annoys me... I’m catholic, but religion should have nothing to do with women’s physical health.. now it makes me think this video was created for with another intention than just properly informing women

I’m a 100% done with the pill. Thank you for this video.
ive been on the pill for 11 years (im 24 now) and i can tell u its not somethin to mess with. i was mind-blown when i read a couple books concerning more holistic and honest approaches. birth control pills basically work by suppressing your ovaries and switching your hormones. very similar to the hormonal treatment used for women in menopause. pill induced bleeding isn't real periods, it's artificially induced. when i decided to take a break, i realized i had polycystic ovaries (post-pill PCOS) and i felt so awful. why wouldn't our doctors talk about it and just promise we'll have great skin bla-bla-bla.. the pills just masked the symptons of my missing periods, they didn't find and solve for the cause. looking forward to getting my period back 😞
I am proud to say that I have NEVER and will NOT take the Pill. I have prayed for a husband who respects my time, space, and BODY, (and other things). With the respect of my body, I pray that he doesn't treat my fertility as a disease having me take synthetic hormones that would put me in danger. Thanks for covering this topic, Jackie.

You are so right. MDs are only taught to use medications to treat the SYMPTOMS but so many cannot DIAGNOSE and TREAT patients.
I'm so sorry women have been given such poor information and options
Progesterone alone also has its issues.
Exactly!
It's about time someone made a great video about this topic! Thank you for posting. So many people need to hear this!!!
Praise God!

This video is fantastic! I was linked to it as part of a Mystagogia class.

It won’t. I got off the pill about 4 years ago, and the pain has never been as bad as it used to be. Get off it ASAP. Something I’ve discovered that helps for cramps (as contradictory as it seems) is massaging the area. I started doing that and now my cramps are much more manageable. You’ll see. I agree with some of the arguments in this video and I share the concern about the possible environmental issues, for example. But I also think that people should be objectively informed about stuff and that this video is too strongly biased to do that:
In the abstract, it already states the conclusion: _Based on our estimates, oral contraceptive use resulted in a net protective effect among the cancer sites studied, thus reducing the cancer burden in Alberta in 2012._
So the only thing we can conclude it that the pil has as a net- *benefit* effect.
This is furder explained in the conclusion:
_Although oral contraceptives and hormone therapy are both classified as carcinogens, the net effect of population attributable risks are different when multiple cancer sites are considered._
So even while the substances are carciogenic, combined in the pill it reduces cancer risk.
if you make a point using scientific data, please be more carefull.
Well my birth control says it can cause liver cancer and like strokes so do with that what you will
You would’ve told me this 10 years ago, I would’ve said, you’re nuts. But being older and wiser, I’m open to this advice now.
I've read that taking natural progesterone could help with that because estrogen dominance can cause heavy painful periods.
@@meganmaywald4526 I didn’t know that! Thank you 😊
I regret ever starting the pill at 18 and that has little to do with me converting to Catholicism.
I highly doubt that it had anything to do with it
@@Gluz25 I didn't say that. Hormonal contraception covered up the symptoms.
lalaithan you don’t get that from taking the pill. That’s a generic thing.
Please make a video about better options for PCOS. I was considering taking the pill because that’s all my GP recommended to me
The Mind Muse look up the RUclipsr Sarah’s day she struggled with pcos and realized going without the pill and changing her diet and lifestyle was much better!
Look into B6, magnesium, and going dairy free
Claudine Atienza Super true! I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17. I’m 19 now and have been having a pretty normal period all year. I also decided to put off 30lbs and realized that the weight loss and tracking my calorie intake has assisted my cycle so much!!! I definitely recommend changing your diet and maintaining a healthy lifestyle!
Hey! great video!!! I would have loved to see the numbers pop up on the screen somehow when you talk about statistics. I'm a visual learner as well as audio learner
Good for you, it’s your decision and you don’t have to listen to people telling you what you’re “allowed” to do
I love this video!
This video is amazing and super informative! Thank you thank you thank you! I can’t wait for the rest of the videos.
same in nursing school...
I simply don't love my fellow man enough for lent. It's that simple and honest. You people are owed honesty, at least.
So taking the pill is actually beneficial for me
.was lucky to have my faith respected through these years..
WOW. I need to rewatch this and catch every gem she threw.
What alternatives to the pill are there that are safer and don’t mess with your hormones as much but can reduce period pain / heaviness of periods?
K M maybe try a cup instead of tampons/pads? I haven’t tried it myself but I have heard it helps!
I recommend the Vitae Clinic. There is one in Austin that helps women with all sorts of problems.
Dont take the pill.
definitely left me with homework to do. Thank you for all the information.
Interesting to note: the Pill was the FIRST medication to be approved by the FDA for a person that was not sick.
Big Pharma win right there
Pretty sure that this is myth.

However, when I asked my doctor about this, the reason that birth control pills are prescribed even though these risks are present is because the risk of pulmonary embolism and blood clotting while pregnant is much greater than the risk of blood clotting and pulmonary embolism while using birth control.
your pregnant 9months average mabey 2-4 times on average and you take bc like 3/4th the year every year your not pregnant ...
I got my birth control out my arm after two and a half years.. I had it in do to peer pressure from Doc after having baby.. anyway had it taken out last month and haven’t had a period since so I hope it didn’t mess up my body.. before birth control I had a period every two to three weeks.
Excellent content as usual, Jackie!

Can you share the other treatment options instead of, for things like hormonal imbalances and PCOS?
Yes please! I hate the way the pill made me feel, I'm currently on metformin for PCOS. I'd like a more natural way to treat it.
Wouldn't it be better to ask to doctor?
Low carb diet and fasting?
@@saracaselli4572 the same ppl shoving the pill into out face?
Amazing, thank you so much for sharing

Did I misunderstand something, or wasn’t contraception as a MORTAL SIN mentioned? Because...it is official Church teaching that contraception (ANY contraception) is a grave sin...
Amen! Unless it's used for other reasons.
That’s not a reason most people will accept sooooo the arguments given here might be more convincing to those people. So be happy about that 👍
Melissa Eberhart I did not say that the arguments shouldn’t be there, just the only reason for Catholicd not to use contraception is simply the fact that it is a mortal sin. So it should be here
It is a mortal sin, but anyone who isn't Catholic or a believer listening to this video isn't going to care. I think it's wise to give secular reasons so this can be used as a tool for people outside the church.
@@gerard1867 as a non religious person I wholeheartedly agree
It’s funny that you mentioned the Department of HHS saying that it’s possible to abort while using the pill. I was in an interview for a job once at my state’s Public Health Dep. and the director kind of bullied me into admitting that contraceptives do not cause abortions. Don’t exactly remember my response, and I didn’t take the job due to low pay but nevertheless I was completely horrified at the way he was cornering me into denying my faith (and science!) when the job I was applying for had nothing to do with health services. Thanks for the insight in this video!
So can I ask or u against contreceptives if so what’s a good and realistic solution for women to have safe sex

You need to go back to sex Ed. None of what you said has any factual merit.
