Freddie wrote that song for Mary, his first love that he was engaged to. Eventually he came out, but they remained friends and she really was the love of his life. He left the bulk of his entire estate to her.

it was recorded on may 30th 1991 at studio's in london, freddie, john and roger were present that day but brian was out of the country on promotional duties and filmed his sequencies later then they were added digitally at a later date 👑✊🇬🇧
Your right when you say Freddie looks so comfortable on stage. It is the one place where he felt he was exactly where he was meant to be. He loved performing, and he adored his fans.
Not many on earth have been loved enough to enjoy 80000 people singing their own song back to them perfectly. Simply the best lead vocalist. He will never be bettered.
In the studio version, because Freddie asked him to, Brian May taught himself to play an actual Harp just enough for some of this song's melody. It's very lovely. Reminds me of when once Brian teased John that he wanted a double bass for another one of his own songs, so John goes home & learns to play the danged thing. Those guys, I tell you!

according to Brian May Freddie Mercury had much improved his voice & singing skills after he sang in the studio for the first time as we know Freddie was a perfectionist in what he did
Queen is the only group in which each member composed more that one number 1 hit. Freddie Mercury - Don't Stop Me Now, Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody To Love, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Are The Champions John Deacon - Another One Bites The Dust, I Want To Break Free, You're My Best Friend. Roger Taylor - Radio Ga Ga, A Kind Of Magic, These Are The Days Of Our Lives. Brian May - Fat Bottomed Girls, We Will Rock You, and Who Wants To Live Forever Each of them was wonderfully talented and creative artist. No autotune needed, just pure talent and hard work.
He actually was asked something in an interview along the lines of how is it being the leader of the band? Freddie said I'm not the leader I'm the lead singer I'm not a general we are all four equal people.
Deacon also wrote Your my Best Friend. Freddie also wrote ten total hits. Their song Friends will be Friends was played at Freddie’s funeral after they played Aretha Franklin hymn and his opera diva friend Monserrat Caballe he did an album with sang his favorite Verdi classical opera song. Legend.
This song (written by Freddie for Mary Austin) was frequently used as an audience participation song, here he only had about a 72,000 strong choir, at the "Rock in Rio 1985" concert he had at least a quarter of a million, most with English as at best a second language, they still did a good job. Let us not forget Brian had to sit on a stool playing a 12 string acoustic guitar, with no accompaniment (major confidence required).
You 2 really have become my favorites. How is it possible that you have not reacted to Queen at Live Aid? The greatest 20 minutes in Rock and Roll history
Did you know that Brian May, who is the guitarist here (and the composer of many of Queen’s big hits) is now Dr Brian May, Astrophysicist and at some time head of university in Britain (Liverpool if I recall correctly). He is highly regarded.
Freddie could sing the phone book and it would be a hit! He was the ultimate frontman. He held the crowds in the palm of his hand!!

I had the good fortune to see Queen and Freddie live two times in the 80's (1984 and 1986, the same year and tour as this video). The best showman on stage ever.
New to RUclips. I'm an "older" lady, and I have loved Queen (and of course, specifically FM) since they came on the scene, and now all these years later I get to see younger people react to their greatness. You two are so full of joy and happiness. I just love watching you two. Please react to more Live Queen performances, and Freddie Mercury performances. Check out Barcelona, How can I go On, and the Golden Boy Live at La Nit. Fantastic performances by FM and Montserrat Caballe.
When Queen plays live now, Brian sings this song and plays acoustic guitar. But for the last verse they play this video on the big screen with Freddie singing, and the crowd loses it. There are even some tears. I was a teenager when this song came out, and the lyrics pierced my heart.
I am 63 years old and first saw queen on television in 1974 as a very young 15 year old. I have loved them since that day. All very accomplished musicians with, in my humble opinion, the greatest front man ever to take the stage. After their performance at Live Aid Brian and Freddie came back on stage and performed "Is this the world we created". Given your reactions to queen I think you would love it. Thank you for your brilliant reactions. Take care. Best wishes from the UK.
I was there, right underneath the spotlight you can see in shots from behind Freddie, what a night. The best gig I've ever been to, Freddie was the GOAT, he was put on this planet to do exactly what he did.
The way Freddie sang to every corner of the audience is why this gig was iconic, he went to the very edge of both sides of the stage & sang to those people too, he involved everyone.. Thats an artist.. He is the benchmark on how to be a frontman.. RIP Freddie..
These lyrics although written for Mary at the time, all these years later can apply to Freddie also. Bring it back, bring it back don't take it away from me, because you don't know what it means to me !!! ♥️♥️♥️
Yeah, one 12 string acoustic guitar, one powerful pure voice, and some-hundred thousands of souls hypnotized! You're right, this is what Freddie was born to do. God give us another one like him, we need it bad. 😇

Freddie did not really have professional voice training - he had childhood piano lessons, and he did sing in chorus at the boarding school back in India, but again only as a kid. A few different bands he was in before and immediately after he first met Roger and Brian - none of which had real success, just an occasional gig. Things only started to click when he joined Roger and Brian’s band Smile, after their original singer/bassist Tim Staffell left (Tim was a friend of Freddie’s from Ealing Art College) - and they changed the name to Queen in 1970. - bassist John Deacon joined in 71 after several other bassists didn’t work out. For the most part, Freddie’s voice was sheer talent as well as a lot of hard work to gain more control over his natural rapid vibrato.
Freddy was quite shy in everyday life, just on stage his true inner self seem to come out so free, what a voice… another one of the greats gone way too soon
