- I have been waiting for this new Grand Seiko Spring Drive SBGY007 Omiwatari for a long time. This is the first time Grand Seiko has created a non-limited stainless steel version of a Spring Drive with the power reserve on the caseback side leaving the Omiwatari inspired watch face clean and easy to view.

This is pure unadulterated PERFECTION
For years I wanted watch companies to place the power reserve indicator on the back viewing side of the movement. From a functionality consideration, it's only looked at / needed when placing the watch on after some time of non-use.
Beautiful review Derek!!! Such an amazing piece can’t wait to see one of these in the metal!
Spitting fire bro! Keep up the great work!
Really informative and engaging. Thanks for the video!
Your channel deserves a ton more of subscribers... Wish you success
Wonderful Grand Seiko model. Mesmerizing to look at grail dress watch with out hi cost. One of Grand Seiko spring driver best. To me Grand Seiko watches are works of art and finishing. I own a heritage 9F quartz and can stare at the watch all to long. Hope one day for a spring drive model. Thanks You sir for the presentation. Stay healthy and safe.
God level watch. Tremendous value for the money. Astonishing dial that is.
Agreed!
This watch is amazing period
What a beautiful watch. I was thinking of adding a skyflake because of the light blue dial, this year but now I having seeing this piece I have some more thinking to do.
I love it. Ticks (pun intended) all the issues I had with previous Spring Drive watches; namely the placement of the power reserve gauge and thickness/lug-to-lug.
Yes!!
It’s simply beautiful.
I can’t take my eyes off of it!
The spring drive is the Tesla of watches. I own the sbgy003. Beautiful watch. This one too.
Great job!
GS did a great job!
GRAIL!
Beautiful piece
I agree!
I am surprised at how easy these dressier watches are to read. I absolutely love dress watches and prefer them mostly to divers. While I love divers, there's something about a dress watch that brings me back
I agree! There’s something about a beautiful simple dress watch that is so appealing!
the more mature and refined version of my SBGA407...drool
Absolutely stunning, the only itchy I got is the why spring drive annotation and if needs to be there, the the font. Everything else is supreme.
Probably to help differentiate this from the standard mechanical manual wind versions so it’s easy to know which is which
The Japanese are amazing with their own fonts, but pretty awful when picking English fonts.
Old video, as these things go, but is the strap really blue? I just got one, and I see black with a cool blue stitching that links to the blued second hand.
Incredible. Do you have it on bracelet?
Just picked up one of these from Carat & Co. Friendly staff and a beautiful watch. In a couple of years, we'll make our way upstairs to the Vacheron section?...
Congratulations! One of my favorite GS’s! Hope you wear it in great health and enjoy it. VC would be great down the line
I wonder after owning and staring this kind dial in GS, how many people want to travel to Japan.
For me yes and if anything I’ll take any excuse to go to Japan 😆
I can concur after trying on this watch, it is stunning!
After I sold my Nomos Tangente 38, l’ve been on the lookout to replace this with a dress watch to compliment my current collection of Submariner 124060, Omega Speedmaster 1863, Tudor Pelagos FXD, Sinn 103 sa BE and Sinn 856 S UTC 🤔
Can’t decide between the GS or the timeless Cartier Santos Medium seen in your other review. Decisions...!
Both! I have the Santos, but still want the Omiwatari as well
I just picked one up at the grand Seiko Boutique !!, it’s amazing!.
Congrats! Fantastic pick up
@@MinuteMon it’s very different from my F.P. Journe Elegante 48 with dark green rubber band!, but I admire it just the same !!.
@@cd1934 wow, nice collection
Let's makes this watch valuable
But what's the resale value on this watch? (Joking). It's an amazing timepiece, no regrets buying it over Reverso & PanoMaticLunar. Too bad my wife thinks it looks better on my wrist so I'll probably give my SBGA413 to her.
😍😍😍😍😍
I wish more Grand Seikos came without date complications.
Me too
Omiwatari is The best grandseiko
@4:16 Are you sure it's navy blue strap ? coz everywhere else say black strap.
Does it have a ghost setting in the crown?
Seen this watch up close. A bit expensive. The back is not so attractive for a mechanical watch. But the ONLY reason that stopped me from pulling out my credit card, the feel of the winding has no clicks, not something I enjoy every 3 days. I have the Sky Flake, but it is automatic, so no need to wind it if I am going to wear it for a week or more. Everything else is perfect for this watch. Still waiting for my White Birch.
TGV reported that Oniwatari has a ghost position on the crown. Can you please confirm?
I actually have the Skyflake, and wanted to get the Omiwatari...are they the same color?
I really want a comparison video xD
Yes.
This is a very attractive watch and I would definitely own one if I didn't have the Eichi II. That said, I am not a fan of this case design. It looks much more bulky than it actually is.
Agree fully on the case design comment. I want to want this watch so badly, but I'm just not sure I'm completely sold on the case shape.
@Oom Soutie I went to see it a few days ago. The case design was the only negative for me. Think I'll wait for other versions to come out unless I get a really good offer on this.
They put a sapphire caseback on the watch and then hide the movement with a metal plate. So funny.
Hi Derek, I'm truly at a point of conflict. While I love your content, your channel is extrmely bad for my wallet. I saw this video yesterday, and I sit here now with the watch which I purchased from your store along with another GS that caught my eye. All kidding aside, I love your channel and keep up the great work. Jeanne is amazing and was extremely helpful during the whole process. I may need to unsubscribe to save my wallet, jk.
Why did Seiko go through the effort of putting a glass back and not remove more material to allow more visibility on the movement? Am I missing something?
Different style. I am sure they did it on purpose
Some components are sensitive to light so they need to cover them.
@R Charm it’s a manual wind no rotor
@@ditmerk as opposed to on accident?
I wish this were 2 hands only
How does the leather strap feel
Stiff at first but comfortable after getting some wear in
Beautiful watch but little too expensive
The nature storytelling thing is getting out of hand.
Still s beatiful watch
pretty but looks huge
Looks like someone sawed off its legs .
3 bar water resistant gets me worried that it won't survive wearing it in the showers.
You should NOT wear that in the shower lol
@@MinuteMon just that peace of mind really. At least I’ll need to know it won’t have issues with humidity, like leaving it in the shower room with lots of steam. Submerge it in a fish tank to grab a dead fish out of etc you get the idea.
Babying a watch all the time is not a good way to enjoy a timepiece. Some people may be okay but I’d rather look elsewhere for a more solid build. Albeit it is a stunning watch.
@@khazelnut Totally understand, this SBGY007 is made more of a dress watch so its not surprising that it would only have 3 bar water resistance, luckily there's a ton of other options out there that can handle water well.
Lovely. BUT NOT GOOD VALUE AT ALL COMPARED TO MY SKYFLAKE WHICH IS #1 IN WORLD AND 60% OF NEW PRICE OF THIS BABY !
So is Spring drive a mechanical watch trying to be a quartz watch or a quartz watch trying to be a mechanical watch? At its core its a quartz analogue watch. OK it doesn't;'t use a battery but it still uses a quartz oscillator for timing reference and micro-electronics to control it. It's not as accurate as a true quartz watch and stops after 2 - days when the spring unwinds so whats the point of it? Seems like a novelty watch. If I were to buy a Grand Seiko I would go for one of their High Beat watches, ie pure mechanical. At least if it breaks down in years to come it will be repairable. Try getting a new circuit board for a spring drive in say 20 years time..
Problem is the back of the watch looks ugly. Make it look good and I'll consider it _very seriously._ But this blank blob in the back is just a no-go.
Not a very nice looking movement for a mechanical would not buy one because of that
So overpriced. Another ordinary watch.
Ugly back expensive and not modern style who can buy these kind of watches?lol
It’s not for everyone to understand 😉
